I did hear one customer complain that Avis wouldn't wipe snow and ice off the windows, but I do think that's a little above and beyond. This is really the budget car rental in Troy ! Do not rent from here ! The manager anwar and his employees are rude and incompetent. They're not helpful at all. Their car mechanics (if you can call them that) do not check the cars upon return or keep them maintained. They're no help at all. Basically saying it's our problem that the engine check light came on and the cruise control feature is slow responding. Reserved a Toyota Rav 4 and they gave me a Buick Encore. They tried to convince me that these 2 vehicles are in the same category, but the fact is that I'm not stupid and they may fool someone who doesn't know much about vehicle capacity, but not me. Trunk capacity of a Rav4 is 37.5 cubic ft and the Buick Encore is 18.8 cubic ft. Rav4 trunk is 100% bigger then Encore. Also, the car was dirty and they charge you U$450 if you returned it dirty! The Avis rental on Rochester Rd in Troy, Mi has the most incredible staff. They are professional, courteous, and friendly. Avis' policies arent the best, but this location IS. Avis has a wonky policy where you choose, reserve, and pay for a certain car at a certain location... but they dont actually HAVE that vehicle there at the time you reserved it for online and PAID for it. Thats a reason not to rent from them, but the staff at the Troy location is great, and we keep going back. The lady and gentlemen that we have dealt with are the best. read more

I am still reeling from this experience and cannot believe anyone would treat someone thus. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION??? When I picked up the vehicle the damage report was already completed by the agent. The slip had written on it "No damage" and the NO DAMAGE option was selected, there was a small notation that there was "small chip w/s". The front wind-shield had a star-shaped chip on the passenger side and there was a crack on the driver side. When I went to the car, it was not cleaned (either interior or exterior), the inside had a coffee cup half-full of coffee, water bottles (both empty and full), and I discovered candy on the floor of the back of the car. As we were using the car to transport some items and I had cleaning materials (I work in healthcare and once home sanitized the interior). I was annoyed, especially considering COVID, but not terribly concerned. Also, almost immediately after we started driving the car, the "Oil Maintenance Required" kept coming on. Upon returning the vehicle, we ensured we removed all debris from the interior and that gas had been filled. I informed the gentleman at the front desk (the same one from pick-up) that the car had been dirty upon pickup. He apologized and I thought nothing more of the event. However, shortly after I returned home he called and accused me (yelling at me) that I had had a dog in the car and that he would be charging me a $280 cleaning fee and that there was a new crack in the window. There was most certainly NOT a dog in the vehicle at any time while the car was in my possession. There were only two adult individuals in the car during the entire rental period. He would not listen to anything I had to say and continued to yell at me that he was going to charge me. My husband attempted to talk to calmly talk to the man, but the man continued to accuse us of having a dog in the vehicle. However, the man stated to my husband that he was not discuss this further and the man hung up the phone on my husband. I am still just amazing that anyone would talk to another human being that way in a professional capacity. I would never call a customer, scream accusations at them, not listen to them, and disregard them such. read more

