I had met the owner, Frank, coincidentally at afterschool pick up for our kids during summer program. We had made some small talk and I noticed his shirt and had recognized the shop as the one down the street from work. Later I had looked up reviews for the place and saw that they came highly rated by so many people. We've been searching for a good mechanic and when it was time to get the brakes replaced in our car, I decided to give this place a try. Check in was easy the morning of drop off. Frank drove me in my car to drop me off at work so I didn't have to arrange transportation, since work was a little over a mile away from the shop. He called with a diagnosis to replace the front brakes, and recommended replacing the rear brakes since they were almost worn out as well. He quoted a price to fix which I felt was a really reasonable price. When they finished work, I was stuck in a meeting so Frank offered to drop the car off at work and leave paperwork and keys in a safe location. I paid them over the phone and I swear the process of getting this car worked on could not have been much easier! Ended up fixing the alternator and my axel that ended up costing more than expected but now my car is also leaking oil and it did not leak before coming here. I was in and out in about 30min. I took my 2010 Genesis here because I had a special request and unlike a few other mechanic shops I called, Frank seemed to think that they'd be able to help me. I'm going to be in a walking boot for about a year and needed hand controls installed on my car and they did a great job and didn't charge me a fortune like some of the handicapped automotive locations would have. In addition, I hadn't had any major maintenance done on my car in a bunch of years (I don't put many miles on it) and it seemed like Frank didn't try to recommend anything that I didn't think needed to be done, and the price he charged seemed very fair for what they did. They replaced all eight spark plugs and put on new brake pads and turned the rotors. It was ready to go the same day, even with all the work, and I was very happy with all of the services they provided. The bolt holding my air intake hose broke off and I needed it removed and replaced. I also needed my rear windshield wiper blade replaced (it was locked in place). Gave them a call as soon as they opened. The nice receptionist let me know I could bring the car in that day as they will squeeze me into their schedule. Once i got there, i could tell that they were super busy but left my car with them for a couple hours and I got notice my car was done and ready for pick up. I just wanted to share my experience with B&J Garage. First off Leo is very kind and extremely helpful. My car window had been stuck in the roll down position for 3 days and every shop I called said they couldn't help me bring it up because it was a "powered window" it would simply fall back down if they tried. Check engine light came on and naturally I freak out just a little bit. I pull over and turn to Yelp (but of course) for help. B&J garage comes up with an impeccable rating and I give them a call. Although they were busy Frank, the manger, gets on the phone and says, "bring it in and I will read it for you, to make sure it is not a safety issue and it's safe for you to keep driving it" (insert warm feelings and sunshine here) I quickly head over and Frank true to his form (as described on Yelp) takes care of my vehicular transport. Turned out to be a small emissions leak. He tested the gas cap and then explored under the hood until he came across the culprit. One of the hoses (I will not attempt to identify it, for fear of a catastrophic error) had come loose. He reconnected it and asked if I had been driving over hills or potholes (I plead the 5th) and said thats probably why it came undone. He took 10 minutes out of his busy day to make sure I, and later my 3 year old son, were safe. He fixed the small problem, so I could drive with confidence and ease That my fellow Yelpers is humanity at its best and it was a privilege to get to experience it. Called B & J this morning to see if they would do an oil change on my car, using my own oil and filter; as my vehicle takes a very specific filter and oil per warranty / recall concerns. I am told they do not do labor only oil changes, But they would be happy to order the parts that I need. (of Course so they can mark up the parts well beyond what you can walk into any store and buy it for) They charge $10.00 for a conventional oil change. $10 for oil, a filter, and the labor. But wouldn't just do the labor for $20. Saving themselves parts and making twice as much. Still the answer was no. Id say this is FAR from an honest shop... Take your business elsewhere to someone who cares more about their bottom line. read more

This place is the best!!! Frank is the owner and he took unbelievably good care of me and my family. We were driving north from San Diego and had the check engine light start flashing on our 2005 Honda Odyssey. I got on Yelp to find a mechanic close by and B&J had the best rating. I called them to see if they could help and they said to come in right away and they will scan the car with their computer to see what's wrong. (we thought that our transmission could have been the issue which would have been the end of our trip). Frank immediately diagnosed the issue as a simple spark plug and coil replacement, did the repair, tested the car and got my family back on the road in a matter of 2 hours!!! He even put money in the vending machine for my kids to get chips and a soda!! (what other mechanic does that!?!). Frank could have charged a lot more and done a lot more work but he was honest, clear, did great work, and was an all around pleasure to work with. I took my 2002 Saturn SL2 here cause it was having problems with the reverse gear and Frank, the manager i believe, told me that his girlfriend had the exact same car and similar issue. Well i got there on a Thursday but they told me that they needed to catch up on other cars so I came back the next day around 935am. I waited around an hour for them to do the systems scan and then drive her around for a bit. There hadnt been any check engine lights and I have an obd scanner back home and nothing showed up for me beforehand. When Frank came back he explained to me what the problem could be, either valve body or the solenoids (which me and my dad suspected beforehand) and since they only replace transmissions, he sent me on my way, diagnostic was free of charge. I really appreciated that and I feel that even if it was something more minor, his team would have done a good job. read more
