We just had Diehl Concrete replace our driveway. We used Ryan based upon a recommendation from a friend and neighbor in our neighborhood in Franktown. We saw Ryan's work at the home of our neighbor and friend. This friend works in the building industry and has very high standards. He was impressed with Ryan's work too. We didn't collect other bids. We usually do our research, pick a contractor that has the best standards and reputation and pay the going rate. Our driveway is very big. The area we replaced is about the size of a basketball court. It was raining nearly every day for over a week, but the crew worked hard to get the old driveway up and hauled it all away. They used a three man crew most of the time but on the pour day there were a dozen skilled concrete finishers all working together like a team. I used to be a Union laborer in AZ when I was young. I helped prepare and pour concrete. I can say from my experience that Ryan and his team are professionals. They are also highly skilled. They even sealed the concrete the day after the pour. That's something I don't recall seeing when I worked my job. The finishing work and everything went smoothly. I'm more than pleased with the way it turned out. I read the variety of great reviews so I called Ryan Diehl to get a quote for our project. I read one bad review that I ignored because of the other great ones. My experience was similar to the bad review. I told Ryan that we just built a brand new house with a patio and we were looking to extend the patio. The first words out of his mouth were "we don't do that kind of work. It's probably going to fall apart very soon so I wouldn't want my work attached to it." Surprised, I asked more questions. He kept going: "contractors don't use rebar, compacted road base, or anything. They don't do a good job. So if you want me to tear out the whole thing and re-do it, I'd be happy to, but if not I'm not interested." Huh? You have no idea what they did. Also, you think the best idea when a customer calls you is to insult his brand new house without even seeing it? I realized when we spoke later that he speaks to a lot of people who buy new homes built by spec contractors and has a lot of experience with previously done poor work. I informed him that the sub who put in our patio DID use rebar and DID use compacted road base, and did a very professional job. He said "wait, it's a custom house?" When I confirmed, he asked again, and I confirmed again. I felt like Ryan didn't give me the courtesy of a kind and thoughtful conversation. He should have just said "I'm sorry but I don't do that kind of work. Here is a referral for someone who does" and leave it at that. Ryan called me after I posted the first version of this review to chat it through. He expressed that he thought my first review included lies, and we talked it through. He was thoughtful about it and seemed to have my best interests at heart. He also confirmed that he simply does not do work where he adds on to another company's work because: - He is worried about the quality of previously done work - He wants to make sure the concrete matches, and wants it to look perfect. He also made me realize that we had a misunderstanding, so I corrected the story above. I'm sure Ryan does good work given the other reviews, but I can't speak to that. read more

I don't know much about concrete, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out when someone goes above and beyond. Diehl was very patient with the process, and rather than rushing in like some other contractors were offering to, Diehl carefully explained how the weather could affect the outcome, and was set on waiting for the right window. The slab turned out perfect as a result, which I had poured for a shed. Even the shed installer commented on how impressed he was by the slab, saying it was perfectly level, and the dimensions were spot on. To add a cherry on top, Diehl came in with the lowest bid, with others price gouging 2-3x higher. Do yourself a favor- and go with quality work for a fair price! read more

My driveway was 'at the end of it's life', as Ryan put it. I got quotes from two other companies Only Ryan included new road base sub-grade and rebar in his quote. Price per square foot was comparable to the other quotes. He visited to measure and show pics of his previous work. I ended up having to schedule later in the fall; then reschedule due to road work in my neighborhood. Ryan's crew were professional, efficient, friendly, and careful around existing landscaping. I went to walk the dog on pour day. When I got back Ryan pointed to a bag of chemical de-icer in his truck he confiscated from my garage, explaining all of those products (including those claiming to be "safe" for concrete) are bad news. Ryan and another fellow stayed behind after the pour to do the finish. Unfortunately, the neighbor dog got loose and ran through their work right as they were packing up. They stayed and repaired the damage with no charge to me. All in all, I got the sense that the team took pride in their work and Ryan wants to provide lasting value. read more

