My daughter and I ate here last night before a show at the Count Basie Theatre. It was sad we were the only ones in the restaurant on a Friday night. The restaurant is a BYOB and empty. I don't understand because,,,, The restaurant is beautiful inside. The owner, hostess is such a sweet woman. The waitress was sweet and the food was delicious. For appetizers we shared the fried spring rolls, and Tom Yum soup. The rolls were light and crispy with great taste. The soup was so so delicious. The depth of flavor with the broth was incredible. Only complaint would be to cut the vegetables smaller so they fit on the spoon. I could eat the broth alone it was so good. For entrees we had the Shrimp and Pork Pad Thai. Some of the best Pad Thai I've had. My daughter had the Thai ice coffee which she said was really good. I hope the restaurant makes it. I'd definitely come back when in Red Bank. Came here last Saturday for dinner. Although the sign was lit up and said open and the listing said it should be open during its dinner hours, the doors appeared shuttered. Either this place is no longer in business or it is quite disappointing that it is not open when it should be by all signs. read more

This is the most expensive Thai restaurant we've been to. Made the mistake of not looking at the prices before visiting and only judging by photos. For 2 entrees, 1 soup appetizer, and a Thai iced tea - the bill came to $85. With tip and paying by cash, it ended up being $100 for below average food. Crazy! They also add a 4% surcharge for credit cards on top of their already ridiculous prices. One can only imagine their rent must be off the charts. Tamarind duck $45 - the duck was sooo dry and barely had much meat with each piece. Mostly bone. A lot of mixed veggies. I had so much better duck at Chinese super markets. This must be old, frozen duck and a dish that doesn't get ordered that frequently. Tom yum noodle soup $20 - literally just soup with 4 pieces of large shrimp and pad thai noodles. Lacking veggies and no other toppings to balance the dish out. Thai iced tea $6 Tom kha gai soup appetizer $9 The service was ok- was asked multiple times how we were doing and the food came out at a decent time but holy cow! First time dining here. Food and service were good overall, except for one lamb dish I swapped for crispy duck. When the bill came, prices didn't match--crispy duck was $55 instead of the $45 listed online, and the "market price" seabass was $75. I felt that a few dishes were marked up to offset the price of the returned dish. No other Thai restaurant I've been to charges anywhere near that for seabass, especially in a casual setting. The food is very good, however, they seem to have increased the prices a lot (inflation?). Additionally I was charged $3.5 on top of the bill....when I asked what was that extra charge they told me it was a credit card charge, are you kidding?? I love this place for Thai food. But I can't take the inconsistent hours. They are open randomly never answer the phone and the hours are always changing. It's such a shame because I love their food and the service is always good when we are there. But I can't t give a five star review to a place that's never open. read more

Sorry but going against the grain here. Both food and service here is marginal for sure. My opinion a 2 1/2 star dining experience at best, so I'm being kind rounding up for them. My wife asked for a dish they advertise on the menu but was told they could not make it because they could not make steamed rice. Have you ever been to an Asian restaurant that did not have steamed rice? Not me either! The salad and a fried rice dish that we split were both mediocre. Walking past the kitchen one could not help but notice the cook was not Asian nor was the lead food server. The waitress who was seemed rather clueless. Then looking at the menu, holly cow, main courses all $25.95 - way overpriced. Want a Thai iced tea, then pony up $5. How about a simple custard dessert for $12.50? On the plus side the only positive was the ambience, nice space. But, unfortunately that will not carry them very far. If they are to survive let alone thrive in Red Bank, they better take a serious look at their overall business model starting with their over the top pricing. One of the best pad thai dishes I've ever had. It was a large portion with the right amount of every ingredient. The flavor was outstanding, I wanted more and more. The spring rolls were tasty as well. Get all of these and another order to go home. The place was sparkling clean inside as I made my way to their restroom. A really great dinner spot! After a late event, I was really hungry but not in the mood for anything very heavy or unhealthy. So I turned turned to trusty Thai food. A Yelp search brought us here and I am so happy that it did. I got the Pad Thai with chicken and my mom got some sort of chicken/tofu stir fry with veggies in a coconut curry sauce. Wish I knew the actual name of the dish. It was SO good. I mean, my Pad Thai was great as well, but her dish was fantastic with just the appropriate amount of spice to it. It wasn't busy at all in the restaurant but I loved how nearly the entire restaurant was covered in fresh flowers. It was such a lovely little touch. Our waitress was so kind and when we asked about the menu, she gave plenty of suggestions. This place is more expensive than your