I was a patient here for two years. At first, everything seemed great--friendly staff, convenient location--but the actual care left a lot to be desired. From my very first visit, I was surprised at how little time the dentist spent with me. That only got worse over time. One filling turned into the most painful, drawn-out dental procedure I've ever had--and it wasn't even a complex one. I also raised concerns about teeth grinding and shifting, and was completely dismissed without any real discussion. I left that appointment feeling brushed off and unheard. Scheduling was another major issue. They couldn't accommodate a standard six-month cleaning schedule, booked me eight months out, and when I asked to be put on a cancellation list, they never followed up. Then they canceled on me two days before my appointment. At that point, I gave up. It's clear there are some kind and well-meaning people on staff, but my experience with the dentist and overall care was disappointing and, frankly, frustrating. I received a snide attitude I received the other day asking about the best time to come that might be better for parking than others. I have been coming here for over ten years, back when the office was in JP center above City Feed. I had an appointment last week and while my cleaning was great and the hygienist was lovely, the dentist spent no more than a minute with me and I was given an appointment for my next cleaning nine months later. I emailed the office to ask why I could not get an appointment the standards six months later and have received no response. I will be looking for an office that will be able to accommodate visits every six months because as the dentist said, "there are flags all over your teeth" and I need to keep these guys in good shape. read more

This review is long overdue. I came to Pure Dental after my former dentist no longer accepted my insurance in-network. For the last 3 years, I have been impressed by the quality of care I have received there. They have a dentist check your teeth at every cleaning, not just once a year. Every dentist has been knowledgeable, kind, caring and professional. Dr. Nelson was even available via text late one night and made sure that I wasn't in pain when a temporary crown accidentally popped off. Graciela, the hygienist does an excellent cleaning. This place is amazing! I couldn't rate it any higher. Starting from the second you walk in there is someone to greet you at the door to check your temperature, hand sanitizer, and ppe is in full effect obviously (it is a dental office). The staff is great and walks you through the full process of everything. I called during Covid with and they made space to squeeze me right in. Front desk staff were helpful. Really happy with the care I received from Dr. Fine. She was very professional. She was cautious with her recommendations, and patient with all my questions. When it looked like I might need a root canal, she was realistic in her assessment, saying she wouldn't know until they started working on the tooth. Based on my experience, I lost confidence during my first visit and will not go back. I went for my first visit -- to get my teeth cleaned. I had to request for the dentist's full name because they don't disclose that if you don't ask and there seems to be a number of dentists working here. Instead of a typical focused dental hygienist cleaning my teeth, it was the assigned dentist who did it -- I thought, fine, either interestingly hands on or they are short staffed. No big deal. But the dentist did a poor job and kept jabbing at the section I had mentioned that I am experiencing pain there. The dentist's overall demeanor made me lose confidence. She seemed agitated/distracted and surprised when I winced from pain when she poked on the section of my teeth (twice) that I pointed was hurting--and she kept saying in an agitated tone, "Are you okay?" I kept responding and pointing, "That's the part I told you that hurts." Then she jabbed it again as she continued to clean. After the cleaning, X-rays, and 3D scans, she told me I have to have all my fillings replaced. She asked me what I thought and what my previous dentists told me. I told her it's the first time I'm hearing that I have to replace everything so this is a surprise. In my prior regular visits with my dentists, none of them told me there is anything wrong with my previous fillings, except a couple of old fillings done when I was younger need to be monitored. I told her about the recent work done to the 2-3 teeth that are of concern to me because there is a part that is painful and I'd like to get her assessment on that. Again, her demeanor was agitated and circuitous and presented information in quite a disorganized way -- the point being she wants to replace all the fillings after seeing me for the first time. I gave her the benefit of the doubt -- I said I am open to that possibility if that's what she found but I suggested as a first step we focus on where there is pain first -- and she agreed to that and said she would continue to talk to me about a treatment plan. When I asked about insurance coverage, she said the office will see what the insurance would say. In the meantime, I am to make an appointment for the next few weeks for a procedure or two focusing on that section that I pointed out that is more acute vs saying yes to replacing all fillings as she summarily assessed that I needed as a next step. She ushered me to the front desk to set up an appointment date. No one called me back re the insurance coverage -- the front desk said they would let me know; someone texted to remind me about the appointment. None about the insurance, etc. Apart from the office process, really, I had already lost confidence during the cleaning process and interaction with the distracted/agitated dentist. I don't feel confidence and trust in having this dentist and this place do anything more to my teeth, let alone replace all the fillings after one visit. I hope they improve eventually and train staff better. Apart from this, the positives are-- the dental assistant was effective, methodical, and attentive; the offices look new and modern; and 'window display' is impressive. In the meantime, I found a new dentist and will hopefully have a better and sensible experience. read more

