Poor experience with Aviv Service Today. Our oven repair took nearly a month due to a misdiagnosis and delays. We were first quoted $295, but after the wrong part was installed, the cost jumped to $498. We ended up paying $692 total for what should've been a straightforward fix. Even after the final repair, the oven was misaligned and leaking heat. Management refused to take responsibility or offer meaningful compensation--just a future diagnostic credit, which we don't need. Terrific service call -- the icemaker in the fridge and the motor on the dryer quit working the same day. The tech, Chad, was on-time, friendly, and diagnosed both. If he and Aviv were just profit-driven, they could have sold us on some very expensive fixes. But Chad walked us through the alternatives -- repair or replace -- gave us an estimate for the repairs and his advice as a tech on models if we wanted to replace ... and Aviv would not profit from that. I had a problem -- my range hood was making a loud noise when I turned it on. I called Aviv Service Today and they said the first available appointment would be in about three weeks from when I called and that it would cost a little over $100 for them to come out. I understood that after COVID everybody's making calls again, so I took it in stride, and waited. The service tech came out, turned it on, said "yeah, you're going to need to replace this. Looks like it'll be about $800." I was shocked. A range hood blower motor is a simple thing and this thing is still pretty early on in its lifetime, so the idea that the fan would need replacement this early just seemed out of line with my expectations. I told him I would think about it and invited him to leave. The tech never bothered to actually *look* at the fan. He just decided it was broken and it needed replacement. I decided I'd take a look. While I'm neither an electrician or what I'd consider to be particularly handy, I'd like to just investigate what was making the noise. I turned the power off, pulled the range hood down, and found a screw had come loose and the fan was too close to the grate. I screwed the screws in tight, cleaned it up, and it worked like a charm. This is something that would have been EASILY DETECTED if the service tech had actually done some diligence, but for $129, I didn't get a service call, I got a sales pitch. It was professional. And they showed up on time. But they didn't do the job that I'd have liked, which is to *repair* something that works perfectly fine, not tell me to waste something and buy a new one. read more

Disappointed: Our Aviv quote was $1400 for parts and labor, but then we called manufacturer and they handled it all for just $153. Aviv's response was that they are more expensive and refused to refund the "show up" service fee since Aviv's tech did provide a diagnosis and quote even though their quote was more than times the cost via manufacturer. We will be hesitant to use Aviv again since now question if overpaid in past. The office management person was responsive and very friendly, but would have expected someone there to acknowledge this time it was swing and a miss. read more

I braced myself when Joe 'called out,' "This is not good" this past Sunday morning. Our clothes washer, just six years old, would not start ... ugh! As a Yelper, I read a number of appliance repair services reviews on Yelp and suggested that Joe call Aviv Service Today first thing Monday morning. Jessica picked up the phone on the second ring and before noon (the same day) Kyle A. was at work and quickly assessed the problem. Unfortunately, a permanent fix would require a replacement part which would take 2-3 days to arrive. Thursday afternoon, Jessica called to schedule the (next day) service call and by 11:00 am on Friday, Kyle A. was done. I honestly don't know if the charge for the service call ($100) or the replacement part was the lowest around but Joe was so pleased with his interactions with Jessica and Kyle that we would not hesitate to call Aviv again. read more

