The fish came out piping hot. Flavor was really good. Can choose add on's to the soup. Will recommend!

Amazing suan cai yu!!!!!! I cannot say how much I love this fish! So yummy. It's super spicy super sour super good. It comes with a little bit of glass noodle, tofu skin, bean sprouts, and more inside the soup. You don't really need to add anything to the soup I will comment on the packaging for the takeout. It's amazing! Super innovative. They pour your left over soup into this tin and have a secure rope around it to pick it up. It fits the generous amount of soup that it comes with and is easy to reheat on the stove top. Just pop the lid off and heat on the stove. Ambience was very nice. Incredibly clean location and the staff is very accommodating.

Combo for 1 is $29.99 with choice of 2 sides, steamed rice, and 1 included appetizer.

We came by for an early Saturday dinner and had a short 15-20 min wait. The restaurant is small and cozy but service is fairly quick. We tried two different fish/beef pots - the signature and the spicy Szechuan. The signature was a sour broth with a little bit of spice. The Szechuan was extremely spicy. The fish and beef were thing cut and absorbed the flavor of the soup. The sides were probably my favorite. The spicy chicken had great seasoning and you can't go wrong with fried chicken wings and pork belly!

Ambiance is small & compact. Not a good place if you have more than party of 6. 3/5 Food is one on point for spicy fish hotpot but they run out of beef on Easter Sunday. Side dishes are well executed with chicken feet, chicken & deep fried rice dough. Food 4/5. Service is okay but expensive for small portion of protein with a lot broth. 3/5

I've dined here a few times in the last few months, and while their fish soup is good, their small dishes can be a hit or miss. You can select the size of your fish soup (small, medium, or large pot), the flavor (signature spicy sour flavor (classic or numbing version), spicy, or tomato), and your protein (fish only, beef only, or fish & beef). My favorite so far has been the numbing version of their signature spicy soup. The base of the fish soup does not come with many ingredients except for some tofu, so be sure to order a few add-ons. + Free milk mochi dessert for sharing their restaurant with 2 friends

One of my new favorite Chinese restaurants in New Jersey!!! Not a huge space so make sure to come early, you will definitely want to eat your fish soup fresh out the kitchen because that's when it's the tastiest. Giant portion of pickled fish soup - it's sour and tangy and so so good. The fish itself is also super fresh and you can soak up the rest of the broth with rice after you finish eating the contents. Super fast service and the waiters are sweet. You can get a free dessert if you refer friends and the homemade mochi is actually fantastic. It's soft and melts in your mouth but not too sweet, and the flakes on top add some nice texture. Can't wait to go back, I love you B2J!!

First time here and it's delicious! We had a group of four but the portions looked generous so we got a combo for 3. There was plenty of food and all four of us were full! You can pick 3 add-ons for the soup in addition to your choice of broth and protein (fish, beef, or fish and beef combo), plus 3 side dishes. For dessert, we got their house made milk mochi. It was my first time trying milk mochi! The bits on top are like a crushed vanilla wafer cookie. So yummy.

This is a no frills fish soup spot! The portions are large and quickly fills up the small tables. The wait isn't too long for a table since everyone eats fairly fast. For sides, I liked the pickled chicken gizzard - it was spicy and crunchy. The crispy fish skin can be passed on, the novelty is lost after a few pieces. The fish itself is tender and it comes with a lot of sauerkraut. However, despite the amount of peppercorns and chili peppers, it didn't have much of a kick and was more sour. Next time, I will need to get a higher spice level than medium.

I've gone to B2J multiple times with various friends and we've loved the experience every time! The soup is so filling with your choice of fish, beef, or both and then any additional toppings. The spice is definitely a kick but the tomato soup option is also a good choice for a sweeter base. The appetizers that we've tried are the fried chinese buns, fried dough sticks, and pork belly which are all great. Their new crispy fish skin was extremely crispy and a bit oily but delicious when dunked in the soup. The service is pretty prompt and the employees are always so happy and eager to greet you! The best part of the meal is the mochi dessert that you can get at the end which is the most refreshing way to end a delicious meal.

Everything tasted amazing, huge portions, will definitely be back to try other things on the menu!

Had the other great night at this cute spot, and the spicy fish dish goes well with the semi-sweet white wine I brought. The service is as friendly as always and I look forward to coming back again soon :)

The food comes out lightning fast. Everything is very reasonably priced. Best of all, it's all delicious. I tried stuff outside of my comfort zone and I loved it all. My favorite were the pork juicy buns (soup dumplings) but the most unique thing was the pan fried noodle which was like a crispy deep fried noodle that would soften as it sat in the sauce. The golden lava buns were sweet and rich and perfect for dessert.

