I was treated like I wasn't welcome from the minute I walked in. I was seated, I was only one in the place. I was rushed to order, even though I told her twice I would like to have my margarita and chips and salsa,....she kept coming back. Then when I finally did get my food, they were cleaning up around me and soooo rude anout it. One worker was even on his phone while he was cleaning. I don't know about you, but I love listening to people's conversations and smelling harsh chemicals while I'm trying to enjoy a quesadilla and marg. ‍ I really wish they would've just said, " Hey lady, we're closing early tonight" when I walked in the door. Slow everything. Is the wait worth it? It depends on how ravenous you are. I've never experienced a Mexican restaurant that was incapable of pumping out food minutes after you order. Maybe this tourist trap of a town lends itself to a more leisurely approach to cuisine. I ordered a humble grilled salad; they were pretty busy and I didnt want to spend a great deal of time here. I ended up being here over an hour- the salad took 45 minutes to arrive, plenty of time to almost drain my small (BIG) margarita. Salad was sublime. So incredibly good I knew immediately there was no way to recreate this dish at home. Staff is solititous without being obsequious: the perfect amount of 'being present' without 'hovering annoyingly'. I wasnt hungry enough to walk out in protest over a salad taking 45 minutes to make; but if it's been a while since your last meal, you might want to hit McDs on your way here; if they are busy, your food will not be coming anytime soon. We walked in to and we're not seated until 5 minutes after arriving. Dark quant place, which should've been our turning point but we decided to give it a try. The salsa was salty and had a mint soapy after taste. The bathroom had no light, so I had to use my cell phone flash. Pepsi was $3 plus no refill which we were not aware until the bill came. Been there twice, first time i had the chef fajitas, was ok except the secret cheese sauce ruined it, the second time i had the cazadores fajitas, with beef, chicken and shrimp, a mistake, the beef was grisel, the shrimp was small and tasted like fish tank food, the chicken was tough, the bell peppers were still raw and hard, all that said, the waitress was good, she told the owner we were not happy with the food, never came out and inquired. Glad we stumbled on this place. Food was hot and fresh when it came out. Got steak tacos. Some of the meat was a little on the chewy side but had very good flavor. My husband had the cazadores fajitas and loved them. The service was ok. Waiter did not come back to come on us after delivering drinks until the food came out. Did not bring around refill of chips and salsa until after our food arrived. We were not brought our bill, we had to get up and track down waiter. Walking in this place, I will admit upfront: I didn't expect much. It's Mexican food in Monticello. We were in town just briefly but decided to get dinner, and Cazadores seemed as good a place as any. When we arrived, someone (a patron?) came up to greet us and told us to go back to the bar--which is down a long hallway that's lined with a local's art and some random outdoor chairs. I should probably mention now that this is a somewhat eclectically decorated place (e.g., what was available at Meijer and Walmart the week the store opened, plus a weird horse thing on the wall of the bar). Once seated, the service was quite good. My fiance ordered a dish and was actually told he could get the same thing for cheaper if he ordered it differently--which, of course, we did. The food was, at best, mediocre. I ordered an enchilada plate while the fiance had two beef burritos. I couldn't tell much difference between the two, and I could only finish part of my meal because it was just... eh. Filling and mediocre don't really cut it for me. When we first sat down we were given chips and a carafe of salsa, plus two bowls, which were refilled throughout the meal when we asked. I really have no complaints about the service. I just wish the food could have been better! As far as price goes, two drinks and two meals ran us about $20. read more

I'm not sure what happen in the last couple months, maybe the chef left, but the food is terrible and the service is non-existent. I know the summer season is over, and most of the tourists are gone, but that's no excuse for cutting back on staff and quality. The waitress refilled our drinks once and didn't refill our tortilla chips. I always order the carne asada, one of the most expensive entrees - $14.50. I used to get a mound of perfectly seared strips that I could wrap in the flour tortilla with the rice, beans, lettuce & guacamole. The flour tortillas were served in a separate tortilla container, but now, they're just wrapped in tin foil. This weekend, I got a small, dry, burnt, rubbery, thin skirt steak that I had to cut apart myself. It wasn't seasoned, and I had to cut 20% of the steak out because it was cartilage and too burnt. The serving size used to be large enough to make another full dinner out of it, but this time, if there was anything left, I wouldn't even bother. My SO ordered his usual - the Americana, which is a hamburger and fries. He had to break a part of the burger off because it was too burnt. I won't be coming back again until someone writes a good review again. This was a complete waste of time and money which is really disappointing as I've been a regular here for the last three years, and there aren't a lot of "fancy" restaurants in town. read more

