I didn't asked for a free upgrade in the beginning, the young man offered me a free upgrade due to a problem with my original reservation. How Mr. B twisted around and it end up with I have been greedy and taking an advantage of this company? I can see that it is all customer's faults and they are the innocent victim. I am a Chinese American so I understand how Chinese way of dealing with problems. This is USA so the Chinese way running American company is not going to work here. We have booked a car through Costco rental for Dodge Grand Caravan for 8am on a day. This was booked about 3 weeks in advance. Even a day before that they have called us to confirm the rental. When we went there they didn't have what we booked instead they offered a Mazda SUV rx 7 which 7 people can sit very tightly. We wanted the trunk space and were leaving out of town with lots of luggage. With SUV ,hardly any trunk space and not much leg space for the 6th and 7th person. Very frustrated. Finally after asking him to call other AVis he was able to find one about 2 1/2 hours away. They said it will be there in 2 1/2 hours, by that time it was almost 11:30am. Since we will be late we have to cancel the reservation and joined with other family members in their vehicle. We were going for a wedding and need to load a lot of stuff ,but that morning has ruined our fun. If you want a clean car this isn't the place to rent one . I rented a Jeep Patriot on May 11th , when I got in the vehicle it smelt so disgusting & unbearable!! I look around there's drinks spilt everywhere on the seats on the floor just nasty , I didn't get the chance to the guy that was helping me out cuz I was running late and obviously they can't do much for me if they didn't care to give me a filthy car . Besides the car smelling and the stains and the trash in the car when u get down from the car you smell like the car !!! Embarrassing I had 3 of my friends riding with me and it was just all bad we had to keep the windows down just so we can breath some clean air ! WORSTTTTTT Rental car ever!!!! I will choose other vendors for next time. Two stupid boys working here, wore sleep wear to work. They speak very little english, hard to understand. We returned the car and everything was ok. 3 hours later got a call from one of the guy saying "there is a small crack on the window, we need to charge u more." How big is it?? "dunno let me check". Suspicious.. He came back and said "it is small but u are responsible. Please come, I will copy your ID and sign the paperwork that you are responsible." What??? Are u kidding me? How if u went somewhere with the car, and u broke it?? How if there is not even any crack. Totally ripped off! I waited until I check the credit card statement, they charge me $60 more. I called corporate, avis corp said because you purchase insurance. Hack no, I didnt purchase any insurance! These guys are only trying to get more money by doing anything he can!! Dont ever come to this place. It is not worth your day.. The owner/ employee sent me a message stating that they have a picture of the crack. How funny it is!! Had to extend car rental an extra 2 days due to family emergency. Was told on phone by the lady who works there I would not be charged a late fee or another day if returned before closing. When I returned the car I was charged a late fee and the extra day. The gentleman would not tell me the extra 2 day rate charges. So I rental that was originally 162 should have becoms around 290 for the extra 2 days turned into 412. I also didn't get my AAA discount. All this is on top of not having the car I was told I'd get. I asked for a Mazda CX-5 or similar, when I arrived I was told they had nothing like that, all they had was a mini van, I asked for a car and got a Corolla, which was fine. But if you tell someone you have what they are requesting you should notify them if you give it out before they arrive. Make sure all your employees know your policy. If you're going strictly by the contract your employees shouldn't tell you that you will not be charged an extra day if returned by closing. Contract says 2:30 but employee says by closing. Even before I extended the car, I was told 11:30 return, the employee helping me told me as long as it's back before they close it's fine. Everyone needs to be on the same page, a customer shouldn't be told to different things. Oh and they do not go over the car with you, no walk around pointing out scratches etc. Car was dirty. wow i wish i read these reviews before i booked a car from here. This location is terrible. if 0 stars was an option that would be the rating. I dealt with someone by the name of Jack X. on 3/27/15. For everyone that has issues with Avis, call their customer service line while you're there. Terrible experience here. long story short.. i made a reservation a month before. I arrive, wait a long time. Jack is rude and starts getting combative when i question why he didn't have a car ready for me. Had been out of cars for a day and tries to upsell me a camaro and wonders why he should have to take a cost hit for renting out a more expensive car at a lower price (maybe because you screwed up and you should make an effort to make it right instead of being all pissy about it?). I'd bet that camaro stayed unrented that day too. someone teach this guy some customer service. being a little apologetic for having screwed up might