A side note to my previous review. Ryan Diehl contacted us recently to follow up on the work he had done for us. He asked if we were happy with the work and wanted to make sure we were satisfied. I assured him we were very satisfied and very pleased with the results. When I step out my front or back door and look and my porch or patio it looks like red sandstone from Southwestern Colorado, my stairs steps are wider and safer. Ryan is professional, punctual, efficient, understanding, knowledable about his craft, patient, friendly, and just an all around good person. Out of all the quotes we received, he was the ONLY person who didn't speak badly about his competitors. We hired him for this reason but quickly learned he takes a great deal of pride in his work. He does the quote, and the work, alongside a crew. This was beneficial when adjustments had to be made during the prep work. We didn't have to micromanage to make sure everything went smoothly. Ryan did all of that for us. Such a relief with a big project! He put in a very large patio and sidewalk connecting our driveway to the backyard. We wanted a smaller patio because we could not afford the entire footage we originally wanted. Ryan made price adjustments so that the quality and final product wouldn't suffer. He said that it would not have looked right if we stopped the patio where we could afford it. We ended up making the patio bigger (actually the footage we wanted) in order to make the project polished. He was also extremely patient as we made him wait for HOA approval. The project only took 3 and half days. I know he is getting booked up for this year's season, but if you can wait for him or get on the list, you are doing yourself a huge favor. We decided to add a very large stamped concrete patio to our back yard this summer. I bid the job to 10 companies. Ryan was not the cheapest, but was also far from the most expensive. When I recieved the quotes I noticed Ryan places his rebar closer together than his competitors. I also noticed he uses a heavier concrete mix which costs his company more money. Ryan was the only contractor who placed a follow up call to me to see if I had questions; which I did. The project turned out perfect. We couldn't be happier. If i need more concrete work done in the future I will be calling Ryan to do it. read more

We recently contacted Diehl Concrete requesting a quote for pouring a back patio and Ryan responded right away, worked around our schedule, and was at our house within a couple of days to scope the project. He was very professional and was able to provide an estimate on the spot. Most importantly, his expertise was invaluable. We already have a concrete patio, and we just wanted to extend it and then stain the whole back deck a color (previously existing and the new extension). The first contractor we brought out quoted that exact work scope and we didn't think twice. Ryan immediately saved us by informing us that the stain would not match between the two different pieces of patio (good to know!), but he could pour the new deck, and add a bit on the existing patio to make it all one, new pour. He also recommended we do a colored concrete (for the same price), because it's a much better product and lasts longer than a stain would. He had pictures ready to show us from previous jobs, and described many other things he would do to make it look great, and last. All for around the same budget as the other contractor quoted. We're so thankful that we called Ryan, because now we know how upset we would have been had we hired a different contractor! I'll note that Diehl Concrete hasn't completed the job yet, but we will hire Ryan when we're ready to begin. read more

When I started looking into having my driveway redone, I looked into 7 or 8 different concrete contractors. Some based on referrals and other work in the neighborhood. I saw Diehl Concrete's website and decided to give him a call. I thought they may be out of my price range, but decided to call. I will say that two other stamped concrete contractors listed on the stamped concrete referral site didn't even return my phone call. I decided on Ryan Diehl and Diehl Concrete for several reasons. He was the only one who looked at the project and offered advice, asked me questions about how I want it to look, gave suggestions, offered pictures of his portfolio and directed me to properties to look at that he had done. Ryan had very clear communication on what was being done, when and how via email, phone and text. He was also the only contractor who described specifically and accurately what they were going to do, when and how. It made the process of replacing 1800sf of driveway much easier. His pricing was very competitive and much better than other companies who I know just sub the work out. Its also awesome that Ryan and his guys do the work themselves. When it came time to start the job, they worked quickly and efficiently removing the old concrete and rebar. After working in and around new home construction years ago, I was pretty familiar with how many contractors conducted themselves on the job. The guys at Diehl Concrete were nothing but respectful, professional and friendly. Honestly, I was not expecting that level of service from a concrete contractor. The guys cleaned everything up every day as best as possible for a job in process. Ryan called me after the removal ask asked if it would be okay to slightly change the shape and size of the driveway in order to make it flow better into the sidewalk, give it a border and an entry way to the porch rather than just pouring it as it was. Who else would go out of their way to think about that? He also offered to put in any conduit for future lighting or sprinklers. That was a very nice touch to have him think about the job and how it related to my home. They also did a great job of placing road base, compaction prior the forming and installing the rebar. When it came time to pour concrete, these guys worked. They had everything planned out ahead and seemed relaxed and not rushed. Ryan had explained how he learned concrete flatwork and I believe he fully understands the skill and artistry involved as well. The other companies seemed like they were just in business to make money. He seemed to have a genuine interest in making the project look the best it could and put out the best product he can. He had all his design work and control lines mapped out prior to the pour. They poured the border and porch the first day and the body the next day. Nothing was rushed, but these guys worked!. I was amazed at their efficiency. They finished the concrete and sealed it that day. A week after pouring, I'm using my new driveway. I can't thank these guys enough as the job is awesome. Its the nicest driveway in the neighborhood and I'm very glad I chose Ryan Diehl for his suggestions on the materials, the new shape of the driveway, entry and porch as well as the work these guys did. The joints and lines are perfect. Everything matches up and looks amazing. It was well planned out and executed. For as big of an investment as concrete is, Ryan basically took the stress out of the process. Any time I thought I'd have a concern, he was one step ahead of my thoughts and already had solutions in place. We had Ryan come out for a quote and it was an abysmal experience. Everything started off okay, but went down hill quickly! He sprayed paint in the yard to mark the area we wanted the patio to be. I said 'I hope that's non toxic because we have three dogs that eat snow'. He agreed to throw it out. Ryan then started with 'you're redoing the walkway too, right?' I responded that we were in the information gathering phase and hadn't thought about it, but to quote it out. He balls up the snow with the paint on it and walks back saying 'it'll be $40,000.' This is stamped concrete we are talking about here... Are you serious?? He then says 'I'm not the guy for you. I don't want my name on this.' He then left as quickly as possible. Well, considering this fellow holds himself in such high regard, he should at least bring a portfolio of work with him, not a piece of paper with a few photos. Second, I had no idea his name was so huge in the concrete industry. Give me a break!! Plus I think he was actually serious about $40k for the patio... The good news is that his idea about the walkway did inspire some thought and we are getting that redone as well to match the patio... With a different company!!!! read more

