Called the repair shop this morning and scheduled of drop off my car to see what was wrong in more depth as it was having issues passing a smog test. They said they would have it done by end of day. Got a call saying the problems were worse than expected and that it would take at least 3 days to figure out what was wrong with it and HOPEFULLY have it done by the end of the week. Gave no estimates of price but when asked saying an initial fee of $169 was due and an additional $130 + per hour for the labor BEFORE and AFTER diagnostic. $169 + $130 per hour for an entire week is ridiculous price wise and time wise especially since the mechanic said they don't even know what's wrong with the car. Went to the shop to pick up the car and was forced to pay $169 just for them to look at the car and not even figure out what is wrong with it specifically. They did not fix the car at all or even provide a more exact reason on what was wrong. I would not come here. The prices are ridiculous and they provide no security or assurance that they are doing all they can to fix your car. I honestly think they were just trying to scam us into paying their ridiculous price as no one clarified what was wrong the car in detail but just kept saying they needed several more days to figure it out even though we told them what was failing the smog test. read more

They will over promise under deliver,i dropped off my 2017 silverado for a power steering motor said it would he done same day contract stating installation and programing.I call to check in (since nobody updated me of the status of the car )a hr before they close to find they neet to charge 300$ more than original price because "they dont have the program to program it " i looked and my car was 100% untouched so i picked up my car and called again to set up a day to get it done with the correct program and the response was "thats a never ending battle for me so im not gonna do it have the dealer do it sorry". mind you this is 2 days before thanks giving i couldve been at the dealership 2 days ago now i have to rent a car for thanks giving because its to last second for an appointment anywhere.smh i had hopes in this shop deff proved otherwise . read more

Brought my car in for an oil change and smog check. I understand they are not a pass or don't pay place, however when I checked in I advised I had gotten a new battery a few months prior and asked if they could check the monitors first to make sure it was ready so I wouldn't fail based on that. The guy checking me in asked another guy at the desk if they could and while we thought we had driven it enough and he said it should be fine, he said they could check the monitors first. They gave me an estimate of 2 hours...after 4 hours I got a call they needed more time but the guy didn't give me any additional information. At the end of the day I got the call that my car was ready. It failed the smog check because the monitors weren't ready since the battery had been changed...so they didn't check the monitors first or if they did they still went forward so they could charge me the $49.75 to say it failed. They also charge the DMV certificate $8.25 even though no certificate issued since it failed. The side panel wasn't put back on correctly and my husband had to fix that. Then within 2 days of the oil change where they checked the tire pressure, I had a broken valve and my tire was flat. They did offer to run a monitor check for "free" if I brought it back but I don't trust that since that's what they were going to do the first time and I won't give them any more of my money. read more