help. being rude and trying to intimidate people does not work. It might have worked on the two ladies in front of me in line.. ** i guess i should mention that someone returned a car while all of this was going on. the car was filthy inside and outside. Since i was already running late because he did not keep my reservation time i could not wait 30minutes for him to wash the car. this would have put me a hour behind schedule already. *** DO NOT GO TO THIS AVIS LOCATION *** The workers/owner will do whatever they possibly can to charge you more even if you make reservation online and the vehicle is in their lot. The service is horrible and you will be disappointed. This was my second time going here and both times have been horrible. The first time I had to get the Territory Sales Manager involved due to the workers trying to provide us with a smaller vehicle and stating that it was the larger one when the website said otherwise. I'm the last person who would get someone else involved, but it had to happen. Luckily the territory sales manager was able to get everything fixed and since she handled it so well I decided to give this location another chance. I had high hopes and was thinking that the office changed for the better. I called 30 minutes before hand to make sure they had the vehicle I wanted and I then proceeded with making a reservation online through Costco. I then went to their office and was told that my reservation did not cover the vehicle I wanted as it was not enough money in total for that level of an SUV, but on the phone call he informed me that the vehicle that he has on hand was the same level that I reserved. Since it appears that this office is notorious for doing things like this I had no other choice, but to contact the territory sales manager again. I called her on her cell phone while I was still at this location and she called the store and spoke with the manager/owner and she almost resolved everything and she got the manager to agree to just upgrade the vehicle, but when he got off the phone with the territory sales manager he said that he could not fulfill this request and that he was giving the vehicle to someone who walked in after I did. This is a horrible office and I will never go back. The territory sales manager then decided to send me to The City of Industry office and the experience was amazing. The gentleman at the City of Industry office has ready customer service skills and I will end up providing them with a review of 5 Stars. I highly recommend not going to the Diamond Bar location. If you choose to go and have problems, research and find out who the Territory Sales Manager is and file a formal complaint. These issues can not be resolved if you do not provide feedback to the appropriate people. This office really shouldn't be in business. read more

The Rep's English was awful, I could barely understand him. I mean, speaking fluent English is important in a customer service job in the US, right? The Rep presented me with an SUV that was riddled with dead bugs on the car grill, chalk writing on the rear window and I HAD to ask him to clean it. The car hadn't been vacuumed. The Rep hands me over a form that I have to initial re: the car being handed over in a clean, scratch/dent free car. He gave me static about how I HAD to initial that the car was turned into me "clean". When I addressed the filth issue, he said, "Wait 20 mins and I'll get it washed for you." I was like, "I Made this reservation a week ago, you knew I was coming. You should've had this car READY for me." So disappointing. Don't rent from this location! read more

Where do I begin? I reserved a vehicle three weeks in advance so that the day I had to pick it up I wouldn't have an issue. Well the day arrived and they didn't have the size vehicle I had reserved in fact it's almost as if I had not made a reservation whatsoever. They first wanted to put a bandaid by offering me to pick it up 15 miles away and then offered a mustang. I'm like the reason I wanted a compact car was for gas purposes, a mustang will burn too much gas. No other solutions were offered and I just left. I don't recommend this location. read more

I made reservation a couple weeks in advance. When I went to pick up the car, Jack at the front desk told me he did not have my car! I saw a line of SUVs and Sport cars parked out front; however, he told me those cars were for other reservations. He won't upgrade me or give me any car. I guess the tradition of upgrading you when they don't have your car does not apply here. I have rented many cars from Avis/Budget before. This is my first experience of such. Left without a car and speechless. Wow... Update: Okay, I did a little more research. I think I understand a little better. Each Avis Budget Independent Operator's earning is based on a percentage of his/her over-all revenue. My speculation is when customers book their reservations through agency like Costco, this branch will not give you a car since it could charge more by giving the same car to others. That's why so many Costco reservations were denied (read other feedbacks). That could also explain why Jack asked me if I would buy full insurance (profit for them) even he had no car for me. I guess I will check with Costco and make sure it understands its relationship with Avis auto rental program. read more

