Adorable selection of fresh donuts at this shop in the heart of downtown Tuscaloosa. Cute little shop with an authentic vibe. The owner was very friendly, recommending fan favorites & after ordering a mixed dozen, also threw in some mini donuts with the apple fritters. Can not stress how fresh they are! Efficient, friendly service. We picked up a couple of cold brews. Thumbs up. Additionally, two Conecuh sausage kolaches, two old fashioned donuts, and one apple fritter. Just a fun to know fact: when you get real Czech kolaches, they are the round fruit or cream cheese center topped delights made of a sweet bread-like dough unique to kolaches. A klobasnek is technically the "correct name" for one of log-shaped sausages wrapped in the same sort of dough. No matter what the name, though, they are still delicious. Their "kolaches" were wrapped in more of a croissant-type pastry dough. They were heated for us at point of sale. We did enjoy them, but just a tip if you are pining for the other dish. The Apple fritter? We were there for that. Yum, yum, yum. Crispy edges, soft, fluffy inside, sliced apples here and there. Nice cinnamon. Bought it passing through, and still have some in the car. This place is the best breakfast I have had in Tuscaloosa. I went with my girlfriend on a Sunday morning and it was so good. We got a box of 6 donuts to try a variety and each one of them were so good. I got the sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich on a croissant which was amazing. My girlfriend got the honey butter chicken biscuit which was also a 10/10. This is easily our favorite breakfast spot. read more

I have to say this shop is extremely nice and clean. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The only reason I am giving this shop a lower rating is because I can't say I LOVE these donuts. The donuts are average size and width, around the same that you would get from Dunkin. As far as taste is concerned, I cant say I found anything that was spectacular. All of the donuts were similar in taste, and the toppings didn't help much for variation. Another thing that I disliked was their frosting. Its extremely sugary and gets old FAST. Not only is the frosting on top of some donuts, its also inside the cream filled donut. There is many options to choose from which is a plus, but the donuts alone are nothing special. read more

I have tried a couple of donuts from here in the past and they were wonderful but my go to is always a breakfast sandwich. They are delicious and always made to order. Well - if prior reviews were accurate it must have been a really off day. First, upon entry where I was the only customer - the staff took about 3 to 4 minutes to even acknowledge me being in their store. I thought I was literally being "punk'ed". To follow that up my coffee was cold and the donut display had maybe 6 options. The donuts I purchased were not what prior reviews suggested. In fact, they were very sub-average. The prior reviews on ambiance are accurate - a strange dark setup. Net:net......a disappointing future pass for me! read more

The first time I went to Babe's I got a couple of doughnuts and they threw in a handful of doughnut holes. The doughnuts that visit were great. I went back today about 3 months later, the doughnut I got was awful. It tasted like it was day old or older. I ordered 3 items and no doughnuts holes were added. They might just be cutting back which I understand. The second time was definitely not enjoyable. And I feel their prices might of gone up too, but not sure. Babe's is always open and always very fast. Good doughnuts and really passable breakfast sandwiches. Depending on who is working you can get a really nicely made coffee. It may not look like a really nice coffee shop but I've gotten more delicious coffee here than a place like Monarch or Turbo which specialize in coffee. The minute we stepped into downtown Tuscaloosa's Babe's Doughnuts, I was a fan! They had Los Eik, Roy Blair, Dae Zhen and Sectiontoo playing in the background with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee drifting throughout the place. The area is stripped down to stools and plank tables and greenery everywhere which is exactly how to put the focus on the food. Let's talk doughnut choices because man, there are a plenty. Shout out to Saunders who guided us on our choices and gave us a brief description of his favorite teas and coffees. He even chatted us up on our beloved hometown of Nashville and his visits there. We ended up with a blueberry hibiscus got tea and hazelnut and caramel lattes. The FREE doughnut holes that come with every order had a pina colada flavor that quickly hooked you on the first bite. TIP: grab a dozen of these on your way out to snack on later. You'll keep dreaming about them long after you've left. We decided to get a box of everything and just taste it all (as you can see in the pic below). Like another patron stated, the sweetness factor is just so that you can eat many and not feel as satiated, which is a definite plus. Stopped by Babe's to pick up some treats as I heard it was really delicious. It's a very cute little coffee shop/cafe. It's nicely designed, and feels very homey. They have doughnuts, fritters, and kolaches, as well as some breakfast and lunch type sandwiches and biscuits. I stopped in just minutes before close and no one was irritated that I cut it so close, so that's nice. The gentleman who rang me up was quiet but had a pleasant smile. I got a chocolate glazed doughnut and a Nutella doughnut. Now, it was a few hours till we ate them - got them around 1 and had them for dessert around 10:30 PM. I think the chocolate glazed doughnut's quality deteriorated quite a bit, as it was rather dry and the chocolate quite hard and flaky. However, the flavors were good and I believe it would have been quite tasty had it been fresher. Mind you, it is a more cakey doughnut, something I prefer. I'm a heathen and I don't like Krispy Kreme at all, so this is a nice alternative. The Nutella doughnut though. My GOODNESS, it was delicious. I do not ordinarily like any doughnut very much, and only came here based on the great reviews. I loved this doughnut. I will agree with other reviewers and say that it needed a bit more Nutella throughout, as only two or three bites actually had Nutella in them, but honestly, the doughnut was so good I didn't even care that much.
