He did the work to prepare it, add filler, several coats of waterproofing. He even mortared the bricks above the foundation to make sure everything blended in. For the work he did, I think his price was fair and reasonable. Artur is kind and very service oriented. His company also does other construction work and he is a handyman. We're getting a quote from him already for another project. I highly recommend that you check with Artur and AZP Company about any handyman related projects.

He has great ideas and isn't afraid to tell you if something you want to do isn't necessarily worth the expense (which we very much appreciated). They delivered high-quality work that leveraged their knowledge and expertise to ensure our new space was functional and beautiful. Some things you look for in a general contractor and rarely find are the ability to stay close to budget and timelines, and Jim and his team did both of these! Jim does a thorough of a job putting designs/estimates together, and the only change order we had (that wasn't scope creep on our part) was for some poor electrical a previous owner did that Jim couldn't have anticipated. In addition, Jim keeps your project moving. We rarely went two days without someone at the house making progress on our project; there were no extended delays due to materials or labor issues. Jim and his team also excel at problem solving. Every project has hiccups along the way, but every issue is tackled and Jim won't stop until the solution works for you. As an example, we were having trouble matching the color of some new hardwood floors to older, existing floors in the house. He helped us put down 16 stain samples and promised we would keep trying until we got it right (and we finally did!). It was very clear our happiness was extremely important to him. If you are looking for a contractor who is honest, knowledgeable, responsive, efficient, affordable, and fun to work with, Independent Remodeling is who you should work with. After the work was completed, we found sections of the drainage piping left exposed above ground rather than properly buried as they were prior to the project, raising concerns about freezing and potential damage in winter. We contacted the company multiple times and provided photos. While they state they performed follow-up work and that the system is functional, we were not provided a resolution that addresses the exposed piping or returns it to its original buried condition. There is a disagreement regarding responsibility for final grading and restoration. Based on this experience, I would not recommend them to others.
