The veterinarians are superb. The vet techs are excellent. The staff is mostly very good. The billing is incompetent. They keep trying to charge me for a bill I've paid. They have no record of my payment. But the bill is for $1,700--and they claim that when they charged my credit card the charge was declined. If that's true, no one said a word to me. I left with my pet. WHO SAYS, "THANKS, HERE'S YOUR CREDIT CARD. HAVE A NICE DAY!" if the charge didn't go through? I never got the receipt they said they'd email. I didn't think about it until they kept sending me notices. If you take your pet there, you'll likely get great veterinary care but DEMAND A RECEIPT BEFORE YOU LEAVE, ON PAPER. read more

I have to say, I really miss cat, the international specialist. Here, She was awesome was on top of everything. It's been probably a couple of months that she's been gone, and the atmosphere here really sucks. It's not the same. Every time you come in and someone different I the front. How could you not take your pet to West Chelsea Vet? My cockapoo Ruby and I came to WCV when she was 9 weeks old. From the moment I walked in I knew this was the place for us. We had an appointment with Dr. Farber and he was amazing. His compassion for all animals is pure and genuine and others should follow his lead. The entire staff gets to know your pet as if it were theirs. You are family to all who work here. Ruby just turned 13 and I don't know about your dog but Ruby couldn't wait to see either Dr. Farber or Dr.Halligan, climbed onto the scale (by herself) to be weighed, and took her exam like a champ and then was given her favorite treat. Ruby was recently diagnosed with oral melanoma and the staff went over and above. They accommodated us with appointments at a moments notice and after several discussions with both Dr. Farber and Dr. Halligan, it was time to say goodbye. It was one of the most difficult things I've had to do but the most humane I could do for her. Dr. Farber was there every step of the way and I couldn't be more thankful to have such a caring vet handle this. When I'm ready for my next companion, you know I will be heading to WCV without hesitation. Thank you to the doctors and the entire staff for taking such good care of us these past 13 years. I am so happy I found this vet for my 2 kitties! After some communication issues with my last vet, I was so happy to find this vet. I got a recommendation from another cat owner and I was thrilled with the care my cats received today. Dr Greco and the nurses were so kind and caring with my Ron and Ginny. They received an exam and vaccines. You get to be in the room with them the entire time and they took the time to really get to know them. I also appreciated the advice on cat food I got when I asked and they sent me home with samples to try. They took us back about 30 minutes after our scheduled appointment time due to a critical patient that Dr Greco was dealing with. I completely understood and the front desk staff kept me updated and informed the entire time. It just showed me how much care they give to the patients. I would want my cats given priority if they had a critical condition, so it really made me trust this practice even more! read more

I received what was at best luke warm reception and service at the front desk from a handsome man with a beard and long, dark hair. I felt like I was being punk'ed paying for medications that cost me a chunk of a days pay and no greeting, no "Thank you", no nothing. Service is of course top notch, but prices are EXTREMELY high. I was getting charged 30.00 a month for medication for pills that cost 10.00 for a 90 day supply at yelp. Their lab costs are extraordinarily high as well, and the push and guilt you into paying these extreme prices. I would highly suggest finding a less expensive clinic before taking you pet here. West Chelsea Vet is pretty good. If veterinary medicine is anything like human medicine, I think it's safe to assume that virtually all vets in NYC are well-trained. So to me, it's the other aspects of the practice outside of the actual veterinary care that serve as a way to differentiate. This practice is surprisingly not that tech-forward. Even when comparing it to other single-location practices (ignoring the newer chains that are very tech-friendly), West Chelsea lags behind. They have a clunky scheduling system that's only recently been introduced (everything was done over the phone before), and their patient portal is essentially nonexistent. They rely on a third-party solution for some of their tech, but it's this weird partial integration that is pretty unfriendly to navigate. Still, the practice makes up for the tech shortcomings with responsive staff who do a lot of work manually in response to patient requests. The visits are well-run, and veterinarians and staff have all been friendly and professional. If you live near this practice, they're a solid choice. But if you're looking for a practice that doesn't rely so much on phones/old-school operations, the newer chains might be more suitable. read more

We recently moved to the area and my dog had a bad ear infection. I called the day of and luckily they had an appointment since I don't think my dog could wait any longer. There is a decent waiting area and we were seen pretty quickly once checked in. Dr. Price was very friendly and professional! She explained everything clearly and listened to all my concerns. My dog's ear is looking a lot better and he isn't scratching his ear anymore. Overall the place is great but the prices are pretty hefty (I'm guessing it's because NYC) but just be prepared. read more

