Aaron dj'ed my wedding awhile ago and did an amazing job MC'ing and keeping the ceremony and toast running completely smoothly. He was a pro. Overall, flawless at this part and I was extremely happy about this! That's what earns the 3 stars. However, as hesitant as I am to say anything negative about my experience, I was disappointed in the dancing portion. Beforehand, I'd checked off his very long lists (thousands of songs) of "no songs" "okay songs," and "yes songs," really steering clear of a lot of 80s songs (some were even on the dark side, like Depeche Mode, U2's "With or Without You," which just wasn't the vibe I wanted for a wedding. I'm more of a fan of late 90s, 2000s, and 2010s pop danceable hits. When the dancing started, a few familiar hits got us on the dance floor (good start), and then suddenly it went completely 80s. My friends were confused and some folks weren't into it, so a friend of mine made a request for a more recent pop song, and he refused. He continued to play predominantly 80s songs with a smattering of 90s and early 2000s, but nothing within the past 3-4 years. I danced anyway, but it was a little disappointing that the overwhelming 80's vibe wasn't what I'd expected or checked off on the songs I wanted. In fact, I think I'd checked the "definitely" box for one of my favorite pop stars' songs and he played a song from her that was so obscure I didn't even know it, rather than one of her top hits that everyone knows and can dance to. I felt a little disappointed that I'd spent all that time checking the "no" boxes on most 80s songs to then hear them as the predominant mix on the dance floor. It definitely kept some of my friends from dancing more. I mostly checked "yes" to specifc 90s, 2000s, and 2010s hits, so I felt like there was a disconnect there. My experience was very different than the experience that most people are sharing here as far as the dancing portion. Perhaps it was just an "off" night for him? read more

First off, I was somewhat apprehensive about getting a DJ for my wedding because I wasn't all that thrilled about the idea of having the typical DJ attempting to hype up a crowd. With that being said. I wish I could give a higher rating than 5 stars! Aaron was referred to us by our wedding venue and we could not imagine anyone being more professional, fun and easy to deal with. From the first email communication to saying goodbye the night of our wedding Aaron made the whole process a breeze. I really didn't know what to expect at first, being that I've never hired a DJ. I figured you just tell them some of the stuff you like, some must haves, and must have nots, and then the DJ just does whatever the hell he feels like. Thank god, Aaron is NOT this kind of DJ! AVL is called Sound Design for a reason: He has a system for designing a sort of landscape of sound and entertainment for an amazing evening. He consults with you as much as you like, and I'm glad we had him, because he brings up great points and questions like "Are you sure all the grandparents are going to have a good time while I'm playing your requested death metal songs?". Oh yeah, good point LOL. Aaron worked with my wife and I to get a really great pool of songs for the right moments of our wedding. He gave suggestions for different moments, but knew it was ultimately our day and was cool with everything we asked for. For the we just gave him some stuff we liked for the dance party at the end of the night and ultimately just told him to go sick. THIS is the difference between Aaron and some guy with a PA system and an iPod. He can feel the crowd and read what people love and guide the party in that direction. Holy cow. Aaron is AMAZING and made me SO HAPPY at our wedding. We got married at Saratoga Springs and, if you're getting married there, you should call Aaron and book him immediately. Like right now. Do that and then come back and finish reading this review. Matt and I put together a Spotify playlist for the pre-ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and reception, and shared the playlists with Aaron. He took the best parts of them and made them even better. He clearly didn't just take the playlists and turn on the shuffle function, but he looked at them and got the vibe that we were going for with each part of the wedding. He also made it clear that he would be as involved in developing playlists as we wanted - if we were less Type A and hadn't put together Spotify playlists, I have no doubt that the result would still have been awesome. The dance floor was full the entire night. Aaron is also a great Emcee. He's the right amount of enthusiastic and is so genuine in his enthusiasm. He and our day-of coordinator together made sure that the event ran on-time the entire night. In addition to being an awesome DJ, Aaron is just a solid human. He's super nice, super chill, super easy to work with. He's also clearly a pro - he knocked it out of the park handling random song requests from the mother-of-the-bride (by the time you've moved onto the Ying Yang Twins part of the night, you're past the Beach Boys part of the night ...). 10/10 would recommend for any wedding ever. read more

