Cash bar and billards, super friendly atmosphere and staff. Check out Taco Tuesday when Brin cooks her own taco meats - delicious!

When I saw the "tenderloin" (more like odds and ends steak trimmings) of my Gorgonzola Pasta ($19)…read moreI was vastly underwhelmed, but a well balanced Gorgonzola cream sauce and perfectly cooked penne pasta helped mostly even it out. But my wife's Seared Salmon ($21) was perfectly cooked--still translucent inside--and seemed a far better value of quality for cost than my pasta. My son went for the Red Chimichurri Flank Steak ($28) that was also delicious and prepared really well. But the $4 cup of add-on Lobster Bisque tasted more like assorted shellfish trimmings-- not inedible but not amazing either. The vanilla bean vinaigrette on the Summer Berry Salad ($14) was a pleasant surprise hit with my son's partner, but her $12 add-on of Blackened Salmon for it was unmasterfully overcooked for the thinner portion cut. Overall a poorer value for $26 compared with the Seared Salmon plate (a narrower, thicker portion). Elements is probably a better meal choice for the $30-40/person base range of their menu offerings-- and will obviously push higher with alcohol service. (The $15 Empress gin and Chambord Bartender's Roulette cocktail we ordered was pretty well prepared.) Perhaps even better a destination when the elements of weather suit sitting outside near the river overlook -- would help make up for zero table bread service offered; very odd for a "near fine dining" restaurant and menu. Otherwise on a rainy autumn evening, our tight-quartered, bouncy bistro booth was adequate but not great ambiance. 3.5-4 stars

We started with the ahi tuna appetizer. This was great, we all loved it, wish it was a little bigger. The salmon entree was everyone's favorite, perfectly cooked and the vegetables were flavorful and crisp, loved the sauce. The grilled corn poblano salad add salmon. The zest and crunch of the salad was yummy, again Salmon was delish! Bison burger - this was good, a big portion of meat, it was just a little dry, we needed to add fry sauce. Fries are good. Cookie skillet was delicious, just wish it was bigger and thicker. But definitely hit the spot.

The last time we were at the Powder Keg was around 4 PM on New Years' Eve, & Mobius Wave (@mobius.wave) was performing. Nasty riffs! Six whole strings of bass! Souuuulll! The staff is generally very nice & friendly. The ordering situation, however, is a bit confusing. There's a station at the bar to order at, unless you sit directly at the bar & then they'll take your order from where you sit. We sat at the bar & ordered with a nice bartender & then waited for our food. Waited & waited & waited & waited. We then noticed the kitchen staff watching the band, just like us, & not doing any cooking. It looked like they were all caught up on food orders. That's when we realized that our food had been "up" for quite some time - at a pick-up station near the kitchen. No one had told us. Our ramen was cold. Our wings were cold. So even if you sit at the bar & order with the bar staff, the onus is still on you, the patron, to pick up your food when it's ready. As a system, that's fine! It just needs to be made clear. Maybe with tickets, deli style? Maybe with a screen displaying which orders are ready? Maybe they could at least deliver to bar seats, which are basically connected to the kitchen? There must be a way to prevent warm food from getting cold. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen. It wasn't really ramen. It was an Americanized ramen/pho medley. Egg noodles, ultra-hard boiled egg, pork, bean sprouts, mint, lime, jalapeños, etc. It was honestly kinda weird & flavorless - which is such a shame, because the pork was cooked perfectly. It just didn't taste like anything! The broth was akin to lukewarm water. I was really looking forward to our meal at the Powder Keg after a long day of snowboarding. I yearned for soup. The itch was only kinda scratched. The music was great, though. Oh yeah - Budweiser in an aluminum can cost $7. HUHHHH?!