We got a dog in January 2022. In less than 2 years we had 3 different vets. The first was Firefly Vet. It was a small office with a small team. We liked it a lot and our dog loved it. Unfortunately, West Chelsea bought them, and they closed at the end of 2022. Our files were transferred to West Chelsea, and we followed our vet there. In short, we HATED IT. Firstly, our dog genuinely did not like the location. Going to the vet can be stressful for animals, the last thing you want is for your pet to be stressed out by the office. Secondly from the little that we saw the place is very poorly managed, here are two examples. Last winter I was supposed to drop my dog for a surgery at 8am, they canceled on me at 755am while I was waiting outside their office (and freezing my ass). By then, I already had misgiving about West Chelsea and this lack of professionalism and poor quality of service lead me to decide to go elsewhere. A year later I received an invoice for a service allegedly performed back then. They acknowledged they failed to send invoices, yet they still added late fees. The late fees were quickly removed after I inquired about them; I have every reason to believe they would have quietly collected them if I had not asked about them. Either way another sign of poor management. Somehow, I still have to trust them that the 1 year old charge is real. Currently we go the Heart Of Chelsea at their Chelsea location. It's a big operation but does not feel too much like one. We have been happy with them thus far and our dog like their office. It's not as good as Firefly but its close. read more

THIS VET IS GOD AWFUL!!!! Most recently- I have had to contact for the fourth time to simply ask them to REMOVE my contact information. Despite that, I have gotten emails, and today I even got a phone call. When I asked again today for them to delete my information, I was hung up on. I called back, and was given an attitude again that "they HAD deleted it" despite never asking my name, my phone number, or any contact information to actually do so. The people working at this desk are totally incompetent. And then there's the services themselves. Do you like a veterinarian who provides consistent service? Do you like having the same doctor for your pet, after you were promised a certain doctor during your first visit? Do you enjoy being told when to pick up your pet and being able to do so in an efficient and timely manner? If so, find a different vet. Over the course of 6 months with my puppy, I'm not even sure how many different doctors I saw. None of them seemed to even remember us, as we'd be back the following week or two and they'd see us and make no acknowledgement whatsoever. Moreover, at the time we were not allowed inside, so they'd just have my puppy for an hour or more as they had already told me he was ready to go, and I'd just be waiting outside. An hour, or more. This happened more than once. Their time is more important than yours. read more

My dog has gone here for over two years now and I have been very happy with her care. She had dental surgery and that went very well. Her exams and treatment for an infection did, too. The vets, technicians and assistants are kind and seem to love animals. We took our pet cat there and typically we expected to pay for the visit so we paid between $1,200 and $1,300. Also we were prescribed something to enhance his appetite called miritaz and I was charged $65.65 when I arrived there only to find out that their own website has it for $41. when I asked about the $25 difference in price shopping on their very own website the girl put me on hold and then came back on and told me that they work separate from the pharmacy that's why I was charged that price.? That didn't answer anything for me so I just hung up and called it a morning. I would look elsewhere for prescriptions if your pet got prescribed anything by these doctors. read more

This clinic is not transparent about fees and they add unnecessary testing and products. Every time I leave this place I feel like I got robbed. They don't ask first, they do the testing (that your dog doesn't need) and give you products then hit you with a HUGE invoice AFTER. Even when they have given me estimates and I've been very clear that I'm there for a specific reason I've been charged for services, tests and products that I did not want and my dog didn't need. Expect to pay 800-1000k per regular visit and 2-3k for neutering. read more

I can't believe I haven't already left a review! Was logging on to add more positives about West Chelsea Vet based on an experience today. I've been taking my dog, Jefferson, here since we got him 2 years ago. From regular checkups and vaccines to emergencies, the staff and doctors at WCVH go so far above and beyond. We've seen a few different docs over the years and they are all exceptional. Seriously you can't go wrong. Today's experience exceeded even my previously high expectations. We just moved out of the city to westchester and have our first appt with a new vet here on Saturday. Of course, one week before his checkup with the new doc sweet Jefferson came down with some nasty tummy troubles. Once he hit the 24 hour mark with no improvement and an accident in the house I went into panic mode. I was unable to get an emergency appt with the new vet so I called WCVH to get some advice. Not only did the doctor talk to me for about 20 minutes on the phone (after 7pm!) to do a thorough remote assessment and give me advice. She was able to send through a prescription to a pharmacy in my new town so my boy didn't have to go through one more night of discomfort. On top of the exceptional care, they did this for us knowing they won't be getting business from us any more as we're out of town now. It shows their dedication to the animals they treat and the humans who love them. So in addition to my positive feedback, i would just like to dispel the negative reviews that they do unnecessary tests simply to make money. We are so grateful to have found West Chelsea Veterinary Hospital (through a trusted friend's enthusiastic recommendation). We have two senior dogs with health issues and finding great vet care was my biggest concern with a recent move. They have been patient's at West Chelsea for about 7 months now and have seen Dr. Farber and Dr. Chen (both fantastic), had an echocardiogram (love that a cardiologist comes to the practice regularly) and most recently, Kat (amazing) worked with the USDA to get travel health certificates for them. I volunteer with a rescue, dogs are my people and getting the best care possible for our guys is really important to me. I can't recommend West Chelsea more highly (they are lovely people too)! read more