They tell you up front that there is a service charge of $89.00. Of course they do not carry all parts for all things. So, they may have to order it and come back. An intelligent person can understand this. I found their service very good. Joe was very pleasant, explained and showed me what the issue was with my washing machine. Priced the parts right there from the office. He will be back in a few days to install. I made the decisions based on his info, and yes, they also have to make a profit. This is how it's done today. We called Aviv because our microwave/oven combo suddenly stopped working. The nicest technician, Chad, came over and was able to figure out that there was a wiring problem and had it fixed in a jiffy! Not only did he fix the problem, but he did it all so neatly! I had figured we'd have some re-painting to do when the unit was pulled out from the wall, as it was painted in pretty tight. But Chad used his blade to neatly cut through the paint where it met the edge of the unit, and pulled it out with zero damage! Chad was personable and cheerful about the getting the job done and we sure appreciated him! ***CON ARTISTS*** Disclaimer: This review is directed at the ownership of this company. The professionalism of the person who is performing the task is immaterial to the quality of the company. It does not concern me that some of these grievances follow company policy. That just simply means you have bad company policies.  Point 1: "Your service window is sometime in the afternoon."  This is a direct quote. In my history of dealing with repair companies, I have never been given a window that so bluntly disregards me as customer, much less as an individual. I am forced to put my own schedule into flux because you cannot appropriately schedule jobs. A three-hour window in the morning or a three-hour window in the afternoon would easily correct this. Point 2: "It's our policy that repairmen inform the customer of the $90 service charge when they are on there way to the job." Great, now that I have rearranged my daily schedule to meet the demands of your company policy, you've now cornered me into a service charge THAT YOU EVEN DIDN'T WAIVE ONCE THE WORK WAS DONE!! I have never encountered a company that has not told me about the service charge when I booked the appointment, nor have encountered a company that does not waive the service charge when the work is actually done! I understand that individuals need to get paid for their time, and that includes travelling to jobsite, but the service charge should only be used as a means to grauntee some kind of compensation for the time taken, and not thrown in on top of excessive labor costs. Which..... Point 3: $120 for $50 part, and $200 for 40 minutes of work. Total $445.51 to replace a heating unit in a dryer. See ***CON ARTIST*** It took me effort to find a dryer heating unit that was over $100. I went through ten brands before I found one over $50. It is obvious that this company does not care about finding cost efficient parts to pass along to their clients. And $300 per hour labor charge? I know attorneys who went to some of the best national law schools who don't charge that much. And yes, I understand that I must pay up if I want somebody else to do it, but when people can learn how to replace parts themselves via YouTube, $300 per hour seems very excessive. And if it turns out that it was $200 an hour, then I got overcharged by 50% of the total time. BONUS: I still had to pay the $90 Service Charge. Point 4: See the conversation: Me "May I have the breakdown in parts and labor cost." Employee (over phone): "Not until the tech send me his report." Me "When will that be?" Employee "After he's completed his work. He will send me a breakdown of the parts used, and we'll send that to the parts department." Me "So I won't know what I paid for until well after I've paid for it?" Employee "Um, yes, that's correct." This is not an exaggeration. This is directly from the employee's mouth. When you use this company, you will not know what you are paying for until well after you've paid for it. Please see the top for the aforementioned assessment on what kind of artist this company holds itself out to be. Positive Point 1: You had two wonderful workers on the phones who clearly explained your company's policies. They were nice, empathetic, and professional. They are reason you are getting TWO stars, instead of one/none.  In summary: This company is a disgraceful example of the appliance repair industry, they are a disgraceful example of Charleston, and a disgraceful example of what southern hospitality really means. read more

I really wish I could do 0 stars. Years ago my refrigerator went out late at night and I was home alone with a newborn and a toddler. My husband was gone on a business trip across the country. I saw that AVIV offered 24/7 service and I thought great! I know this will cost more but worth it! I never got a call back. I called for 12 hours and was up all night. The woman/ slash owner's wife finally called me back and said sorry her ringer was off on her phone and when she heard me upset said, "we can't service you, call somebody else and hung up". Here we are again 12 years later with another refrigerator emergency. Company arriving tomorrow and my husband called or submitted online to every possible service. He received a call back from AVIV saying we are on the "DO NOT SERVICE LIST". I have since be helped by a wonderful smaller company. They have been nothing but respectful and kind. Do yourself a favor and stay away from AVIV and stick with the smaller service companies. read more

