In April 2011 I decided to make a change…read more Why I did this - - A trip to my doctor brought news of high blood pressure (borderline medication); high cholesterol (the bad kind); over a healthy weight (minimum 10 lb. loss required); and an inflamed liver... - I was losing my natural ability to multi-task and remain focused while still achieving my desired results across the multiple projects I was working on - It was becoming increasingly difficult to get up and get my day started as my nights were restless and sleep was limited What I did - - Worked out twice a week with Grant Hill of MyBootcamp with less focus on cardio and more attention to sculpting the entire body with tools such as TRX Suspension Training and Rip Trainer, a fire hose, sledge hammer, and a 60 lb. tire - After the first month I added in a weekly spinning class and either pilates or yoga to keep my body challenged - Read books like Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson and Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes re-educating myself and challenging what conventional wisdom tells us about what we should eat - Treats are certainly allowed but for the most part I eliminated grains -- wheat, oats, barley, rice, corn, flax, etc. -- and avoided processed foods, anything with sugar What I didn't do - - Give up my wine -- this wasn't a suicide mission - Count calories -- I ate every time I was hungry - Excessive cardio -- focus was on strength training with occasional bursts of cardio - Avoid egg yolks and red meat as you are usually advised when watching cholesterol -- I ate more that I did previously What did I get after three months? - Dropped 20 lbs. - Lower blood pressure eliminating the need for medication - Lower bad cholesterol, back in the safe zone ...and my liver returned to normal. That was over a year ago and I'm still 20 lbs lighter than when I started - AND my last physical has me still in great health! Working with Grant was a life changing experience for me. His kind nature and genuine care for his clients is evident in how he advises and trains each individual. It wasn't just me! I've had a half dozen friends work with Grant after watching my transformation and the chain keeps growing - Love it :)

MyBootcamp is hands down one of the BEST workouts in the DC area. If you're looking to get harder,…read morebetter, faster, stronger in the most efficient and functional way possible - MyBootcamp is it. I first met Grant at his indoor cycling classes at Revolve, and his rides were and always are mentally and physically tough. I had started to build up my endurance and strength through cycling, but the thought of trying out MyBootcamp was still intimidating. I mean, c'mon - I saw pictures of MyBootcampers pulling tires, slamming firehoses, and tossing sandbags. I thought I wouldn't survive my first session last March, but afterward I actually felt like a complete badass. I whipped that firehose and learned how to properly do kettlebell swings, among other things. Plus I was the only girl there (thanks Matteo, Rob, and Neal for letting me kick your butts that day :). (Side note: most sessions are filled with fit, athletic and attractive ladies, so all the single men in DC should definitely sign up... just sayin' ;) ) Four months later and I'm incredibly proud of how strong I've become because of MyBootcamp. Grant and Chris have taught me how to really push myself mentally and physically. They know exactly when and how to push me to get past my comfort zone, and because of that, my endurance/strength/mobility levels are at the highest they've ever been. Now I'm addicted to improving those levels with each workout, and my two favorite "Grant-isms" that stick with me every time are 1) There is never perfection, only progress; and 2) Being strong is only good if it's actually useful. Other things that I love about MyBootcamp? I love that the workouts are outdoors; I love the camaraderie; I love the new mobile app which makes managing your MyBootcamp addiction even easier; and most importantly, I love how much Grant and his team care about you. Thank you, Grant and the MyBootcamp team - I couldn't be more thankful.

***I would actually give it 3.5 stars***…read more Background: I work out about 6x/week and I'm a runner. I completed the 7 day free trial period with my friend and that's the basis for this review. Pros: -Great for people who enjoy working out in groups -Efficient 45 min workout -You sign up for classes via their dedicated app, then it can be added to the calendar in your phone -The raised padded floor is great for those of us with knee problems, it makes for a soft landing - they have child care -you can complete workouts from home video chat -they have women's only classes -unisex bathrooms with baby changing tables -they offer one-on-one support with nutrition (not sure how often) Cons: -Not so great for people who need more instruction because the class moves quickly -About 5-7 mins of the 45 mins is dedicated to warm-up and instructions, which makes for a short workout for some - The app doesn't tell you what the focus of the workout is going to be, so if you work out on your own you risk working on the same muscle group you already focused on by yourself -only class based workouts, no cardio machines, no time to stretch or do anything on your own -not open on Sundays -No locker room/showers Overall: This would make for a great secondary gym for someone who can't focus/doesn't have the motivation to complete HIIT workouts on their own (seeing as how there are plenty of free options online). It's a no frills, no thrills type of gym, get in, do your workout, and leave. They don't even have towels you can use. It's all about community here, so if that's what you're looking for, then this would be good for you. You must wear a face mask everywhere except while on the padded floor.

I initially got hooked as I was unfocused at the gym. The daily variety with the protocol sets up a whole week of great workouts. Complimentary child-watch for those with kiddos - allowing you can have 45 mins of time for you for your workout! Always tons of high fives and encouragement from everyone during the workout and overall such a great vibe!

