The type of vehicle I rented was not available when I got there. I received no phone calls or emails notifying me that I was going to be very downgraded. When I asked the lady what car I was getting she was then a bit rude to me and told me to go to the airport location which is over 30 minutes away. Although this location (like many others) is short staffed, they do an incredible job of getting people into their vehicles. I was lucky enough to get assisted by the manager of this location, Dary, and I have only positive things to say about this professional. Dary tried to upgrade me into an Infiniti Q50 but unfortunately, for me, that vehicle had been pulled to be taken to the airport only 2 minutes after my arrival. No matter, Dary got me into a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which I enjoyed and I will be going back to get another rental for my trip up north. Thank you AVIS!! ZERO stars. BE WARNED: A reservation at this AVIS/BUDGET location is MEANINGLESS. This Avis/Budget office is nothing short of horrendous. I will never attempt to rent from them again. If you rely on a reservation with this location, you risk ruining your plans whether they be vacation, visiting family or friends, or business. I am a local and have repeatedly had terrible experiences with this office. Recently, I had a reservation that I had made many days in advance. Late in the afternoon before I was supposed to pick up my car early the next morning, they called me and informed me that they will not have a car for me. I pointed out that they have done this to me before: they take a reservation and then do not have a car and do not honor the reservation. I asked what they expected me to do. The Avis guy copped an attitude and said "go to the airport," Midlothian is nowhere close to the Richmond airport. And what this uncaring employee did not understand is that I made a reservation with his office because it is across the street from the garage where my car was supposed to be serviced the next morning. His worthless and sarcastic suggestion has cost his employer and corporation a customer forever. As a result of what Avis did to me, I was not able to bring my car in for service. This same location has failed to provide me with a rental car in the past even though I had long-standing reservations. I have also seen them do the same thing to other people when I was in their office. On other occasions, it has taken more than a half hour to pick up a rental even though there may be only one or two other customers in the place. I have also been given rentals that were not even cleaned. Not only will I never attempt to rent from this Avis/Budget location again, I will never attempt to rent from ANY Avis/Budget location ever again. I highly encourage everyone to use the competing rental agency down on Midlothian Turnpike. If you are relatively close to them, the competing agency will even come and pick you up from your location and take you to their office. They consistently are a much more reliable and professional Car rental enterprise. It may take a few minutes longer to rent a car, but at least you know you will have one waiting for you. As promised. Avis and Budget really needs to take a close look at what is going on at this Midlothian office. Because it is not good. read more

Service was great; all three I worked with were kind, helpful and incredibly friendly. Car worked well, the vehicle needed an oil change half way through my trip but that didn't affect my drive. Would have liked the car to be cleaned out a little better, but it wasn't dirty by mists standards (I have OCD when it comes to cleaning my stuff). Cost for the rental was fine, no complaints there. Overall satisfied with my experience, this office gave me the hospitality I expect from residents of Chesterfield. read more

I've rented from here twice, neither time they had a car for me at my scheduled pick up time. Not only did I have to wait hours, but multiple people coming in after me were being rudely told with no explanation "no cars." I rented ten days ahead of time the second time thinking that would help somehow, but I still had to wait about 4 hours after my pick up time to get a car, and sure enough when I arrived to pick it up, two other people with reservations were told they just didn't have cars. They also seem understaffed. They had one person doing everything alone while she was being yelled at by an angry customer. I can't even blame her for not being polite. read more

I was visiting the Richmond area and our contact out here left us out to dry. Me, wife, 4 kids basically left on the street in a rural part or Mosely which we did not see coming. At the very last minute I was able to get a reservation from AVIS at the Midlothian Turnpike location. Thank God for good people like JAMIEN!!! Jamien made it happen and got me into a 7 passenger vehicle within 20 minutes. I told him how urgent the matter was and how my family was really in an emergency situation. Jamien (I called him Big Fella) showed empathy and got me situated into a Toyota Highlander, which enable me to get my family into a hotel and away from our "family" who just put us out on the street. Thank you Avis for being there for us in a great time of need. The drop off was also very efficient and easy and I was out of there within 15 minutes. I recommend this place for anyone looking for a rental. read more