Had a terrible, terrible experience. I made a reservation for a mid-size SUV 3 months in advance. When we went to pick up the car, we were told that they did not have any mid-size SUVs in the lot, which totally defeats the point of making a reservation 3 months ahead. Then they told us that our choices are either a compact car (which would not fit our family) or a 12-seater van, which is way too big for our family, take up too much gas, and be difficult to drive. I would have been more understanding if i was a walk-in or made the reservation a few days before, but having had the reservation made three months ahead, i was in shock of their carelessness and indifference. Folks here are nice! I go here often to rent cars for longer trips for work. The last trip I took they gave me a brand new Chevy Impala with just 57 miles on it. I hate Chevys (they're horrible cars in general) but I appreciated that they tried to give me their best. A couple of times the cars I rented from here were a little dirty inside (and outside, possibly due to a recent rain) ... but I'm driving these for work and not to show off (who drives an Impala for pride?) ... so it doesn't matter to me. The car new clean and fun to drive. Great gas mileage. I was in and out of the office in jiff both renting and returning. FYI: Uber gets there to pick you up in 3 minutes. I was offered a variety of cars to choose from. Some places you get no choice. They have full size pick ups to little things. I got the Kia Sportage and was very pleased with the room and performance. They are so very nice and accommodating. They explained all the contract options to me, more than once when I got confused and never gave me any attitude. As an older person, I require special care. I was the grumpy one but I drove a away with a smile, maybe just because the young lady there smiled at me when I didn't deserve it. Worst car rental experience ever! Horrible customer service! I want to give fewer than 1 star to this branch of Avis. I had a reservation for two full sized cars for my vacation trip up to San Francisco. I showed up at my reservation time to pick up the cars at 8AM. The attendant was late to open the door but whatever right. I gave him my reservations and he pulled them up, but I was told that they did not have the cars. I felt like I was in an episode of Seinfeld. I told him "what's the point of a reservation?". I was told that it "just happens" sometimes and there was nothing he could do. He even made the comment "what would you like for me to do? Make a car appear?" A few minutes later his manager shows up, so I take up my complaint with her. Her customer service skills were as bad as his. She told me there was nothing she could do, but I could get the cars at another branch. At this point, I really had no choice. I called Enterprise but they had nothing left. So I decided to go to another branch. The manager called two other branches that had the cars and told me I could go to either location. She said both Puente Hills and Chino Hills have the cars. I picked Puente because it was closer. She supposedly transferred my reservation over to Puente Hills. She never once apologized for the inconvenience or offer anything to appease me. Pissed off, I headed to Puente Hills. When I got there, I was told that the reservation was not transferred and they did not have the cars anyways. The attendant here was helpful though. It was not his fault that his branch did not have the cars, but here I was without a car and time ticking away. The attendant here mentioned that the Diamond Bar branch is notorious for this type of behavior. Why would she purposely lie to me and send me here? I am beyond pissed at this point, but I have no choice but to head to Chino Hills to get the cars. This time I called and confirmed that they had the cars. I was able to get the cars at Chino Hills, but wasted 3-4 hours driving back and forth because the idiots at Diamond Bar didn't know how to hold a reservation. Then they treat their customers like crap and never apologize and send them on wild goose chases. I wasted a good chunk of my first day of vacation dealing with this fiasco. The Chino Hills Attendant also confirmed that this type of behavior was typical of the Diamond Bar branch. Never ever rent a car from Avis in Diamond Bar! Hello Yelpers! Please see my reviews. The majority of my reviews are positive. I don't like to give companies bad reviews, but my experience here was awful. I read the original reviews on yelp and knew they were bad, but I thought to myself maybe things have changed. I will give them a try. Well I rented a car for one-day and everything went smoothly until this hard to understand man said my card was declined. I thought to my self theres is no way this could be declined, because this was attached to my bank account or there was fraud on my bank account. I was worried about fraud and I called my bank in front on the Avis guy & put the rep on speaker for the Avis guy to hear our conversation. The customer service rep notified the Avis rep that he already charged me twice for the car rental.the Avis guy insisted I pay him in cash. I left & he kept my card & he charged my card. 3rd time while I wasn't there. That ls illegally! I ended up paying for a car three times what I should have. I'm going to write up police report. I also contacted my bank, but I don't need this kind of stress. STAY AWAY! THEY WILL CHARGE YOUR CARD ILLEGALLY!