Often I hear from the stronger, fit members "you can do it" or "good job" or other words of encouragement. The fellow bootcampers are friendly and welcoming. Jacob organizes "challenges" sometimes you are working with a partner to encourage each other and other times. They last for about one month. Lots of fun and heathy prizes. The morning class is at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. We work out there all year round, sometimes on their deck overlooking the bay or on the beach or on rainy days under their building. I am not in shape but attending GroupFit I am getting there! If I miss a couple of classes Jacob checks in with me to ask "where you are and when are coming back?" There are all levels at the bootcamp and there is no embarrassment or shame if you are using 5 pound weights and the person next to you is using 25 pound weights. One negative- we have to do burpees during the workout but I am learning to do them well and I am getting into shape!

With this bootcamp every workout is different and the variety keeps me coming back. Jake is an excellent instructor and knows how to both push you but also provide positive feedback. The classes consist of all ages and body types and the exercises are designed in such a way that everyone can do them but you can really push yourself as well. Everyone that I have met in the class has been very supportive and welcoming. I highly recommend this class if you looking for a fun way to get stronger and slimmer.

Per the contract you have to wear a "uniform." What that uniform is, is not specified but you can assume it's a Soldierfit shirt. If you intend to workout often, 5 days or more a week, you have to wash the same shirt everyday or risk being admonished or have your membership terminated without a refund ( meaning you have to pay in full If you have a 6 month or year membership). Or you're simply unhygienic and wear a sweaty shirt multiple days in a row. The own Steve stated I could purchase more shirts, which is ridiculous given I'm paying 129 a month. Providing new members with three shirts to start off would be more reasonable but as I mentioned the gym is money focused not patron focused. In general, the workouts are okay but the atmosphere is very lackluster and better suited for ppl looking to learn how to workout rather than ppl with fitness or an athletic backgrounds. Patrons can also be distracting as they often will ask me what to do instead of the instructor. This is okay from time to time but can be burdensome to ppl looking to focus in on their own goals and workout. Overall, I regret signing a year contract and will be be very cautious when dealing with any future contracts with uniform requirements that could impact or promote poor hygiene. Note, Rockville is a more fast pace athletic gym so there are alternatives. Gaithersburg is a very small gym and the instructor I met was not attentive or appreciative of my time when I met with him for a consultation. Note, Gaithersburg offered me a 90 dollar rate but Clarksburg charged me 129, once again showing how money centric the owner of Clarksburg is.

The manager took my information to send via text information about pricing, contract terms and conditions, etc. that I asked about when I walked in. I received only pricing information the same day (Wednesday, 6 Sep). I replied via text same day with thanks and asked if Joel was available the following week for the initial assessment and was told that if anything opened up, I'd receive a text (and that another trainer might be available). I responded that I didn't mind waiting for Joel and said the waiting list is fine, but could I get on the schedule for his next available opening -- just to be sure there was something confirmed on the calendar at some point because what if I couldn't make it to a spontaneous opening. I did not hear back. So I followed up via text two days later, Friday, 8 Sep... I kindly reiterated that I'm happy to have my name on a waiting list, but could I also just secure a date for an available time in the future -- even if it's a couple weeks away -- for the peace of mind ... otherwise I'd just consistently have to hope that something might open up and that my schedule would align (a likely challenge!). The manager responded and thanked me for my patience, again saying she'd try to get me in next week and that Joel is booked. AGAIN, I said that I didn't mind waiting, but could I Please. Just. Schedule. A. Known. Open. Slot. (in addition to the waiting list, fine). Once more, the manager either missed or disregarded my point entirely, saying once again that she would try to get me in soon and to be patient. Two and a half weeks later, and I haven't heard back since... Patience wasn't the issue -- I said multiple times that I didn't mind at all to wait (I didn't expect him to be available the next day!); I just wanted to secure a future spot without relying on the hope of a random opening. That's not unreasonable for a person with a full-time job. I spoke with a friend whose experience reflected a similar challenge--said that every week, it was a struggle to get on the trainers' calendars. Seems they've got plenty of business to keep everyone busy, so that's great for them as a small business in a competitive industry, but boy am I disappointed at this approach to business operations and (prospective) customer service. I was excited about picking up my wellness journey here; it's a shame.

The whole 45 minutes of intense exercise is very well designed class, aimed to push you to the limit (not easy to do while coordinating 8 people and limited space) . Personal training for a reasonable price is excellent as well. The workout usually target whole body which is great (no separate leg or upper body days) Fusion beats the pretentious and $$$ Lifetime, where the classes are not during convenient time and expensive. The cheaper version to be considered is N-Zone - thats smelly other people socks though and not overly clean. Another choice perhaps would be a private friend-of-a-friend-woman-owned gym - a very questionable quality and fitness knowledge. There is no doubt in Fusion's trainers expertise - Joel and Anthony are extremely fit. Joel, Anthony and Gloria rock! Great business value proposition and fitness done right. XO
