I have to say that my time there was not great but it wasn't terrible the people that work there especially for one CNA Mariah she really cared for all her patients she deserves a raise. when i first got there she really noticed that i was in major pain and tried to make me as confortable as possible. When she told me about options about the shower schedule she had to do a bed bath on me and treated me with dignity and made me feel confortable. From that day on i knew that while she was there i was in good hands with a caring person. There was a few more people there that always made me confortable and these people are the reeptionist i always called her georgeous and she called me hansome she made me feel at home i didn't get here name and i am sorry. there was two more people that really kicked my butt in therapy and they were Agnes and Ross they really worked me because they knew how bad i wanted to go home and they did not take it easy on me i appreciated that there were days when i got back to my room and just exhausted. This is the reason that this review is not five stars and it comes down to privacy. This is more for the second shift when the door is closed to the room it is only proper to knock and wait to be answered before coming in to the room. They had a habit of just walking in the room without knocking. There was a couple of times where i was in the bathroom and they just barged in and opened the door. Even though it is a kind of a hospital vibe when the door to the room is closed it should be considered being private and the courtesy is to knock not just walk in the door. if i ever have to go back for rehab i would go back to avondale read more

Eric the social worker there dose not do his Job what a joke! the rn and the cna's are great.

We moved my mom out of Avondale Estates of Elgin within 36 hours of her admission due to multiple serious concerns about her care. We requested a breathing treatment three separate times, and it was finally given about five hours later. The nurse then left the mask on and did not return for about an hour to remove it. Afterward, my mom was put to bed and the call button was left on the chair, out of her reach. Late that night, after 11 p.m., someone entered her room claiming to be a doctor. When we informed the facility about this the next day as we were arranging to remove my mom, they said they had no idea who that person could have been. Our mom has significant edema and needs to keep her legs elevated, yet the facility had no recliners available. Her only options were to sit in a wheelchair or straight chair with her feet down, or lie flat in bed. We were also told that walkers were not allowed, which raises serious questions about how patients are supposed to regain strength and mobility to safely return home. After a shower, the bathroom floor was left wet and never mopped. Our mom slipped on the wet floor while brushing her teeth. We reported this and told them we were taking her home and arranging home health instead. To make matters worse, when the home health provider called to obtain her records, their calls were not returned. Based on our experience, this was a subpar facility and we would not recommend Avondale Estates of Elgin for anyone needing attentive, safe, and responsive care. read more

Avondale is an excellent rehabilitation facility. Many members of their staff, including administration, have been there for years--something that's rare to find in a rehab setting. They are genuinely caring and truly focused on helping patients recover and return home as quickly as possible after a hospital stay. The facility is always clean and well maintained. Absolutely amazing experience!!! Love the Staff and Administration and the office people. My family members were cared for very well and the food was delicious. Thank you for being there for us in our time of need. The CNAs are kind and attentive and if you just understand their work then they will work with you as they have plenty of other patients too. The Nurses were kind and informative and I love them so much for the care to my family member. The Social Worker answered all the questions I have and covered everything we needed to started the healing journey through rehabilitation. The OT and PT are always positive and funny and the therapy room is always bright and sunny. read more

My mother-in-law went to Avondale Estates in Elgin for rehab from the hospital. It was a very unpleasant stay and after a week of decline we moved her to a different facility that could meet our needs. It was disappointing because we had several conversations with the social worker and administrators and they only provided canned responses and never made any changes. The CNAs did the best they could but many times they were out of supplies needed to take care of the residents. I would not recommend this facility to anyone and if you do choose them pay close attention to ensure your loved one is getting good care. read more

Had my Grandfather here for Hospice care (we had to select a facility in a matter of a day or two). The facility is nice, clean, and bright. My Grandfather commented on how good the food was (and the fact you get to choose). The problem is that you CAN NOT get anyone to call you back. If you leave a message for the nursing staff they will never get back to you. The Administrative staff is no better. All we wanted to know is if my Grandfather was OK, call us back in a couple hours - never called. Also, we understand the need to pay 2-weeks up-front. My Grandfather passed after 10 days. We are told that it will take 6 to 8 weeks to get a refund of the unsed time and they can't tell us how much it will be. For them being the most expensive facility in the area, you would expect better than what they provide. With all the positives, would never use them again. read more

