We first became aware of this amazing bakery when a pumpkin shaped cake was ordered for my daughter's bridal shower a few years ago. Not only did the dimensional cake look excellent, it tasted great. I recently visited Cake Street Sweets for a 3rd time and was very disappointed in the quality and service I received. I sent an order in for my husband's birthday cake. Because they now offer vegan options, my husband chose to get the vegan flavor cake. They are not professionals in decorating vegan cakes. I sent a picture of what I wanted and discussed it over the phone. The whole cake (the icing) was not able to be made vegan which was. The decor looked like a beginner cake decorator experimented on the cake. My husband went to pick it up and didn't know what it would look like until I looked at it later that evening. When I emailed my disappointment and even resent pictures of what wanted versus what I got, Kayla responded with its a vegan cake. Then I called the next day and asked if vegan cake decor was supposed to be ugly. looked like a cake ordered from Wish. Very disappointing. Kayla was very rude and disrespectful. She even hung up on me. I would never go back there again and would never recommend her to anyone. Even if you want a vegan cake don't order unless you want a plain undecorated cake. For some reason, she can't decorate on vegan cakes. The pictures below show what I wanted and what I got. I asked for: White icing. Gold drip. Top icing(piping) design: Green, Black & Yellow In the top middle of the cake 'CG' logo. (Picture attached) I have attached pictures: (1) an example of the cake I wanted for this order. (2-4) what I got (5) the cake from last year. The logo on the top was the best part because it was printed on edible paper. She called and said they didn't have gold for the gold drip. I asked for black, green & yellow drip. She said they can't do a different color drip even though she did it last year. By the look at the cake from my previous orders, it seemed like the real cake decorator couldn't take her rude nasty attitude and left. If you did please tell me where you went so I can order from you. Kayla is going to reply saying she gave me back some of my money-"to cover the cost of the vegan supplies." That cake wasn't worth the price. I've seen better at Walmart. She only got 1 star because my husband liked the logo. **I also noticed that the owner's response to a negative comment is to blame the customer, by saying they 'Berate her'. Seems to me that the common denominator is the owner Kayla. Every single customer is wrong in how SHE handled the situation. You need to work on your customer service skills.** read more

Cake Street Sweets - The most amazing Birthday cake. - Bakeries Near Me - Cohoes, New York

What a horrible experience. My mother had placed an order with Kayla (the owner) for my sons baptism. My mother requested a white buttercream cake with "touches of blue" and a gold cross (see attached email, I did crop it due to my mothers personal info being attached). When we picked up the cake the day before his baptism, we received a completely blue cake with smears of frosting covering it, gold leafing and so much "detail" that it was difficult to read the writing on the cake. This was the exact opposite of what we asked and honestly confusing as I would never picture that being acceptable as a baptism cake. I called and spoke to Kayla multiple times throughout the day. Multiple times she stated that their design was beautiful and a highly requested design, however she was not understanding that it was not what we asked for. Her personal beliefs of a design are not relevant. She did offer to refrost the cake or give me a $25 credit for future purchases. $25 towards a $100 cake that was nothing of what we asked for. In the end, I decided to bring the cake back and have it re frosted. We live a significant distance from the business so when I asked how long to expect this to take she told me approx 1-2 hours depending on how long it takes them to defrost the frosting, remove it and then refrost. When I dropped it off the women I spoke to asked me what I wanted and we agreed on the design. When I picked it up the cake it looked beautiful (see picture) and I thanked them. The next day during the party, we cut into the cake and found a thick layer of blue frosting underneath and a very thin layer of white frosting on top (see picture). I then emailed Kayla and requested a full refund as these added inconveniences and poor quality are unacceptable. Kayla was extremely rude, turning the conversation on me stating I insulted her staff by saying that the original design was not acceptable (the design I didn't ask for and was not a baptism looking design) and so fourth. She also attempted to state my mother did not specify the design during a phone conversation, however the email proof is very clear. Kayla then offered me a 50% refund, however rescinded that when I stated her customer service was poor and a full refund should be applied. I am absolutely shocked by my experience and am leaving a review in hopes no one else has to deal with the stress and disrespect of this owner. I'm sure the owner will have a lot to say in response, however all I ask is that you show compassion to future customers during their special day. read more