I have tried to give this place a chance and every time I am disappointed. To summarize because it would be unfair to give a bad review without a reason. 2 years ago my dog went there and they discovered kidney problems and arthritis as well- the usual remedy for arthritis is Rymadil - which they wanted to prescribe but Rymadil is not good for dogs with kidney problems - a friend had given me a name of another medication Adequan - which after I mentioned the doctor decided to prescribe - I guess I paid for the prescription and bunch of vaccinations which my dog at 13 doesn't probably needs. He is over vaccinated and on the way out as it is. Recently again I had to go because of eye infection he developed - they gave him drops - than in two weeks after no improvement - I went again - this time a doctor didn't see him they just charged $180 and gave him another type of drops and some pills. 2 more weeks - my dog was literary going blind - I called and they sent me to a specialist - I called the two available in the city - appointments were not available till the ends of September - and entire month to wait in this ma condition ... so ultimately I called his breaded and she suggested to take a sample of the eye discharge and to test in a lab what kills the bacteria which was done by the most wonderful vet called Greenwhich village animal hospital- I just put the new medication in his eyes and it hasn't been even 3 hours and he already can open his eyes. His recovery is also the reason I am writing this review - how simple it would have been if West Chelsea offered this test right away so my dog doesn't have to suffer for an entire month. I would not be going there and I am just done with trusting that they know what they are doing. Under line I have to mention that I did have a good communication with the doctors - they were calling back and discussing his state. read more

I got mixed feelings about this place. It's pretty pricey but the facilities are super nice. It feels like there's always an upsell every time we tried to get vaccinations for our puppy. For instance, we tried to get shots for him multiple times, but each time they refused to give him shots or wanted to put them off for various reasons. It almost felt like going to a psychic, or buying a used car. For instance, I feel as if they capitalize on new puppy parents' fears and willingness to provide the best for their puppies. It seemed like we had so many unnecessary delays in order to stretch out doctors visits. When we brought in our pup, we were asked if we had any concerns, and we just said we wanted to get his scheduled shots as determined by the Humane Society. single shot, but our pup sneezed. The vet said he should be prescribed some antibiotics to make sure he doesn't have anything. Okay, fine, we said we would reschedule the shot for another week. We were sold some Frontline and walked away with a bottle of antibiotics. When we spoke to the vet on the phone again, she asked if he was still sneezing or still sick. She recommended that we should come in and have a look. She said we should get him some antihistimines to make sure he stops sneezing and then get him some shots on a later visit. The next time we come in for an appointment, we saw a different vet. It felt like the same thing. She said he wasn't due for shots even though our schedule said he was behind because we weren't able to get a shot the last time we were in. I guess there's no standard for vaccinations like there is for humans, or different cities/organizations have different schedules? Okay at this point, we were pretty fed up, at like 90 bucks a pop for a vet visit, we felt like we were getting the runaround and they wanted to give us everything other than what we came there for. But I understand their position. You're damned if you do, you're damned if you don't. If something happened to our dog for them not doing anything that would be bad. The vets we got also looked very young, so perhaps the lack of experience would leave them to be extra cautious too. Other issues were we wanted them to fax a prescription to Costco pharmacy to get heartgard (seriously super cheap!), and it took multiple phone calls to get this done. I was going to give this place 2*, but that's unfair. I think they did a decent job, but we would have been long term patients if we did not feel they were trying to suck us dry. read more