All I can say is that if you value the safety and welfare of your loved one, keep looking. The only reason this place has higher ratings is that they make their employees rate this place like they have a loved one here receiving excellent care. It's all lies. Their deliberate neglect almost killed my mother. Had we not gotten her out to see her own PCP she would have been dead within hours. Once in the office of her own doctor, she called the paramedics and had her sent to the hospital. They didn't hold out much hope and had us preparing for the worst. Thankfully the hospital (not one recommending Avondale) was able to stabilize her and we were able to bring her home to continue her rehab there. I'd love to report them to Health and Human Services but they don't answer their phones or return calls. read more

My family member is in rehab and that is going very well. The tranfer from the hospital to Avondale went well, except for the 18 hour wait for painmeds. The nursing staff is kind and busy. Our observation of the nursing assistance is lacking organized routines and common sence to assist the shift nurse and requests from the residence. 1-2 hours of waiting to have assistance for getting into bed, dressing, sitting in the bathroom for help is unexceptible. Unfortunately the unorganized staff hurts the staff that have provided excellent service. read more

My mother-in-law stayed at Avondale 2 or 3 times due to a fall. We appreciate many of the staff who are pleasant and caring and helpful. My mother-in-law just turned 100 and is pretty good considering. But there was one major problem we had. She lost one of her hearing aids and it was never found. It was lost there. We had to purchase a new one and we were told that the cost would be reimbursed to us. After multiple tries to talk, and multiple communications that it was on the way, it never has happened. We feel we were lied to again and again. Because of this lack of intergrity by higher management there, we definitely would not recommend to others to have loved ones at Avondale in Elgin. In our minds, this is a case of abusing elderly people and then refusing to correct the problem. Beware!!! read more

They abandoned me in the bathroom at a time when I was immobile, in a wheel chair. They took some of my meds away from me. Tried to take another med away, but with that one, I was lucky. I "won" the wrestling match and GRABBED the medicine back. Took two full days to get a third med. They lied each time I asked when I was going to get it. Promises but no results. I had asked for a meal (which was all wrong) to be "sent back". Their solution to that was to just throw the meal away and not get me a replacement. I asked for a box of tissues - I got 3 or 4 rough scratchy paper towels. (P.S. Turns out they DO have tissues - they just chose not to go get me any) No way for the patient to turn the bedside lamp on or off (huge safety issue). Many days there, and only ONE session of physical therapy. I did have two full pages of notes, but these are just what I found the most egregious. read more

If I could give this place a zero I really would. This place is awful I don't know how anyone can sleep at night knowing their family is staying here at Avondale. ALL nurses ARE HORRIBLE RUDE AND CARELESS. They sit around and do NOTHING. Most cnas complain about everything. A cna in the 3rd floor is so rude I don't even know why she comes in. I spent five weeks there and was well taken care of. I am very picky and a take no crap kind of person and I have nothing bad to say about my experience there. The staff was attentive and caring. Donna was my favorite. The best part was seeing the empathy they had for other patients and how they never got annoyed by the quirks some of them had. read more

My mom was here for 3 weeks and it was a horrific experience! First they always managed to skip her on bath days! Then her call button never worked and she was left for hours with no help! They would bring her meals in but would never ask if she needed help uncovering her food! They just threw her belongings in closet and never made her feel comfortable or cared for and the worst pArt was family could not check on her! My wife was a patient there for acute rehab after multiple brain surgeries and Covid. With the lack of supervision and safety, she fell off a chair in her room and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Avondale refused to cover the ambulance or hospital bill. Our insurance wouldn't cover because we were at a " rehab facility under their care". We have tried to continue to plead our case to Avondale, the hospital and ambulance companies to no avail. Avondale no longer returns our calls and bills have now gone to collections. We have so many other bills from the month and a half in the hospital for the surgeries, we can't afford these bills that we feel should be covered by Avondale. PLEASE BE AWARE OF YHIS FACILITY!!!! read more

My mother recently spent 4 weeks at Avondale following a stroke. Our entire experience with the facility and entire staff was great. The rooms were large, private, and clean. We had as many as 8 people in there during the holidays with no problem. The staff was great from the management to the CNA's. They kept us well informed on mom's progress, and we all felt how much they cared. Overall we would say the staff is competent and compassionate. The resident social worker is Ashley. She is wonderful. Not only did she help with my mom's special needs, but she helped our entire family through a difficult situation. read more

