After visiting a few of the other stores we made our way over to La Choco Salty & Sweet to grab a quick sweet to eat and support a local shop. From the outside it looks like just a chocolate shop, but the sweets section is just a small area up front and the rest of the store is tourist type products to buy like clothing, knick-knacks, etc. The sweets area is cute, they have a little cafe type area set up for a few people to sit and they have all the chocolates on display. Most of the treats look pretty good, but the prices are a bit high for some of the things. We generally enjoy grabbing a few truffles when visiting sweet spots like this so we selected four truffles to try. They do not have clear pricing in the case for the truffles nor do they provide any kind of hint to what is inside of some of them aside from the name of the truffle. I had asked the woman working what was inside one or two of them and she seemed annoyed I asked. We ended up getting the four we picked out anyway, and I was kind of bummed afterward. Not only were they $3+ EACH but they tasted like they had sat in the display case for several days. They were a bit hard, stale and didn't really have a lot of flavor to them so I was a little upset we had spent about $17 here on five things of chocolate that weren't really anything to write home about.

The owner of Blackbird Cafe (a wonderful cafe just a couple blocks away) brightened up the walls and put together a great little spot for a cuppa joe and a casual bite to eat, and get this: No, the froyo toppings aren't unlimited, they're... FIVE CENTS. The first topping is free, actually, but after that -- oh, please, don't fleece my wallet -- five cents each. One nickel. No no, don't worry, I've got the check. Look, toppings selection is limited, so are froyo flavors, but I'm not uppity about my cold treats. The samoa bar, although messy, had the right amount of chocolate (I love plenty) and the red velvet was soft, cakey, and big.
