Rude, all about money. 36 seconds into the call she offered services($400 plus parking,) without knowing any details about our dog's injury. When I said I'm not sure I need those she rudely said, "THEN I'M NOT YOUR VETERINARIAN." Wow! Her tone was so mean I wanted to hang up immediately. We are more than willing to pay anything for our dogs, and found another more expensive vet that takes cash so going with them. She also answered "Hello" and seemed skeptical about who was calling her. You have to record your name and then she picks up. Bizarre woman. Not someone o want touching my dog. Money hungry! I was looking for some acupuncture and other alternative therapies for my cat who has a rare connective tissue disorder. I also wanted a house call vet as my cat has a severe heart condition and I don't want to stress him out by taking him to the vet anymore than I have to, Dr. Gladstein's website says she works in the great NYC area and is licensed in a bunch of states. I filled out the appointment request form and after a few days when I didn't hear back I decided to call. A woman answered the phone in an angry tone with something like "what!". It caught me off guard. I asked if this was Dr. Babette and she angrily answered yes and what did I want. I explained that I wanted an appointment and hadn't heard from her so I was just following up. She then asked where I lived. When I said Brooklyn she became enraged and told me that she never answers inquiries from outside of Manhattan because she doesn't have staff and she's very busy so she can't be bothered answering inquiries for places she isn't going to go. Then she asked why I called. I repeated that I hadn't heard back. Anyway, this went back and forth for a few minutes and she was SO mad that I'd called her when she's SO busy. I was completely taken aback at her unprofessionalism and rudeness and was practically shaking she upset me so much. Lady, if you don't want someone to call you or inquire about going anyplace other than Manhattan, don't put that info on your website!!! I don't read minds. I was just trying to get help for my cat. Williamsburg is closer to Manhattan than most of Manhattan. If that's the case you should put that on your site & don't act so completely shocked & appalled when you answer the phone. I had a terrible experience with this vet. I was heartbroken over having to put my kitty to sleep and was calling around for a vet who made house calls. This woman was extremely rude on the phone, difficult to understand, and when I asked again if she could euthanize my kitty at home she flipped out on me and started yelling -- I kid you not -- about how there was a virus out there and she wasn't taking any new patients. I was initially shocked at her lack of professionalism, then angry at her for making a sad situation for me even worse. I told her she was rude and hung up on her sorry self. read more

I turned to Dr Gladstein when my 5 year old french bulldog was at a point where he could not sit down without being in serious pain because of herniated disc. Our original vet suggested the next step was an MRI and possible surgery. We absolutely wanted to avoid surgery at all costs. Dr Gladstein took a lot of time with me on the phone and I set up an appointment. I was so nervous about the entire thing. In our first session she spent nearly 2 hours with our dog working with him combining laser therapy, ultrasound therapy and acupuncture. I was so impressed with Dr Gladstein's knowledge and her ability to explain what she was doing. Our dog really reacted well to all the treatments and each day the following week he became more of himself again. We continued to have sessions week after week. Then, Dr Gladstein told us we needed to do something called Prolo Therapy. This is a series of injections to help build the areas around the joints. We were told he would need to be sedated for these injections. I asked over and over again if there was any major risk with this treatment and I was told time after time by Dr Gladstein that there was NO major risk and if anything really went south she would give my dog a shot of epinephrine and he would wake right up. We had our first Prolo treatment and our dog had a reaction to one of the injections that Dr Gladstein gave him, She was unable to revive him and he passed away. it's hard to believe that my worst nightmare actually happened. Prolo is NOT SAFE for all dogs, There was clearly something else going on with our dog that we did not know about, that Dr Gladstein did not know about. I wish that we had never gone down this road. Our beautiful dog is now gone. Dr Gladstein made us feel sure this was the only real way to help our dog. I know she was just as shocked that this happened as we were. Dr. Gladstein is a pro. She is an animal lover and advocate. Several years back she saved my Brussels Griffon and extended his life for 2 years when he was quite sick. Other traditional Vets told me to "get over it as he was old and to be prepared for him to pass". Dr Gladstein was not having it and extended his life with laser and acupuncture. It sounds far fetched but it worked!! I have recommended the Doctor to several friends and co - workers who have had the same experience. Our Coton de Tulear Jack was 10 years old when he tore his ACL. He could not put any weight on his rear right leg and consequently, could hardly walk and was in terrible pain. I took him to our Vet who said he needed surgery and would most likely need surgery on his other knee within a year. I thought there had to be a better way. This is when I was lucky enough to find Dr. Babette Gladstein. She came to see Jack immediately and told me she could cure him without surgery. It would take several months of treatments with Laser, Ultrasound and Prolo Therapy. He would also have to wear a brace, on his leg, during the treatment