We were second standing outdoors waiting in this big fat long line. Immediately upon opening for the day the line nearly forced entry near stampede and this cafe was immediately packed to full occupancy of patrons with free seating. The Yelp reviews are accurate and truthful. The food is great. This is a small cafe with only approximately eight tables. I do not recommend large parties of five and greater. It is no-frills, but not exactly "hole in the wall" type that lack in aesthetics for upscale lavish atmosphere but the deficiency is resolved in the food quality. There is one sole functioning restroom in the whole business, ergo, stand in line and wait. We entered hungry in a lugubrious sense of deep sorrow, but exited hunger pangs fulfilled. When exiting upon completion of our lunch meal, there was a line that quickly formed outdoors waiting. Unfortunately, access to this cafe in Edison, NJ is by car only and there is a free parking lot that is shared with neighboring businesses located in a small shopping complex. There are no business cards, and no takeout menus available. Customer service is efficient as the staff worked methodically hustling busy to take orders and fulfillment. Our male waiter was attentive to respond to our inquiries and make suggestions based on our desires. I was able to keep the sales receipt. Price is in the rationale realm of stagflation totaling $41.75. Nota Bene: No table hibernation as the table turnover is fast pace with a line overflowing outdoors which cannot interrupt the flow. My foodie synopsis: Pork steam soup dumplings, 6 pcs, siu2 lung4 baau1, 小籠包, $8.75 Very juicy, flavorful and great. It was served piping hot. This is my favorite default dish for every visit at any Shanghainese ethnic cuisine. However, there were no serving tongs provided for this particular appetizer which is industry standard. Preserved cabbage with pork noodle soup, syut3 coi3 juk6 si1 min6, 雪菜肉絲麵 $9.50 This is a satisfying Chinese comfort food. This noodle soup was abundant with noodles, pork and chopped vegetables. It provided warmth to my very broken heart. Shanghai chicken in wine sauce, zeoi3 gai1, 醉雞, $8.95 A traditional Chinese cold appetizer, aka Chinese Drunken chicken made with Chinese Shaoxing cooking wine. It has amazing flavor and texture to be deliciously enticing. Of course, the cooking wine brings flavor to this appetizer making you want more. Shanghai pan fried U-Don noodle, soeng6 hoi2 cou1 caau2 min6, 上海粗炒面, $11.95 Abundant noodles with good consistency and it not heavily filled with grease and oil.

We ordered the spicy pork dumplings and sautéed string beans to start. Both were very good. The broth inside the dumpling is very spicy and absolutely delicious. If you like spicy things, these will warm you up. We also ordered mapo tofu and noodles with pork. The tofu was extremely soft and melts in your mouth. Good flavor in this dish. The noodles were very good too, however they were not as spicy as advertised. The server warned me and I told her I love spicy things (I devoured the dumplings), so I really hope the noodles are spicy too. They weren't, however they were still very good. (I took leftovers home and added my own spice to them.) I've been here twice. The hostess saw this and asked if we moved the table and told us not to do that... After we told her why we moved the table she said no don't do that. Odd... but ok. We got the pork sticky rice shumai, pork in garlic sauce over rice, sautéed string beans and pepper corn chicken. Shumai was ok. The pork in garlic sauce had way too much sauce and was a tad sweet for our liking; it was drowning in sauce. The strings and pepper corn chicken were very good. Both had a slight touch of heat. I wish we ordered differently but overall the food was ok. Our server was very nice and attentive. We're debating coming back to try more of the menu but with so many Asian/Chinese restaurants to try in Edison, I think we'd try someplace else.

Although not easy to find on the tail end of a nondescript commercial strip, we saw its sign and walked in to a decent sized dining room with a half dozen booths along one wall and about a dozen tables spread across the remainder. Plenty of original watercolors displayed and for sale on the walls. David the proprietor seemed to be handling most of the operation himself. He sat us, took our order, disappeared into the kitchen to participate in its preparation and served our four courses to us in traditional style - separately as ready. The food was excellent. We chose from both the lunch and regular menu, which were integrated seamlessly. Fried Pork Chop, Crispy Fried Intestine, Fish Fillets in Chili Sauce from the mains, and Orange Beef from the lunch list. I started with Hot &Sour Soup, which was flavorful and loaded with tofu, sprouts, pork slivers and potent vinegar. Loved it! The Pork Chop was deboned and pressed thin. The result was a crisp sliced Katsu-like cutlet with nice flavor and long crunchy chew. The Intestine was also crisp and filled with green beans that mixed well with the hardened shell and soft innards. Not my fave, but my lovely partner ate it enthusiastically. The Fish and Chili was very good, with tender lightly breaded white fish fillets and red chili sauce that included small pieces of celery, sprouts and cabbage, in a large bowl. Finally, the lunch sized Orange Beef was delicious with sweet and spicy amber sauce coating the pieces of lightly crisped beef. Ubiquitous broccoli sprigs added color to the dish. Service was friendly and accommodating. David was happy to interact and talk about his business there. Red Onion is a Five Star keeper.
