If you have a yearning to revisit the cafeteria food you were served in 6th grade, this is your spot! Food served on plastic trays, utensils wrapped in a napkin, catchup in a tiny plastic container, and a senior citizen group that starts at age 75, are just some of the highlights. For $7.50 including drink you're treated to one meat, two vegetables and rolls. There's not a lot of options, so dig into pork chops (bring a chain saw to cut), fried chicken steak, beef stew (not actually stew) and the famous chicken salad. All of the elderly in Goldsboro eat here, and that's not the problem whatsoever. The food seems pre-fab, salty (green beans) and lacks the country style flavor you'd expect in an establishment thick with southern accents and friendly faces. It's cash only, somewhat strange in 2022. The place does a strong business and meets the needs of its local clientele. Consistently good food as well as fantastic service every time. For lunch You get a meat, 2 veggies, bread and tea for $6.50. You can not beat that. Different specials everyday. Cash only. They do have an ATM in the lobby. Huge parking lot as they are always busy. read more

Good food, and REALLY great prices. The only downside to B & G is the fact that you can never get a table quickly. If you get there for lunch, be prepared to wait (sometimes around 20 minutes or so) for a table. It's not that the establishment is small, it is just really popular in downtown Goldsboro. I recommend going on Thursday and giving the BBQ chicken a try. It is - hands down - the best I've ever had. Usually I just call my order in and go back to the office to eat. They'll have your order ready in 10 minutes or so. They have great short order items too. The burgers are good, and I love their fries. Oh yeah.....cash only! read more

B&G is the perfect place for the local Baptists and Geriatrics (B&G), like myself, to find great daily specials of homestyle country cooking at a great price! I highly recommend chicken pastry day. If you get bbq chicken get a side of extra gravy and hush puppies. read more

Previous meals were definitely better than the last one last Thursday. My wife and I got country style steak which was way over cooked. They were extremely busy around noon time but we got seated quick enough and everything except for the over cooked meat was alright. I sure hope the next meal there is better or it will probably be the last. If you are under retirement age more than likely you will be looking for more than what this place can offer. Food is all under 5 dollars and served on small paper plates. The plates are so small that when I received my BLT the lettuce touched the table as it hung over the plate. Who is B and G anyway - I'd like to think the Bee Gees while Stayin' Alive colorfully plays in my head, but we all dance to a different tune... B&G has "good bones", real estate speak for solidly built with lots of neat architectural details (lots of brick archways) and a coherent design. They are open often, M-F 730 - 230 so go for a working lunch. Service was fast and friendly, we were out of there in less than 30 minutes and it didn't feel like a fast food restaurant, more like an upscale cafeteria. The great thing about B and G is they are cheap, and I mean cheap. My cheeseburger (it has chili on it too) was $1.40. A grilled chicken sandwich, $2.40, a hot dog $1.25 - add a little cheese, maybe $1.40.The most expensive thing on the menu was $6.80 and it was crab and something. There is also a lunch special - today's was meat loaf and chicken pastry and $6.75. B and G seems to be a local establishment, as in the true definition of established: "thriving: started or set up long enough ago and sufficiently successful to suggest likely continuation or permanence" - it was packed Tuesday at 1145. Granted the average age was 55+ ish, but seniors know a cheap, good deal when they find it. read more

If you love eating prison food, this is the place for you! The plates are plastic and compartmentalized like you'd find in your 3rd grade cafeteria. The veggies are either frozen or canned and the meat tasted as if a rat was caught in the back and pounded into looking like chicken breast. The service was decent but could improve considering they will always receive their tips in cash...btw this place doesn't take credit. The only reason this place gets at least 1 star is because the price was cheaper than dirt. read more

The problem is: Folks go in around 7:30 am or earlier to eat breakfast. They stay until 10:30 am or later and Socialize. Most of the time there will be several tables with one individual at each table and each of the tables are conversing with each other. People start coming in for lunch and there are NO tables. I've said something about camping out at another's expense. But what can be done? People, some of them, just plain don't care. I've been as early as 10:00 am to get a parking place. Sit in the car, patiently waiting. Closer to 11:00 am, go in and....you guessed it, wait for the text messaging to be completed. If the "mood isn't right" nobody moves. If you go....you wait. Don't know how to resolve the problem. I know it drives the wait staff crazy. They can't say anything. Might offend! read more

There's a charm to this place for many, but unfortunately not for me. It's in a great location and seems to get plenty of business, however as my husband said, "I feel like I just finished a meal from the 1960s." Prices are low, but you get what you pay for. I got the homemade chicken salad, which tasted like more relish and mayo than chicken. The cream potatoes are filler at best, and the garden peas were disappointingly gross...tasted like they were from a can from the 1960s. Friends got the country fired steak, which tasted like pure salt. They also did not have the barbecue or the chicken available. I loved the owners mama and daddy who have now passed on. This restaurant has always been A+. I have eaten here since they were located in Mar Mac. The owner, his son and all the employees are top notch. i always carry a great breakfast out at a great price. My husband and I grab lunch here every chance we get. I have known their waitress kim for quiet awhile, shes A+ as well as their cashier and all their staff. The only problem I have is they are ALL Duke fans and I am a die hard Tarheel fan; lol. I have been going into B an G for years now, and the food is decent, the wait staff are for the most part polite and pleasant. The few things I do have a problem first being the long wait to get a table, but I do understand they are busy. Second is the no credit option. Third, the place is usually very crowded with little room to stand and wait, or walk for that matter. Fourth and the biggest problem I have with B and G Grill is the way I see the wait staff being treated. I have noticed on several occasions the waitresses being belittled and yelled at. It usually seems to be by one lady in particular, but sometimes by the owner I believe. I have witnessed waitresses crying after being treated with such disrespect even in front of customers!! No way to treat staff, or a human being for that matter. Only reason there aren't more stars. read more

B & G grill I would consider to be southern cooking. They have weekly specials but also give you the option to order menu style. They have a variety of menu items to pick from. Burgers if you're feeling basic or fish if you're feeling fancy I mean it just depends on what you have a taste for. The food is good though. Always hot and it gets to you relatively fast considering the high customer volume. My only complaint is because this place is so popular among many generations (old and young) the seating is VERY limited at times. I mean UNLESS you call your order in for lunch you'll more than likely have to wait a very long time for a seat during lunch hours. This place is only open until 2pm so you could only imagine the high customer volume. I don't understand why they don't expand but that's a whole different topic.