time. To make a long story short - Jack is totally cured! He's about to turn 15 and runs like he did when he was a puppy. I moved to New York City from Philadelphia in 1997 with my two dogs, a retired racing greyhound and a rescued Weimaraner-Shar-Pei mix. I was looking for a doctor that did acupuncture for my greyhound as at the time I was still traveling back to Philadelphia on a regular basis to receive acupuncture for my greyhound. I found Dr. Babette Gladstein in a published pet guide. This was life-changing for my dog and me. It relieved the stress of the two and a half hour drive for me and also for my greyhound who would be nervous in a car to begin with. Dr. Gladstein would come to the home, which totally eliminated the stress of travel for my dog. While treating my greyhound, I asked Dr. Gladstein to examine my other dog. We had been going to other vets for a few years with no resolution of a stomach issue that he had. Dr. Gladstein did a full workup and identified that he had irritable bowel syndrome that had gone undetected by other veterinarians and that had lead to a tumor. She started a regimen of acupuncture, change of diet and we saw positive results very, very quickly. He lived happily for another 2 1/2 years. When it was time to let him go at the age of 15 Dr. Gladstein came to my home and compassionately did the euthanasia. Both my greyhound and my Weimaraner Shar-Pei mix benefited greatly by Dr. Gladstein's expertise in both traditional and holistic medicine. My greyhound had difficulty walking after racing in this barbaric industry, and acupuncture and laser helped her tremendously. Both my dogs lived to be 15 years old with the great care of Dr. Gladstein. Our other pet, Preston the cat, also was treated by her during his difficult time of dealing with lymphoma. One of the most comforting things about her is that she gives all of her patients her cell phone. Whenever I needed to reach her either for a question or an emergency, and I called her on the cell, she either picked up immediately or texted quickly that she would get back to me ASAP. She is always there for you. What other veterinarian or doctor does this? To emphasize this, my neighbor, who had five cats at the time, had a sick kitty and it was Christmas eve. He asked me if I knew anyone that he could contact. I immediately called Dr. Gladstein's cell phone and she came over to his apartment on Christmas Eve to help his kitty. He still uses Dr. Gladstein's services for all of his cats to this day. Our pets are part of our family and having the doctor come to your home helps tremendously with the stress level that traveling to an office, waiting in the lobby with other sick animals, barking, unfamiliar premises, can cause. Lastly, another testament to Dr. Gladstein's compassion and professional commitment to care for animals, after my two large dogs passed away, she was volunteering at a local shelter and called me on the phone, as she knew I wanted another dog. She said you have to come to the shelter, there is a wonderful dog that I think would be a perfect match for your family. We now have, for the last five years, a beautiful, loving Pomeranian and we owe that to Dr. Gladstein. He was surrendered to the shelter at seven months old with a broken leg. She treated his leg with injections of pig stem cells. She is always doing continuing education to be proficient in the newest and innovative treatments for animals. My dog and I are a therapy team and we visit hospitals, nursing homes and schools. His leg is totally healed and he runs and plays and jumps with no restrictions. I have been a supporter and ambassador of Dr. Gladstein for 15+ years and have recommended her because of her excellent care and response to pets needs on numerous occasions to friends, neighbors and acquaintances. My dog is my world and Dr. Gladstein treated my furbaby with all the care and knowledge she had. I used Dr. Babette Gladstein about three years ago and it's taken this long for me to be able to think about her without getting upset. I got in touch with her after hearing her name at a holistic pet store. My dog had back problems after an injury, and it seemed worth giving acupuncture a try. Dr. Gladstein, who has no office and does only house calls, started off by insulting my home ("I didn't know they had apartments this small - this is crap") then moved on to me ("You're killing your dog") and was even a little rude to my dog (instead of calling her by her name, Dr. Gladstein would just point at her and refer to her as "this dog"). Her Judge Judy-style rudeness might have been tolerable if she'd delivered some value, but it didn't work out that way. After the acupuncture session, Dr. Gladstein said, "Look, she's walking better already." (I didn't see any difference, although to be fair, perhaps a barely perceptible change is all that one can expect after one treatment.) But about an hour after Dr. Gladstein left, my dog became listless and despondent and began to twitch uncontrollably -- I'd never seen her in such a state. My regular vet had me rush her to the animal hospital to see a neurologist. She ended up spending three days there, where she improved. It's hard to say for sure whether Dr. Gladstein made my dog's condition worse, but she definitely didn't make her any better. I have to wonder how much of Dr. Gladstein's "ability" falls into the emperor's new clothes realm. She was self-promoting and seemed to enjoy hearing herself talk. (After she told me not to give my dog chicken, I asked about eggs. "Use your comment sense," Dr. Gladstein said. "What's an egg? A bay-bee chicken!") When I mentioned her name separately to my vet and the neurologist, each sucked in his breath, tried to restrain a grimace, and then said nothing. That said a lot. read more

