Jaylin has been doing my balayage for years and she's honestly so good at it. I originally found her on Instagram because her balayage photos kept catching my eye. The color always looked so natural and bright, not stripey or overdone like you see sometimes. I finally booked with her and I'm so glad I did. I have really dark, thick hair which I know can be tricky to lighten, but somehow Jaylin nails it every time. My color always turns out good and the blend is so soft. It grows out really nice too so I'm not rushing back in a panic when my roots start coming in. She just really understands how to work with darker hair and you can tell she takes pride in what she's doing. If you're looking for someone who's actually amazing at balayage, Jaylin is definitley your girl. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair. read more

Girls if you have dark hair and are looking for a bronde balayage, I would run away from here. Don't waste your time or money. Only adding a star because the haircut by another stylist was fantastic. I've been getting my hair colored for over 20 years, and this was by far the worst experience I've had in both results and professionalism. I had an appointment with Jaylin and came prepared (for both the initial and correction sessions) with inspiration photos, explaining that I wanted a bright, high-contrast balayage on dark hair. Because I know stylists define 'balayage' differently, I explicitly mentioned both during booking and in the chair that my previous stylists have always added foils to achieve this look, noting that my hair lifts fast with them. Jaylin opted for open-air painting instead of including foils, citing a preference to 'avoid foil creases.' Unfortunately, this technique failed to lift my dark hair sufficiently, leaving me with a muddy light brown and strong orange undertones --completely different from what I asked for. I returned for a correction (after rearranging my work schedule), only to be told that the look I wanted is not something she offers. Jaylin stated that she and the other colorist only perform hand-painted balayage, but as anyone with dark hair knows, foils are typically required to reach that level of brightness. If the salon only specializes one specific (and subtle) technique, this appointment should never have been booked. It would have saved everyones time and set expectations While I was refunded for the service, the tip was not returned. To further highlight the lack of professionalism, the stylist walked out mid-conversation when I asked what had been used in my hair, as I would need that information for another stylist to avoid potential damage. This happened while the front desk was still processing my refund. Overall, a disaster experience and not the level of professionalism I expected. read more

I moved to Seattle from LA so I had high hopes and high standards for not only cut & color. After a ton of back and forth with the salon, showing how my hair was colored & styled by an excellent stylist in LA, I got an appointment. I was surprised that the same person wouldn't be doing both my highlights & cut but gave it a chance. Wow ... what a mistake. Color was meh ... by Morgan. What was shocking was that Sevin who did the cut never saw my hair before it was wet and colored. She had no clue how it looked dry or where it normally parted. Not to mention, she had no interest in listening. When I said layers or pieces cut in for volume- she blunt cut across the top. My hair has never looked so unhealthy, flat and limp. Adding insult to injury, you tip on both vs one essentially doubling your cost. Unreal. When you tip both 20% vs 1 tip for one all over service- it definitely increases your overall service cost. Found a new stylist who elsewhere who did both cut and color and confirmed what I knew - the cut was blunt and haphazard. And the color - choppy and grew out badly. Maybe good for some but definitely one of those places more interested in their bottom line vs a happy client. I hated this cut / color for 4 months and now that I found something new, I finally feel like I found what was missing. To pay a lot and be unsure for months just isn't for me. read more

I was recommended this salon by a friend and went for a trim and to find a new salon in Seattle since moving here. Because I was new to town, i didn't request a specific stylist and took the next available. My mistake, everyone else seemed great but my stylist seemed very inexperienced. Her haircut was pretty straightforward, basically straight across, but the blow dry was really frizzy and definitely didn't give the "blown out look" I was hoping for. She didn't say anything the whole time, so it was an awkward 44 min of sitting in silence even when I tried to make conversation. when I went up to the counter to pay they requested an additional fee because my medium hair was "too thick" (shoulder length trim). This was never mentioned to me during the entire appointment. The cost was pretty high for a "straight across" kind of cut, especially with the surprise fee. I won't be going back, but as I was leaving there were some really beautiful hairstyles around the room being done by other stylists, so I can believe others have had a good experience at this salon. read more