When we decided to replace our old, weedy, difficult-to-keep-clean flagstone patio with stamped concrete, we hoped that it would be much easier to maintain, while still having a natural look. And it has been! We conducted quite a bit of research when looking for a company to work with, looked at tons of pictures and reviews, and none of the work came close to Diehl Concrete. And after meeting with the owner, Ryan, we knew we had found the company for us. His knowledge of the materials and processes involved with stamped concrete was impressive, as was his easy and friendly manner. In all, we had a large patio and two aprons (coming off of two sets of stairs on our deck) poured. The entire process (which was quite interesting to watch) took only a few days; however, the expediency with which the job was completed in no way sacrificed the quality of the finished product. They left the area neat and tidy when they were finished as well. Ryan took the time to follow up with us after the work was completed to ensure that we were happy with what his team had done and to make sure we had no further questions or issues. Our patio and aprons are absolutely stunning. The concrete looks like natural rock and has fooled more than one of our friends. The patio is so much easier to maintain and has become like another living area for our family. I called and/or e-mailed three concrete contractors asking them for a bid on removing an existing wood deck, and replacing it with a stamped, colored, concrete patio. #1, Ryan was the only one (to date, and I started this process in November/December of 2012) to actually respond to me, (the others had enough business, I guess). He showed up early for the bid appointment (which I appreciated), and gave me a very reasonable quote. I hired him for the job, which was supposed to commence after New Years Day, 2013. As December 26th was a warm day, he called and asked if he could get started. He and one other man came and removed the existing deck, and then over the next week worked tirelessly to complete the job, sometimes doing what he could well after dark! The man is a true artist! Not only am I writing a recommendation on this site, but I also recommended Ryan to a friend and a relative, both of whom were impressed enough to also hire him! In an industry where clients are vast and many, it is easy to overlook customer service. When we started researching having our tattered deck replaced with a decorative concrete patio, we overlooked Deihl Concrete several times--the website was so nice and professional I couldn't imagine his rates would be economic. So as we moved our search onward, we began calling companies and asking for very rough estimates over the phone (I didn't want to waste anyone's time with a house call if the price was astronomically over our budget). Most companies treated us as though we were foolish children expecting a "steal". I'm an engineer, so I like to see the numbers (albeit rough) before I can even consider a project. With each call and each company in the Denver Metro Area, we were treated worse and worse. We thought we had the patio settled with Applewood Construction, but the owner became incredibly unprofessional when I inquired about design options--such as rounded corners and an added step. My husband called Ryan and he was more than happy to provide us with a rough estimate. His prices were good.....too good to be true it seemed. Ryan setup an appointment in short notice and came to our home to view the job. His rough estimate was darn near spot on, and he was more than happy to listen to our design preferences. Shortly after the consultation, he and his crew came to the house and setup the patio forms--we paid him in full that day albeit he only required a down payment at the time. He and his crew were fast and before he left, we had established a time frame to pour the patio. I was shocked--great prices, quality work, and efficiency! Ryan and his crew came one Saturday morning, poured and stamped our patio. My dog even got out--oops left the door open--and Ryan's crew quickly fixed the claw marks. After it was all said and done, our neighbors stopped by and complimented on how gorgeous the patio was. I cannot stress enough how wonderful our experience with Deihl Concrete was!