It's hard to give this vet even one star, let alone two. She fails to think out of the box when needed to diagnose an animal's problem, illness, etc. ~ and refuses to recommend a medical vet when needed. While holistic vets have their place -- they are not always professionally equipped to deal with more serious issues. This doctor did acupuncture on my G-d dog who couldn't stand and used old info (over two year's old) to administer "therapy." This dog is in worse condition and we went to a medical vet who referred us to a neurologist -- which is what we are doing. read more

Ms gladstien may be ok for a little physical therapy But that's it My 15 yr old dachshund ate a pound of turkey ,and of course became very ill ,I was told at the amc that she had had to much turkey and had a mild case of pancreatitis . If I could give her zero stars I would! I called to try and ask if there was anything I can do to try and calm my dogs rash because all the other vets were closed. Not to mention I had already called all the other ones and they went straight to voicemail. She was very rude didn't even try to listen to my issue. She shut me up mid sentence with a nasty tone asking my location. Specifics actually of where I was located which is weird. When I told her she said only does "house calls" and that she was in the Hampton's. When you google her practice it says she's located on East 89th which is not even 10 minutes away from me. I suggest you update your information. I definitely feel like because my location isn't "wealthy" she didn't want to deal with me. You would think when there is a pandemic happening she would atleast try to hear what you have to say if she really cares for animals, but because of my location she didn't even bother trying. Dr. Gladstein saved my dog's life. My Cane Corso, Dizzy, was purchased from a horrible breeder, we did not know any better in selecting an ethical breeder. Long story short, at 1.5 years old her hips gave out. Film radiographs showed that she literally had no real hip joint socket, it was too shallow. The traditional vets were talking about double hip surgeries and astronomical cost, and possible putting her to sleep after a few years...Again, Dizzy was only 1.5 years old. Dr. Gladstein, used prolotherapy on my girl...it's been three years since the treatment protocol. I have waited to post a review just to see if Dr. Gladstein's work can stand the test of time, and it has. Dizzy is a beautiful, healthy Cane Corso showing no signs of slowing down. Dr. G has been our vet for over five years now. Our two cats(Ziggy and Marley) have thrived under her care. She's advised us on what food to feed them, what supplements they should be taking, trouble signs to look for and many other helpful things. Babette has been my vet for many years. My first buddy Dulce was with me for 10 years. She was healthy and when she showed signs of something going on, she was able to immediately assess over the phone what was wrong and as a result Dulce went straight to emergency surgery and survived bloat. She also detected kidney issues early and with very holistic care, Dulce lived happily for another 2 years. My new buddy Taro is a puppy and so far our care and treatment of her sensitive rescue puppy belly is going great. Today I noticed that my kitty is limping and after walking for couple of seconds, he lifts his right front paw and rests. Tomorrow is a holiday but I decided to search animal chiropractors in the city and see if they would have emergency hours by any chance tomorrow. I just called Dr. Gladstein's office to inquire. She has a 877 number and it was transferred to her. She picked up the phone and did not respond to my greeting. So I asked if she has emergency hours tomorrow and to my horror she said "Are you F%$@*#ing kidding me?" . Rest assure she used the full word! and hung up on me. I double and triple checked the number and I dialed the right number. I'm shocked, she must be incredibly disturbed. A few months ago I noticed a significant change in my 12 year-old Shepherd mix's stance. His hind paws were not pointing straight and he kept hanging his head below his shoulder level. He seemed uncomfortable and was sleeping a bit more than what was normal for him just a few month prior and had a sudden onset of intermittent digestive problems I had taken him to AMC for his big annual exam about 4 to 5 months prior to the onset of these symptoms - he had full blood work done including a GI panel as well as chest x-rays and an abdominal ultrasound and all results were excellent. I am very confident with my choices regarding my pets health and feeding protocols so I knew that taking him back to a general Vet would result in nothing more than x-rays and a prescription for Metacam or Rimadyl and from there, I knew that at his age these drugs would cause a downward spiral in his health. I needed someone who was not going to use these drugs and would help my dog heal instead of just using painkillers as a Band-Aid in the hopes that the problem would maybe or hopefully go away. This is why I contacted Dr. Babette - she is incredibly well versed in wellness therapy for aging dogs, using non-invasive therapies to help manage pain and discomfort while getting to the root of the problem and using acupuncture, laser therapy, ultrasound and physical manipulation to heal and eliminate the pain and discomfort.... This is exactly what she did for my baby, Shaq - after 2 sessions with Dr. Babette his head was held high, his toes were pointing ahead, he was running again instead of dragging - he started to roll on his back again when he wanted his belly rubbed - all of this without the use of any NSAID's that destroy his liver and accelerate the aging process in an already elderly patient. Dr. Gladstein has cared for our dogs for many years now. We have found her to be roundly and thoroughly experienced, fully informed and up-to-date about both medical and