Her head massage while shampooing your hair is really quite fantastic, and it seemed almost effortless with how quickly she cut through my heavy, way-too-long locks. My hair is the length I wanted it to be, my layers are beautiful, and she even gave me tips on how to style my hair at home. Can I also mention her price for a hair cut is super reasonable too?! Well, I wish I had a better story to tell. I'd had all over color done from another salon and decided that I wanted to get some highlights done. I made an appointment with Meegan, who was very nice and friendly. It took a couple of hours and at the end, I had foils that were too close together and not toned for long enough. My hair ended up looking gray'ish. It's partially my fault for not paying attention and telling her what I wanted. But hearing, "Are you going gray?" from my friends and family is not something I want to hear. I was disappointed because I'd read such glowing reviews here. Oh well, hit or miss I guess. read more

I started going on a yelp recommendation, and couldn't be happier! Have seen Donna Jean 3 times now and highly recommend her. I have had highlights 3 times, and every time have said things like "just keep me in the dark blond family". She does AMAZING color, and I always get rave compliments. I also was very happy with the cut--she took just enough off to take off dead ends but left me with plenty of length while I am trying to grow it out. Last time I went, 2 1/2 months since the previous color, she even commented I could have waited longer. (Really...a hairstylist who doesn't try to get you in every 6 weeks?!) Prices are great, it only takes a week or less to get an appointment, parking is easy...what's not to love? read more

I came to Babalouise to follow my stylist Crystal who has been doing my hair for SEVEN YEARS! She is absolutely a gem. I went to her first at the gene juarez hair academy while i was a broke high school student. I have VERY curly mixed chick hair and she has always given me the best flat iron of my life. Over time we have had a lot of fun with my hair. Auburn, bleached blonde, subtle ombre. On my most recent visit she gave me a Brazilian blowout and hair cut. Ohmigod you guys i am a believer my hair has never been more manageable in my entire life. I usually wear my hair straight and to flat iron it myself usually takes 2 hours (seriously...not joking. no haha jks here) Since the blowout i'm wet hair to straight haired goddess in 45 minutes flat. The first time after the Brazilian and doing my hair myself I was shocked. I thought I might have messed up counting time but i've now washed blow dried and flat ironed 3 times all in around 45 minutes each. So besides crystal being a dream stylist to work with the space is so comfortable and chic. It feels so luxurious but homey at the same time. Hair cuts are good especially funky short hair styles. Prices are average for hair cuts and depend on the stylists experience. But this place REALLY excels at hair coloring which they do at great prices for awesome and consistent results. Salon hours are good, especially if you are looking for a place that can accommodate evening hours like 7 or 8pm, and they never rush! It's definitely worth the drive from the eastside. read more

I want to write the raviest rave review ever for this place. I love everything about it. Lara has been doing my hair for years, and every one of my friends sees her too. We don't even all have the same haircut. I think Lara can pull off just about anything. She does my cuts and color, and is good with being adventurous when I'm feeling like I need a change. I have heard other people say their stylists don't listen to them, but I feel like Lara's always on the same page. Also, my haircuts tend to grow out well, so I don't have to get it cut too often. And free bang trims! Someone else commented that they think the salon dog is a problem, but I just don't see it. I have never heard that dog bark once- she mostly just naps under the table. She's not super social, and she's not one of those dogs that needs lots of attention from everyone who walks in the door. If you're not a dog person, I would think you could just ignore her. I have also seen Mireille for waxing a few times and I highly recommend her. She's good at doing the talking-while-ripping-hair-out thing, which is nice and distracting. The room is comfortable, clean, quiet and private. I don't know what else I would ask for. I also love the receptionists, the music they play, the art they constantly rotate, and the parking availability. I'm kind of in love with BaBa Louise. read more

I drove quite a way to try this place based solely on Yelp reviews. I just wanted a foil and cut and I'm awful at explaining exactly what I like/want. I didn't expect fancy thanks to what I've read here. I did know I wanted someone with experience and that's what I got. Traci was really good at making conversation, which I think is an art in itself AND did a good job on my hair. My color looks really natural. I haven't gotten to "know" my cut very well as I haven't washed it yet, but it looks good. I should probably update this later once I spend more time with my hair. :) read more