My vehicle had a charging system light and Top Dawg Auto Repair assured me that they could fix it using their high-tech diagnostic tools. After nearly an entire week with no news, I went there to check on my vehicle. They said that they were busy and hadn't found the problem, but would get around to it and reassured me of their skills. The next morning, they called and wanted me to authorize more money to continue examining the problem. Although I had previously explained that I am on a very limited fixed income, I had no choice but to agree. Later, they called and told me to take it to the dealer because they couldn't find the problem and that I owed them almost $400.00. So, you live in the Inland Empire, specifically Riverside. Your life is already awful and finding a decent mechanic would only compound the problem. We all know how tough it is to find someone who won't take your ignorance about cars and turn it against you and subsequently your bank account. Well today (no thanks to Yelp, I might add - way to let me down guys) I found the place that you want to go to and since the IE is dangerously under-Yelped (a fact I can only attribute to the lack of modern convenience in Riverside) I'm going to tell you all that you need to know. You want to go to Top Dawg Auto repair. You do. Trust me. Don't argue - just go. Please don't be put off by the old facade of the building or the lack of parking - none of that matters when the guys inside know what the hell they're doing and do it for a very reasonable price and in a friendly manner. We took my girlfriend's car here this week because somehow the brakes had been ground down to a fine powder. I'm not pointing any fingers, so let's just blame it on brake fairies and move forward. We dropped the car off at around 2pm - Darryl called us at about 230 with his diagnosis (new rotors and pads plus it needed an oil change) and we had the car back by 4pm. All for about $280. That, my friends, is service. A special note about Darryl, the gentleman manning the front desk - he was so incredibly nice on the phone when I called them, that I knew this was the place I wanted to go. When we got there and described the problem, there wasn't a hint of condescension in his voice and at no point in the conversation I had with him did I think "whooo boy is this guy going to bend me over and take me to Chinatown. Soooooo, the car saga continued today morning. Was making my way to work when smoke starts coming into my car and I see a spark. I get off the highway and have it towed back to Top Dawg. 5 anxiety ridden hours later, I get a call from Allen. Earlier in the year, my father was able to find someone to do some body work for me and replace a headlight for me for dirt cheap. Apparently, when they put in the headlight, they never finished the electric work. That short ran from the front and made it all the way to my taillights, which started this entire saga to begin with. 5 more anxiety ridden minutes later, Allen tells me the cost of labor and parts for a new fuse panel and wiring.. $190!! I was so ecstatic.. all day I was trying to figure out how I was going to pay for everything (maybe sell a kidney..I only need one right?) and that price was right in my ball park. Plus they saved me the cost of a rental car since they were able to fix it in one day. Moral of the story.. if it's too good to be true, it probably is. Sigh, after suffering an awful weekend and the start of a horrible work week, my brakes started making a grinding noise and locked up while I was driving to work. I searched for auto repair shops close to my work and Top Dawg was in walking distance (0.5 miles to be exact). I made a phone call and Darryl told me to drop off my car. Even after I told them that I work 5 blocks away, they offered to give me a ride back to work. Service was exteremely helpful. Darryl is kind and welcoming, and he breaks the bad news to me in the most gentle way. Estimated cost of $174 to repair and replace my front brake pads. All within a reasonable time. Good customer service that's not the problem at all with my experience. My personal experience with this place is that my car has been here since April 8,2019... it is now April 16,2019 I was told my car would be ready April 15,2019 I have since then had to miss my birthday party because my boyfriends car was here when we were told it would be out on the 15 they've had our car for OVER a week I understand it takes about 4 days to fix transmission issues but oil pan issues take 3 hours max. Its become a burden to take public transportation when I have my own car that I could've been driving. Just very disappointed with the length of time my car has been in the shop. Since 2016, my Ford Escape (Lic. 5BNS985)has been in 6 time for check engine light diag. The same problems has repeated each 6 times. The most recent was July 18, 2018. Less than a 100 miles and within the second week after service, the engine light came on again. Fast, reliable, knowledgeable. Had a quick ignition replacement required on a work truck, I told them I HAD to have it done the same day, they were accommodating and fast. They diagnosed, replaced the part and had me back on the road in just a few hours. The shop has very little street parking, so it's kind of tough to get at the front door, but the entire staff was very friendly and helpful. Don't listen to "A.W.s" review.....he/she obviously shouldn't even be driving a vehicle if he/she cant tell the difference between a brake issue or a power steering issue. I have driven past Top Dawg for years.....I even remember thinking, " Damn, that place must making a killing!", because its so centrally located in Riverside....but at the same time I assumed it was probably overpriced and had crappy mechanics. Then came the day when I actually needed auto repair. I mean, I can do my own brakes....my own oil change.....stuff like that.....but this time my suburban was doing things that were out of my league when it came to auto repair knowledge. I was SO worried that I would not be able to afford getting this stuff done, that I called as many auto repair shops as I could in Riverside, and then I stumbled upon Top Dawg. Warren at Top Dawg quoted me over the phone a price significantly lower than any I had found in Riverside, ($300...compared to an average of $900) so I decided to take a chance and let them work on my vehicle. They fixed the problems on my vehicle and saved me a TON of money. What more could you ask for? Customer Service? Amazing experience here! I was given a business card by Warren, coincidentally, since I was going to take my car to another place to get my smog checked on the same day. So I decided to try them out and went on my lunch break, thinking I was going to leave it for the rest of the day and pick it up after work. I was there for about 15-20 mins between getting checked in, getting the smog done, and paying/signing. They also checked my tires and filled them for me! Normally dealing with something like this is a chore but I was able to take just a few minutes out of my lunch hour and knock everything out! I'll be recommending this place for sure! So glad I found this place! My car was overheating quite often and the day before I took it to this place it basically stalled on the highway. Somehow I was able to get it home and I prayed that there was a decent auto shop near my house out of fear of not making it to the shop. Although I spent a lot of money on it I was communicated with throughout the whole process. I was in no rush so I left it there over the weekend and Monday I was informed of all the issues. Which were many. Got a new radiator, thermostat, fluids, and a few other things. At a lot of auto shops you are just another number but Allen was such a gentleman. He was extremely thorough, very polite, well versed on all sorts of car issues, and an all around good dude. If I have any troubles with my car again I will definitely be returning for the sole reason of the customer service. You can't put a price tag on that! So grateful for you guys. read more

Top Dawg is THE top dawg of auto repair in Riverside!! I highly recommend them for your auto care needs! Had an unexpected snafu on a road trip last Friday where I thought my car was going to completely stop in the middle of the 91East freeway! It was pretty scary. Luckily, I was right near an exit that I could pull off the freeway. I was able to coast down the street slowly and I randomly came across Top Dawg...and, thank God! Just as I pulled into the parking lot, smoke started to come out from under the hood! (Car had overheated due to blown radiator.) Quick-thinking Rachel, the service advisor, immediately instructed me to shut off the engine and exit the car, and she escorted my elderly mother and me to the front office, while she and the mechanic assessed the situation. Rachel was very conscientious about our safety, and even when she took me into the garage bay where my car was to show me the issue that affected my car, she was always mindful of making sure I got in and out safely from the work area. Good news was Top Dawg had a radiator available to replace that day. The bad news was we would be delayed several hours from getting to our destination, but that was fine. I was just glad this happened where and when it happened. It would have been horrible if it occurred while driving in a remote area or we would have gotten stranded out in the desert!? Rachel walked me through every step of the process and did her best to give me a realistic timeline of how long it would take and what the anticipated costs might be. She and her mechanics were thorough and professional, and worked as quickly as they could on a Friday afternoon. They made sure that everything was in tip-top shape before they felt ready to release the car, ensure that we had the greenlight to go and could safely continue our long road trip. She even made sure our transmission fluid was topped off, and even put in for free a screw for my license plate that had fallen out!! It was these added touches that I really appreciated!!
