We HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting the "B Bryan Experience". It was such a pleasure to stay here, we will be back. Upon arrival the rules for getting about the property were made clear and were simple to follow. We LOVED our tour: riding in a vintage Land Rover, getting out at each animal enclosure, and feeding the giraffe! Our guide, Becca, was super knowledgeable about each species and offered fun facts about the individual animals. The cabin experience was well worth the price. We stayed in the Zebra Cottage, a vintage paradise with such great attention to detail (African artifacts and zebra décor), everything you need for pampering yourself on vacation (kitchen with dishes, living room with fireplace, awesome shower, comfy bed, and spa robes to enjoy the hot tub.) Sitting outside in our own private hot tub enjoying the stars was the perfect ending to a perfect day! I cannot say enough nice things about the friendly staff and this beautiful preserve and all the good they are doing for the world. My wife and I have visited several times but this most recent visit was probably the most memorable and the highlight of our vacation. Frank and Judy do such an outstanding job caring for these majestic animals. You can tell that Frank considers the giraffes his "boys" and truly cares for and loves not only the giraffes but all the other great animals on this preserve, zebras and several other species. And Judy loves these animals every bit as much as Frank does, and she does an outstanding job with the tour. She provides great information, listens to and answers questions very well, she's very patient with people, and of course, has a great relationship with the animals. Trust me, for most of you out there, you haven't experienced anything like B. Bryan Preserve. And you should, because it's a unique experience. Take the tour. Learn about these animals and how B Bryan Preserve is saving them and maintaining their species' longevity. For heaven's sake, KISS A GIRAFFE! You think you're gonna forget that experience? You're not. It's awesome. As much fun as kissing a giraffe is, this place is about more than just that. It's a place where these animals can roam freely, be very well cared for, and not only thrive but enjoy their lives here. They have a nice climate for them to live in. These animals have great lives here, which is very heartwarming to see in person. They also have a few resident cats roaming around, and these cats have personalities! They add to the charm and the fun of coming here. They have an old-fashioned soda fountain in there. And on top of all that, you can STAY here on property. You get your own private cottage. Nothing beats sitting out in the open air in your hot tub at night, listening to the sounds of these animals. It is SO cool. And I like the cottages themselves, they're very comfortable, you have everything you need, and they are clean as well as comfortable. Tucked away in the small picturesque town of Point Arena, just north of Gualala, is the B Bryan Preserve, a private nature preserve that is actively committed to the breeding and preservation of African hoof stock - on our trip we saw giraffes, zebras, and antelopes. It's by reservation only, but reservations are easily obtained online. We booked a private tour and we had a wonderful trek through the property led by Sierra, a cheerful, warm, patient, and very knowledgeable guide who was really great with my two little ones, ages 3 and 6. She answered literally every single question that my two asked. We hopped onto the back of an antique Land Rover named "Snowball" and Sierra took us through the various outdoor habitats where they take care of their animals. Sierra showed us three species of zebras, the Plains, Hartmann's Mountain, and Grevy's, two species of antelope, the Lesser Kudu and the Roan, and one species of giraffe, the Nubian. She did a fantastic job of providing us the background on all of these beautiful animals - what distinguishes them from other species, details about their breeding program, gestation period, the population left in the world, and urgency to expand the population and conserve the species. We were able to feed most of the animals and got pretty close to the fence line for some nice pictures. The giraffes were able to be fed at their level in the barn that they stay in. It was fun watching the kiddos feed lettuce to the giraffes with their long tongues. All in all, we had a fantastic time, learned a lot about these wonderful animals, and left with a better understanding of how conservation of these nearly extinct wildlife is at a critical juncture. Supporting such places like the B Bryan Preserve is worth the trip and you will be rewarded with a memorable experience. I have been to B Bryan Preserve with my wife twice now, and I cant wait to come back again. The first time we were there (2014) they were still installing the barn as a waiting area (pre-tour) and a fun gift shop (post-tour). This time around (May 2017) they had the lounge and shop up and running with educational videos and comfortable chairs while you wait for the entire group to arrive. The best thing about this preserve besides the wonderfully cared for, rare and exotic animals are the fact that it is an intimate experience for less than $40. You are in a group of no more than 16 people and I think that is wonderful. Judy and her husband have done a wonderful job with this property and you can tell they genuinely care about conservation. Zebras, Antelope, Giraffes, all in the fog wrapped paradise of Point Arena. Wear a few layers and prepare to get up close and personal with a giraffe. You literally have to be soulless in order to not enjoy every minute of B Bryan. And buy something from the gift shop, its for a wonderful cause! read more

