We've had a few visits recently, typically when we stop by on Sunday afternoons around 1pm, where we didn't receive the level of service we've come to expect from a specialty wine shop. When we've asked for recommendations or information about specific wines, we've been told "I don't know" without any offer to help us find answers. When looking for particular varietals, we've been pointed toward general areas of the store rather than being shown specific options. Even when asking about the wine tasting day was responded with a lackluster disinterested response. As wine enthusiasts who genuinely want to learn and make purchases, we find ourselves leaving without buying as much as we'd intended, or sometimes leaving altogether to shop elsewhere. We know this isn't the experience you want for your customers, and we really want to continue supporting you. We thought you'd want to know so you can make sure all customers receive the knowledgeable, engaged service that makes shopping at an independent wine shop special. Literally every other store I walk in to has decided to buy up all the highly allocated and hyped stuff and quadruple (or more) the MSRP in order to maximize profit without any concern for people who actually enjoy quality whiskey. BevMo used to be known for its excellent selection of wines, beers and spirits from around the world, many small labels not found anywhere else. BevMo is now a glorified gas station market with rows of chips. canned foods, cleaning and beauty products. I get it, owner GoPuff is just giving the people what they want but its depressing to see the end result. Overheard this conversation-- Customer--."where's the Cognac"? Clerk: -- "what's that, a beer"? At a minimum your staff should know about the main product you sell .....or you can continue circling the drain and see where that takes you!

I'll ask about a bottle or about their different picks and he'll just stare at me and say "umm I don't know". There's no engagement or even "I'm not sure, let me ask". He just stands there and watches you until you buy or leave. The store sells bourbon, how do you not know about your products. Bummer because the place is pretty cool and they have great stuff on the shelves.
