This review reflects our experience with weekend dim sum only. I have not dined here for dinner, so I can't speak to that aspect of the restaurant. Dim sum here follows the classic weekend tradition: ladies and gentlemen push carts through the dining room, and you select dishes by peering at what's stacked on their trays. Unlike Chinatown, nothing is announced aloud. You have to ask them what they have before they tell you. With a packed house, the resulting cacophony makes conversation a challenge. You often have to strain just to be heard. Here are the dishes we ordered: Deep-fried shrimp w/salt & pepper - Flavor was decent but messy. (3/5 stars) Baked sweet egg yolk bun - Best enjoyed when piping hot. (4/5 stars) Steamed sticky rice with pork sausage in a lotus leaf - Lacked filling. From conversations with friends and after trying several dim sum spots in the Edison area, this is considered one of the better options. I know dum sum is around noon, but still, if you plan to serve leftovers, make sure they are hot. We definitely will not come back. Prices are expensive. Straight away I want to be clear that my review should really be a 3.5 Star if half stars were a thing on Yelp. I'm being generous and rounding up to 4. It should also be noted that I went the day before Chinese New Year, which impacted the service but I'll touch on that below. Recently while shopping at Kam Man (across the road) I caught a glimpse of Golden Seafood Restaurant out of the corner of my eye and ran across the road to check it out. What I saw inside activated some nostalgic brain cells. The interior felt like something out of the Manhattan Chinatown of my past with a rather plain interior with decorations on the walls, large round tables and smaller rectangular tables and a raised platform on one side of the restaurant (mind you, there is a GIANT screen behind it so that's not retro). I wanted to check this place out and the day before Chinese New Year in 2026 I did! When I came in with my GF there were about a dozen people already waiting for tables. It was about 7:30PM and the place was *packed*. It was the day before Chinese New Year, so no shock there. However, I figured since it was just two of us, we would get seated fairly quickly - and I was right! By the time we were seated, it was about 7:45PM and most of the larger parties were on their way out. The staff was clearly exhausted. You could tell it had been a long day so I was clearly not seeing them at their best. We were served a pot of tea very quickly, but no one ever came over to take our order. I finally called to a waiter who was walking in our general direction and he took our order. The food took a LONG time to come out. I think easily a bit over a half hour. Again, given the date this did not shock me and in a future visit I'll be paying attention to how long the food takes to come out. Here's what we got: Stir Fried Pea Shoots with Garlic Beautifully done. The vegetables were perfectly cooked, tender but not overdone. A good amount of garlic was used, giving it a really nice flavor. Beef with Broad Noodles This is one of my favorite dishes and I've had great examples of it and terrible ones. This falls in the middle, like, a solid B-. The flavors were on point and it was cooked perfectly. My only issue is that I'm used to having more scallion and bean sprouts in it. They were kind of stingy on those, but I enjoyed the flavor. Salted Fish, Chicken, Eggplant casserole This is also one of my favorite dishes and I enjoyed this version quite a bit. The key is to be able to taste the salted fish as some places do not use enough. In this case they did without it becoming overwhelming. It was cooked fresh (as such dishes should be). Everything was nice and tender and very savory. Much to my sadness, they do NOT have sweet soup for dessert, only orange slices. I was surprised as 1-9 Seafood *does* have it (though you generally have to ask for it). The place was super clean and not crowded at all, though that might be because we went on a Thursday night. Golden Seafood Restaurant is a Chinese banquet restaurant located in Edison, NJ with a large free parking lot shared commercial space with neighboring businesses in a shopping plaza. This Dim Sum restaurant also serves neighboring New Brunswick locale. There is a Japanese beckoning cat maneki-neko 招き猫 in this business to welcome patrons or to bless this business for prosperity. There is also one golden laughing Buddha holding alms bowl and prayer beads. There are free fortune cookies located at the register counter and business card also available for grabs. We entered early approximately 11:00 am and were promptly seated. There were many standard Cantonese Dim Sum dishes lacking as 鱼丸 jyu4 jyun4, fish balls. The staff speaks Cantonese which is very good to hear Cantonese spoken as it is mellifluous... at long last to continue this vernacular Chinese language. We found the quality of food average. There is a dine-in menu to order platter entrées if the Dim Sum dishes does not eat your fill. My foodie analysis: 蝦 餃 haa1 gaau2, shrimp dumplings Good consistency. The dumpling skin is not hard nor thick. 