This an exceptional short term nursing facility, including the follow up care once the patient is home. After discharge, the staff checked in on how things were going at home, and when an issue with home care arose they were very attentive and proactive, immediately offering assistance - even on the weekend! I'm writing this as a family member of a recent client, and cannot offer enough praise for the responsiveness of the staff during my loved one's stay and after discharge. read more

My mom stayed at this rehab place for a few weeks and loved the staff. The people she mentioned by name were Tara (a manager but I can't remember what she does) and Elyse (CNA). Tara brought her coffee each morning and even bought her new kcups when hers ran out. Elyse always showed a lot of kindness. Very disappointed in this facility that was highly recommended to me by very many people. First the admissions process was ridiculous and very unorganized. My mom had to wait a very longtime for help even when I was here it took me 30minutes after the call light was on for me to go to desk on, the floor. My mom's call light did not work for 2 days, and I was told that it was fixed by Christina when I called, but when I went it was not fixed. With all of the signs in the rooms that say "do not get out of bed or wheelchair without calling for help. This is absolutely unacceptable!! Well, when the call light does not work how can you get any help. Because of limited visitation due to employee having covid, I would call to get my mother's daily update and some of my calls were never returned. I am sure if it was any of the employee's family member, they would be very upset. I will say there were a few staff member's that were great, but only a few. I know that facilities are very short staffed right now, but they should still care about each and every patient. read more

Do NOT send your loved ones to AVONDALE estates. If it were possible to give negative stars it would be appropriate here. My dad needed to be rehabilitated after having COVID. The director Christina lied to my family and assured us that Avondale could handle my dads oxygen needs . This was a LIE. Within 3 days of my dads stay his oxygen level dropped to 50 percent. The therapist that was working with him at the time freaked out and started to scream while my mom was in the room that my dad was going into cardiac arrest. She did not know how to connect the oxygen mask to help my dad. Instead of calling 911 the therapist called my sister to tell her what was happening. At that point my sister insisted that an ambulance come to get him. Since the incident my dad is legitimately traumatized and afraid to move from bed. There are so many other negative aspects of Avondale but the only thing that really matters is that our loved ones are safe and I promise you that this is anything but safe . I called Allison who is in charge of this facility. She is well aware of what happened and promised me a call back that I am still waiting for. read more

My father just completed a month rehab at Avondale for a broken left femur. Avondale gave him exceptional care. I can particularly recommend the therapists. Everyone at Avondale, the administrator, nurses, cna's, cleaning crew and food prep., were focused on my dad's care and recovery. If there were issues they were resolved quickly and fairly. I had the opportunity to spend three weeks at the Avondale facility for rehab following knee replacement surgery. The staff was very professional and made the patients comfortable. The physical therapists were the best of the best and helped me obtain my objective of walking. The therapists did a great job of challenging me to reach my best performance. Exceptional facility. All private rooms. The best physical and occupational therapists who work with you enthusiastically and always have an encouraging word. Floors two and three have a common dining room or u can eat in your room, however I highly recommend the common dining room if possible. The interaction with other people is an additional therapy in its own. Excellent nurses, CNAs, entertainment staff and front office personnel rounds out this positive experience. None of us want to need a rehab facility but if u do this is the one to choose. read more

I Recently Rehabbed at Avondale Estates in Elgin, Illinois. This Facility is Located off I-90 and next to CandleWood Suites. Therefore Families Visiting from Out of Town can easily access and stay close to their Loved one. The Outside Grounds/Inside Interiors and Rooms are Impeccably Maintained. I Treasured having a Private Room and Bath, that was Cleaned Daily. From the Moment I Arrived I was made to feel " At Home " The Administrative Staff, Nursing Staff, and Attending Physicians are all Very Compassionate and Attentive. My CNA's Worked Ceasingly with Great Enthusiasm and a True Committment to Make Each Day a Wonderful Experience of Being Away from Home "Stress Free " I was in a wheelchair that was hard for me to apply the brake on one side, and Mike their Mechanic came Immediately to my room to make the proper necessary adjustment. The Activity Director and Staff worked hard to make Daily Activities Fun, and Create opportunities to Interact with other Patients. The Physical Therapy Team is " TOP NOTCH" You Will Find them Compassionate, Thorough, and will Help You Not Only Meet but Exceed Your Recovery Expectations!!
