**** AMAZING NEW OWNER**** I recently rented a car for a week and had the pleasure of meeting Harvey, the new owner of Avis at 6901 Okeechobee Blvd, Ste #14, and his wife Jessica. They are such a wonderful couple who recently took over this Avis/Budget location, and I cannot speak highly enough about their professionalism and customer service. The cars were clean, new, and ready to go. Best of all, you avoid the extra airport fees you'd pay if renting at the airport. If you've been here in the past, give this location another shot--the old owner is gone, and the new owners are absolutely fantastic! Highly recommend. read more

I'd like the share my unsatisfactory experience with the Avis location at 6901 Okeechobee Ave, West Palm Beach, FL location... I picked up the SUV and upon getting home realized that the gas level was at 50% when the paperwork said it was 100% full. My home is less than 5 miles from the location. I immediately called and spoke to a Cecilia, who promised to fix the paperwork at her end, and all would be taken care of. As an aside, the car was in terrible order upon my pickup. The windows and mirrors were so dirty that I had to clean every single window, inside and out. Also, the window washer fluid was so empty that not a drop would come out- a real danger when driving. I went to Walmart and with my own money purchased and added washing fluid. When I returned the car, I mentioned to a different agent than Cecilia he conversation we had had, and advised that the gas tank was over 50% as we had agreed. The agent seemed pre-occupied and uninterested, but didn't mention that there would be an issue. Two hours later, I received the "E-Invoice" which included a $86.04 charge for fuel!! I am furious at this point, so I return to the store the next day only to be told I need to speak to the owner at a phone number posted on the store glass. I called, and luckily, the owner was on his way to store. He promised to fix the issue, but has not- when contacted again, the owner of this location gave a story about his medical issues, etc. Total unprofessional behavior and response to a 20 + year customer. This location is just shameful and it should be under investigation. Reserved a car 24 hours in advance and showed up on time and the door was locked. I called the number posted on the door (just someone's personal cell) and he said someone would open the door but no one did. Cancelled my reservation it's not worth it read more

I have been renting cars from this location for over 6 years now. Recently they are under new ownership and THANK GOD!!!! Harvey and his wife took over this business a few months ago and since then, they have been working very hard to turn this business around. The previous owners were never around and many times Id even find notes on the door when I came to pick up my car, saying to call them and they will be there soon. It was a ridiculous and a completely unprofessional way to do business. Harvey and his wife are always there and always available. The cars are clean and working properly. They are friendly and very helpful. If you have tried this location before, and were not satisfied, I highly recommend that you give them another shot. You will not be disappointed! As far as car rental places go, they are going above and beyond to change the reputation of this location, and they are doing an amazing job! I am the most satisfied I've been in 6 years. Rented a truck with less than a half tank of gas, I expressed concern and was told not to worry, I returned the truck with more gas than it had when I left. I took photos of the miles till empty before the rental and after they are included here. The Avis rental Charged me $290 to fill up the tank. I called AVIS and told them what happened and they agreed with me that you are guilty till you prove yourself innocent when you rent a car with AVIS! Be warned if the tank is not topped off they will try to screw you over. The AVIS rep said there is a device in the car that reports the mileage to them automatically, so I told them great then it also told you how little fuel it had in it when I rented it. This location sucks. They close at noon on Sunday. I got my car back at 2:00 PM Sunday to find out I have to pay an extra day. No one said anything when I rented the car that they close at noon on Sunday as a precaution because I guess they like to surprise their customers. They told me to look at the rental agreement which apart from the rate and the dates of renting the car I don't bother to read. It will definitely be my last rental here. Hopefully they go out of business soon so you don't even have the chance of selecting them as your rental location. Just go to the airport. PLEASE don't rent from here! Corporate knows they're awful! * bad service * rude front desk * over priced for mediocre cars * no safety precautions for COVID-19 * when we finally got a new car they said "people come here very often about these cars, this place is an on going problem" When we picked up our car the girl behind the desk told us our tire pressure has just been filled and the light would turn on when we drove. Light never turned off. No one at the front desk answers the phone....ever. So we had to call corporate and roadside assistance who told us to go back and get a new car. When we got there the owner(?) refused to upgrade our car because he only had jeeps and SUV's for the same price. Also THEY WERENT WEARING MASKS. Oh, and, they KNEW this car had a tire problem. He even asked "have you checked the tire pressure" and I was in shock. I'm sorry but $200 car rental the car should be without any issue. Not my car, not my problem! We are off to a new Avis to get a car trade and see how this treatment is. Truly terrible costumer service, even before knew there was an issue. Never using AVIS again after this. **UPDATE - the Avis at the west palm airport was fantastic. Masks, 6ft apart guidelines, beautiful cars. The front desk clerk, Phillip, was truly fantastic, upgraded us and got us an eco friendly car. He said the Avis in Walmart Plaza is known for its low quality because it's a franchise. If I could give 0 stars I would. HORRIBLE service, We reserved a Ford Explorer and when we arrived we were told that they were out of them and received a Nissan Pathfinder instead. When we went to pay I was told my credit score was too low?! (NEVER HAVE I HAD THIS ISSUE) so my husband proceeds to pay with his debit card. Without notifying us the manager runs the card for $419 when our reservation was for $285. When we questioned the amount he got really nasty and said that when using a debit card we are FORCED to pay for Avis insurance?!????? NEVERRRRR HEARD THIS BEFORE. Well we went along with it even though I was questioning it in the back of my mind. While on the road I called CORPORATE Avis and was told by two people that Avis Liability Insurance is always OPTIONAL and doesn't matter which way we pay it is not mandatory to purchase. Upon the return of the car I spoke to the same manager who stuck by his story and told me that the two Avis representatives I spoke to were wrong and that he will not be able to credit the insurance charge. I will NEVER do business with AVIS again. This man certainly ruined that for us. read more

