A sunny play on such a gray day
Gaby J.

Although I only watched one play at the Avo Playhouse, I have to say I'm a fan of the establishment. There's plenty of parking in the back and it's close to a variety of local shops to wander and see. The play that I watched, Sondheim on Sondheim, had a great cast. There was live music and a total of six very talented actors and actresses in the play. It's true that the playhouse felt small but it created a more intimate setting between the audience and the cast. The audio was good and the audience was in the slightly older crowd but overall, the scene had a good vibe and I will hopefully be back when they open the belching beaver next door :)

A must see

Parking is pretty easy with plenty of street and nearby options, and there are great restaurants around the area, perfect for dinner before an evening show. Ice cream too! Perfect location, right?! Snacks and various drinks are available before the performance, tickets are reasonably priced and easy to purchase online, and the staff is friendly. Many are volunteers and they are so sweet! The productions are high-quality and thoughtfully done. I recommend for a great night of theater. They even have musicals, so I may return for one later this year, or maybe for a comedy.

Nice Theater, "Matt and Ben" Not So Much…read more The theater has been hugely renovated since I was last there years ago -- much improved! There's a spacious lobby with a bar, although they only had one person on the bar and it was slow going. At the box office (inside) they just asked for our name and didn't bother seeing the tix on my phone. Staff were friendly. The theater itself is small. They allow drinks in that you've purchased there. (No food, although I watched one woman open a bag of crackers). The usher sent us to the wrong row, causing confusion and the letters on the end of the rows weren't obvious. There are several bathrooms, including a couple of non-gender ones. Free parking can be found at the train station behind the theater. The play we saw, 'Matt and Ben' was not great. I give it 2/5. The cast wasn't what I was expecting and it wasn't that funny, they dropped f-bombs all the time and I was ready for it to end after about 15 minutes.

They refused to work with me, refused to help or pause my membership. I told them I would happily come back when the corona virus situation was over. He told me he would call me back once he spoke to the director on what they could do for me. I never received a phone call. I had to email them and let them know I wanted to cancel my account. Come to today. I called, hoping to bring my kids back because I received an email from them stating they were going reopen on June 6th. The same guy answered the phone and recalled me. I asked if students were now coming back. He said he remembered me, that he couldn't help me because I didn't want zoom and he didn't know when the students would be allowed back. I validated the email, "We are happy to announce that we re-opened on June 6th! Students may take lessons online or come in to our studio electively based on their feelings of safety. We will continue to provide online instruction to any student who prefers to continue distance learning." He flat out lied to me. Beware. If you have any issues they will not take care of you, or help you out.

Their policy on cancellation is also questionable has they want to keep charging for the all month plus in the summer if we wanted to take a break they wanted us to pay anyway.... We recently call to sign up one of the kids and they did not call us back, not nice...

The festival was moved to the Vista Antique Gas & Steam Engine museum and it has been a great venue for this two day event held late September. They have Viking games, lots of Mead and Cider vendors, Viking clothing, jewelry, and leather accessories and the music entertainment has been phenomenal. We'll definitely keep returning whenever possible.

And the amount of people that we know that go here is growing. We meet up with several who also attend this event annually. And recognize lots of other regulars. I literally cannot wait to get the Swedish meatball dinner! It comes with smashed potatoes and lingonberries. Seriously it's the best combo. To drink is to have a drink of the times a cider or particularly a Mead! So many great and local vendors for that! This visit I got to try a free Viking Berry Monster drink. I don't usually drink these but it was actually a pretty nice treat & I liked it. This time around we came prepared with enough cash and credit...and had given ourselves a budget in order to get the drinks, food and just enough to get merch items that we wanted. I finally created a combo oil blend that I had gotten at a Renaissance faire, in No Cali, way back in the 90's! The oil is put into a vile of your choosing. So I picked a small one that doubled as a necklace. Definitely created nostalgia in a mini bottle! So much going on this year! It's a two day event and some stay and attend the entire weekend. Or they just come back the next day. If you like this sort of outing you should go!!!