What an amazing experience we got to share with our two young kids. Both boys loved riding in the old school Land Rovers and bouncing up and down on the back benches. As you can imagine they were even more excited when it came time to feeding the giraffes. It was a magical experience being able to feed these gorgeous creatures just inches away from our faces. Holy cow go here! We stayed 2 nights in the chapel cottage... WHERE WE CAN SEE GIRAFFES FROM THE HOTTUB! ...most of through time. Ever time I walk out our door and see a giraffe I get excited. The tours are great... The animals are amazing. The access is so much fun - we literally kissed several giraffes. Wish we saw more of the antelope species on the tour, but the giraffe and zebra are well informed about and amazing! At least 9 exotic species here but only 4 or 5 are topics of the tour. While this leaves a lot to be desired, it is amazing. The cabins are amazingly cozy and comfy, well prepped, stocked, clean and all good! Go here! read more

We did the guided tour in the afternoon. We rode in a 1960's vintage Land Rover, bought on EBay. Animals are all from Africa, and are very well cared for in large fenced pastures. Zebras got close to the fence for beautiful photos but could not be hand fed by the guide. Antelopes were friendly and ate from her hand. The guide explained how each animal had its own personality. At the end we hand fed lettuce to a splendid 15ft tall Namibian Giraffe, their shortest giraffe. This Giraffe was a bully, who had to be separated from the others. Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the animals and helpful with taking photos. read more

Very educational, unique and memorable experience, much more personal than any zoo or wild animal park tour I'd been on. I never knew there were 3 different types of zebras with different markings, or that roan antelope can kill a lion with its horns and giraffes are the most endangered species. Hand feeding these gentle giants was the highlight of the tour. Knowing the fees are used to help protect and preserve these animals for future generations made it all the more meaningful. We've been visiting Point Arena for 17 years and have lived here for the past 3, so figured its time to visit this local attraction. Hmmm... wish we had not waited, as the tour is fantastic. This is a working preserve and the owners and volunteers provide an amazing education on the various animal guests... I never knew there were so many varieties of zebras and antelope, each with different temperaments and markings. The price of the tour supports preservation of these endangered species so feel good about the price of admission, plus the bonus is you get to meet the giraffes up close and personal and ride in the real range rovers to tour the grounds. If you're visiting the Mendocino County area or riding up the coast on Highway 1, stopping for a visit and tour is a "must do". Just don't wait 17 years! read more

Cottage & Tour both Awesome We stayed at Zebra cottage and it fit 3 nicely. Everyone in our travel party loved it! We loved the zebra themed decorations & the outdoor hot tub! The cottage had a very comfy king size bed that my daughter loved. Kitchen was well equipped and came with a fridge, microwave & oven. On the day of our tour it was rainy and the giraffes went hiding into their barn. We therefore got a rare chance to get up to eye level with giraffes and fed them! When did you ever get a chance to look into giraffes into their eyes? They did a lot of conservation work here and provided a nice place for Zoo animals to retire. Worth a visit! read more

Incredible morning spent touring the Preserve. From the moment we were welcomed by the resident cats Amos and Andy to the knowledgeable staff, we knew it was going to be a special day! The property and grounds are so well maintained and the barns, museum/gift shop and private residence are an amazing place to learn history and buy some nice souvenirs. Make sure to check out the 1912 vintage 1912 Anheuser Busch toilet along with many interesting antiques. Brooke helped us and was so patient and kind. **4.5 Stars** B Bryan Preserve is a California hidden gem. Located up along the Mendocino Coast, B Bryan Preserve is located in the quaint town of Point Arena. It's past Sea Ranch on Highway 1 and is about a 3-4 hour drive from SF and the Peninsula. The coastal drive can get quite windy but also can be quite beautiful with ocean views if the fog is cooperating. The Preserve itself is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of several endangered species of animals, all from West Africa. Antelope and zebra were the first inhabitants, but the clear star of the show are the giraffes. Tours are held twice daily and we were lucky enough to book a tour in the afternoon. If you've been to Safari West, you're familiar with the philosophy and style of these safari style tours. You have a brief introductory tour in the Barn, hop into rustic Range Rovers, and begin to roam the 100 acre property. B Bryan Preserve is smaller than Safari West and has fewer animals, but more than made up for it with a more intimate and interactive experience that included walking and stepping outside of the vehicles for picture taking opportunities. The highlight of the hour and half tour was definitely the feeding experience with the giraffe. They get super close and even kiss and take food straight out of your hands. Seeing these unique and beautiful animals up close and in your face is a surreal experience and a must-do for any giraffe or animal lover. The tour guide gave only brief talks but did a great job helping with group photographs, encouraging the animals to come over (they will do what they want so be ready!), and letting people take their time with each stop. There were several families on the tour and it's a great stop along the Coastal Highway. They even offer lodging overnight to stay on the property although no interaction with the animals, other than enjoying their majestic presence in the distance, is allowed. Overall, we had a great experience at B Bryan Preserve and couldn't recommend it highly enough. The mission of the preserve is a worthwhile one and it's nice to support such a worthwhile cause while enjoying a truly unique and memorable experience in this great state of ours. read more

