Alot of selection for a small store. Friendly people and no bums harassing you outside for money or liquor.

After a day of running errands, my brother was giving me a ride home when he says, "I need to get…read moresome flatbread..." I remembered a place on Jackson Street that I had gone to 5 years ago that had a tremendous selection - looked it up on Yelp and it was no longer on Jackson, but was listed in Castro Valley. So we went thought we'd go by and give it a try. Great decision! The "new" store in Castro Valley is much brighter, cleaner, nicer than the old location. I think the old location had more stuff from Eastern Europe, but this new location seems to have a broader selection, with more stuff from Western Europe and the Middle East. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful - always willing to answer questions and even give tips on how to use the products that they sell. And his recommendations have been great - we asked him about which tahini and zaatar to get (they have many different brands/types of each...) and the ones he recommended have been way tastier than any of the brands that you find in most markets. Especially good was his recommendation on lebnah - he said that the brands they carry are all good, but they have some that they package in-house that was special. I tried it - it was less expensive than the other brands, but was the very best lebnah that I have ever tasted! Richer, creamier, with just the right amount of tang. Wonderful stuff! Anyway, Crossroads is a nice, clean, well-lit place with a great selection of unique products, and friendly, knowledgeable sales staff. Well worth a trip!

One time I got some orange juice and didnt notice how brown it was till I got home. It was months expired. Another time I picked up some onion rings, was going to get ringed up but then noticed the expiration date was over a year expired and pointed it out. The guy behind the counter just gave me the I dont care shrug. I walked in once and right away the guy yelled "your card got declined, you pay now!" I was confused and told him I didnt buy anything yet. He said its from earlier that week and told me to check my phone for charges. It showed it was charged and pending but he said that isnt the right date. I explained to him sometimes it wont post the charge right away on the same day and this is the transaction still pending and not declined. He was just staring at it and scrolling through all my other charges without a response over a lousy $12 or something so I just took my phone back and and told him ill just come back when it clears. Theres this new clerk with buldgy eyes that looks at me everytime I walk in like im about to shop lift or something although I purchased from him many times before. You say hi and he wont say hi back and just give you that unfriendly wary stare. Maybe I'm wrong and its a culture thing but it makes me uncomfortable. The last time I went in my samsung pay on my phone keeps getting rejected with a try again screen on his processor and he keeps screaming "Decline! Decline! Decline!" in a really irritated voice rolling his eyes every time I tried another card while there was a customer behind me. I told him its not declined, I think theres something wrong with your system and he rolls his eyes again very pissed off. So I left and drove to Deep Liquor instead. It did the same thing and I think the owner knows his credit card processor isnt working properly at the moment so he told me just pay him another day because i go there sometimes and he knows me. Liquor King is on my way home and more convenient but ill just go to Deep Liquior for now on. Lower prices, way more selection of everything, and they treat there customers with respect and dignity unlike Liquor King.

We love supporting your business and want to share some feedback that we hope will be helpful. We've had a few visits recently, typically when we stop by on Sunday afternoons around 1pm, where we didn't receive the level of service we've come to expect from a specialty wine shop. When we've asked for recommendations or information about specific wines, we've been told "I don't know" without any offer to help us find answers. When looking for particular varietals, we've been pointed toward general areas of the store rather than being shown specific options. Even when asking about the wine tasting day was responded with a lackluster disinterested response. As wine enthusiasts who genuinely want to learn and make purchases, we find ourselves leaving without buying as much as we'd intended, or sometimes leaving altogether to shop elsewhere. We know this isn't the experience you want for your customers, and we really want to continue supporting you. We thought you'd want to know so you can make sure all customers receive the knowledgeable, engaged service that makes shopping at an independent wine shop special. We're rooting for your success and hope this feedback is useful. Thank you for being part of our community!
