Very good Mexican-American restaurant with very reasonable prices. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. My family all got different things (even some non-traditional Mexican restaurant options) and enjoyed them.

First timer here and in overall, it was a great experience. Food was really delicious, ambience was very comfortable and inviting, and the service was amazing. The jalapeño margarita that I tried was very flavorful as well as the jalapeño poppers that we ordered as appetizers. My main dish was made with chicken, steak, pork, and queso blanco all put together into a 'volcano' dish, which made of all of them a very tasty experience. The meat was very well seasoned and tender to the cut; really, really good!!! And for dessert, I had the home made flan (was able to get one of the last two available for the day since this is a very popular one !) and it was very delicious. And to add to our great experience there, our server was amazing!! She managed to take the order to perfection, was willing to offer her opinion on the drinks and entrees, which both were a hit, and assisted us with a very positive attitude and smile. She was wonderful!! I wish a lot of success to Ayda's and many blessings in all the years to come! Looking forward to dinning at Ayda's when back in town for business...

Great Mexican spot! Rensselaer is a new halfway meeting point when we meet grandma and pickup our kids after a visit. We were craving Mexican for dinner on our recent visit and Ayda's delivered. Nice big restaurant, great service and great food. Also very affordable for a family dinner.

We were Rensselaer for the day because of work and decided to stop here for lunch. I had the two ground beef Mexican taco plate. They were fantastic! Fresh and flavorful. Same goes for the chips and salsa. Add the great service and you have an easy 4 stars. If we ever find ourselves in Rensselaer again, I'm not going to bother to look for another place to try.

Combination platter #2 (Tamale and enchilada)

I arrived on a Saturday evening just before 6pm. They had a few tables, but they certainly didn't appear rushed. Nice decor overall; looks like a Tex Mex restaurant. When I walked in it was a bit confusing. I had to walk up to the bar and ask where to be seated, "Sit wherever you like." I was quickly brought a menu and I ordered. I got the combination platter #2 (Tamale and enchilada) with rice and refried beans. I received my food in about 15 minutes. The tamale was warm, but everything else was cold. The food was also a bit bland, but that isn't too surprising because it's in Rensselaer, IN. It was fine, but I probably won't come back.

Um WHAT THE HECK order the super enchiladas and order them ASAP

So my husband and I are full time RVers. We've been all over the Midwest and I can tell you this is some of the very best Mexican food we have eaten... anywhere. I really wouldn't have guessed I'd find such amazing food in Rensselaer. Like what the heck. Seriously OUTSTANDING!!!! Eat here NOW

Family owned, friendly service, fun atmosphere and good authentic Mexican food! I visit frequently for lunch or dinner. Some of my favorite dishes include Arroz con pollo, shredded beef Mexican tacos and chicken enchiladas. I also thoroughly enjoyed their Cinco De Mayo special, Barbacoa tacos. Try a house margarita or special hibiscus margarita with a sugar rim. Finish off your meal with caramel flan or fried banana. We are looking forward to nicer weather and their new outdoor seating!

We stopped in here, while driving through, as out-of- towners. It was fantastic! Friendly staff, clean, good food, and great ambience!

If you are looking for something more like a family restaurant, far removed from the tourist areas in almost any Mexican city or town, then you have found the right place. The place is clean. The chairs, tables and booths mismatched and well used but serviceable. The menus photocopied. The lighting is a little harsh. There's the compulsory photo of the Pope and the Madonna hanging in the corner. All of this and great food combine to make this my go to place for authentic Mexican cooking. I just sat down for a carry it dinner of 3 tacos pastor ($7.95 - Mexican style with cilantro, onion and tomato, thank you) some very good rice and the best beans I have had since I moved here from Chicago in 2005. I wish I could have shown you but I thought about pictures after I ate ... the smell was driving me wild! If your looking for real, authentic, family cooked food ... Get off of I-65 at exit 215, drive about 3 miles East to the stop sign, turn left and look for the orange building on the right. You won't be sorry. I'm thinking about going back again tomorrow!

I would have enjoyed the lovely patio, but it also looked like it was about to rain! Our server was very nice and gave some excellent recommendations. Instead of chips and salsa, we were served their potato flautas. It was a nice change of pace. I usually fill up on chips and salsa and can't finish my main entree. For the table, my brother ordered a house special entree - Mariscada Valero's - which is a variety of sautéed seafood served with tortillas. It was perfect for sharing with our four person group. For my main dish, I ordered the skirt steak tacos with coconut rice on the side. I love coconut and I love rice. Who knew they go together so well! The skirt steak was cooked perfectly. I had my leftovers for breakfast and the skirt steak was still tender! I did try the lobster tacos (my sister-in-law's favorite). They were yummy - although a bit spicy. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it! Overall, we were really happy with everything. I will definitely make it a point to come here on my next visit!

Waited 10 minutes before she approached. She didn't know the drink menu and we waited more than 20 minutes for her return. Then we noticed why. Not only is she waiting tables, she's acting as bartender for her tables, as were the rest of the servers. We found out later that it's the owner's idea to not have a dedicated bartender. Absolutely ridiculous. After she dropped our drinks she took off to a different table. Can we order appetizers? She finally returned, took the app order and then went back to her bartending duties. Cutting to the chase...after we ate our entrees she finally checked back. Way too late to address our concerns about the food. About the menu...way overpriced for what was offered for marginally tasting food. Asked her to divide the check by 3 charging the two couples and the single what was ordered. Big mistake as she tried several times to get it right. Overall it was a bad experience and will not return. Too many options in Valparaiso to settle for this disappointment.