燒賣 siu1 maai6/2, pork and mushroom dumpling Good consistency. 珍珠雞 zan1 zyu1 gai1 mini sticky rice wrapped in Lotus leaves Good consistency. 蒸排骨 zing1 paai4 guk6, steamed spare ribs The spare ribs were swimming in oil and contained very minimal meat for paucity. 牛腸粉 ngau4 coeng4 fan2, beef cheung fun I really enjoyed this dish. The rice noodle was a delight. We ordered two of this dish. 蝦腸粉 haa1 coeng4 fan2, shrimp cheung fun I really enjoyed this dish. The rice noodle was a delight. 牛肉丸 ngau4 juk6 jyun4, steamed beef balls The Dim Sum trolley woman did not cut these in half. It was somewhat easily to break in half using chopsticks. Thankfully, these balls were not annoyingly wrapped in bean curd like other Dim Sum restaurants in NYC. Sans the bean curd, please! Unfortunately since we arrived early morning before 12:00 pm noon on a Saturday, there were no desserts in the Dim Sum trolleys in plain view. Came on a Tuesday afternoon at 11:00am the day before NYE. A few large tables but no wait and not too busy. Interior was cute with an AI holiday youtube video playing on silent. We ordered veg lo mein, veg spring roll, steamed shrimp dump, steamed beef tripe with ginger and scallion, sweet egg yolk bun, beef rice roll, pork bun, shumai, chinese dough with rice noodle, turnip cake, shrimp with snow pea leaf dumpling. No carts but everything was fresh except for the deep fried mochi pork dumpling (ham sui gok), would 100% pass on it since it was cold (and oily because it was cold) but not the first restaurant to do this. This spot gets the job done if you're looking for no frills dim sum! We were able to get in during peak dimsum hours on a Saturday (with plenty of parking in that particular commercial area), though as a smaller group we had to share a round table with other parties. There is a good selection of typical dim sum plates, and some of my favorites are the golden egg yolk buns, the shrimp in peppers, the congee, and shrimp scallion buns. Unfortunately almost all of the soup dumplings we ordered were split so we weren't able to really enjoy it the way it was intended to. This is one of our fave places to go for weekend brunch. It's over a half an hour drive for me to get here, but it's the only place nearby with cart service unless I drive down to Philly. It's worth the trip. It's good dim sum, and the tiny dim sum appetizer menus at my local Chinese places don't compare. The dim sum menu here is good sized and has a good variety of the usual suspects, but there's also a regular menu with items found in regular restaurants. The dim sum menu on the weekend is expanded to include a couple dozen additional, special dishes not found on the weekdays. On Saturday, and especially on Sundays, you'll want to get there early to avoid the lines, but be careful about coming too early, as many of the special weekend dim sum menu items don't start to roll out on the carts until it gets closer to 11 AM. That said, you can order them from one of the roving wait staff if you don't see them as available. The same thing applies if you arrive after the weekend lunch rush, as the cart service seems to end when lunch is finished, and you need to order off the menu afterwards. Also, I've had them try to talk me into something I don't want, and you know it was just because they had a few left from the cart service, so don't be afraid to be firm with the "No" if they're persistent. Also, if you see a cart with something you like on it, and the cart isn't close by, you can ask the waiters, and they'll go grab a steamer of it for you. Don't be shy about this, as I've seen the carts get hijacked by diners there who haven't even finished sitting down at their table. Dim Sum is a take no prisoners event--enjoy it. read more