I'm sure all the girls at Babalouise are great, but this review is specific for Diane H. She is so consistent, and is one of those stylists who takes into account what you would like to do with your hair-- with that said, if you bring a picture of a thick curly bob, and your hair is thin and moderately wavy, she'll tell you that she could give you that haircut, but with fair warning that the same haircut will not look the same on you. But she always takes into consideration what YOU want. After the first time she cut my hair a friend of mine (a male friend!) said "Your hair looks awesome, it's so perfect it almost looks like a wig!". From that point on I've never been to anyone else. She also makes it clear that if I were unhappy with anything (even though I never have been) that I could come back in and she would make any adjustments. She's great company while she's cutting, and never cuts off any more than we talk about from the start. If you're looking for a great girls cut, you can't go wrong-- she can do funky, or conservative-- and boys, my boyfriend is who introduced me to her, and he's started losing his hair these last few years and swears by her haircuts (and her scalp massaging). So I typically go to Dave for everything, but he recently had a baby! So for my prom updo he recommended Gretchen and I must say that she was AMAZING. She listened to exactly what I wanted and even had me email her some pictures the week before. When I got there, she was super friendly and excited. She took all of 30 minutes to do a fabulous job and I couldn't have been happier. She's also just a really fun and sweet person, and I'm usually very shy around a lot of people. I really enjoyed my BaBaLouise experience - Eunice was helpful and kept me nearly an hour longer than the originally scheduled time to make sure I got my cut and color exactly the way that I wanted it. I do have thinning hair and she was receptive in listening to the way that I wanted it cut and styled. I like the partial foil I got, as well as the cut (it could have gone a little shorter, which I'll probably ask for next time - I didn't mention the length to Eunice, as I had another appointment, but I know she'd have made sure it was exactly the length I wanted it if I'd asked). I love the cut I just got. They always do an exceptional job which I sometimes forget and then try out a new place or go to one of the beauty schools. The stylists listen to what I want and give me what I want, and do so happily. Bonus - there is no "up-sell" for other services and best of all, no product push! I have been to so many stylists in the area and it's really hard to find someone who can cut and color. I have fine (mostly limp), blonde hair and Lara is an expert at both coloring and cutting my hair. I can't believe how good she has made it look, from the layers to the perfect color, and they both grow out exceptionally well, the layers just seem to get longer but still hold the style and the color never looks dull or brassy and it's blended so well that I never have a line. I don't know how she does it but I can't recommend her enough, she is truly talented and I'm so lucky I found her! She also has a very sweet salon dog, Zoe! read more

While there are great reviews for Babalouise, I left with a slightly crooked hair cut. I can tell that the front sides of my shoulder length hair do not match, but I did not go back to have them correct it. So it wasn't bad enough to complain, but I'm not going back there either. Plus for a layer cut I paid $40. I think I can get a better cut for that price. read more

I got my hair color/cut done by Crystal S. who I've been to on and off for several years. Normally she does pretty good, not great (as the color I ask for usually ends up in some way not what I asked for), but but this time I was horrified by the result. My hair was already pretty light, but I wanted to go more platinum and get some low-lights for contrast. Everything was going fine until my scalp started to burn intensely after she put the bleach on. It was not unlike the feeling of putting your bare hand on a hot range coil. I went to her in the break room immediately and told her and she said it was 'normal' and wanted to leave it on a little longer. I was worried and in pain, but decided to trust her. To speed forward, we got through our whole appointment and I noticed, aside from my scalp hurting, that my hair seemed very dull and greyish. I wasn't sure if it was the lighting and I was exhausted from 4 hours in the chair, so I just left. When I got home I put my fingers in my hair to find that my scalp was scabbed and oozing clear stuff. After a good cry I decided to reach out to Crystal to tell her what happened. I told her the low-lights that she incorrectly "matched" to my root color made my platinum hair look dull and grey and that I had chemical burns all over my scalp. She ignored my message despite FB telling me she read it. A day went by and I sent her a follow-up. No response. Apparently she has no intention of taking any responsibility for what happened, nor even attempting to help me fix this. I guess I will just have to ignore the fact that I wasted $130 going to her and find a stylist who knows what they are doing and is willing to help if things don't go as planned... I hate having to leave this bad review, but I just have to express how displeased I am. read more

