They fixed the problem - on time - didn't overcharge. They had her go back after two weeks - before she went back to the emissions test. Ran a scan and confirmed she would pass. I started using AW Auto Repair about 18 months ago on the recommendation of a friend who takes all of his vehicles -- both business and personal -- there. Michelle and Rick and Jim could not be any nicer, competent and agreeable. I'll admit that I am kind of a high maintenance customer, calling repeatedly to check the status, costs, etc., but they never make me feel like a nuisance! My most recent with them came experience on 1/10/15, I had been having trouble with my car for a few months -- unreliable heat, some shakiness on acceleration, etc. but on this day, I was on my way to the store early morning when my car started smoking from every orifice -- hood, tail, smoke even coming in to the car. Temperature gage shot way up to red, heater started blowing ice cold air and the windows were covered in a layer of frost. Re-routed to go straight to AW! When they tried to start my car and bring it in to the shop to take a look, it would not even start. At this point, I cleaned out the car (2005, 120K mile Honda) and made arrangements to borrow a car from my parents until I could go out and get a new one. Figured Michelle would be calling me with an astronomical repair cost and I would just take whatever I could get for parts. THREE DAYS LATER I picked up my car -- paid the $300 needed to replace a part and happily drove off in a vehicle that was driving like a new car! These guys are seriously top-notch! read more

The most honest mechanics ever. We had a problem with our car and it cost around $200 for the right side wheel (Sorry I cannot remember what it was). My husband suspected the other wheel may be bad too and we were prepared to pay for both. They looked at it and told us it was completely fine. When they drove our car out to us the mechanic realized that there was something a little wrong and adjusted it. He could've just given it to us and we wouldn't have knows. Without question, the nicest guys and the most honest & dependable auto shop around. I first came to these guys several years ago with a Hyundai 2001 XG300 check engine issue that had plagued my car for 2 years. At any moment, the light would come on and the car would slam into first gear. I took the car to the Hyundai dealer 12 - 15 times. They couldn't repair it. I took it to other auto shops. They couldn't repair it. Frustrated and out of my mind at how much money I had thrown at this problem, I took it to A&W Auto. I spoke with Jim at the front-desk (I don't think there's a nicer or more knowledgeable guy around) and he said, "Yeah, I think I know what it is." I left the car there, picked up the car the next day, and I never had the problem again. At that instant they became my auto guys for life and they've been servicing my cars ever since. Always dependable, always honest, and always fairly priced. My most recent contact with them came today when I took the car in because the driver's side windshield wiper fluid sprayer had stopped spraying and the passenger side wiper blade had stopped working (one side wiper and no fluid, the other side, fluid and no wiper - you gotta laugh.) Anyway, Jim comes outside, I demonstrate the problems and he says, "This will be easy - if you wait a couple of minutes we'll get these fixed for you." So they take the car in the back and 5 minutes later, they bring the car around and Jim says, "It's all working now - you're good to go." So I said, "How much do I owe you?" Its hard for me to trust mechanics, but these guys are very good. I had a very small leak in my coolant, they could have done all kinds of fixes which would not have solved the problem. The problem was a very tiny tiny leak, and they were able to fix it! Over all, I was extremely satisfied with thier service, and now found my permanent mechanic. By far the best experience with a local mechanic. I've used a different place in Hanover Park for years and they have changed for the worse. I called AW Auto Repair to put new brakes on the car. Took my car in there after having rough idle and check engine light come on-Called Jim at 8 am on friday to bring my car in- he said he would get right on it-had it there by 9am- waited until the next afternoon and called- was told he was busy and hadnt had time to get to it...I explained I was taking off work to get this complete and it was costing me even more to wait. He assured me he would be able to get it diagnosed that day, which he did call me back hours later and told me it would be $477.00 for the repairs caused from my intake manifold and a faulty hose- He said this is the problem- I told him to fix it- as they were closed on Sunday I called back on Monday at which point he told me that there was a problem- It didnt fix the problem and he admitted he wasnt willing to pursue the problem further as he doesnt have the know-how to work on Cadillac Engines...and told me to have it towed to the dealership for repairs...After paying him for the "service" he performed I had to have it towed out to the dealership for a additional 100 bucks- Once at the dealership I had them do their diagnosis and they found my shrader valve had been tampered with and broken- now my vehicle is leaking fuel everywhere....Wasnt told this from A&W and will never ever bring my car or any mode of transportation to them-Lesson learned- cheaper and friendly doesnt always do the job- I will never bring my car back there and suggest you do the same if you own a newer vehicle. So in the end cost me 500.00 bucks for him to take 5 days and break a valve- Thanks A&W! read more
