The staff is welcoming, always a smile when I arrive. The facility appears to be sparkling clean with strict mask mandates for staff and clientele. Clean, convenient bathrooms on both levels, plenty of parking - even a bike rack, which I used today! Today was a busy day and it would've been nice if someone had told me that they were running late, but the new procedure chairs are VERY comfy so I did some deep breathing. Dr. McDonald was very positive, explained the relatively simple procedure I was having, and was understanding of my fear of the Novocain needle. The assistants are always very friendly and upbeat. The results of the bonding procedure are beautiful and the price seems quite reasonable. read more

I've been a patient for years, usually at the Hyde Square location. Excellent care, friendly efficient staff. Dr. McDonald is very gentle. It is hard to get appointments after COVID because they are so busy but they are very good about keeping a wait list and calling if they have a cancellation. I miss the former Periodontist and found the new one kind of rough. But otherwise, highly recommend. read more

After being a patient for approx. 10-15 years, and having had my children also receive dental care there, I had the most horrific experience this week. Trigger warning for any Neurodiverse/Autistic people DO NOT GO HERE EVER!!! I have sent hundreds of people here through the years and plan to let every and anyone know about the discriminatory and offensive treatment I rec'd by Owner Stuart MacDonald. As a Psychiatric Clinician and well-known/esteemed Autistic advocate/trainer, and public speaker, I was horrified at the way he talked to and treated me during my most recent visit. Any patient paying for ANY out-of-pocket costs, are legally entitled to a Good Faith Estimate under the Federal No Surprises Act. This is the law. I was paying for my visit out of pocket and was aware of the cleaning charge ahead of time. (https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers/understanding-costs-in-advance). After my cleaning, Mr. Macdonald came into the room, did not introduce himself to me and started talking about x rays. I explained I am paying out of pocket and needed to know the costs of these things. Stuart immediately sighed/sucked his teeth and told me "I am telling you the prices now" as he rambled off different prices for different types of x-rays. I stopped him and stated, "I am Autistic - I can't process all these numbers and amounts verbally and am asking for a written GFE, which I am entitled to by law, which is what I am asking for". He immediately became upset and told me I was "being combative". My voice was not raised, nor was I in any way upset, but kept repeating myself and my rights and I stated I "did not appreciate you giving me a hard time and I am demanding what I am legally supposed to be given and you are giving me the runaround". I explained I am also a provider and that the GFE has to legally be on everyone's website too, which it is NOT for B & G. Mr. Macdonald proceeded to call me "combative" again twice and again refused to give me what I asked for, so I told him I was leaving as I was not going to stand there and continue to be verbally abused and called "combative" which was just offensive and false. I went to the desk to discuss my options around complaints and was told I was being discharged from all care at the office and was handed a sheet of paper to sign, to release all my records. I was also told that I would have to google the ADA and how to file a complaint, as they do not have the posters publicly posted (which is also law). The whole experience was horrific and beyond unbelievable. Official complaints have been filed with the MCAD and Office of Civil Rights, who both advised this was highly illegal and clear discrimination. The irony about all of this is I make a living teaching people about Autism and how to enact ND-friendly services in health care and for-profit settings. Clearly B & G are missing the mark and I feel sorry for anyone who is not as strong a personal advocate as I am, and gets mistreated and verbally abused by the owner. A complaint will also be filed with the state Dental Board. read more

These staff members are wonderful, except......called this morning, having pain. Got to see a Dentist quickly, have an infection, need a root canal! UGH! BUT....2 weeks waiting time...really? no appointments available for 2 weeks! Oh the pain.... Need to take an antibiotic, and still must wait 2 weeks. NOt sure this is the best course of action. I called back just to make sure and was told if pain continues they will issue another antibiotic prescription to cover the 2 weeks. must say after 40 years of going here, this is the first issue I have ever had. read more

Very happy with Bankhead and Groipen, DDS. Been coming here for a number of years, cleanings, fillings and even a root canal.