We were seated pretty quickly and were helped right away which was a big plus, since we were in a hurry. Chips and salsa was good. Our food cake quickly (again, a plus for us). My husband said his food (chorizo tacos) was good, mine not so much (grilled chicken quesadilla). The chicken was tough and the tortilla was pretty hard to cut through. I'm not one to complain about food so I wasn't going to say anything about that. However, I found an eyelash in my rice that I couldn't not mention. This was my first visit but definitely won't be my last. Cazadores is a 25 minute drive from my home but was worth it for National Margarita Day. We were greeted with welcoming, clean and friendly atmosphere. Our waitress was excellent, attentive friendly and helped us navigate the large, diverse menu. Complimentary chips and salsa was plentiful and great salsa! My husband had the seafood chimichanga and I had the taco dinner supreme. Since it was our first visit we wanted to share and taste different things. The result was more food than we could eat, along with food that was served fresh and tasted wonderful. The sweet was not too sweet, the spicy was not too spicy, and all of it was full of flavor. All this and very good margaritas yet we still didn't break the bank! Not a ton of options in our area, so we try all of them at some point. We decided to give Cazadores a try over the winter. Dining room was frigid. Most tables seem to be in direct line to be hit by the air flowing in from the front door. Took about 15 minutes for anyone to come over and see us. After that, our drink orders took another 15. Food took another 15. Food was mediocre. My wife got the meat she ordered (chicken) but in the wrong form (ex. chicken burritos versus chicken enchiladas). After notifying the waitress, she responded that, "It's basically the same thing anyways. I mean, I could go to the back, empty out your burrito into another shell, and cover it in enchilada sauce, though." Even if this was your plan, it didn't seem like a tactful response...tone was rather gruff too. Price seemed high for the service and food we received. Would not recommend this restaurant. read more

I've been in Cazadores a couple of times before. The food is generally overrated and somewhat overpriced for the quality. Due to limited choices in town and the fact that we get tired of going to other popular places in town over and over, we made it back. The hostess refused to seat our party of two at one of open four top tables in the front of the restaurant. We had to go to the bar to be seated right away. The bar was freezing cold. It was winter and apparently the bar has no heat. No bartender. The only waitress was also accommodating a large party in the event room in the back of the restaurant. I sure felt sorry for her. It took a very long time to speak to the waitress, longer to get drinks and well over an hour to get food. We had Fajitas. They were ok, but nothing would have been enjoyable because of the discomfort of being so cold. Monticello really needs a good Mexican Restaurant. They would likely clean up if one would open with good food and better service. I will not likely be back soon. There is much better quality food in town for the same or less. read more

Awesome Mexican place!! This place has new owners and staff and is AMAZING now!! The service from the time we stepped in, till we left, was perfect and very professional. The owner's wife came to our table to check on everything. The chef/owner even came out to make sure everything was cooked to order. The food was delicious and the portions were big. There was not one complaint from anyone in our group about the food. Chips and salsa were great too, with plenty of free refills. The prices are very reasonable...nothing outrageous at all. We had a group of 7 adults, with food and drinks, the tab was $120...and we all had entrees and drinks. Very welcoming staff, and very appreciative owners. Walked in, stood at the door forever, asked a waitress walking by if we were to seat ourselves and she said no, then showed us to our seats. Sat down and waited 10 minutes for anybody to even bring us a menu and to get drink orders. Then waited another 10 minutes for the drinks to arrive! How hard is it to bring out some beer and water? The kids wanted mini corndogs, on the menu, but the server said they were out. so they got the nuggets and fries. We then waited for 20-25 minutes for the food to arrive, which is okay if its good, we were in a group so we had plenty of entertainment. The food came out.... the sampler platter (jalapeno poppers still cold, cheese quesadilla limp and cheese not even melted, chicken FINGERS came out as chicken nuggets in the shape of dinosaurs) i got the same thing i get at nearly every mexican restaurant, the steak nachos fajita.... it didnt have ANY steak on it!!! There was something wrong with about everyone's food in our party. So I asked to speak to the manager, what a joke he was. Told him everything that we had been through and showed him the food..... he said sorry. asked if he could replace our meals with something else, we declined, and he walked away. When I first entered this restaurant, I was in a very laid-back and casual atmosphere, which I was pleased with. We were told to be seated anywhere we liked, as they had several booths and tables with chairs. Our waitress gave us salsa and chips to start out before ordering drinks and food. Seeing as though this was my first try at Cazadores, I ordered the "Mexican Flag Burrito", which included chicken, peppers, rice, and other typical burrito fillings. Not to mention three different sauces on top: traditional red salsa, white queso, and salsa verde. The portion was very large, and I was unable to finish the entire burrito. However, prices were very reasonable- I believe the burrito was around $13. The other people at my table were also given large portion sizes of their fajitas and tortillas. Once we were all done with our meal, we were given a receipt and told to pay at the front. Overall, a great experience at Cazadores, and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to someone looking for traditional Mexican food at an affordable price. read more