As other reviews have warned this practice tends to find ways to charge extra for unnecessary tests. As a physician, I came prepared to request for specific vaccinations that my dog needed based on the minimal exposure risk she has to certain infections (ie, she does not go to dog runs or wooded areas - she strictly stays on the street and I have been extremely careful given that I have a toddler at home) I was looking for a general physical exam to make sure my 6 yr old german shepherd was healthy and an update on her bordetella vaccine. The vet noticed she lost 3 lbs and tried to indicate that maybe my dog was developing an illness - she did not consider that it was likely that my german shepherd lost some muscle mass from me no longer taking her on regular runs since I had my baby (which I mentioned to her). She wanted me to come back in the next week to have my dog's weight checked. The practice charged me a biohazard disposal fee but my dog only received an intra-nasal vaccine - there was no syringe to dispose of (no blood exposure at all - to/from my pet)! From the visit, I felt she was trying to make me feel more concerned about my dog's health than I needed to be considering my dog is only 6 yrs old with no alarm symptoms - which would have lead to unnecessary (and expensive) tests had I not been more informed given that I am in healthcare myself. I will be looking for another practice. If you live in UWS - I recommend Lincoln Square Vet Hospital. read more

My pets have been patients here for several years. All the vets I've met have been great. For this very reason, I've continued coming here even after moving to another neighborhood. At this point, I'm sad to say I won't be coming here anymore because of the absolutely atrocious service from the front desk. I've witnessed a woman roll her eyes at a customer who asked her a very polite question about scheduling. I've had the same lady slam medication for my dogs, that I was purchasing that day, angrily on the counter. After that, I decided not to bother purchasing my dog's meds here, but then I realized they can't even coordinate with online pharmacies correctly or in a timely manner. Lastly I've called and been put on hold for 10+ minutes, only to hang up and call again and suddenly someone at the front desk can speak to me (this has happened so many times, for simple things like creating an appointment) There needs to be greater accountability among the front desk staff because they are the first face we have to interact with. I hate the idea of having to deal with a toxic staff when my dog is feeling unwell. Too many of them have a chip on their shoulder and they go out of their way to be unpleasant to you. Granted, not all of them are like this and many are super helpful and great, but there's enough bad apples here to ruin a good thing. I can't believe anyone is willing to pay money to deal with the awful treatment when they can visit hundreds of other clinics with better, more organized customer care. read more

I have two dogs, one older and with significant genetic medical issues, so I'm quite particular about where I bring my dogs. WCVH is a very professional, up-to-date, clean establishment. Vets are knowledgeable and worked quickly to establish a rapport with me and my dogs. I gave four stars because they are very profit-oriented (understandable due to location), but I've caught a couple overcharges, which which they reduced after an 'investigation.' One other thing, I found one of the doctors somewhat of a contrarian (argumentative?) when delivering advice, which could have been due to a cultural or language barrier, but every other one has been great. For a concise example, she (vet) says, "she needs to eat often bc of blood sugar issues." I say, "that's fine, I just free feed her now so she never dips or feels hungry. She then says, "no, you shouldn't free feed." So I said, "ok, but earlier you said that due to her size and age, she should eat every couple hours to not go hypoglycemic. Does this mean I need to feed her every couple hours and take the bowl up each time?" She responds, "no, it's not necessary to take it up each time." read more

Pros: -Able to make appointment for next day -Staff was friendly Cons: -A checkup for my two dogs plus 6 months of flea/tick medication was almost $1800! -I have never waited so long for a vet appointment--95 minutes, with only a smattering of customers in the lobby and a full front desk staff. The vet upsold me on running blood tests for my dogs that I found were not truly needed (without telling me they were hundreds of dollars each). I had to have the front desk person repeat the total because I just could not believe it. I won't return, myself. read more

Our 1 year old MalShi which has never had any major health issues to date got sick over the weekend and we called and got in to see these folks on monday morning. They were very helpful from the beginning with getting an appointment asap and were just asked to bring his vaccination record. Check in was easy, nice spacious waiting area and not much waiting. Saw Dr. Canales and Jessica who were very knowledgeable, helpful and great with our puppy. Their cost was reasonable and while they discussed options available for us if the current treatment did not work, they did not try to upsell us with treatments or medications like most other vets. My rescue pit bull that is 9 years old was diagnosed with severe arthritis that truly effected his walking abilities and his quality of life. My original vet wasn't able to provide the type of solution that I agreed with. I went to West Chelsea Vet and met with Dr.Hyla Gayer who truly turned my dog life around. Although not 100% he is able to walk short distances with less pain. She prescribed him medication, supplements and prescribed dog food that truly is improving his life. Front desk experience is really disorganized and slow. They have no app or technology to communicate (only phone) and keep answering the phone when you are there and trying to check in and always put you on hold for a long time when you call (literally every time you call). Good doctors but their whole process of dealing with customers and billing is really slow and inefficient. Someone on their management team needs to experience this inefficient process for themselves and bring the place out of the 1900s into the 2020s. read more