Avis at the Richmond Midlothian Turnpike overcharged me $2000. I rented a car for a week and they charged me for 2 weeks. They said they could not find the key, and could not locate the vehicle on their lot. Not only are they incompetent, they are borderline criminal. I am taking legal action against them. read more

W rented a car through airport rentals.com and were told to pick up at 12:00pm on Saturday May 24th from the budget avis center on midlothian turnpike. We arrived and no one was working here. The hours are set to close at 12:00, so we arrived 30 minutes early in an effort to help them out. The fact that there was no one there to help us is ridiculous. We had a RESERVATION for a car and had already paid for the insurance on the vehicle. Now we have to back track and TRY to get a refund on the insurance because the employees couldn't be bothered to rent out all the reservations they had for the day before leaving work, if they even showed up at all today. I will absolutely not be going back to this place and I want my money back immediately. YOU GUYS ARE THIEVES FOR TAKING OUR INSURANCE MONEY AND NOT GIVING US A CAR. read more

I rented a vehicle from Avis, Midlothian, Va. for 6 days. Upon my returning the vehicle, I stopped at a gas station directly across the street and filled the tank. When I went inside to return the vehicle, there was no one inside. I waited 15 minutes, still no one. Went outside and walked around and saw no one. Therefore, I dropped my keys into a "basket" on the countertop that said "speedy return". WRONG MOVE on my part!!! The next day when I saw the charges from Avis, I had been charged an extra $106.54. I called customer service and they stated it was for gas, that the tank was empty. BULL!!! I'm sorry, but you can't expend a full tank of gas crossing ANY street!!! Customer service told me to send them copies of my gas receipt, which I attempted to do. However, after trying 5 times and having all of them returned saying "Avis server error". I called customer service again. They said I could take the copies to the rental office and they would give me a refund. It took me a couple of days to get by their office as I had pneumonia, but when I went there, one of the workers told me point blank that their system had a glitch that would sometimes override a gas entry and show the tank was empty. They charge $9.99 per gallon. The guy was also there that said he was the one that checked the vehicle in. He stated that he "remembered" that the tank was empty. Okay...it's now been almost a week and he can remember this...REALLY!!! He also claimed he was out on their lot. Well, where was he when I was out there walking around then? Anyway, after calling the Territory Performance Manager, Ms. Fisher 3 times, I finally spoke to her today (for the 2nd time). She stated they would refund the full charge as it should not have taken this long (almost 2 weeks now) to get this cleared up. I have just had a call from her stating that they are not going to refund the money after all. She said that Customer Service stated that all the charges were correct. 1) Customer service is not even in Midlothian, Va. so they are only going by what is on the computer 2) the bank receipt shows the payment to Shell for $22 the same day I returned the vehicle as well as an additional gas charge at a different station for gas in my personal vehicle. I have asked for something showing they put gas in the vehicle (a gas receipt where they put the gas in the car or ANYTHING) but was told they didn't have one. Why not??? Anyway, AVIS is not to be trusted in my opinion. They stole my money, then promised to refund it, then called and rescinded their promise to refund the money. A COMPANY THAT OPERATES LIKE THIS, CONSTANTLY LYING TO CUSTOMERS AND STEALING MONEY WHEN THEY HAVE BEEN PROVIDED PROOF, IS NOT A COMPANY I WOULD EVER DEAL WITH AGAIN. read more

AWFULLLL!!!! The guy told me at avis customer service that our refund would be the full amount and with no cancellation fees. Come to find out they kept HALF of the total amount I paid....... explain to me how this makes ANY sense??? I am so dissatisfied with them at this point for not being honest with me.
