Starting right off the top, the manager David really needs to brush up on his customer service. The way that I overheard him talk to his employees, multiple times "disciplining" one of his associates in front of me was discouraging. I can only imagine what is going on and being said behind closed doors. The way he talked with customers was neither helpful, or supportive. Maybe that is what Hertz wants...a demeaning manager, who berates his employees in front of customers, talks over customers, and does not provide solutions. I also just found out this is his first week?!? Anyways, shout-out to Shaheem, he did a great job dealing with David's attitude, and handling a stressful situation. Thank you for all your help! The experience with the car itself was fine. However the lady at the desk to check in and get the car was so rude. She kept looking at her phone while getting my paperwork ready and didn't even tell me what rental car I was getting until we walked outside with the keys. I waited nearly 45 minutes to get out the door. What happened to OJ running through the airport? When I got to the car, it had a half tank. I brought it to their attention and they said just to bring it back around the same amount. Why not fill it initially? They were understaffed and the phone rang and no one answered it. The staff seemed stressed and they showed it--never smiled. They ran out of cars for rent so started offering EVs. It's a long story of a car breaking down on an interstate trip, but the short of it is they let me drop off my car there when it was scheduled for another location. PLEASE AVOID USING THIS HERTZ LOCATION IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. As a customer you deserve better. Their customer service and business practices are the worst I've seen in almost 60 years including 25 years in B2B sales. This is not hyperbole. For brevity sake I'll spare some of the details. I had made an online reservation then yesterday went to pick it up. They offered me a choice of a dirty vehicle that reeked of alcohol with crumbs in the door arm rest or a clean one. Obviously I took the clean one. Second in leaving the office to look at vehicles on the lot the assistant manager left my licence and credit card on the counter without offering them back to me. When she opened the door and looked back to see if I was coming I had to reach across the counter to where she had her paperwork to recover them. She was going to leave my personal information unguarded for anyone (employee or customer in line) to look at. Third after "deciding" on the vehicle David the store manager completed my paperwork. He asked me to sign the electronic pad. It stated that I had seen the contact and agreed to terms. He had not offered to show me the contact but had it in his hand to go out the door to take pictures of vehicle. I signed the pad but noted "(not read)" beside my signature. He only gave me the contract when he was finished with pictures and I was getting in car to leave. Unfortunately this is not the end. This morning there was a $200 security deposit charge on my checking account. I was not aware of this charge or authorized it. I paid for the rental online when I made the reservation. No mention of security deposit. I was never made aware verbally of the charge by anyone when I picked up the vehicle. David swiped my card without asking me or commenting on what he was doing. My faut I did not stop the process then. And as I said I was not given the contract to look at until I was leaving. I went back to register my dissatisfaction this morning and ask for a refund of the unauthorized charge. I was bluntly turned down by the assistant manager and their customer service line. My complaint of my personal data being put at risk also fell on deaf ears. Later I got a call from David who at every turn of our conversation chose to dispute my recalling of the facts. He told me my personal information was never at risk. He told me he offered me the contract and told me about the security deposit. At the end of the conversation he called me a "liar". I had been measured and calm in my conversation with him. THIS IS HOW HERTZ MANAGERS ARE TRAINED TO TREAT CUSTOMERS???? This is the worst review I have ever given a business but I feel that I really need to warn future customers of this place. So the story is that I had a reservation to pick up a car made days prior and had taken lyft from my hotel to the location. At arrival to the location, the manager came out of the store and pretty much tried to usher us back to our lyft and send us off without explanation except for that they no longer had any cars left. Of course our lyft had already left and they had not even offered us to wait inside the building as it was extremely cold (December-January time). We had to go inside ourselves and get an explanation. They even had our names down and had not even given us a call to let us know there were no vehicles left. As we were waiting for our left away from that place, other customers came in and received the same news we had however they weren't as nice about it. Please stay away from this place, they have horrible reviews for a reason. They have bad work ethics, customer service, and very unprofessional management skills. I feel like they completely disregard reservations and give cars out to whoever comes first. Plus they seem to neglect updating the database in which allows hertz and other third party websites to know whether or not they have certain cars available for certain times and days. I wanted to give a big thank you to Hertz Midlothian Turnpike! Even though they were swamped with closing time business, they helped resolve an overcharge from corporate, upgraded my vehicle and gave me a reduced fee on my new rental. Due to the pandemic, I have had to change my rental and reservations multiple times and every time I could count on them to treat me well and work out any problems that came up. Had car reserved for my disabled mother after she broke down. My mom was dropped off at the location and was told they didn't have a car of that tier available and she would have to pay an extra $20/day to upgrade. I asked to speak to the manager since I never would have booked with Hertz had the price been close to $50/day. He told me there was nothing he could do but put her on a waiting list and have her sit for an economy car. Horrible customer service. Once I asked for his name (Donnie), he quickly hung up on me. I was involved in an accident and needed a rental car. I called ahead and made reservations. When I arrived at the location they were incredibly rude and incompetent. They acted as if I had never called and they did not have a vehicle available for me. They couldn't tell me what they did have available and were rude the entire time. I wish I could give less than one star for this horrible place, absolutely the worst customer service in the world and I traveled to many places, one of the "customer service specialists" told me I am insignificant and I should never speak because my name wasn't on the rental, which he is mistaken (my name on the insurance and the insurance company is paying for the car), he wanted to charge my brother $75 for a broken keychain wire (they tie all car keys and keychain label all together), they are absolutely horrible, they even tried to charge the guy before me more money for smoking which he didn't smoke in the car, this was absolutely the worst experience I had anywhere in the past 7 years. read more

The absolute Worst customer service! the only reason we used them is that my 72 year old mother in law had an insurance claim that allowed a rental and this was the company her insurance worked with. First of all they made her wait half a day to get a car that the insurance would cover 100%, oh they had upgraded vehicles available sure for an extra charge the she would have to pay out of pocket! So she gets the car but they dont have time for her to look around and inspect it (though i'm sure if there was any damage they would expect HER to pay for it) too busy they say, you had half a day!! Anyway, the REAL problem comes around when the tire pressure light comes on..... ah yes a flat! she calls and they tell her SHE has to fix it! my 72 year old mother in law!!!!! so she calls her insurance company and they send someone to put the spare on it (meanwhile she's stranded at 6 p.m. on a friday) they tell her to exchange it the next day. She goes to do that a HERTZ tells her she has to buy a new tire and pay to put it on??? i thought thats why we buy insurance? they were so rude this sweet lady tells them to "take their car and shove it!" and forfieted her remaining 2 days rental so she wouldnt have to deal with them anymore! I accompanied my disabled friend to this location to pick up a rental following an accident, the staff was rude and belligerent. When I witnessed how they were treating my friend I said something and the manager became equally rude with me. We called his insurance company and they directed him to Enterprise and they were absolutely professional and friendly. I will not use Hertz again. read more