Walking in: Lines are long on the weekend for lunch but I've never waited more than 10 minutes here. There are plenty of tables and this place is great for large groups. Once you figure out what you want, flag down a waiter and order everything at once because you will never see your waiter again. We weren't celebrating anything in particular but we did order a lot of the classic birthday dishes, including fried flounder, lobster, abalone, chicken, conch with fried tofu and shrimp, fried shrimp with mayo, sweet and sour pork ribs, longevity noodles, and fried rice. I haven't had this type of traditional Cantonese food in years, so this was very nostalgic for me. My favorites were definitely the fried flounder and the lobster. This was my first Dim Sum business lunch with local Chinese realtors, mortgage bankers and title insurance representatives. They wanted another legal perspective on the changing conditions in their industry. It went very well, as the small plates/bowls/steamers were freshly made and delicious, and facilitated our wide ranging conversation. Golden Seafood uses paper menu order forms rather than traditional pushcarts which saves on labor and equipment cost, but reduces the charm from old fashioned hawking dishes table to table. It does make for fewer interruptions. Edison has become a center of Asian culture where all cuisine styles are available. Totally enjoyed my drive there from Bucks County, watching the changing signs from English to Chinese, Hindi and Korean. Come here for the friendly atmosphere, convenient parking and spaciousness. As for dim sum...it's no way on the level of our favorites in NYC, but it's passable. Most do outside of Metropolitan areas, but having one so close to home was a nice change. Nothing beats being able to stroll in and just get down to business, you know what I mean? We walked into the restaurant at around 11:15am on very nice Saturday morning and, to our surprise, we were seated immediately at a table of 4! Wait, what?! Immediate seating at a dim sum restaurant for exactly our size party? Incredible. This might be common in these parts of NJ, but from where I come from in NYC, this is unheard of. Typically, 11:15am is already late at most dim sum restaurants, but not in these neck of the woods. I will say a wait did begin to develop, but it didn't seem like most parties waited long, though some did have to share tables. We were anticipating quite a wait, so when we were seated, we didn't know what to do with the extra time! Anyhow, it was time to chow down! ALL of our favorites were on full display on those lovable push carts being wheeled around by the elderly ladies. Nothing makes you feel like you're having dim sum quite like the push cart experience. Since it was our first time at this restaurant, we tried to go all out (or as much as our love handles could take!) - we ordered the roast pork rice roll, shrimp rice roll, pork dumpling + shrimp pork dumpling (aka shu mai), shrimp dumpling (har gow), chicken feet, spring rolls, shrimp and chive dumplings, turnip cake, steamed egg custard buns and egg tarts. There was much more offered on the carts, but we were stuffed! Everything looked good, but some lacked the usual delicious flavor. We felt that some of the dishes just didn't hit the spot like they usually do at dim sum restaurants. We were actually quite surprised because, if anything, food is usually over-salted, not under. Some of it was pretty good, some of it was ok and some of it we barely tasted (like the spring rolls). In addition, we also ordered a shredded chicken pan fried noodle to go and when we had it at home it was ALSO lacking flavor. The noodles were very crispy, which was great, but the sauce was bland. Still, we enjoyed our time here. The experience was great, probably greater than we anticipated, because we were seated immediately at a window table and we were able to eat asap. We just wish some of the dishes had a bit more flavor. Would we come here again? Convenience of a parking lot and with the lack of dim sum restaurants in NJ, probably yes. read more

We often frequent Golden Seafood restaurant in Edison as one of our local dimsum restaurants. Today we stopped by for a weekday lunch which offers a variety of staple chinese dishes for around $10 each and comes with choice of soup and a bowl of rice per order. Their lunch menu also offers made-to-order dimsum dishes as they don't normally run carts on the weekdays due to slower traffic. Terrible, terrible, terrible. A friend of mine split two lunch specials and 6 dim sum's today. The ONLY and I mean ONLY dim sum that was edible was the shrimp in eggplant. Soup dumplings had no soup and very thick skin. Ribs in black bean sauce was tasteless. Main dishes and hot and sour soup were tasteless. The sticky rice had an awful hot dog/sausage in the middle. The other customers were Asian and I can't believe they think the food is good. Just horrible. My last dim sum was at Ginger Bistro in Ft. Myers Florida and was so much better than this food. Service was also questionable. I don't want to think that "better" food is given to the Asian customers. I was disappointed and clearly will not return. We've tried most of the Asian restaurants on the Rt27 and Rt1 corridor in this area. I expected so much better. Tasty moment, Wus fish house and Coco, just to name a few are light years better. What a disappointment... set