The B Bryan Preserve is a must if you are in the area or not. The drive along the coast to the preserve is gorgeous. The safari tour is fun and rather informative. There is an opportunity to feed the giraffes. The giraffe feeding is by far one of THE best in the states. I have fed giraffes at 15 or so various locations and this is hands down THE best. I was able to feed the giraffes various foods and even feed them from my mouth...giraffe kisses! The price is unbelievable for such a memorable experience. The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable. I look forward to returning and possibly staying at the property/cottage. We will never forget our visit to the B Bryan Preserve! It was such an incredible experience! We had a tour the morning of Christmas Eve 2014. Cathy was our sweet and informative tour guide. They have two tours each day scheduled during feeding times. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. To take the tour costs $30 per adult and $15 for children ages 9 and under. That may seem pricey to some but it is worth every penny! They usually limit tours to 8-10 people. There were 10 people in our tour. First we all meet in the barn where we are told about the animals we are about to see. We learn interesting information about the different species of Zebras and Antelopes and of course, my favorite, the 5 male Rothchild Giraffes that call the B Bryan Preserve, their home. After the informative time in barn we all jump into an old safari looking jeep and head into the preserve. We get to see three different species of antelope (Kudu, Roan, and Sable), two species of zebra (Grevy, and Hartmann's Mountain), and one very special species of giraffes, the Rothchild Giraffe. All the animals at the preserve are endangered species. The Rothchild Giraffe (AKA Baringa Giraffe) is the tallest species of giraffe and thus the tallest animal on earth. Sadly, it is in extreme danger of extinction as there are only 670 left in world!! That morning it was chilly and a bit rainy so the giraffes were in a 2-story barn that day. We walked up to the second floor of barn where we got to feed and pet and get kisses on our hands from the giraffes! It was so amazing to look at them eye to eye and feel their majestic presence! Truly an unforgettable experience! Then we went down to the bottom floor and got to see these gorgeous giants as they hovered way above us! It was unbelievable to be that close to them!! I didn't want to leave. Cathy our tour guide literally had to drag us out, lol. Jagger, a truly outgoing giraffe has no problem coming up to you to take the apples in your hand, tickling you with his tongue in the process. I never realized how sweet and personable these gentle giants are!! We also got to pet a young Zebra and see families of Antelope. Driving around in the jeep through the acres of this place out in nature gives the feeling of being in an African Safari. Only you are not in Africa but in California. The funny thing is that in our tour was a family of four who had spent 3 weeks in Africa this past Summer. Five days of those 3 weeks were spent in an African Safari. I asked them if this reminded them of their safari and they said yes but that in Africa they only saw the animals out in the wild, they never got up close and personal like we got to at B Bryan Preserve! Imagine that! And anyone can experience this for $30 bucks!! Never in my craziest dreams did I ever imagine I would get to make such a profound connection with a giraffe or touch a zebra. I had an amazing vacation with my family in Northern California. So much beauty and wonder to see there. When I asked everyone what their favorite parts of the vacation were, everyone had "the giraffes" on their list!!! They say you can see glimpses of the personality of God through his creation. That is so true, for you leave this place, at least I did, feeling in awe at God and his breathtaking creativity displayed in these animals. The fact that it was on Christmas eve only adds to that. Being so close to these gentle giants was truly an amazing and unforgettable experience! In a way, it was like getting to experience the biblical garden of Eden where man walked with the animals in peace and harmony. As corny as it sounds, you will leave here "changed" by it. Visited with family and a young child. The owner/tour guide seemed serious at first, but once everybody engaged in conversation, he turned out to be really funny. The preserve is very large and provides ample room for the animals. First, we visited and fed some zebras and then rode in an African Jeep to see Giraffes and other animals. For the final attraction, we all fed apples to the Giraffes via hand and mouth - they love to kiss, but it can be wet and sloppy - even the youngster fed the giraffe by mouth. Overall, it was a great tour and nice to know that the preserve here is at least ensuring the survival of certain animals that are slowly becoming extinct in their native locations. $30 adults, $15 children. Reservations are required and they usually do 2 per day. read more

