We decided on the small pot with beef and 2 sides special. For a combo that fed 2 people with leftovers to spare it was a good deal. The small pot is quite large. We got to choose some premium ingredients such as king oyster mushrooms and wide starch noodles. The deal came with a choice of 2 sides so we got fried pork belly and takoyaki. Both arrived pretty fresh and piping hot, not stale. The main course of the small pot we chose with mild spicy flavor. It had a good numbing spicy kick though it a hint of the greasy taste that turns me off a little bit with these types of dishes. It wasn't overwhelmingly greasy, thankfully. It comes with a little bit of glass noodle, tofu skin, bean sprouts, and more inside the soup. You don't really need to add anything to the soup I will comment on the packaging for the takeout. It's amazing! Super innovative. They pour your left over soup into this tin and have a secure rope around it to pick it up. It fits the generous amount of soup that it comes with and is easy to reheat on the stove top. Just pop the lid off and heat on the stove. Ambience was very nice. Not a huge space so make sure to come early, you will definitely want to eat your fish soup fresh out the kitchen because that's when it's the tastiest. Giant portion of pickled fish soup - it's sour and tangy and so so good. The fish itself is also super fresh and you can soak up the rest of the broth with rice after you finish eating the contents. Super fast service and the waiters are sweet. You can get a free dessert if you refer friends and the homemade mochi is actually fantastic. For sides, I liked the pickled chicken gizzard - it was spicy and crunchy. The crispy fish skin can be passed on, the novelty is lost after a few pieces. The fish itself is tender and it comes with a lot of sauerkraut. However, despite the amount of peppercorns and chili peppers, it didn't have much of a kick and was more sour. The spice is definitely a kick but the tomato soup option is also a good choice for a sweeter base. The appetizers that we've tried are the fried chinese buns, fried dough sticks, and pork belly which are all great. Their new crispy fish skin was extremely crispy and a bit oily but delicious when dunked in the soup. The service is pretty prompt and the employees are always so happy and eager to greet you! It's hard to find a chinese sauerkraut fish store, but this one is definitely one to go to! This place has a very cozy interior, perfect for small sized gatherings with really comfortable and cushioned chairs. This is a specialized food store, so if you dont like fish, this is not the place for you! But their classic flavor is my favorite, which is the chinese sauerkraut. It brings a umami mixed with sour flavor, due to the pickled nature, but the vinegar-y taste is so refreshing, especially with the fresh fish filets! If you get a combo, you automatically get rice on the side and at least 2 side dishes. Some are more of an acquired taste, but I got the spiced cold chicken and the fried pork belly. The spice dip with the pork belly was savory with a hint of spice, reminiscent of cumin lamb seasoning, and the chicken is filled with chopped chilis, marinated alongside soy sauce and chopped peanuts. The service here was especially great, as the waitress came around with free corn soup samples for all the tables while we were there! It honestly had such a sweet and fresh taste of corn. It was my favorite thing I tasted there, so I hope it gets added to the menu soon. Even though we got the combo for 2 with 3 people, we still had leftovers which they packaged up so nicely in these thicker plastic containers that seem reusable and the stew in an aluminum sealed stew container that had its own carrying box! The fish with pickled veggies is their most popular dish. We loved the flat clear noodles at the bottom. The soup base was perfect to drink as soup or mix with rice. The fish was smooth and bouncy. The crispy pork belly side dish was our favorite. Super crispy and fried just right. The spicy sour fern starch noodles were cooked with some type of vinaigrette that helped cut the fatty fried dishes we ordered. The century egg with fried jalapeno tasted like your typical preserved egg with a chili oil. It was a good dish, but I would probably try something else next time. The pickled chicken feet were spicy with the perfect level of sour. House made fried milk custard was a crispy with a very smooth custard center. This is like a dessert that's not too sweet. The lotus was lathered in honey, a dish I didn't care for since I don't like honey. The spiced chicken in chili sauce was also my favorite dish. The chicken was tender and smooth (cooked perfectly). The crunch of the black fungus, and purple onion is perfectly matched with the fresh minced garlic, cilantro, lemon juice, and vinegar. I highly recommend going there. It is quite pricy, but if you don't overeat, you can definitely split the meal into more portions. We waited 1 hour for a table and then they told us that our table was ready but made us wait another 15 minutes. You can smell the aroma of the food when you open the door and walk into the restaurant. The staff: They are friendly and give you a welcoming feeling, but they did forget one of our items which they never brought out to us even though we asked them for it. I was a little disappointed when I saw a piece of hair in my cup of water. Classic spicy sour soup base: This was actually pretty unique with a lot of taste and has a hint of spice. If you drink the soup, then you get that tongue numbing feeling. The fish was nothing special and just tasted like any ordinary fish. Century Egg: This has a bland taste, but the jalapenos give it a little kick to the taste.
