Bruce Harris, the owner of B & H Asphalt and Paving repaved our driveway in Conifer, Colorado; that was in terrible shape. We had a drainage problem we had inherited when we bought the home 14 years ago. Bruce figured out the perfect solution, explained it to us, and gave us a very fair quote. His quote may have been beaten by another, but we knew that his was fair and someone else, in order to beat his quote, would fudge somewhere else; either in the Sealer or Compaction. Therefore; we accepted his quote and scheduled the work to be done. Bruce's crew, Lead by Charlie, showed up on time, and every crew member was very courteous and respectful of our property. Best crew supervision I have seen in a long time. Every member knew their job and wasted no time in getting the work perfect. Was disappointed on day one with the result. Corners so narrow my truck has to go in the grass. Backing out of the garage, it's so short you go in the grass. The absolute minimum effort. Then it got worse. Within a few months, spots started sinking in and cracking. We just got our one year warranty repair. Guy with a torch came and cooked a few cracks. It's really a shame companies can get away with this. I'll post the "repair" pictures on Google. You won't believe them... but hopefully this will save someone from going with this outfit. read more

I am writing this review to praise them on their follow up service...we had a small bubble pop up (about the size of a dinner plate.) I contacted him on Monday and his crew was out fixing it by noon on Tuesday. My beautiful driveway is perfect again. Not only did they come in 1 day to fix it (no charge) they even swept the pine needles off my entire driveway!!! I had my driveway done by them on floyd hill. After several year's three quarters of the driveway is cracking. I kept up with the seal coating, it did not help. I feel the same way, they did not make the asphalt thick enough. I even have weed's coming through. The crew was more than great. It's going to cost me a fortune, to have another company come in, and try to save it. Thank you Bruce for taking advantage of a widow and a senior. For those of you that are thinking about paving your driveway, a word of caution based on our experience with them. Their postcard used to say 3'' of asphalt, however, that means prior to rolling. Checked with several other paving companies & the consensus was that 3'' compresses 1/2" at most, e.g. after rolling, the thickness should be 2 1/2". Checking 3 different driveways done by B&H, the thickness varied between 1 1/2" - 2". As long as the subsurface is really solid, there may not be a problem. They did our driveway three years ago and some spots started sinking almost immediately where the cars are parked and the side edges continue breaking off badly. The old adage of 'you get what you pay for' (if you're lucky) applies to B&H. read more