WARNING! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I called to have a tech come and fix a problem with removing debris that prevented the pump from draining that slipped into that area "Kyle" the tech was so rude and arrogant he was so unprofessional I wanted him to leave immediately. (I should have ). But needing your washer with 4 kids your back is up against the wall and needed it to be removed. 25 mins later Kyle said the job was finished to both my husband and I. and that the debris was removed and paid him 135.00. I also told him I will not be using Aviv services anymore because of the way we were treated. The following morning I go and turn on my washer and it doesn't even turn on. I called them and emailed them immediately to inform them that their Kyle not only didn't repair what he was hired for but clearly broke my washer because now it won't even turn on. Here was their reply to me .... Good morning Ms. Mendola, Your check payment from yesterday's visit will not be deposited, and will be shredded Monday morning when our office opens. This will be done in lieu of returning for future service visits. We think it's best for you to discontinue using our service, as our operations do not seem to align with your expectations. Thank you for the opportunity to do business with you, and we wish you the best. Sincerely, Aviv Service Today Now I will be hiring a Lawyer. As I just got a message from Aviv saying how wrong I was and that their Kyle was a star employee and that when he left he not only fixed the problem but did nothing to further break my washer this is the state my washer was left in and not being able to turn on and use ...... I have to say the professionalism this company has is so poor And disgusting. I was asked to stop harassing Aviv employees and move on.... lol. No one even spoke to any employees and have been dealing with the owner. Major Fail. I called this morning to get my refrigerator fixed. I have used Aviv for 15+ years. I am a loyal customer. But they don't care. They can be here in 11 days. Or, I can pay a premium fee of $250 on top of the repair service price/ fees and they will send someone out here today. Not only is this unfair trade practice, but it sends a clear message that I am not a valued customer. I will find another company. I am never using this company again. read more

I had them repair my refrigerator and they charged me $1800. Seemed very expensive, but I bit the bullet. A month later, my repaired refrigerator started leaking water every couple of days. When I called back to correct the issue, Aviv set up a return service call. The day they were to arrive, the repair tech told me I'd be charged another service fee of $99. When I called their office, I requested that they not charge me a service fee because the repair was so recently done, and they said they would have a manager call me back. 10 minutes later a very rude and aggressive Pam called me back and said that the repair was no longer under warranty and if I wanted to get my $1800 repair repaired I would have to accrue a whole new set of charges. I'm a little amazed how rude I was treated and how the company refused to stand by an $1800 repair. Honestly I think the tech just forgot to insulate the coils they replaced. It's an easy fix but WOW! Seems like there is no commitment to quality work or customer service at this organization. Please do yourself a favor and choose a local guy who takes pride in their work and stands by it. read more

A HUGE shout out to Aviv Service Today. My refrigerator-freezer stopped cooling and freezing so I sent them an online plea for help. They called this morning to say they would try to slip me into today's schedule for an initial visit. I explained that my husband had a doctor's appointment around noon today so while I wanted them ASAP, I also had a pressing issue. When we left the doctor's office, I text them to let them know we were done and within a very short time, their technician, Fred, called to let me know I was next on his schedule after his current call. He showed up when he said he would (I love promises kept), looked into the problem and explained they would need to order 2 parts. Within a few minutes, I had an estimate for the entire job and instructions on how to keep things operating for a few days until the parts can arrive. Now the fridge is cooling, the icemaker just dumped ice (Yay!!!) and everything will stay cold enough until the parts arrive. Excellent, Aviv! You never disappoint me! read more