I was quoted a price of 194$ for 4 days. I literally drove it to my aunts house 30 minutes away parked it for 4 days and drove it back to this same location. Now my Credit Card has been charged 334$. Woohoo thanks for letting me rent a car. Not to mention the drop box doesn't fit keys with remotes so I had to stick it behind the box and the brick wall there was this itty bitty space I was able to get the keys into. Not my problem. I reserved a truck for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15th, at 6901 Okeechobee Blvd.; after waiting for an hour, I was advised that they could not find the key for the truck as the GM had used it, and they don't know where he put the key. They called the store at 4411 45th St, West Palm Beach, who had a truck, and transferred my reservation. Upon arriving at the 45th Street location, I was advised that they no longer had the truck. After wasting hours of my day, I was without a truck to move, and then to add insult to injury, my credit card was charged a $75 no-show fee. This is unacceptable!! If I could give this one star I would! The owner of this store- Herman- was so sweet and accommodating when I picked up the car. He went out of HIS way to tell me to drop off the car in the morning the day AFTER my reservation ended, at 6am (mind you the store is not yet open) and to leave the car in front of the store, with the keys under the seat and he would take care of it when he got in. I did exactly as instructed, and have been charged 100.00 extra. I have contacted customer service, and he has flat out lied about ever saying this- and I have been told by customer service that 'they do not honor verbal agreements' so- from what I get from this is that if the professional working instructs you to do something- if not down in writing, DO NOT TRUST THEM!!!! Worst car rental. We rented our car for a trip from FL to TN and 30 minutes into our journey, ants began crawling out of every nook of the car. We had to stop to purchase ant traps and insect sprays in GA. The "check engine" light was on the entire time and the car smelled liked cigarette smoke. When we finally returned the car and told the lady behind the counter about our experience, she could not have cared less. They do not clean or check their cars. read more