The building is in Clery Square the block between police station and River St. You go up the stairs to your right and as soon as you enter there is a long counter w admin staff all very friendly. The hallway made of wood paneling but the rest of the practice is just like the one in West Roxbury very calming and relaxing. The staff and dentists tell you everything they are going to do step by step and they discuss your options if needed. They are ready to answer all of your questions. From check in to check out was awesome. Btw Marie is a riot love her. Dr. Groipen is one of the best. I've been to gentle dental and perfect dental in JP and nothing compares to the service you get with the team here. read more

I came in today for what turned into an emergency partial route canal! All the staff are very friendly and the office is very clean. Even from the phone call this morning; albeit I was still all the while nervous/in pain, I felt like coming here was the right decision based on location and positive reviews. The lady behind the desk was very nice as she explained the paperwork I needed to fill out and all the woman in that area are very friendly as well. The wait was not long and the dental assistant was also very nice and professional. Soon after I met with Dr. Groipen and he's such a nice guy! I was so nervous about this procedure but I felt like I was in really good hands. I have an appointment soon so I'll definitely go back. read more

I was a patient at B&G for quite a few years. If I had written this review back then, I probably would have given them four or five stars, but they lost my trust. They measured the depth of my gum pockets and told me that I needed a deep scaling, which didn't thrill me, but fine. Whatever. The administrator told me that she'd call my insurance company to get pre-approval for it. A week passed, and I didn't hear anything, so I called back and asked for the status. They had no idea what I was talking about, so I filled them in, and they said they'd get right on it. Another week goes by, and I call them again. Again, they had no clue what I was talking about. Again, I filled them in, and again they said they'd get right on it. That was the last time I heard from them. I didn't call back because I figured they had three chances to get it. I usually saw Dr. MacDonald, who, apart from his disturbing resemblance to Michael J. Fox is pretty good. He could be a little heavy handed at times and didn't always seem too bothered if I were in pain. One time he gave me a Novocaine shot that hit a nerve and made half my head light up. It took months to get all the feeling back in my tongue. But other than that, he's fine, and the hygienist I usually saw was fine, too. Basically, it was pretty much like every other dental practice I've ever been to. Unfortunately they lost me with the insurance thing. read more

Full disclosure here - I hate going to the dentist. This despite never needing anything truly major done and being apparently blessed with really good teeth. I won't say much about my own case - but please know that I feel like I got some sub-par work done and am now stuck with getting it all corrected. Further, these guys seem to be all about the a la carte charges, whether it's sealants or whatever. I'm not a big believer in most of that, but my biggest complaint is that, when they treat my kids, I expect to at least be consulted before they start piling on with this sort of thing. I won't be back. And I'm hiring an attorney. read more

Although I have mostly been to their West Roxbury office, I wanted to update this review for both locations. My dentist, Dr. Rick Bankhead, is attentive, professional, and a good conversationalist. The hygenists and other dentists are all great as well. My favorite thing is how reception always greets me by name. I feel like they've been waiting all day for me.. hurrah! I keep going back, so they must be doing something right. Be good and go to the dentist. Follow the rules, floss, and don't eat too many sweets. read more

I've been to both their Hyde Park and W. Roxbury locations a few times now, for regular cleanings as well as major work. I initially got reffered here by my parents, who had been seeing Dr. Bankhead for some time and had nothing but good things to say. Having braces for almost 5 years as a child along with regular cleanings, I'm no stranger to the dentist. That said, Dr. Bankhead is one of the better, if not best, doctor that I've had the pleasure of being worked on by. He is extremely professional, kind, and respectful of your wishes and needs. On my last visit, I had a filling and an extraction performed, both of which went smoothly and without any pain. He talked / coached me through the entire event, despite under laughing gas, and even went as far as to give me his private phone and email address should I have any problems or concerns (the next day was the beginning of a holiday weekend). The office is very well equipped, my seat even having a massager built into it (first for me). Parking lot across the street a ways with ample space, and the neon flamingo in the window made the building easy to find. He takes the time to talk with you, get to know, and make the entire experience as easy as possible, something that you don't see to much in this day and age of HMO's and rushed appointments. read more

