The area looked familiar to us, and we realized it was the space next door where Tiger Sugar had been when it first opened before moving over into H-Mart, in Edison. I was not in the mood for that because my eczema had flared, and I could not take things very spicy, and that dish had two chilli peppers next to it on the menu. Knowing this place is known for its seafood, we chose Signature Steam Fish Dumplings and Salt Pepper Fired Fish Fillet. From their handmade dumpling section, we chose their Signature Steam Fish Dumplings. Succulent fish with thick skin was exceptional. The fish gave it a more delicate taste, and it was a perfect pairing with our main entree, Salt Pepper Fired Fish Fillet, which was delicate and moist but packs a flavor punch! The young gentleman who was the host was also our waiter. He later told us if we ever wanted to tame the spice down, they could do that for us. If things get too spicy for me, I could always order their Coconut milk beverage to help calm the spice down. Clean and nicely decorated interior. For the mains, we ordered three items: a large Tomato Flavored broth with noodles, fatty beef, spam and vegetables; a small Red Pepper Spicy broth with pig intestines, noodles and vegetables; and a small House Signature Chinese Sauerkraut soup with fish, noodles and vegetables. I've had this spot on my to visit list for a couple months now and had the opportunity to visit after coming from a road trip with family for dinner today. We were greeted by a friendly worker/owner possibly and he was able to speak cantonese, mandarin, and English pretty fluently. He recommend some dishes like the soup dumplings, tripe, and chicken with spicy sauce for starters and all were delicious. The chicken with spicy sauce provided a nice almost numbing flavor. The soup dumplings were hot and packed with juice and meat. They came freshly made within 15 minutes or so. My family then each ordered our own pot - I chose the sauerkraut broth with beef and added on the ox tripe and bamboo shoots. I liked the broth as I am a big fan of sour and spicy flavors. My brother ordered the dry hot pot which includes a minimum 6 add ons. My dad ordered the sauerkraut noodle soup and my mom and her sister ordered the mushroom broth with chicken and fish. Everyone liked their dishes with their customizations and the owner was very friendly and helped provide a nice atmosphere. The portion sizes are pretty big in my opinion so you get your money's worth. The restaurant itself is very clean and spacious. There are 2 bathrooms that were very clean too, which can be a challenge I find sometimes at other asian restaurants. Overall it is a nice spot to try something new! Greeted very friendly service, clean and tidy, fast. Server gave recommendations and helped with our order. Chances are you won't have anything like it and it's tasty as well. So it gets a 5/5 in my book for uniqueness that matches the flavor to satisfy the palate. Especially great in the winter when it's cold. :) If you can't choose, the house signature is really solid, recommended by the owner as well. I had one drink here and it was the Plum Juice. My mother gave it her stamp of approval and destroyed it whole when i brought it back. Sooo give it a try if you want. Service (4/5): The waiters and waitresses aren't out of this world, but they do their job perfectly fine. They aren't rude and they have ones that speak Chinese and some that are bilingual. The owner is there at times and they are quite friendly! They will gladly tell you about the store and the food. Decor and Ambience (4/5): The outside is a bit hard to notice as it is in a mini outlet off the main road. If it ever gets packed you might have to park locally on the neighborhood roads. The inside is rather simple but has character. Nothing that really stands out besides the occasional decorations they place around. I also don't judge the total score harshly due to decor just because it isn't OUTSTANDING. It has a modern feel to it. Overall(5/5) The food is really good, I mean so good I'm not going to lower the score due to the other aspects despite being on the lower side. I've been wanting to come here for a while because I've always wanted to try sauerkraut fish but never got a chance. We finally got that chance to come here for an early dinner. Upon entering, I see that the restaurant is medium in size, with two large screens showing their famous Sauerkraut Fish dish on one side of the restaurant. Screens depicting the restaurant's other meals are put up on the other side of the restaurant as well. Tables are situated everywhere and a small wall with green plants is set up in the middle of it all. We ordered the following: Sliced beef with assorted vegetables- this was ok. The squid was a little overcooked but tasted ok. Assorted seafood with sauerkraut flavor- this was suggested to us by the owner because it was their signature dish. We wished we never listened. This was not our cup of tea. We didn't like the taste and felt that the squid here was also