typical take out Thai, but you are getting a much bigger portion (we both had left overs) ((I took both of our leftovers for myself)) the food is spectacular, and like I've said, the ambiance and service is fantastic. Got the tom yum soup hotpot with chicken, seafood and veggies! It was delicious and the broth was just perfect with amazing flavors! I would definitely go back just to get some soup! SOOOO YUMMY. It says closed on Yelp but it is most definitely not, the hostess greeted us with open arms. The quality of the food was so authentic, fresh, and savory. The soup in the hot pot was so perfect to share with a group of people and the waitress even brought over extra spices to add to the soup right when we asked. The portions were very large and the staff presented themselves excellently! Also loved the location, being right on broad street at a relatively cheaper restaurant made us feel like we never need to go to a super expensive and busy place on this strip again. Lovely restaurant, it's super authentic and run by nice people. The Thai food has so much flavor that you may be overwhelmed if you're used to more bland foods. The staff are very accommodating and genuinely show care for the quality of your meal. We came and had the mussel appetizer which was more soup based than I expected. It was tart with the tamarind flavors. The mussels were fresh and completely free of sand. The veggies were crisp but cooked. We orders the pad Thai and the pad see ew against my idea to split a plate. The portion sizes were very healthy. We didn't put a dent in either plates before asking for boxes but it was delicious. The pad Thai was sweet , salty , and savory all at the same time . Perfect. So portion size to price it made sense for 18 dollars for a pad Thai. What a joy to get real Thai! We have been to Malaysia and are always trying to recapture the taste and aroma of the that area. We arrived at 5:30 on a Saturday and it was not crowded. When we left, it was packed! We brought a blush wine with us, I always feel it just works with Thai. We started with Spring Roll-with plum sauce ... crunchy, clean taste and perfect! The plum sauce had added spice, probably the Baan Khun chili paste. They could sell this stuff! The Tom Ka Gai- galangal, lemongrass, cilantro, mushrooms and lime juice with vegetables was very aromatic. The spice had a deep, hot and pleasing bite however it quickly dissipated. The broth was a complex and rich experience you savored with every spoonful not to mention it was very pleasing to the eye. Thank you. We were enjoying this very much and reminiscing about Kuala Lumpur... The delivery of our entree made us smile. I had the Ginger with cashews, bell peppers, carrots, baby corn, broccoli, mushrooms, celery, onions and scallions with homemade chili paste and basil garlic sauce with vegetarian duck. Yes vegetarian duck. Tofu made to look like, textured like, crisp like and taste like duck. Delicious! As I made room in my dish I added the rice to soak up every morsel of this experience... Spouse had #42(the meaning of life) Salmon Pha Char (fried salmon) Onion, bell peppers, string beans, carrots, Chinese celery, kuchai, basil, pepper corn, cashew nuts, lime leaves with jungle curry. The salmon was perfect, the veggies crisp, and was a spicy smorgasbord of textures and aroma. It was wonderful! Thank you all. If you like mango and sweet rice then you have to try Baan Khun's Mango & warm Coconut Sticky Rice for dessert. I would rate the pricing at a $$. A great experience. The atmosphere is authentic and that he service was quick and friendly. I had the beef noodle soup and it was perfection. It's a large portion and very flavorful. After the closing of Siam Garden, my wife and I came here to fill our Thai appetite. Pleasantly surprised with this spot in the middle of Broad st. The food was excellent! My wife normally gets the Pad Thai and I normally get the Penang Curry. Both were excellent and were actually the best rendition of the dishes we have ever experienced. Their shrimp summer rolls are also very good. Super fresh and very light. They aren't normally very busy and that might be because their sign is very inconspicuous. We drove 30 minutes to try this Thai place as we heard good things about the restaurant. When placing an order for take out, I checked four times on the phone all our items (3 pad thais and 1 spring roll) were on the order, since the man missed 1 of them the first time he recounted the order. Of course, after driving for an hour, we came home to realize one of the pad thais were missing. We called the restaurant to let them know about the mistake, and they offered no form of compensation or excuse for their mistake. We had to wind up cooking something ourselves. As for the food itself, it is good but definitely not worth the price. Medium sized portions (smaller than other places that are cheaper nearby). Our "vegetable" pad thai had no vegetables except for green onions (not even bean sprouts). This new Thai/Vietnamese is charming, with an eager-to-please waitstaff, delicious food presented beautifully and the complex tastes you expect from those cuisines. Baan Khun is a worthy successor to Pho Le, which closed due to retirement in the past year. I can't say enough for the waitstaff - they were attentive, eager to explain and worried that we might over-indulge in the heat of some of the dishes.