Excited to have a quality bakery so close to where I live! Had an unexpected day off from work and it was a nice day, so I decided to take my jogging stroller and my twins, and make the trek downtown to get some exercise in and enjoy some sweet treats (and not feel guilty about it). The shop storefront is adorable and very welcoming...upon opening the door, the bell rang and I was greeted with a smile, and a helping hand to open the door for me. The display case had many delicious sounding options so I took a few minutes deciding what to order. I knew I wanted an iced coffee (which came with coffee cubes as to not water it down). I finally opted for a chocolate/chocolate frosted cupcake, a cookies n cream brownie, and a chocolate chip cookie. I was actually offered a warm one as they had just come out of the oven as I was in the shop. I thought that was nice. I chatted with the owner, Kayla, who was extremely friendly and personable as I checked out, and sat to enjoy my treats with my little ones in tow. Everything was really yummy. The cupcake was super dense but not overly sweet, which I really enjoyed. And who doesn't love a warm cookie? Just needed a glass of milk to go with it. All that sugar probably would have been even more enjoyable if I didn't have a 2 mile uphill walk in 80 degrees to get back home, but it was worth it! :) I had also ordered a few other goodies to go - more chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies, a couple of mini cannolis, and eclairs. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND Cake Street Sweets!!! I ordered a specialty cake for my aunts 90th birthday weeks ago. She's terminally ill and this will very likely be her last so the cake was meant to be special and everything she wanted (all chocolate). The person who took the order was very aware of this and knew importance. Design and price were agreed upon. I picked the cake up today and it's not what I ordered. The baker decided she didn't like the design with chocolate and changed to vanilla frosting without consulting me at all! I had no idea until they showed me at pickup hours before the party. It's too late to get a new cake and not to mention I had to pay full price for the cake 10 days prior and I paid significant money for something I didn't agree to and not what my aunt wanted. Chocolate. I was also told the owner was on their way in and would call me to discuss. Waited all day Friday and I even called and left a message but still nothing. She finally called me back at 12:00 the following day and told me it was a design decision she didn't think I would be so upset. I told her how I explained on the phone when placing the order how this is what my 90 year old wants and how she's a chocolate chocolate lover. The more chocolate the better. She said it was a busy rough week and she made the decision "sorry". I'll give you 20 off your next cake order. I told her I'd never order again because she can't follow instructions on what a customer wants. She didn't offer anything else and wasn't going to do anything for me. If anyone orders from there just be prepared to get the opposite of what you actually want. read more

This bakery is reliably good. I usually get the small vanilla cupcake with vanilla frosting or chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting. The cake is moist, not cloyingly sweet, and delicious. It's the perfect size so as not to feel overindulgent. The frosting is just the right amount and not excessively sweet. The best and, most important, part is that their cupcakes are consistently of high quality. They freeze and defrost well if you want to buy several and save them for later. I called Cake Street Sweets based solely on their Yelp reviews. All of my go-to bakeries were closing for the 4th of July week, leaving me crumbles for my husband's birthday party. Luckily they were open that holiday week and seemed even excited about the simple but decadent chocolate and peanut butter cake I had envisioned. First thing I noticed was the cake was heavy for its size- a very good sign! The aroma of nutty chocolate was a wonderful sign. As we cut into it, the density and moistness were obvious. A thick layer of a peanut butter fudgy center held the perfect dense cake together with perfectly balanced milk chocolate buttercream. Alone these layers were superb. Combined they were magical. We have since returned for the occasional treat of cupcakes and cookies, all of which were an ideal return on investment. There is no question Cake Street is now my first choice for all future birthday cakes. And in the mean time I have their cupcakes plus to make me happy. read more

Have visited a number of times, and everything we have tried from the selection of small deserts has been excellent. Nothing is overly sweet. The flavors are precise and delicate. After a terrible accident, my cousin had her jaw wired shut for weeks such that she could only drink liquids. She finally got them off Monday and the first thing she said was she couldn't wait to eat something sweet from her favorite bakery--Cake Street Sweets which is literally 79 feet away from her front door. I live far away and just had major surgery myself so I can't bake for her like I would normally do.  I explained the situation to Cake Street Sweets and asked via email if they would deliver a half dozen cupcakes to her (for a little taste test) and they said, "No they only deliver wedding cakes." I followed up and asked if they could make an exception given the circumstances and the fact that she literally lived next door to them--and they said no. I know businesses are slammed these days--but I have a soft spot for those who are willing to go the extra mile--Cake Street Sweets doesn't seem like they are that kind of business. Very cute little place on Remsen St. I believe it was formerly Sticky Fingers? The cupcakes were moist and the frosting was tasty (however, they are small). I had the almond cupcake... YUM! I also tried the Macaroons... also very tasty. I had a few bites of the individual cheesecakes. I don't usually like my cheesecake right from the fridge, but even so, this tasted quite good. We happened to go here by chance. We had gone to Cohoes to visit a dress shop which was closed and my daughter saw the bakery so we went in. She got a cupcake 2hich she said was good.