banquet (the most expensive set) menu with 2 additional dishes add-on. Only 3 out of 12 dishes - The shrimp with walnut, fried scallops, and fried rice were good, fried chicken was too salty, cold dish appetizer was ok. The rest Fish soup, stew tofu, steam fish, Avalon, and sea cucumber were tearless, awful, some dishes came cold, no flavors what so ever. Service was mediocre. Have been here a few times for dim sum now and have loved it each time. We always get there 15 min before it opens on the weekends, bc it does get busy and the tables fill up as soon as doors open. Came here for Dim Sum on a late Saturday morning and it was packed. If you have a small party they ask if you are okay sharing tables because most of their tables accommodate 8 people. They have a good selection of traditional dim sum items. I don't know the Chinese names of the things we ordered but we ordered chicken feet, roast pork bun, turnip cake, steamed pork short ribs, shrimp rice noodle roll and the baked sweet egg yolk buns. Everything was good, although not the best dim sum we've had. The radish cake had a crab flavor that is different from other places. The highlight was the baked sweet egg yolk buns. The filling was luscious and sweet and there was a good amount of it and the crunchy sweet topping added a nice texture to the bun. Overall the place is solid for dim sum if you don't mind waiting a bit. The prices are good and there is a lot of variety to accommodate everyone's tastes. read more

Since the pandemic, our usual Christmas brunch never came back so when I went to the spot for Chinese new year this year, I thought it would be a great location and I was right. Myself and 19 others went this past weekend and we got a small room in the back where we were able to order from the regular menu and have the dim sum carts come to us. Every single thing we got was unbelievably hot, fresh and delicious. The noodles, fried rice, chicken, and shrimp dishes.....YUM!!! The staff was so friendly and attentive. You would think all this would cost an arm and a leg but even with a handsome tip we spent less than $40 each and we were stuffed to the gills. read more

I come here only when I'm desperate for Chinese food. The food is ok, serves the purpose. It's the waiters that annoy me the most. They stand around chitchatting while my dishes are piling up. That is, they don't voluntarily exchange new dishes for your dirty ones. When I asked for, say, hot sauce or soy sauce, one waiter actually shook his head in disgust, as if I was bothering him. This is totally unacceptable. Someone would have to twist my arm for me to go back again. Just awful service! read more

I will give it 4 stars for taste and 0 star for service. Staff/waiters were NASTY & RUDE. We had a private room with the banquet pre-selected menu. They brought all the dishes out in 10 minutes & basically never came back. We had to go outside of the room to get someone to help with everything. Also, 0 star for cleanliness. Their food was okay. It's a very busy restaurant. A table for 4, it took about 30 minutes to get seated on Saturday around 11 am. If you want to share a table, it's pretty fast to get seated. Congee had no taste, it was like eating rice in the boild water, not very seasoned. The food selection was less than that of many dim-sum places I had been to. I would go back if I am in the area to meet up with people, but I would not choose this place if I am in the mood for a dim sum for myself. Price was little high and they didn't give me break down of each items so I am not sure tip was already priced in the check, I gave them tip on top of it anyway. After coming here for lunch, we decided to give this place a try for dinner. We ordered the following: Lobster with minced garlic over sticky rice - We thought that the rice could've been stickier. The presentation looked like the rice was dropped from the sky but the taste made up for it. Crispy Jumbo Shrimp with Salt and Pepper -This was a huge disappointment because we expected it to be salt and pepper. Instead it came out with garlic chips. We expected it to be whole shrimp with head but instead got shelled deep fried shrimp with a lot of batter on it. Nothing Cantonese about it. Beef with bitter melon - Daughter thought it was good and that the beef was soft and bitter melon was nice and crispy. She said that she would order it again. Buddha's delight- Hubs thought that this was the best dish of the night. He said that there was a ridiculous amount of mushrooms and tofu. As usual for service in Chinese restaurants, you get the bare bones. You order and you get your food and they leave you alone. Glad we got to try this place because I've been wanting to try it for a while and never got around to it. read more