After learning about B&H via word of mouth from two persons, I called B&H (Bruce) and he provided a quote. They showed up as agreed and did 4 patches as well as pave two small areas. After less than a season one of the patched areas as well as a paved area (walkway) began to experience some issues. B&H provides a 12 month warranty. Specifically, the patch was crumbling and the walkway was so thin that weeds were growing through it. I called Bruce upon his return to CO from LA and he came over to inspect (they go to LA for the cold months in CO). Based on weeds growing through the paved walkway...it was obviously too thin. Additionally I could see it was only a 1/2" thick. I was concerned that I hadn't gotten what I paid for (2" or 1-1/2"). I asked Bruce if it would be possible to pave it to what was paid for. Bruce became very nasty / unprofessional and said that he would only repair what was actually broken. Even after trying to reason with him on this he was still a total jerk. I had concerns that the pavement would continue to degrade and he reiterated that he would only fix what was actually broken. B&H came back and patched the spots and sure enough...other areas in the walk have began to break through after less than 2 years. The patch they 'fixed' has also broken down more (due to poor preparation) and now one of the other patched areas is beginning to come apart. Besides the shody practice of not paving or preparing to what was paid for, it would also appear the mix B&H used had been sitting around for a while prior to use. Specifically, many of the paved areas have pebbles coming out of the pavement indicating the bitumen was either poor quality or cold when it was laid down. Although, if you yell at all your customers you might not. After being taken by a shade tree asphalt company a few years back I was somewhat skeptical when seeking another company to resurface 290 ft (30,000 sq ft) driveway. After reviewing various reviews in Yelp and BBB I decided to present the task to B&H Asphalt Paving out of Golden, CO. We met with Bruce Harris (owner) and spent an hour or so assessing the poor paving project from the shade tree company and what his proposal would be to correct it. We had areas where the underlying dirt/gravel was exposed and chunks of asphalt was missing in various locations. The average depth of asphalt was 1" to 1-1/2" (unsat). Pleased with Mr. Harris' scope of work proposal and price, we agreed to take the chance. The day of scheduled work the crew was scheduled to report between the period 10:00 and 12:00. I walked out to the garage at 9:30 and the B&H six-man crew was on our street unloading their equipment. I don't want to go into all the details of the scope of work but the end result was breath taking. The supervisor Charles Ellisor was continuously pacing up and down the driveway making sure the application was being accomplished according to his expectations. The 4" crowning (curbing) running along each side of the driveway was formed uniformly and looks spectacular. The scope of work promise by Mr. Harris was met and quite frankly exceeded my expectations. And it feels good to have a one year worry-free warranty to back up their work. After the first year, there was damage over the entire surface. The asphalt was not installed correctly. It was extremely porous, which was pointed out initially. All of the seams were very noticeable, and very unsightly. After the first rainfall, we noticed that the drive was not graded properly, and water pooled in front of the garage and the stairs to the front door. The response was that if we had it sealed the next year, it would be OK, and that driving on it would smooth it out. The next spring, they came out and laid asphalt on top of the low spots, using no equipment other than a shovel and a hand torch, and stomped on it with a metal shoe to level it, then sprayed it with sealer, for an additional charge. The water continued to pool, and by the end of the next winter, all of the "patch material" had crumbled away. The next spring, very large cracks began to appear all around the edges, and big chunks have broken off all around the edges. Then cracks began to appear in the center areas and at all of the seams. There are now many low spots where the surface has washed away, and cracks throughout the entire surface. As many of the cracks are now 1" wide or more, it is also evident that some of the depth of the material is not the quoted depth of 3". The original low spots continue to deteriorate due to the standing water. Once the driveway was out of warranty, we thought we could live with it, though grudgingly. Now, as we watch the driveway totally self destruct, we realize we should have demanded that they repair this in the warranty time frame. My initial complaints with Bruce, which were made immediately when the job was first completed, and the following year when the "repair" was made, resulted in a lot of double talk, which made me feel as though I was wasting my time. It is very apparent that his work is performed to a standard barely good enough to last for the warranty period, and his fast talking will help keep the customer at bay until the warranty expires. Poor preparation and grading, unsightly seams, poor surfacing, and perhaps poorly trained installers, have left us with an unsightly, crumbling, water pooling mess in front of our home. Yes, the one year warranty is noted on the invoice, but poor workmanship should be covered any time it causes a problem. I paid for a quality product, and I did not receive it. An upstanding business owner should realize that if his company made a mistake they should take care of it. He is not an upstanding business owner, and now offers to repair this mess for a charge. Not a chance, I wouldn't allow them to perform any type of work on my property. read more

I had B&H overlay my driveway 3 years ago. I was initially satisfied with the job they did despite a few immediate drainage issues, which they fixed, but my driveway surface then began to deteriorate. Even after I paid them to seal it, very small pebbles come loose from the surface and accumulate in low areas - enough that I have to use a shovel and can fill a 5-gallon bucket several times each year. The once-smooth surface is now rough all over. I don't know if they used substandard asphalt or didn't use enough weight when they rolled it or it's something else, but I am not happy with how my driveway looks or the constant sweeping I have to do so the pebbles aren't tracked into my garage. Based on my experience with them so far, I would not use them again. read more

I had Bruce come over to estimate either a seal coating or a full re-surfacing of my asphalt driveway in Evergreen. It is almost 15 years old and we have never done any maintenance on it. After looking at the driveway and discussing the options, Bruce recommended that I not do anything to it at this time. He felt that it did not need to be re-surfaced yet, and that sealing at this point would not work very well given the current condition. He will certainly have my business in 5-10 years when a full re-surfacing is needed. I would give this company no stars. They were supposed to come out to fix a bad driveway (that they did), called and left a message that they were coming out to fix it and didn't show up. 6 weeks later I called and the owner called me back and was unbelievably rude and disrespectful to me. At one point he asked me to stop talking and maybe my husband would put up with that but he wouldn't. I simply asked him to communicate to me as to when they would come to fix it and he went in and on about the weather - it was too wet. That's fine but it only started raining about 2 weeks ago and why hadn't they come out the 4 weeks before that? He told me they were behind on a lot of jobs. I would seriously avoid this company if possible. They send out postcards looking for work clear out in Elbert. Why are they looking for work 65 miles from where they are based? read more