The dentist is fine, but the front desk is SO RUDE. I just had the absolute worst interaction I've ever had with a medical provider over the phone - Yvanna from Pure Dental was extremely passive aggressive and rude to the point where she was mocking my questions and laughing at me. I'm back with an update post-COVID and the move the new building. How lovely to be in this beautiful new space! Same wonderful staff, but better tech and clean, bright rooms. The waiting room is charming. Their COVID protocol was really solid and made me feel safe. There was a text survey in advance of the appointment (I had to cancel an appointment in August because of symptoms and they were really understanding), text about symptoms on appointment day, temp check and symptom check in the office, hygienist and dentist in full PPE, and an air purifier in the room. The service was good, no waiting time, BUT: they became out-of-network for me and I never received any communication about that. They say they sent me a letter, well, I never received it. I had a terrible experience with a filling at another dentist's office, and two weeks later and one follow-up later still could not sleep through the night because of the pain. A friend recommended Dr. Nelson very highly, and even though he was out of my insurance network and not close to where I live or work, I was in so much pain that I made an appointment. It was worth every penny. I have never had dentist who was so thorough in both his examination and explanation. I felt like I could trust his judgment immediately. Three weeks later, I called the office with a follow-up question from my appointment. I went to Pure Dental as a very mistreated and dissatisfied customer of Gentle Dental, and found Dr. Nelson and Carla to be incredibly kind and thoughtful. They explained everything they were doing, were not condescending in the slightest (unlike the staff at Gentle Dental). I had been experiencing excruciating pain from a recent wisdom tooth extraction at Gentle Dental, and even on the phone Carla was very helpful. She explained to me that the first thing they would do was irrigate the area, a simple solution that Gentle Dental didn't even offer when I went in with the same pain. I went in without an appointment, and got seen within 15 minutes. While irrigating my wound, Dr. Nelson kindly explained everything he was doing, and checked in regularly to make sure I was comfortable. I was so pleased with my experience, that I will definitely be coming back for cleanings and any other work I need done. So sad I had to go through Gentle Dental to find this place, but grateful I now have a dental office I can trust! read more

I suspect that if I had just come in for only a teeth cleaning I would have had a better experience. The dentist and his staff were really lovely, but I was sent home with an estimate for eight cavities. A friend suggested I get a second opinion before shelling out over $800 and subjecting my teeth to potentially unnecessary dental work, so I went to another dentist in the area, who, without me mentioning my previous experience, told me I have NO cavities. Went in yesterday for a cleaning with Graciela and my teeth feel brand new! I started ortho treatment a few months ago and have been having extreme sensitivity. I just had a filling done today by Dr. Lai, and I love her! I was in and out in 40 minutes! I'm sure had my mouth not been stubborn and in need of extra novocaine, I would have been out sooner. I couldn't be happier with the precise work. Dr. Lai answered my questions on filling materials, concerns, etc. and all of the staff has a working knowledge of what goes on in the office. I have had some very bad experiences with previous dentists. As a result, my anxiety is very high. However, Dr. Nelson is very steady and gentle. He has the softest touch and the best bedside manner. I had high hopes for this place due to the Yelp reviews. However, this was a pretty bad experience. The Dentist performed a cleaning instead of the hygienist, and he pulled out a filling by accident. Although I know these things do happen, it was an awful experience. Luckily they didn't charge me for it, although they did bill my insurance to replace it - which takes away from the total amount I have per year on dental. The Dentist himself was pretty nice, but I'm sorry - he smelled really bad. I held my breath as much as I could during the whole procedure. If a professional is going to be working so physically closely with others, it's necessary to take regular showers. Overall, I don't recommend this place. read more

Great place to get your dental care. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. My visits here have been great. The office is small but very clean and up to date. She was personable, thorough, and constructively honest about how I could improve my own personal care routine. I've had a share of terrifying experiences at a dentist office in the past that made me a very anxious patient. Dr. Nelsson with his gentle touch was able to put me at ease and my experience at Pure Dental was great. I've been having a discomfort and couldn't pin point which tooth it was coming from. It took Dr. Nelsson nearly a minute to figure out the problem. I had a broken filling that he took a quick photo of and showed it to me on a computer screen. I'm a new patient but my two visits were excellent. One was a cleaning, which was the first in several years, and I didn't get scolded. The second was a filling. Both the hygienist and Dr Nelson were super professional, thorough and efficient. They were very friendly, too, which is nice because I admit to getting sweaty palms whenever I go to a dentist. The building has seen better days, sure, but it looks as though there are some major overhauls going on inside the practice and I was surprised to see so much new equipement (like digital xrays and everything is computerized). OK, No one likes the dentist office. That's where some of these other less flattering reviews probably stem from. I was dealing with an irritating wisdom tooth for months then one weekend... BAM!! Absolute Pain. I NEEDED to see a dentist immediately on a Monday after a weekend unable to eat. My dentist with whom I have been dissatisfied with for year was closed so I called up Pure Dental. Not only was the staff super nice, they were able to fit me in. Dr. Nelsons Staff is very personable, just as he is. Not only were they able to fit me in, it might have been the best dental experience I have had in years. I had never had a wisdom tooth pulled so they calmed me down regarding that. Then, I was numb up, tooth extracted and out of there with a brand new smile. I was able to literally play in a softball game that night. Great experience, great people. I have to say, I was pleased to find this friendly neighborhood dental practice in JP. Full disclosure: I have only visited this dentist once, and the visit was for a routine cleaning. Anyway, arranging an appointment was very easy via their website. The office itself, as some have already pointed out, is not luxurious, but I certainly wouldn't complain. It's in an older building (you walk up one flight to a second floor office above the City Feed). The dental hygienist, Ana, is super friendly and thorough.