Aaron is great! My husband and I recently got married at Nestldown and we loved at how familiar he was with their timeline. He hunted us down when the photographers pulled us away, he catered perfectly to the guests, he was great. Leading up to the wedding, he does send out a looooooooooooong list of songs for each aspect of the wedding. However, when I stated that the list was overwhelming and just sent what my husband and I had in mind for some moments and our music tastes, he worked perfectly with that. We also had a good hour long phone call a week or two before the wedding to really make sure everything was perfect. Our music "vibe" was perfect, he respected our tastes, and did a great job. The ONLY feedback/hope would have been that he made more announcements through the night such as "the bride and groom have s'mores by the fire pit" or loudly stated that the cake cutting was occurring (it was a brief statement) or even after cutting, an announcement on helping yourself to dessert. Working with AVL Entertainment made for an excellent experience when it came to developing a "sound" for our wedding. Right off the bat it was obvious that Aaron is a true professional that is very passionate about his craft. Never overstepping his bounds, he did an awesome job in letting us work through our selections from his extensive well curated lists of songs while gently guiding us when we were stuck on choices. My wife and I never felt pressured to make specific selections based on what the "it" songs were right now. The overall experience was very organic and collaborative. For our wedding we had a special section where my wife and I sang a duet with me playing guitar. Not only did Aaron work with us to make sure we had the proper setup, he was genuinely excited to help by conducting a sound-check, supplying guitar cables, and additional gear to make sure we had the proper sound. If you are thinking of doing something like a live performance I strongly suggest going with AVL. When it came time to get everyone onto the dance floor, Aaron did a great job of reading the group and switching up the music accordingly. His ability to mash-up songs and create totally new compositions right on the spot was an experience within itself. Aaron was so great in helping my wife and I set up our wedding, and he executed above and beyond what we could have hoped for. I had numerous people coming up to me throughout our reception thanking us for having such interesting, fun and unique music, and ever since the wedding people keep mentioning it. Aaron will work with you on where you might like certain songs to play during your wedding, and was very attentive to the music we like, which ranges from classic rock to indie to hip hop. We had multiple sit down meetings and exchanged several emails, and it quickly became evident that he knew music and our musical tastes. He had plenty of suggestions for areas we had a hard time coming up with songs for, and they all landed perfectly. The mood throughout our ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner was awesome, in large part due to the sound design. After all the typical wedding events, the evening culminated in a fun dance party. This was the most fun part of our wedding, and everyone ended up on the dance floor for at least a portion of it! Well, everyone under 65 years old... When selecting a DJ, we were not even considering how the flow of the wedding would be directed, but Aaron walked us through different ways to begin things like cutting the cake, throwing the bouquet and the garter toss. Before the ceremony we had talked about our plan and throughout the event he worked with our venue coordinator to execute it. Our reception dinner ended up moving a little slower than planned due to unexpected 20 mile per hour winds and being outdoors, but Aaron basically took the lead of coordinating the night to adapt our schedule so everyone could get moving, dancing and warming up quicker. He takes immense pride in ensuring his couples are happy, relaxed, and having the best party of their lives. What really sold us on Aaron was his unique perspective on sound design. He really takes the time to create a musical set that aligns to your musical tastes and the ambiance you are looking to create. Aaron was not only extremely responsive and professional, but he was also very personable, and took the time to really connect with my Husband and I. He did an amazing job not only with guiding us through our music selections to ensure we were creating the exact musical vibe we were looking for, but he also did an amazing job at MCing the entire reception--making introductions and announcements on point to keep the day flowing perfectly. Throughout the day, we also had different music set-ups including a string quartet and recorded music for the processional and he helped guide us on the best sound and placement for that as well.