overcooked and tough. Plum juice- owner also suggested this and this was awful and very sweet. Again, wished we didn't listen to him. Chicken with chili sauce- this was the best item on the table. It was nicely cooked and spicy. We got the free appetizer because we paid in cash. We got the cucumber with chili sauce and thought it was pretty good. Service was pretty fast. I felt very uncomfortable because the owner was watching us the whole time. I guess he knows that I'm reviewing the place. Glad I got to try sauerkraut fish. Wasn't impressed. Don't think I'll be returning because I felt uncomfortable in there the whole time. I had a great experience visiting this restaurant for the first time today! The owner and staff are incredibly nice and friendly. They took the time to get to know us, and offer their recommendations based on our dietary preferences. The seating and decor inside was nice. I particularly liked the way the food was served. The noodle soup came in the hot pot it was made it so that it would remain warm throughout the course of the meal. We also tried their fresh plum juice which was recommended as the noodle soup was deliciously spicy. For dessert we got the fried pumpkin cakes. It was a new taste for me but I really enjoyed it. I won't lie, the food was good, but the service completely ruined my experience. The waitress seemed more focused on getting us to spend as much money as possible than providing respectful service. First, she judged my order, snidely remarking that it was too little food even though I knew it was enough for my party. I understand when waitstaff express concern and want to make sure that you've ordered enough, but her tone was rude and condescending. Then, when asked how many bowls of rice I'd like, I responded "one", yet she brought out two and charged me for both. If you're going to ask what I want, why not listen to me, the customer, instead of doing what you want? I also paid with cash because of a sign on the table that read, "Get a free appetizer when [you] check out with cash". When I went to settle the bill, the waitress acted as though I had inconvenienced her by not informing her the moment I walked in that I planned to pay with cash. Considering it was my first time at Nai Brother, I wasn't aware of this requirement. Nonetheless, it doesn't excuse her rude behavior. To top it off, she didn't apply the advertised discount for the free appetizer. Instead, she gave me her own special discount that saved me $1, even though I should have saved $6 for the appetizer. She acted as if I should be grateful for her "benevolence." My frustration stems from the fact that I paid in cash expecting a free appetizer, but the only ones who benefited were the restaurant. They save on processing fees that customers have to cover if paying with a credit card and then use cash payments to boost their profits under the pretense of offering "discounts", yet not applying those said "discounts" when it's time to pay. From my experience, this is common among Chinese restaurants and while I get that they're just trying to maximize their earnings, it's still frustrating. What I want to drive home is that the issue wasn't about the money, the food, or the ambiance; it was the attitude of the waitress. Despite the good food, I won't be returning to a place where customer service is clearly not a priority and where the staff seem more interested in being greedy than welcoming. I always leave a tip, but this time the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. To no one's surprise, the waitress chased after me, demanding a tip for her poor service. Here's a reality check: customers are not obligated to leave a tip. Unfortunately, it seems that nowadays people have forgotten this and will guilt-trip you into tipping, claiming it's illegal not to and calling you a bad person, even though the only reason I chose not to tip to begin with was because of her terrible service. I ended up tipping because she wouldn't let me leave otherwise. The essence of tipping culture has long been lost, with people feeling entitled to a tip regardless of their behavior. It's an unfortunate and, I'd argue, inaccurate name for a super flavorful Hot and Sour soup. We came on a cold winter night, looking for a spicy brothy dish to warm us up. We were seated immediately, as the place was not very busy; it seemed like most people ordered food here for delivery or takeout. The sauerkraut fish soup had a variety of flavors to choose from. We went with the House Signature flavor with a single portion of flounder to share between the two of us, plus a dry hot pot of spicy beef and assorted vegetables, along with popcorn chicken on the side. Everything was delicious. We were worried that the soup would have too much of the mala numbing spice, but it was the perfect amount of spice. It was incredibly flavorful, and the fish filets were so tender. The dry pot was good, though we probably prefer nearby Spice24's version better. Popcorn chicken was also very tender and flavorful.
