Second time here this week. Earlier this week it was for a business lunch. It was so good I brought my wife back on Saturday for breakfast. The place is small and unassuming, don't let that fool you. There are not a lot of off street parking. There is on street parking. They have counter service and table service. We came for the corned beef and eggs. My wife got the breakfast burrito. We needed to find a new breakfast burrito location as the Halfmoon Sandwich shop is no longer. The corned beef was delicious. The egg burrito was also delicious. I had to share the corned beef with my wife. You must have the home made hot sauce! Coffee was good. I never had an empty cup. Best part is the staff. The owner are super friendly. The combination of good food, great service and friendly staff will earn me as a long term customer. We will be back. read more

My husband and I recently stopped in to Babes. We were greeted with a Smile and a friendly HELLO! The restaurant was very clean, specious, and had a nice variety on the menu! We were there for an early breakfast. The hot coffee kept coming. Both waitresses were very attentive and the food was quickly served nice and hot too! I was in town visiting family so, without knowing neighborhoods, searched for the closest breakfast place and found this gem with great reviews. Some of the homes in the immediate neighborhood are run down, but don't let that deter you. The place was bustling and we were greeted warmly by the smiling crew (which I'm assuming are the owners) and the scent of deliciousness. The coffee had that indescribable "diner" flavor that I've missed so much and they were so attentive keeping our cups full, which we appreciated before a long drive. I had a western omelette and it was seriously the best I've ever had in my life. My family laughed at me for saying that, until I made them try it; the contents were finely chopped and the egg had a light and delicate texture. They knocked it out of the park. Omelettes are easy to screw up. But the thing that really impressed me was the cleanliness! How many times have you reached for the salt only to see a horror show of bacteria and feel like you need to scrub your hands clean afterward? Not here. Attention to detail is apparent everywhere. Knowing how small Babe's is inside, I was a bit hesitant to dine in at Babe's Cafe. I am happy that they are social distancing and that staff were just as lovely as pre-pandemic. I enjoyed my lite breakfast (bacon egg and cheese on a hard roll) while SO enjoyed a cafe special with eggs, homefries, sausage and blueberry pancakes. Tried some home fries and they wrre perfect. Soft and delightful on the inside with a lovely crunchy exterior. He also got fried onions and peppers with his home fries. Was delish. Its on a small side street in Cohoes so parking is at a premium. Don't let that deter you. Go, enjoy. Nice people, good food and reasonable prices. read more

Nostalgia is a wonderful thing. Backnin Mt budding foodie past I grew up going to a local Cohoes institution known as the Golden Krust Bakery. The food was marvelous the servers had awesome personalities, and it was like a family. Well two of the servers branched out into their own endeavor Babe's Cafe. The twin sister owned establishment has become a fixture of Cohoes' daily life. Everything is made in the house down to the cold cuts and even the bread. The prices are very reasonable for food that is real quality food. The staff are kind and professional, and the space is clean. My Husband had a huge bacon and egg and cheese sandwich which he happily devoured and I had a plain Jane turkey sandwich on homemade white bread. It was so big that I couldn't finish it, with our beverages our check only came out to 26.00. read more

Walked in, immediately greeted with a smile. Walked out with a full belly & a smile! The bathroom was very well maintained. The twin sisters who own Babes are extremely genuine people. I promise no customer that sits down for service will ever have their coffee cup empty. We didn't come during the weekend for the corned beef has but it is highly recommended. Really great all around! It's on the smallish side, so you might have to wait a few minutes as we did. A full restaurant, however, is generally a sign of excellent food and service and Babe's didn't disappoint. Another diner said she had traveled across town for a particular dish while waiting. Another good sign. We enjoyed breakfast with our young kids and felt right at home. The kids completely ate the huge pancakes. My husband's omelet was huge - no scrimping on the add-ins. My breakfast was also great. Parking is easy, food is a huge hit and service makes you feel at home. Totally worth a visit!! read more

A friend and I came up to his neck of the woods in search of Pine Grosbeaks, an incredibly cool bird that only comes south, from the far north, only occasionally during food shortages. We saw seventeen of these birds in a neighboring community and while admiring the falls in Cohoes, I asked a local where two strangers could get a good breakfast. A quick reply, Babe's! A warm welcome. A table in a room to ourselves. Friendly owners. Working hard. Pancakes, a good omelette, great coffee. A wonderful oasis from the bitter cold outside. A few folks mentioned their hot sauce. I asked for some to take home. Delicious. i doubt I will be up this way again. But if I am, Babe's will definitely be on my itinerary. read more

