The food took way too long to come out we were sitting for about 30 minutes waiting for the food. There were kind and polite about it, but still that was just way too long. It's been a while (2 years) but still pretty darn good. I tried a special - Mexican breakfast bowl that was enormous and delicious. Scrambled eggs, black beans, chorizo on a large tortilla with guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream. Two cups of coffee and an hour later, I needed a nap. I've been wanting to come here for a LONG time. We finally made it here for brunch. Hubs ordered the Original California Omelette, which consisted of spinach, sun dried tomatoes , avocado and Monterey Jack cheese. He substituted Swiss cheese, instead. The omelette was huge, fluffy and loaded with vegetables. Hubs thought this was a great start and said that the potatoes were nice and browned. He loved it but thought it could use onions. A lot of times he feels other place undercook their potatoes. Daughter ordered corned beef hash and eggs and liked it a lot. She said she liked how they put the eggs on top of the hash. This way, the egg yolks ran on top of the hash. LOL. She also ordered ice coffee and liked it a lot. Lastly, I got the two eggs over easy and liked it a lot. This is usually my go to for breakfast. I used to come here all the time, not minding the service that left much to be desired... not bringing water unless you asked, kinda not being attentive, making comments like "you can't charge your device here" (I happened to had bring a portable charger), not allowing you to spread out in a table (in case it fills up... even though it's 2pm and the whole restaurant is empty.) because it had this homey feel, because I loved the food, because the people were nice (even though their social graces were pretty nonexistent). Ah, The Inbetween Cafe, I love you so! Another local haunt that I would frequent quite often. The food here is incredible! I am a huge breakfast / brunch fan and this is the place to go. They always have amazing specials from omelettes to crepes to french toast, there is something for everyone on the special menu. If you are looking for something a little more typical, they have that too. The Inbetween makes an excellent pork roll sandwich and their home fries are perfection - add a little Frank's hot sauce and you are ready to go. I usually lean towards their crepe special. This time around I had a fresh blueberry crepe with homemade granola and yogurt. It was amazing as usual! They always top the crepe with caramelized sugar, so just be warned in case you aren't into something that sweet. The place is small, cash only, and the tables are communal so if you go on the weekend be prepared for a packed restaurant. On the weekends I'll usually sit at the "bar" area, but be warned if you sit by the sink / dish washing station, you may be splashed. Also, I've had different experiences based on the server I get, but in the end, the food is always top notch so it doesn't really matter. If you can stop by on a weekday I'd recommend it, but if not, the food is always worth the wait! I miss living in the area and stopping by the Inbetween regularly. read more

Despite the reviews, I decided to come in to pick up a sandwich for lunch. Much to my chagrin, this place only takes cash or checks!The area is Red Bank! There are not too many cash only restaurants in the area. Conveniently there's a shady looking ATM placed next to the register counter. The Inbetween Cafe was somewhat busy for breakfast. It has a diner feel to it. The place looked a little eclectic and old. There's seating at the counter on barstools, or table seating. A friendly male employee greeted me and told me about the specials and gave me some suggestions. The menu had many interesting breakfast choices but I ultimately ordered a Pastrami sandwich. I ordered it on rye with sauerkraut and Russian dressing. It tasted pretty good! The negatives were the sandwich didn't have that much meat on it and it was expensive. Also, juices of sauerkraut soaked through one side of my rye sandwich bread, so I was not holding onto a dry sandwich when eating. With this positive experience, I wouldn't mind coming back to try the breakfast or lunch if in the area. read more

We were immediately served coffee while we took a few minutes to look over the menu. The chili was fantastic and complimented the eggs well. There was avocado inside which was a nice touch!