Never thought the dentist could be so pleasant!! I had my wisdom teeth removed, two pull and two extracted, without a tear an awake. Will soon be getting some ortho care as well. read more

Had a problem over a long weekend with a new implant so I left a message with the answering service requesting a call back - none came. That's why this is 4 and not 5. Had to f/u but when I did, they got me in the next day and the Dentist was fabulous. Took care of the implant, did a little fixing to another crown and I was good to go in 30 minutes. His assistant was lovely and made sure I was presentable before facing the world. I am very happy with this dental group and am will continue to recommend them. Keep up the good work! read more

I chipped my front tooth this morning, I had it filled when I was 10 years old. I called and got a 10 o'clock appointment only an hour after it happened. By 1130 I look better than I did when I woke up. It was my front tooth and I really need it done and they did it I am so very lucky to have these guys as my dentist. read more

I hate the dentist. That said, you have to be above and beyond to get a 5 from me. Bankhead & Groipen have been fantastic as we transition from our old dentist practice to them. They have been patient and understanding. In my first cleaning, they identified a cavity that would require a cap. We setup the appointment immediately. I broke another tooth before the appointment for the cap and it turned out that I would require two caps!! We extended the appointment and took care of both in the same time frame. I spent like four hours there but it was not bad. Dr. McDonald and his assistant (can't remember the name right now) were amazing during this ordeal. I wholeheartedly recommend them for anything. I have a family of 6 (yes, four children) and we have all transitioned over to them. read more

I've always dreaded going to the dentist but not anymore! I feel very comfortable going to Bankhead & Groipen. All of the receptionists and hygienists are so friendly. They're not harsh about bad habits (aka not flossing enough), but will gently nudge you. I like that! I've been to other dentist offices before who have been rude about it. My boyfriend is doing Invisalign and Dr. Martin has been so informative and helpful throughout the process. They have late appointments so I don't have to leave work early. They also have Saturday appointments but those book out far in advance. I can't say enough good things about this place! read more

This is a great Dental office. As other people have noted, everything is top of the line. I had two wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Bankhead and the man is a pro. It was over in like a minute and there was no pain at all. I didn't even know he had pulled the teeth out! I thought he was just poking around back there and then he said "Okay, you're all set". It was not at all like the horror stories I had heard from other people, but maybe that's just the difference in having a good dentist or not. I started seeing them about a year ago for regular cleanings because they were convenient. I loved everyone in the office and didn't actually mind going. I have massive dental phobias from dentists ignoring my need for extra Novocaine - and me inevitably freaking out. This doesn't happen to me here. I just had my first root canal and it was as pleasant as that kind of thing can be. He listened, gave me the right Novocaine, talked to me. Over before I knew it. When it comes to going to the dentist. I am the biggest baby. I've had such bad experiences in the past with every dentist that I've visited. Which makes me ashamed to admit that I don't go as often as I should. Well, my tooth broke while eating a cracker at work (so I thought) in the a.m. Come to find out it was an old filling that had fallen out. So, I searched for a dentist in Hyde Park, MA area via internet, found this site and awesome reviews. I called, got an appointment for that same day after work. From the time I walked into the office until the time I walked out I received absolute top notch service. As for the dental work, didn't feel a thing. I had two fillings done by Dr. Bankhead that went as smooth as I could possibly believe. Dr. Bankhead explained every single detail to me as he was working. Showed me a plan when I was finished. Top notch equipment, massage chairs, great music and service. The Hygenist Yves was excellent. Very polite, considerate and very welcoming. I've never been so comfortable during Xrays my entire life.