The omelettes are fluffy and not drowned in grease. This is a cute hometown diner with good food. Home fries come with or without onions and green peppers, your choice! My mushroom and Swiss cheese omelette was good. Not too much cheese (you know how sometimes diners can overdo the cheese). I found that I can actually enjoy the egg part as well since it wasn't overrun with cheese or grease. The home fries were cooked just right (I opted for the onions and green peppers which were cooked just right too!). Complete with hot coffee and friendly service, breakfast was under $25 for two (I got a side of bacon mmmm). I have to ask though, what's up with the plastic spoons? read more

But inside is a place with some of the best breakfast I've had in recent memory. A very simple menu combined with friendly servers adds up to a great experience. I was going to Cohoes today and looking for a place to eat. Found this place had good ratings, so decided to give it a try. The restaurant is small, but cute and lucky it was not busy. We were greeted quickly and with a friendly smile. I had the crab salad roll special with broccoli salad. Both were absolutely delicious!! I love that the crab salad was light on the mayonnaise and topped with little diced tomato and green onion. The broccoli salad had raisins, bacon and onion in it. This was also not drowning in dressing, with just enough to add flavor and moisture. My friend had mac salad with her roll and it was also delicious. Service was wonderful and attentive, but not rushed. This is a place I will keep on my list as a go-to! read more

Sorry no pics, but if you love corned beef hash, then you must go to Babe's in Cohoes. Two sisters (twins?) run this hidden gem. Hubs had blueberry pancakes which he couldn't finish and a side of the amazing hash. I had perfectly cooked over easy eggs, rye toast, tender hash browns and a side of hash....Could not finish the toast or potatoes...no way when there was hash that good. It is not overly salty which is my often complaint. Also tried their homemade hot sauce which is mild, but very good. This is breakfast and lunch only...nothing fancy, just good well cooked large portions of food. I bet they make a great BLT...I may need to try them for lunch, but will return for breakfast! read more

This charming little place is family owned and operated by kind people who make great food! I'm so glad I found it, the breakfast is good- the lunch is even better! My husband got the turkey triple club sandwich with fries and said it was awesome, dare I repeat that he said it was the best one he's had in a long, long time. My sandwich was called the gobbler, and it was so damn good!! It's no frills ~ just good food, sweet staff, and very reasonable prices. I mean yes I want to be able to go here and not have it be completely jammed, but it's too good to keep this place a secret, so definitely try it out because we should all be supporting small, local, family owned businesses and you won't be disappointed in this little gem! read more

After finishing up some early shopping, I stopped at Babe's Diner for breakfast. If you're a NY Yankees fan, then this is the right place! The atmosphere inside is that of a local greasy spoon with two dining areas. The main dining area has an L shaped lunch counter with black stools, table seating, small TV, and blue tile floors, kitchen area in the back. The side dining room has table seating, small TV, wood walls, and old linoleum floors. The walls are decorated with old pictures of Cohoes and plenty of NY Yankees and Babe Ruth pictures and memorabilia, hence the name of the diner. Most of the patrons here were older including a couple enjoying breakfast with their grandchild (in a high chair/good for kids). I sat in the side dining room near the TV which had the Today Show on showing the masses of early holiday shoppers in NJ. I just scored some pretty good bargains at several big box stores! Time to eat! I was offered hot coffee ($1.25) and I scanned over the menu, which offers the typical breakfast items (eggs, pancakes, French toast, home fries, egg sandwiches, & sides), sandwiches, burgers, fries, and grill items. Daily specials are posted including steak & eggs and Western & cheese omelets. Egg Beaters are offered for additional charge. The prices here are very reasonable. I ordered the Western Sandwich with Home Fries ($3.75) which was up in 10 minutes. The sandwich was pretty good, the egg had lots of onions and ham served on a large toasted soft poppyseed kaiser bun. The home fries were okay and lightly fried potatoes. The coffee was pretty good tasting, not too strong. The service here was efficient (one person serving everyone and refilling coffee mugs). I was offered coffee refills during the meal and after the check was dropped off. The check came out to $5.40 with tax before tip. A good breakfast at a good price! This is a cute little cafe tucked in Cohoes, and these sisters will greet and treat you like you're family (calling you sweetie, hon, etc.). Eggs: They were cooked well but a bit greasy, which I wasn't a plus for me. Bacon: a bit crispier than I like but it was still really good. I genuinely came here on a whim, because it was the closest restaurant nearby that wasn't expensive, and I was starving. Talk about being pleasantly surprised! The cafe is very clean and very cozy, and the staff are all incredibly friendly and attentive. Though I suppose I should have expected this from a local family run cafe. I ordered the Turkey on rye special with a side of onion rings, a cup of chicken pot pie soup, and hot chocolate. The workers were super friendly and attentive, the food was magical and they accommodated my special orders when I asked for some big changes to their breakfast burrito to make it vegan. My son had pancakes eggs and bacon. My husband had the ehh sandwich. Home fries are big but not ultra crispy if you like them crispy. Maybe ask for well done. I loved them the way they are.