it had been a longtime since i had a hair cut and i was excited to look fresh and sharp. a friend recommended babalouise and heather. i didnt want to wait for an appointment so i just went, and really lucked out by finding heather available relatively soon, when i arrived. she greeted me right away, and told me she would be with me in just a few minutes. i dont know how to describe what i want in my hair and felt awkward. heather was great. she asked me questions that were simple but in a way that i surprisingly found myself describing what my expectations and wants were. she made it seem much easier than i anticipated. heather listened really well and explained some things about my hair type and confirmed with me what i had described which was comforting. it was clear that she was interested in the details and making it happen for me. im not a picky-hair-guy and have always shrugged-off not so great haircuts in the past. after visiting heather, i have a new respect for a great haircut and standards have been raised. she was wonderful, patient, and gave me a fantastic cut. it was as if its just the way its done with her. she's very professional and a really nice girl too. thanks babalouise and thank you, heather. i cant help but look for my reflection now and then and that feels great! read more

I hate giving negative reviews and rarely do it, but I felt that the good people of Seattle should know how this salon rates in comparison to the gazillion others with 4-5 star reviews. I wanted a cheaper place than my usual ($40-50 base at most, $35 here) but knew I needed something quality because of my uncontrollable, semi-frizzy, semi-curly, very thick hair with an identity crisis. Sadly, this 'do just didn't cut it - literally. To be fair, I didn't have the best idea of what I wanted - but it was obvious that having not cut my long hair in several months, I desperately needed a trim and to rid myself of split ends. I briefly lamented to the hairdresser, Sam (female), that I did enjoy the look of longer hair but that my hair is too crazy and thick to be super long. I mentioned that it had been getting harder and harder to comb through, even in the shower, because it tangled so easily at the current length. Yet I somehow walked out of there feeling as though I had paid for an invisible haircut - she cut almost nothing off. Presumably, this is because I mentioned that I liked the look of longer hair, but she obviously didn't hear the rest of what I was saying. Plus, I commented as she was cutting - AND after she finished - that she really could take more off than that. Maybe she was too busy; maybe she would have fixed it if I had called and complained. All I know is that I didn't have time to make a return trip and I would be in the wilderness, miles from the nearest salon, for the next 3 months. So I really had needed a legitimate haircut. Upon returning to Seattle 3 months later with a veritable rats nest on my head because of the ongoing split ends and too-long tresses left by Babalouise, I was ready to find a salon that honored my wishes while recognizing glaring necessities in a good cut, regardless of their interpretation of my wishes - e.g. getting rid of split ends by taking off more than a half inch. I visited The Parlor and Mya (stylist) instead and went away very happy. The Parlor is the 4th or 5th salon I've tried, and I think it will be a keeper. Sorry, Babalouise and Sam - you were very nice and I liked the slightly cheaper price, but it isn't worth it if you didn't actually get a haircut and weren't really heard by your stylist. read more

Quirky and lovely beauty professionals work here. I started seeing Crystal when a friend suggested her - another stylist had ruined my color days before. She is fantastic! I get compliments on my color about once a week now. I never feel like she's trying to rush our appointment or cutting corners. I had a horrible experience at BaBaLouise. I had read the reviews on Yelp and thought I'd give it a try since it seemed like I would get a salon experience for a more affordable price. Holly, a new stylist, gave me my cut and color. After she had finished my foils and was about to rinse my hair, she got nervous while looking into my foils and had another stylist come over. That obviously made me nervous. Then the other woman told her she needed to use some toner on me, which I've never had before, and Holly had to ask her how to do it. Then when she was cutting my hair, she didn't do what I asked for and the way she was cutting made it look like she had never cut hair before, it made me very nervous. I got home and one side was a full inch longer than the other side, and I had to correct it myself. I will never go back there. I'm sure Holly is a wonderful person, but i would never let her touch my hair again. Just be careful with which stylist you choose, they have some inexperienced people and so it's a risk. read more
