Sold $3MIL in my 2nd year and was owed $100K in commission after the year but was fired so they could Welch on their promises of paying me. Really unfortunate here. I live in Northbrook - basically in their backyard. I own a 1200 sq ft townhouse and needed my gutters replaced. Avondale came to me through a friend that used their services about 5 years ago. I'm guessing something was different back then. I had Leo, their contractor, come out to the house and I had an estimate in hand on the 20th. So far, everything was going well. Leo was cordial, professional and very polite. His estimates were a bit higher than I was expecting based on conversations I had with other contractors - but because they were recommended to me, I was willing to pay a bit extra for good service. I was wrong. After two weeks - I emailed Leo and asked what was going on? He told me that his main office would get in contact with me. A couple of days later - Kathy from their office gave me a call, and said they were completely booked up and that I would have to wait. When I spoke with Leo in October - I did say that the work was pressing and that I really needed it done. However, as Kathy described it - The season was getting the better of them and they were swamped. I was assured that I would get a call back from Kathy in a week to schedule. OK... After two more weeks and no communication (almost a month and this point) - I had the time to shop around, quite a bit, and get competitive quotes. Each of the quotes coming back to me were AT LEAST $125 less than what Avondale quoted me. Still no call back from Avondale. After a full month - I called back and again spoke to Kathy. She was apologetic, but that still doesn't excuse the fact that there was zero communication letting me know that there were STILL NINE people ahead of me - and that they weren't even close to scheduling me. I was a bit frustrated with the lack of communication and said I was still willing to do business with them if they would come down on price a bit. I got in contact with Avondale again today and they said their price is firm. So pay a premium for crappy service? I said no thanks, wished them luck with their business and will be moving on with their competitors. I will also be having a chat with my friend who recommended Avondale to me. We had Avondale completely replace the roof of our 1925 bungalow about 13 years ago. It was a great experience--no complaints. Sadly I think they've met the fate of many third generation family owned businesses. We need to replace the roof of our detached garage and repair a leak on the roof of our house. Chris, whose business card reads "future owner" came to give us an estimate. Based on our previous experience with this company, if the estimate was affordable, we'd have had them do the work without seeking other estimates. That was about four weeks ago. Two weeks in we asked when we could expect an estimate. We were told the next day. We're still waiting. I picked up my iPad to look for other options but stopped to share my disappointment. read more

Very poor customer service and follow up. After initial contacting me and saying they would take a commercial job. When I indicated we would like to move forward with the job they gave me the run around about renting equipment and pricing material to start the job the upcoming week. I never heard from them again. Instead of just saying they didn't want the job they just did and said nothing. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY...not solvent and sounds like they perform zero due diligence on subcontractors they use. I've fully paid for roof, soffit, and fascia on time 50% up front and 50% when the final invoice came through. Job was completed in October 2017 and payment from me sent...in November 2017 I received a notice of potential lien from a subcontractor they used. No information about this subcontractor nor their right to place a lien on my property was presented at any point in working with Avondale. After talking to Avondale they admitted they didn't pay the subcontractor and that they didn't have any money. Their plan was to wait until warmer weather so that newer jobs could pay off the bill from the sub they used on my property -- AWFUL ponzi scheme like business model. Understandably the subcontractor did end up filing a lien on my property. I've needed to contact legal help to help remove the lien that was placed. read more

Great Company, I called for and scheduled an estimate, they had to re-schedule for a future date but called ahead, which was fine. I met Tom he explained all my options to repair a flat roof in the back of a rental house i own. I then realized it made sense to have him quote me the entire roof which was in really bad shape. the combine quote was $8000.00. I had gotten other quotes for the same house in the past for 10 to 12 thousand but never wanted to spend the money on the rental, so i knew it was a fair price. I called them with a credit card number and they came out two days later and completed the work in one day. VERY clean, no nails left behind. read more

Really great Company. Needed to replace roof due to high winds, and storms. Tom came out and checked the roof, very nice guy. Our Insurance company covered most of the cost, but we would have had to still pay a difference. Tom worked it out so that we only ended up paying the deductible. He Really helped us throughout the job. Also, old roof removed, new roof added, all garbage taken care of, and everything swept up & left clean in 1 Day! By 3 pm they were gone. Oct-19. Had two garage roofs shingle teardown/repaired (plywood replacement)/re-shingled. The workers were extremely nice. The job was done very well. Cleanup was thorough, even using a magnetic roller to gather all nails in the alley. Completed both garages in less than 5 hours. As for this shingling project, am very pleased with the results. read more

Called Avondale about snow and ice build up on our roof this past spring and they came out and removed it. They were easy to schedule and did a great job at a fair price. I had them come back out when the weather improved to assess my roofs condition and quote us for a replacement. The quote was fair and materials quoted were top notch. They just finished installing the roof and gutters going up as I type this. The work performed has been quite good! I would strongly recommend them to anyone looking for a quality roofing company. read more

My landlord used this company to repair our roof. They had roofing everywhere. Killed our plants, blew our electricity, left gas cans on the lawn after they all went home for the day. I asked that I get some kind of warning before they threw stuff off the roof, for their dumpster was located at my front door. No on spoke English! I don't know about the work but their customer service was appalling and very inconsiderate. read more

I was referred to Avondale by a contractor. Seven years ago they came to inspect my aging roof, recommended minor repairs, and completed them quickly and inexpensively. Three years later some tree removal was done at my house and there was damage to shingles - again, Avondale recommended repairs, with a roof replacement probably needed in two years. I waited three years to call them, and just had then replace my roof with architectural shingles, which are beautiful, and also had new gutters, downspouts and leaf guards installed to alleviate some problems I had with water draining at the foundation wall. I am completely pleased with the result, fair price, and competence of the crews sent to do the work. This roof is my third since owning the house for 32 years, and it is the first replacement done by a truly professional contractor. I recommend them very highly. read more

The main salesman that came to the house seemed experienced and gave me a lot of info. The receptionist was nice but didn't seem to know what was going on ever. I had to do the follow up on my project status. The roof was completed in time and looked great, but the subcontractor did not do a small portion of flattop roof which i had paid for. I ended up with a leak and damage in my home; i contacted avondale about what happened and they sent the sub right over the next day to confirm what went wrong and they fixed in the following weekend. Overall, it was a job well done, but the company was not good with keeping me informed and following up with me. read more

Same issue as previous review. We just got a new roof. Looks great and job was completed quickly, but a couple weeks in we found a leak. It was on a weekend so they promised to have some out on Monday between 3-4. At 4 they call and say they can't make it. We are pretty shocked that they at least didn't send someone out to talk to us that day. Today they sent a couple guys out to repair. Husband showed them the issue, explained we wanted all the vents checked again not just where the leak was. The guys went up on the roof and then left a little while later without coming back to explain what was done. So, we are not confident that this issue has been resolved. read more

Not happy with this company, and they never did any work. I thought Leo was a nice guy when he came out to look at our leaking roof. He promised to email an estimate to us. Well, after several weeks, still no estimate. If these roofers already have too many jobs going on, please just be honest and tell us you are unavailable to do this job at this time. At least give your prospective customers something. Not responding at all is a poor business practice. read more
