My experience at Ayda's Mexican Cuisine: The food at this restaurant was very tasteful and delectable, the ambience was great and it was very clean. The service on the other hand, was honestly unacceptable, my waitress, who I believe was named Sheena, was rude and disrespectful, something that stuck out to me was her asking for our drinks in a ill-mannered way, saying "what you want?". I arrived on a Saturday evening just before 6pm. They had a few tables, but they certainly didn't appear rushed. Nice decor overall; looks like a Tex Mex restaurant. When I walked in it was a bit confusing. I had to walk up to the bar and ask where to be seated, "Sit wherever you like." I was quickly brought a menu and I ordered. I got the combination platter #2 (Tamale and enchilada) with rice and refried beans. I received my food in about 15 minutes. The tamale was warm, but everything else was cold. The food was also a bit bland, but that isn't too surprising because it's in Rensselaer, IN. It was fine, but I probably won't come back. read more

We were Rensselaer for the day because of work and decided to stop here for lunch. I had the two ground beef Mexican taco plate. They were fantastic! Fresh and flavorful. Same goes for the chips and salsa. Add the great service and you have an easy 4 stars. I normally don't leave reviews but this was something that needs addressed. Aydas is usually quick and has good food. But there is a certain waitress that can't seem to handle working. She takes a LONG time to do much of anything. We ordered queso and she seemed to have forgot about our table. Keep in mind there are only 3 family's at the restraunt besides us. She just sat at a stool in the bar area looking at the wall ignoring us. Never got drink refills. Had to go up front to ask for more chips due to lack of everything. We were never checked on and another waitress had to bring us our cold food and do everything for this woman. Not satisfied. Very disappointed. read more

Family owned, friendly service, fun atmosphere and good authentic Mexican food! I visit frequently for lunch or dinner. Some of my favorite dishes include Arroz con pollo, shredded beef Mexican tacos and chicken enchiladas. I also thoroughly enjoyed their Cinco De Mayo special, Barbacoa tacos. Try a house margarita or special hibiscus margarita with a sugar rim. Finish off your meal with caramel flan or fried banana. Nice little Mexican restaurant....seems like every small town has one! Their salsa was awesome! Lots of good flavor and spice. I had a side of guacamole which was only $3. It could've used a little more seasoning but overall it was very tasty. The chicken quesadilla was as expected. All came on a big plate with beans, rice and toppings. Nothing special. Three stars only because the service was extremely slow. I waited at my table with no menu for at least five minutes. He never did give me any napkins or tableware. I ended up having to get it to go because I was late getting back to work. But the staff was very friendly. read more

Shrimp cocktail was awesome! Had the taco plate. Steak tacos with onion and cilantro. Beans and rice seem fresh and not canned. Very tasty but was hoping for more food quantity. Sister had the tostadas which she reported as excellent. Service was decent. Horchata was good not spectacular. Place is reasonably authentic. Chips and salsa were decent. Hot sauce left a little to be desired. Prices are reasonable but food portions are on the skimpy side. All & all a real good place for a meal across from the courthouse. Yesterday was my 2nd visit here. Both times the food was delicious and came out of the kitchen quickly. My daughter always gets the cheese quesadilla dinner. The quesadilla was a nice size and the cheese was melted perfectly. Rice was good too. I had the chicken taco salad. Yum. The shell was edible and they are always greasy, no matter where you get them. But the chicken taco meat was very tasty. Not dry. The complimentary chips and salsa is fantastic. Probably my new favorite salsa. Next time we are in Rensselaer, I know where we will be eating! Cant wait to try the fajitas! I'd also like to try the chicken soup. I've always heard so much about this top notch Mexican Cuisine, being from the area. Tonight I finally dropped by and the food was phenomenal. Great service! My hostess, Mikayla I believe her name is was really helpful in helping me make my decision of what to try. She recommended my the perfect dish and the perfect drink to complement it. Stumbled across this true gem by accident. It's across the road on the SW corner of the Jasper County Courthouse. Very attractive atmosphere and very clean inside. It's one of those ma & pa restaurants you seek out for true authentic home cooking. The food could not have been any better, being flavorful without being heavily seasoned. I had a #4 combination and selected the Mexican taco. An excellent choice. The enchilada was covered with the right amount of sauce and the shredded beef was perfectly seasoned and tender. Speaking of perfection in beef, the steak fajitas could be considered a masterpiece! In all my years I have been complaining about how fajitas were universally overcooked to dry, burned, tough strips of salty leather at restaurants. I am thrilled to say: Not Here! The steak was cooked perfectly, even the faintest hint of pink leaving the meat juicy and tender, seasoned enough to make you appreciate the flavor without it being salty or over-seasoned. Happy to say the onions and (green and red) peppers accompanying the fajitas still had a bit of freshness crunch to them, not being overcooked to soggy limp cellulose. Running long here so let me wrap up quickly. Mom & pop are the wonderful chefs and the son seems to manage the very friendly waitstaff with an employee atmosphere of enjoyment. They do have what appears to be a limited number of alcoholic beverages. There is no full bar where you would just go to drink. They have parties coming up for Valentines Day and the superbowl they invited everyone to, and their concern for your satisfaction make you feel like part of the family. Go out of your way to try this very reasonably priced food that won't be too spicy for sensitive stomachs but will satisfy your desire for flavor, just as it is supposed to do! read more

If you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine, your search is over! The queso is a must! The salsa is mild so if you like a kick ask for some of their own hot sauce to add in to your liking. My personal favorites are the chicken taco salad, Mexican tacos with chicken and the shrimp diablo. We've always had quick, attentive service. There is enough space for your larger gatherings. We eat here regularly. They have good service and good food. However, I ordered vegetarian fajitas and specifically asked our waitress if the veggies were cooked with the meat and she said they were not cooked together. Then I find bits of meat mixed in my fajita vegetables. Ordering Vegetarian should mean there would be no meat in my veggies especially when I asked to be sure. I'm very disappointed. I'm not sure if they can accommodate a vegetarian by request but don't rely on your server to know how anything is prepared. read more