Our vehicle was not ready. We booked 3 weeks in advance. Avis did not have our vehicle prepared nor they have a vehicle that was similar to our reserved vehicle. After about 2 hours Avis was able to locate a vehicle About 4 miles from where our original pickup was scheduled. The Vehicle smells like marihuana. It was disgusting and because it was our last resort we were forced to take the vehicle. We were force to drive 8 hours in a vehicle smelled like marijuana with our 20 month old child. WE WERE NEVER offered a discount for the inconvenience. When we return the vehicle after our vacation it still smelled like marihuana all of our belongings smelled like marihuana. I had to wash and clean every piece of item that we had in the vehicle Due to the smell. I am disgusted and ashamed of this company. They are ripoffs And unprofessional. DO NOT EVER RENT FROM THEM. THIS IS A BUDGET/AVIS RENTAL LOCATION. I booked a mid size car with a pick up date of November 23rd. I called this location 30 mins before my pick up time because I was unable to find them to ask them where they were located. It turned out that I was right across the street. I pulled into the parking lot 5 minutes later. My pick up time was 10:30am and I arrived by 10:05 am. Claire...or whatever the dummy's name is, claimed she was the store owner. She said over the phone not to bother to come because she didn't have a car for me. I asked her how did she NOT have a car because I made a reservation over 48 hours ago. She said she "tried" calling me. I have NO missed calls or voicemails so I asked her what phone number did she call. She then said "I actually do not have any of your information on file, where did you book your reservation?" I TOLD HER I BOOKED IT ON WWW.BUDGET.COM AND THAT I HAVE A ACCOUNT WITH THEM THAT CONTAINS ALL MY INFORMATION. My information was even on the confirmation I received for this reservation. So I do not see how in the world she wouldn't have my information. She told me she did not have any cars available, only SUVs. She refused to upgrade my car without me having to pay extra or work with me. She kept saying that I will have to wait until she gets a car which DOES NOT WORK BECAUSE IT WAS THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING AND I HAD PLACES TO GO!!!!!!! Worst car rental location ever. Extremely unprofessional. When I got there to pick up my car I was greeted by a voice from behind a wall saying be right with you, then a dog comes out from the back, you can clearly hear a baby and a television in the back. I had to wait for the car because it was not clean. The day I was supposed to return the car I called early in the morning to ask what the charge would be for an additional day. Instead of asking my name and trying to assist me the man on the phone said I needed to look at my contract that the fees were listed in my contract and then add $10 convenience fee per day. I decided not to keep the car as I didn't find it reasonable to pay $78 a day for a Ford Fiesta after paying less then $50 a day. I called before hand to see if I could get a ride back and was told it wouldn't be a problem.When I arrived at the Budget office to return the car the girl (Cecilia)was vacuuming the office, the baby was playing in the seating area and the dog was sleeping in front of the window. I was told it would be 15 minutes or so as the driver had gone to pick up a customer. In the meantime I handed my paper work Cecilia and asked if I could get a receipt she proceeded to tell me that she could not print me out a receipt as she could not close my account out because she was going to use my rental to take me home and not until she came back could she close it out, she stated she could email my receipt once she returned. I've rented cars for many years many times for work and pleasure and not once have I been told to leave the car and my bill would be closed out at a later time and the receipt would be emailed to me I was not comfortable with that. Cecilia was not happy with my response, so she closed my account out not even going outside to inspect the car and printed out my receipt. When the other person came back to the office he seemed to be a relative, he did have a customer with him, she promptly told me she would take me where I needed to go. It was the most unpleasant ride I have taken in a long time. I'm not sure what Budget and Avis are doing if they are selling the franchise to anyone and not overseeing the way these offices are being administered. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BRANCH! This location rents both Avis cars and Budget trucks. We reserved a 12' truck weeks in advance. When we arrived at the location at the arranged time, we waited thirty minutes for the sole employee to finish helping other customers. We then found that the two trucks they had both had check engine lights and could not be rented. Alex, the lone employee, did not know what trucks might be at other locations. He had us (not him!) call customer service to find out. Customer service said they would return the call within 15 minutes to two hours! We were on a schedule, so we went to the nearby Uhaul location and were able to get a truck fairly easily (while paying a good bit more, and losing a lot of time). This is unacceptable customer service. I suppose I should be happy that they didn't try to charge us for the canceled reservation. This location was understaffed, the vehicles were apparently not well maintained, and they were unable to do what they had promised to do. Avoid it like the plague. read more

I recently paid a visit to West Palm and needed a rental ASAP as I had no vehicle and wanted to go site seeing while my friends where working (I was on vacation, they where hosting). We looked up this location online and had my friends drop me off on the way to work. The person at the desk (don't think I got his name correctly it was a little weird "herman" I believe) was very helpful even though I did not have a reservation. Getting a car was quick and easy. He was also able to direct to some cigar shops and great restaurant Havana on S. Dixie highway was awesome and as suggested had a good time just walking down Clematis and bar hopping. Overall a great experience, super friendly and knowledgeable as compared to getting cars at the airport which has never been quick and easy in my experience. read more

I called here a few times today (8/2/18) trying to find a 12ft rental truck. The man answering the phone very rudely stated that they only had 16ft trucks, couldn't help me find any other Avis/budget that might have 12ft trucks. Couldn't even give me a phone number to another branch. Wouldn't advise using the website either. On the website I reserved and entered my credit card info for a 12ft truck for that location today at 4pm. If I hadn't of called to confirm my pickup I would've arrived only to find that they didn't even have those trucks in stock. Worst rental experience ever with this third-party operated Avis / Budget. When we arrived the SUV we requested was not available so we had to wait half an hour for another type of vehicle to be cleaned. When we received the new vehicle there were crumbs and wrappers on the floor and the exterior was obviously not washed either. We didn't make a fuss because they already delayed our plans and we were in a rush. We rented the car at 2:30pm on Friday to return same time 48 hours later on Sunday. On Sunday, I look up their address online and it says they close at 12pm. I call to ask about their after-hours return process and they tell me that they don't accept after-hour drop offs. They have a nasty attitude accusing us of doing this on purpose and that we will be charged an extra day for the vehicle. We offer to drop the car off at a nearby location but they say we'd be charged a one-way fee. I call the corporation and they told me there should be a drop-off option and that they should have waited half an hour for us to return the vehicle. They don't clean their cars, they don't honor reservations, and they take advantage or renters by not being upfront with their hours, and don't follow their own company guidelines. Used this Avis/Budget combo to rent a moving truck today from Budget. Aside from being charged a side fee we didn't know about (and continued to fight on the phone with no help from Budget), we were given the wrong measurements for the truck. The employee said the 16 foot truck would be 8 feet high. We measured, and it was only 6 1/2 feet. Very displeased with the service as well as the company itself. Would not recommend to anyone and will not be using Budget again. read more