I had an amazing first visit at Fringe. The salon is bright, beautiful, and welcoming. I was kindly greeted by the host who offered a variety of beverages. My hair was colored by Holly & cut by Chloe. They both exceeded my expectations and met my hair inspiration to a T! It was time to go back to my natural hair color & start the summer with a shorter cut. I felt so well taken care of by their attentive & caring service. Colour by Morgan, cut by Justine. Colour was good and exactly what I asked for. Cut was the opposite of what I asked for. I asked for (and showed pictures of) lots of feathery layers around the face, shorter layers at the back for volume, and to preserve length. I specifically asked to avoid a blunt cut. I got some face framing layers at the front, but the rest has almost no layering and feels heavy. The hair at the back was cut much shorter to match the length of the front, which is unfortunate because it took a long time to grow out. I will go back but try a different stylist for the cut. read more

I was quite disappointed with my haircut after reading all the positive reviews and having high expectations. To be clear, my stylist was lovely and sweet so I feel bad about writing this review but I still have to give my honest feedback. I paid $100 + tip on my haircut and I honestly can't tell much of a difference from the before and after. I asked for framing around my face, side bangs, and something on the bottom that was not straight and boring. She delivered on the side bangs but nothing else. She basically cut off an inch of my hair and like maybe 5 strands of hair around my face for framing. I asked her for more and she cut off 5 more strands.... I wanted more but I couldn't bring myself to ask again because she seemed so happy with what she did. Again, she was really nice and since she was so excited with her work, I just did not have the heart to tell her how much I really did not like it. The cut was just so....Basic and boring. I know there is a lot of stylists at Fringe and maybe I just picked the wrong one. read more

I see the talented Holly Bayliss for a partial foil every 3 months. She's always warm and welcoming and does beautiful work with my long straight blonde hair. I highly recommend her! Even though I go in sweats and no make up when I leave the salon I look and feel fantastic! I'm lucky I haven't crashed my car while I admire myself in my rearview mirror on the way home. Holly is at Fringe Salon in the Greenlake neighborhood near the PCC grocery store. Fringe is quite a find. I've seen several stylists at Fringe and they clearly have a high standard for talent. I love the cool and comfy city vibe too. One of my other favorite things about Fringe is there's a parking garage underneath the salon so I never have to worry about parallel parking on the street. read more

I wish I could give Fringe and Jazmine in particular a 10-star review; the salon and Jazmine are that amazing. I have had my hair lighted for more years than some of the readers of this review have been alive. Sometimes, the end result was "okay", sometimes the end result approached "good" and on a couple of occasions "disaster" was the end result. My hair was never "perfect". No matter the fanciness of the salon, the reputation of the colorist, the cost for the work, my hair was never in my opinion "perfect". That was the case until January 21st when Jazmine did my highlights. On that day in the Fringe salon, my hair became "perfect". Jazmine made my hair "perfect". To be clear, my Fringe rating began long before I ever stepped foot in Fringe salon. I called for a stylist recommendation and the person who helped me was both accommodating and incredibly helpful. And I will be forever grateful for her recommending Jazmine! Then I stepped into Fringe, and I immediately felt welcomed and comfortable. The salon itself is both elegant and well-designed. It is designed in such a way that you and your stylist have a sperate space to discuss your hair hopes and dreams. And in that same private space make your hair color wishes become a reality. As we talked, Jazmine moved my hair around and discussed my color goals. Throughout this process, I could tell Jazmine was making a long-term plan for my color wishes. Then, she announced "I think you need some low lights". I told her she should do what she wanted to do with my color. The end result was "perfect". My quest for "perfect" hair had ended. Even my partner said, "your hair is gorgeous; how did you do that?" My BFF said, "your hair is gorgeous; I hate you". And then we laughed, and I gave her Jazmine's info. The thing I like most about Jazmine is that she listens; really listens to your vision/desire for your hair. She does not inject with her opinions about your hair's condition or what cannot be done for your hair. In a word, she makes the magic happen. Jazmine is that amazing and that kind and respectful. She is the real deal! The entire Fringe experience was perfect. No one tried to load me up with product, everyone was professional and kind and through it all, I felt respected and listened to. I thought about writing this review for a long time, but feel like some of the constructive feedback here gets lost and think it's important to see both types of experiences. Fringe is a beautiful salon, great location and some of the stylists like Holly are sweethearts. However twice I came here for color treatments and cuts and had them done wrong. Once my highlights didn't achieve the color I had asked for so I had to come back for another 3 hour treatment. My more recent hair cut was NOT what I asked for. The stylists seems rushed (maybe overbooked) and did not provide me the cut I requested. They had me stand for my cut, and didn't give me the layers I wanted andddd did not style my hair. For the cost I expected better. I reached out to the studio they did offer to redo it but I needed time for my hair to grow back out, after several times suggested I let them know they didn't work for me and asked for a refund I was told I could get it but never book again. I know a lot of people have good experiences and wish I could say this too, but the inconsistencies won't work and I guess now I'm black listed. I'm struggling having my hair grow back to a place I can get it cut for what I wanted. read more