alternative methods and, perhaps most importantly, intuitive in her ability to apply them. Her years of experience working with racehorses emphasized her orthopedic experience and she is an excellent diagnostician, knows just how to treat things and has developed rehab protocols that have healed and supported our dogs' progress with more thorough attention than any physical therapist for humans we have ever run across. Our family adopts rescue dogs, and it seems that there was often some kind of physical trauma in their early lives. As a result of our dogs' misaligned, scar tissue laden and previously injured bodies, over the years, they experienced sore or injured shoulders, spines, torn ACLs, strained deep digital flexor tendons, pulled groin muscles. Dr. Gladstein was able to diagnose the problems, when sometimes other vets could not, and heal them with her carefully conceived, noninvasive protocols. For those of you who are interested in her use of prolotherapy for orthopedic injuries, I originally discovered Dr. Gladstein because I had used prolotherapy on my knees some years back. This is not an alternative methodology, simply a medical one that fell out of use once surgery came into play. I had severe cartilage issues with my knees and prolotherapy healed them permanently. It is a wonderful healing technique and Dr. Gladstein has educated herself extremely well in its use. I highly recommend you check for the literature that is either posted on her website or online. The articles in The Prolotherapy Journal are fascinating and informative. Once you read them, you may never want to consider orthopedic surgery again for your pet or yourself! She is also completely versed in all other areas of veterinary care, providing us with annual check ups, vaccinations, worm prevention, any digestive issues that arise, wound care - any and everything that our dogs have come up with! For those who do not care to work with alternative methods, Dr. Gladstein has every medical tool available. We, in our family, do believe in supplementing medical care with alternative methods, so it has been a godsend to find a fully certified veterinarian who knows how and when to use and blend non-surgical techniques, acupuncture, chiropractic adjustment, alternative supplements instead of, or in conjunction with, medicine and nutrition. On a more personal note, Babette has made herself available to us like no other vet. On the occasion that our dog was violently vomiting at ten at night, she didn't put us off by sending us off to an emergency vet center to spend the night there. Instead, after learning what the dog had ingested and determining its lack of acute danger, she coached us through how to care for our dog at home and made herself available by phone throughout the night. This did involve us calling her back twice more that night, the last time being at 2 AM, and at the end of each phone call she made sure to tell us to call again if we had any other worries or questions. She checked in with us first thing in the morning, before we even had a chance to call to tell her that everything was fine. It is also notable that, while a visit to veterinary offices were always quite brief, a veterinary appointment with Babette will see her spending as much time as your pet could need. When she comes to do a rehab session, she spends up to two hours with one of our dogs, making sure that he gets every care possible. Since starting to write this review, I, too, have now seen the two other negative reviews listed here. I am so glad to see that another faithful client followed up on these, and has provided explanations for these reviews. I would agree that Babette can sometimes be abrupt in her manner, but her actions are consistently dedicated, caring and with the best interests of our pets at the forefront. I have had horses, cats and dogs all my life, and I have never, ever felt so secure that we humans will have the best guidance and that our pets will have the best care and support from our association with Babette. read more

I found Dr. Gladstein when my dog was ten years old. His health was starting to fail from multiple issues and he could no longer make the 4 block walk to my vet. Someone in my building who saw that my dog could only walk with difficulty left Dr. Gladstein's name and number for me with a glowing recommendation. Dr. Gladstein makes house visits routinely. My dog was very big and the last time I took him to the local vet in a wheelchair we almost both got killed when we toppled over a pothole. I called Dr. Gladstein and am so glad I know my dog's last year was comfortable, without any painful un-necessary treatments. I first met Dr. Gladstein when my 10 year old mixed breed rescue male dog started having pain in his knees. Dr. Gladstein explained that in order to help him we should perform Prolotherapy. Prolotherapy is a medical treatment that stimulates the body to repair or regenerate itself addressing such conditions as knee pain and arthritis, etc. Dr Gladstein came over to my apartment and performed 6 sessions of Prolotherapy. Each time she had to sedate my dog and each time she stayed with me until my dog was comfortable and walking around. At 13 years old my dog started having on and off again stomach issues with disgusting burps (and other disgusting effects). She fixed his nutrition and he has not had any stomach issues since. He is a healthy eater and has no elimination issues any longer. At 15 years old my dog started having trouble with his hips. Dr. Gladstein has been coming to my apartment regularly to perform physical therapy on my dog. She does laser therapy and acupuncture with stimulation. She always answers all of my questions and explains things so that they are easy to understand. She is concerned with the whole health of my dog and always checks him out as she is doing the therapy.