I called to schedule a repair for the replacement of a door boot seal for a front load washer, for which I had the factory part. I was told that AVIV will NOT provide any service calls for which the homeowner has the required part. AVIV is expensive - I know that. I am sharing our "less than good" experience with AVIV Service not because of poor service (they were friendly and timely as always) but because of an incorrect diagnosis of the problem, incorrect warranty information provided and most of all, their failure to "make it right" after the fact. Our three year old refrigerator stopped cooling effectively a week ago and we called AVIV. They came out in a timely manner and were professional as always. After assessing the problem it was determined that our compressor was on it's way out. I asked the technician if this could possibly still be under warranty. I was informed it was not and that a repair would be $1,100 additional on top of the service call fee we paid that day. At that point I told the technician to hold on so my wife and I could discuss our options before spending $1,100 on an $1,800 fridge. That evening I called the fridge manufacture and was surprised to hear that the compressor would be under warranty (5 years parts and service) but that they would require a separate service company to come out and assess the issue. At that point I called AVIV back and asked why I was informed that the fridge was not under warranty, when it was, and was told that it's not AVIV's responsibility to determine warrantable items. (I actually have to agree with them as they could not possibly keep up with all the different manufacturers waranties.) BUT that's not what their technician told me when I asked if it was under warranty, he said, "NO it's not.", not that I should check. At that point I asked if they would consider refunding their service call charge and was told, "No." I shared that I had almost agreed to an $1,100 repair that was under warranty and that I had been assured by their technician that no warranty was in place. They again refused and said they had preformed a service assessing the fridge. Well, we had another service company come out later that week for the warranty work and we shared what AVIV had told us about the bad compressor. They said that they would like to perform their own diagnosis of the problem. After testing the compressor and considering the problem it was determined that the dual evaporator system had failed. (This was a re-occurring issue with the refrigerator we owned and the technician said it was well documented on a service website.) Two hours later they replaced the evaporator (NOT THE COMPRESSOR - which was good) and we have a very cool and operating refrigerator. I am upset that AVIV was ready to collect $1,100 on a warrantable item and informed me that no warranty beyond a year existed. I am upset that their technician miss-diagnosed the problem when I was later told that the model we have has a well documented recurring issue with the evaporator. (There are websites that list common issues with specific models that all technicians review). But I am most upset that AVIV failed to offer to refund their service fee after I informed them of the issues above. In my opinion they did not provide us a service diagnosing the wrong issue and providing us miss-information concerning the warranty. read more

The best appliance repair in the Charleston area. Used them many times while living in West Ashley. Now in Goose Creek and the second time we have called them. Disposal was not draining. Called Allison who advised they were booked up that day, but would be on the list for the next day. Our Tech was David and he found the problem to be a clogged pipe. So no you need a new disposal. It was drained and cleaned and working perfect before David left. Great company. read more

We called Aviv to service our dishwasher in Nov 2020. They first came out Dec 2020 and were unable to fix the dishwasher. They came out a total of 5 times, with 2 different technicians (charging us over $400 total for parts, labor and the 89 fee for coming out). They still could not fix it. They would not offer a refund on the labor. I contacted samsung and the technician came out 1 time and fixed it. This was about a month ago. The dishwasher has been working ever since. A neighbor of mine had Aviv try to fix their refrigerator ice maker and said after 3 attempts they ended up buying a new refrigerator. Aviv doesn't offer a refund on anything even if they cannot fix it. read more

Very rarely in the Charleston area am I pleased with service. Today I am very impressed. My washing machine stopped working on Saturday. I called a different company and they never showed up. I called Aviv at 5pm Monday and they told me they would be out to my home in the morning. 9am Tuesday, they were at my door. Doug was very pleasant and professional and he had my machine diagnosed and fixed within half an hour. He thought there might be another problem, but made certain to verify it before just charging me for a part and fixing it. Turns out, no problem! He called ahead to let me know he would be arriving at my home, which I appreciate in a company. He also told me every charge I would be billed BEFORE I was obligated to pay it and gave me the option to say no to it. I have come to rely on the fact that this company delivers what they promise. I called them this week, late in the day, with a leaking refrigerator. Aviv repairman Nate, showed up within 2 hours, found the problem, fixed it, and showed us what we need to do to prevent it from happening again (replace the filter, who knew?) He was really professional, he cleaned everything up and left us in really good shape. This is the second time I've called Aviv and my previous experience was equally good. I keep their magnet business card on my refrigerator because our appliances are getting to the age where they're going to be having more problems. read more