Stayed in one of the two cottages on Christmas Eve. Wonderful place. The cottage was beautiful. Hot tub was private and very nice. Due to the holiday the owners weren't there, but their housekeeper made sure we had everything we needed. This also meant that we weren't given a formal tour, but we were allowed to go with someone while they fed the animals. You get pretty close to them. I'd say at one point I was probably 4 or 5 feet from some Zebra's (a fence between us of course). Unfortunately it rained one of the days so we didn't get to enjoy the grounds as much as we would have liked. I'm already planning on going back in the spring when rain isn't so much of an issue. The only thing I feel I have to mention is that the cottage we staying in is meant to sleep 3-4 people. That's 2 people in a full sized bed in a loft area, and 2 twin beds on the first floor in a bed room. Good for people who are a couple or like to sleep close to each other, not so good for those who don't. You shouldn't let that deter you, just be prepared. read more

To celebrate my 40th birthday, I decided to go "off the grid" for a couple days with two friends. As beautiful as the scenic drive up the coast from San Francisco was, it paled in comparison to my experience at B. Bryan Preserve. Our visit started with a tour, which was educational and highly entertaining. After teaching us about their various types of animals and highlighting the importance of conservation, the staff drove us around the 100+ acres in classic Land Rovers, from which we observed zebra, antelope, and giraffe enjoying the wide expanses of land around them. Along the way, we got to pet a zebra as it was being fed, stand in a field as roaming zebra surrounded us to check us out, AND FEED AND KISS A GIRAFFE. There is nothing like watching a gentle giant lower its head to take the food you're offering, or looking up at it after it gives you an even gentler smooch. Following the tour, we checked into the Chapel Cottage and were excited to learn that it was located on the preserve itself, just outside of the giraffe enclosure. After unloading the car and taking my first steps into the place, I immediately saw that its pictures do not do the cottage justice. Built by the owners themselves, every detail has a story and leaves you with a sense of peace. From the intimate layout, to the private outdoor hot tub from which you can see the animals roam and the adjoining pond where bullfrogs conduct an evening symphony, the stay was so relaxing that none of us wanted to leave. And let's not forget the people! Everyone on the preserve and in Point Arena was very welcoming and embodied small town hospitality, including those we met on our day-trip to nearby Boonville for wine tasting. If you're not sure where or what to eat, drink, or do, everyone is more than happy to help with a recommendation. I've been to other animal sanctuaries, including the very well-known one in Santa Rosa, but B. Bryan Preserve is by far the best; my visit and stay exceeded all expectations (which, truth be told, were quite high - it was my birthday, after all). I will definitely be back. read more

When my niece visited last month, we paid a visit to the B Bryan Preserve in Point Arena. The preserve has several species of zebras and antelope and provides late afternoon tours when they are doing the feeding. The private preserve covers over 100 acres on the outskirts of town. Quite a strange sight to see a herd of zebra when you are driving along the road! The preserve works with zoos and wild animal parks to maintain genetic diversity among the endangered species that they have on the property. There was just six people on the tour and we piled in to the back of a 70's Land Cruiser and made the rounds. It was very cool to be so close the zebras during their feeding, sometimes without a fence between us and the animals. There were even some babies ranging from a few days old to a month old. Needless to say, they are pretty stinkin' cute. Overall, a great time and a place I would recommend if you are in the area. I had so much fun, I would go back again! Any place that has Diva the Zebra, five giraffes, three herds of Zebra, a year old Cape Buffalo and more- deserves lots more stars than I can give. There are two little houses- I have stayed in both, Chapel and Bridge, with my friends. They are cozily warm and fully furnished so you can cook if you want but The Chowder House in Point Arena has the best mussels in the history of the universe! Mendocino has the best bookstore ever. What an amazing adventure for my family to get out of the house in a safe environment. All of the staff took several precautions (masks, hand sanitizer, safe distancing in vehicles and in person) and we felt well taken care of. The guide Zane was so patient with my 4 year old son's many questions and made him feel important on his quest for knowledge. The guides were all so kind, knowledgable and you could tell care deeply for the animals and their preservation. What a special memory to feed Jimmy the Giraffe. We took a guided tour here while staying in the area, and I cannot recommend it highly enough! I was a little nervous on account of the price, but it was SO worth it. Riding in the Land Rovers was fun, seeing the animals so close up was incredible, the tour guides were wonderfully informative, and (of course) feeding the giraffe at the end was amazing! I learned so much I didn't know about endangered wildlife in Africa, and I so appreciate the Preserve for working for conservation and partnering with other organizations.