Was my go to for car rentals. Owner or boss is super nice and a good guy, always got me what I needed. I had an emergency and had to pick a rental up on Sunday just a little bit before they closed and the employe working Sunday (not the boss) left early. I saw him get in his car as I walked to the door he saw me and drove off after making eye contact while I was actually trying to flag him down. Now I got no car. Renting a car from this place is like going to a used car lot and being haggled by a salesman. He talks really fast so you can barely understand what he says and then he changes your reservation around tellling you that he's giving you stuff for free and saving you money but in the end you're left confused, bewildered and mentally exhausted. Then you don't get the perk he promised and you barely get what you initially signed up for. Didn't realize these rental car locations were franchises until talking to him/the owner who was quite unprofessional. Worst of worst car rental location. I'm matured employee behavior. Booked full car size for rental for 10 days, when I come for pickup the employee gives me keys for civic and mentions that is a full size car and nothing else on the lot. Moreover reservation was at 10am and I came at 8am, I assured I would return the rental by 8am on the returning date but he insisted that he would charge for the 2 hours as per the reservation but will return the pay if the car is returned before 8am. When i called them, they said it was my fault and i have to get towed at my expense. The little midget short guy that refused to give me his name or speak to their manager has had the worst attitude and went and sat in the back on his phone while customer waited. Do NOT go to this location. When I pulled up and realized there weren't any cars on the lot I knew it would be a problem. I always rent from Avis using various payment methods. I never had an issue up until today. There were two men at the front counter. The moment I told them I was using a debit card their whole attitude changed. One of them even questioned why I couldn't use a credit card if I had one. I explained to him that I use my credit cards all the time and today the payment didn't post on time. They were extremely short and rude. It was like they were refusing to rent to me. It didn't help that I'm a black female either. I'm a travel nurse so I needed this car for transportation. At the last minute I rented a car at this Troy location to get the DTW rather than have my sister drive us to the airport & return in rush hour traffic. Online reservation via kayak for a 2pm -4pm rental for $12.07 plus the cost of .6 gallon of gas purchased across the street from the airport rental car return. Jay at the Troy location was great, fast rental, indicated my husband could drive for no additional charge, & we were I UT of there in 3 minutes after checking the car for dings (none). Only oops was this location is a joint Avis/Budget & you need to return to right airport lot. (Rental contract was in a Budget jacket). No problem with the return at Budget. I was very skeptical of this place after reading reviews, but I'm glad I didn't cancel my reservation because it was a totally fine experience. The customer service rep was very nice and answered all my questions. My only reservation was that he had me sign for the car before actually seeing it. Granted he said if I noticed anything wrong to come back in, but it was still strange for me to do things in that order. I am a Avis Preferred Member, and am extremely disappointed at the service for the Troy Location at Pick Up. The service was unprofessional, sloppy, and downright inconsiderate. I asked the associate to add a driver to my contract and was told she could not assit as the "rules and regulations" for adding drivers were different at each location. Not only did she refuse to solve the situation but suggested i come back the next day. Needless to say, this is me comign back. Stay away from the Troy Location. You will be disappointed. This was the worst car rental experience ever. They say that there is a drop off service but will never drop you. Even though there were plenty of people to drop me off I was forced to look at other options. Also I was charged a very high rate for taking an additional day to return the car and a late fee was applied. The worst! Total disregard of customer experience and safely. We reserved a vehicle several days prior. The day we were to pick it up, we called and were told there was a small crack, "tiny", in the windshield. "It's fine, it's down low, won't effect your driving." He also said we could rent an Expedition if we didn't want the vehicle with the cracked windshield. We drive 30 miles to Avis only to find a huge horizontal crack directly through the center of the windshield. Additionally, somehow in the 45 minutes it took us to get there, he rented the Expedition to someone else...curiously the Expedition was sitting there.... read more

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE I wish I could've given them negative star rating. LIARS, THIEVES & RACISTS. I rented a car and I was unable to return it on time. I called them and I was put on hold for more than 11 min and when I call them again they said they forgot that I was on line. Anyways I extended the rental for one day and due to some billing issues from their end I was told that the extra day is for free. I specifically asked him "IS IT FOR FREE?" He said "YES IT IS". While I returned it next day, I was late for couple of hours but the closing guy says "I got you" when I asked him if there are any extra charges. Next day, I was charged for two extra days. Called this store, the person who answered the call said no one would promise a free day. I wish I would have recorded their calls. I would never rent from here nor advise anyone to rent from here. The guy doesn't even have any customer service experience because he was arguing like a mad person. A customer should be addressed properly no matter how hard the discussion might be. I caught him right away as I spoke with the same person before because he did not even bother to find out/check with others, who promised me free day. He was talking as if he is the one who spoke with me before. I rent from many places due to short business trips but this experience was insane. We won't be back. Sure, we got a deal through Hotwire which is why we booked here, but I'd rather pay more than go here again. The guy at the counter could hardly speak, yet understand English. We wanted a compact car and wanted to be sure it had cruise control as we've had compacts in the past without. He tells us he has some Nissan compact but it doesn't have cruise and that'd he'd give us an SUV for a $15 up-charge. We asked what kind of Nissan it was and he says Vesseray or something like that. We insisted to go see it and sure enough it was a Nissan Versa with cruise control. This tool didn't even know how to pronounce the cars let alone the features they had and only tried to up-sell us. He didn't go out to the car to examine, just gave us the keys. Once we left with the car we realized there was a toll box on the window. He didn't mention anything about it so we called to see how it worked knowing we would be going through tolls on our trip. He could barely explain to us how it worked and how much it would be. Needless to say we didn't use it. How can you be in the customer service industry and not have a clue how to do it or how to communicate? Ridiculous. Go elsewhere. read more