Laura is amazing! This was my second cut at Fringe with Laura since I moved to Seattle from NYC. Laura listened to all my hopes and aspirations for my hair and did a fantastic job. She's very kind, patient, and meticulous at her craft. Additionally, the ambiance at Fringe is 10/10. It's sleek and relaxing. There's delicious cold and hot beverages available and they use the best products--Oribe, Kerastase, etc. I'll definitely be back. Wow- I am speechless. I have never been so obsessed with my hair leaving a salon. And I have gotten SO MANY compliments in just 1 day. Kristina cut my hair first and made it look so healthy. Morgan did wonders. I showed her the idea/inspiration I was going for and she did it!! Morgan was easy to talk to, helped answer some questions I had about my hair, and recommended a few products (which I took home and love)!! I had a cut today with Laura and she did a really great job. She thinned out the back and gave me some nice layers. I felt bad asking her to cut it a couple inches shorter after she had finished, but she fixed it and it was exactly what I wanted. I'm taking a star off because it wasn't styled super well after the cut. I know waves/curls can be hard to style, so I don't blame her. I also got a headache from the shampoo she used on me and had to wash immediately when I got home. Next time I'll ask for something unscented or bring my own. I got a bad haircut a few weeks ago. maybe objectively, it was okay, but it wasn't what I asked for, and I lost a lot of length I had spent years growing, and the stylist didn't check in with me. I came to Fringe after checking some reviews. I reached out via text (their preferred contact) and explained my situation. they asked me to send some pictures of my hair and asked for what I wanted. so I want to start by saying how great that was. I felt so embarrassed about my hair, and they were so kind to me and non judgmental. based on what I asked for, they recommended two stylists, and I set up an appointment with James. James was amazing. again, he wasn't judgmental at all. He asked me about what I didn't like and what I wanted. I wasn't sure because I lost some confidence with my bad cut. He made some recommendations, and we decided to go with a blunt cut just below my shoulders What I really liked about my experience is that James told me what he would be doing and then talked me through it when he was doing it. He was kind and personable and made good conversation without talking my ear off. Ultimately, I just really love my haircut. The salon is beautiful, centrally located on Greenlake, and the staff are so friendly and keep the vibe super friendly (great communication via text). Kristina is so skilled with her craft and I always leave feeling pretty and cares for. The cuts are modern and up to date with the current styles and she always finds a way to flatter. I love Fringe and have been getting my hair cut by Shaitlo for so long I can't even remember. I don't know why I've never left a review before! Shaitlo recently obliged me by finally cutting off all the dark brown hair dye I'd been rocking for years to cover the gray, so I could embrace my normal hair color.
