Unprofessional vet clinic - I would avoid this place and not recommend it to anyone looking for a good vet! They don't care about your pets, they only care about the money. Also, if you were thinking of hiring the vet tech Tatiana as a pet sitter -- DON'T! She missed a dose of our cat's medicine, didn't clean the litter box or change the water daily, and then scammed us by asking for more money afterwards. We'd been going to Rivergate for several years. Over the past couple years, my girl has been showing signs of Cushing's, which was finally diagnosed in April 2025. Dr. Kross referred us to a fantastic internist at Blue Pearl - so I'm grateful for that. Unfortunately, Sadie's health declined quickly and she was diagnosed with 2 brain tumors and a mass on her spleen. I was unsure about how to handle the next steps. I emailed Rivergate asking for guidance on euthanasia. I heard nothing. A few days later, I called them. No call back. Eventually, I ended up scheduling at-home euthanasia for her peaceful passing through Paws of Peace. I received a lovely condolence card from her internist at Blue Pearl. I also received one from her neurologist, who diagnosed her tumors. But from Rivergate? Absolutely nothing. They never returned my email/call. They never mentioned Sadie's passing. No card. No acknowledgement whatsoever. They literally just ghosted us during the hardest medical phase of her life!!! I was left with a very bad taste regarding Rivergate's TRUE care and concern for our pets. Zero support. Zero call backs. I was left on my own to make the hardest medical decision of her life. That's unacceptable. I'd never bring my pets there again, knowing how they handle end of life care. read more

My dog has been seeing Dr Kross here and he is fantastic, to be clear. However the receptionists are the ABSOLUTE worst. They rarely pick up the phone and that is their job. My dog has been getting tested for cancer and I have followed up multiple times to get the results. Anyone who has a pet knows how nerve-racking waiting for these results can be. The results finally came in (though I spent a week trying to get the receptionists to even answer the phone...) but I was told that my doctor would not be in for the next few days. Since I had already waited a week (and if the test is positive my dog needs immediate treatment), I asked them to put me on a callback list for the other doctors by end of day. NO one called me back that day. I called almost four times between 4 and 6pm (pre-close) and no one picked up. This is beyond unacceptable since we are talking about the results of a cancer test. I would highly suggest working on your customer service and getting new and competent receptionists who can do the bare minimum of picking up the phone or emailing an invoice on time (not days after, after following up). read more

About 8 years ago when Dr Kross was my go to vet I couldnt have been happier this was why I went back when I realized my cat was sick, even though I lived in Downtown Brooklyn. Dr Kross had always been so kind and tender and just a good vet. Well unfortunately (like many of the other reviewers here) I had an absolutely terrible experience with Rivergate now that Dr Eve and Dr Kaminski are the main practitioners. They diagnosed my cat with kidney disease and they couldnt have been less helpful. They never gave me a proper prognosis and even tried to get me to do dental work on my cat who was very ill. No one ever sat down with me and explained what options I had. Dr Eve was nice enough, but very inexperienced and when she had to go on PTO (yes, this is how she and her office described a vacation to me) she left me in the hands of Dr Kaminski who was just really unfriendly and never even followed up. Until this day, no one from their office has called or emailed to ask me how my cat was doing. Not one person. That is truly despicable. Im not going to go into all of the details of how bad my experience was, but I wouldnt go to Dr Kaminski if she was the last vet in NYC. She was unkind and the whole entire office was stressed out the days she was at the practice. I wish I had read the Yelp reviews before I went back to Rivergate expecting the same tender and kind experiences I had with Dr Kross. It's a pity he sold his practice to people like this. He is such a good man and his practice's reputation and his kindness are the reasons why people keep coming back, only to be treated like your beloved pet doesnt matter to them. I have a new vet for my cats now and even if everything isnt always perfect, I never once have felt like my pet and I are some kind of inconvenience for them. read more

Used to think this vet clinic was good but when we had to change vets from male to female then things changed for the worse. Dr. Kross is the best Vet in NYC and perhaps the entire USA. He is caring, respectful and considerate. He loves animals and carefully explains how you can care for your pet and even extend their lives. I have used Dr. Kross for all my pets but recently a dental surgery on my 13 year old best friend, Frisky. I was apprehensive about surgery on an older dog but he assured me she would be okay and she made it through. I cannot recommend him enough! I've been here four times and every single time there's been an issue. Aside from the high costs, the vets never know why I've schedule an appt (even when they specifically ask me to come back), have given me conflicting information, and are rather brisk with their explanations. My dog tested positive for heartworm and got treated, and the first vet put her on Simparica Trio even though I asked about Heartguard. The vet today asked why she wasn't on Heartguard for secondary prevention. I told her that her colleague at the clinic prescribed this medication to us, which she should have known from the beginning. It's very clear to me that the vets do not read about my dog before they see her because every time it's a surprise to them that she has a history of heartworm. They never give you the bill before you pay so would definitely ask for this before you pay. They charged me for tests that I would have never approved. Their billing is also very inconsistent. My friend and I went two days apart, both for first visits--one of us got 15% off for the first visit, the other got charged full price. read more

We switched to Rivergate, under Dr. Kross' practice a little over 3 years ago after horrible experience at the money grabbing 'West Village Veterinary Hospital'. Apologies to Dr. Kross & Staff for it took this long to write a review- your little patients don't give us much time off. While I can't talk about others in this practice, between Dr. Kross & Leo, we have always had positive experience. Dr. Kross is so patient with my ramblings & mommy questions every time we take our Maltese boys over. He's never in a rush to shoo us out the door, makes it a point to call & check in on his patients when they've been sick. Compared to West Village Vet Hospital, this place is somewhat reasonable (judging by elevated NYC prices). Highly recommend Dr. Kross & Leonardo Villa (does all our travel paperwork). Only reason they don't get 5 stars is due to some of the front desk staff. read more

The first time we went there i had a good experience, I don't know if it's because it was my first appointment. But then the two other appointments the Dr was in a mood and she has rushing. She wasn't taking the time to listen to my concerns. She did not even listen to my dog with her stethoscope. I'm a Dr myself and that's the most basic thing to do. Also, I wanted to buy my prescriptions online like at chewy because the medications are less than buying it at the vet here. She was unhappy when I asked her for the prescription so I can order it online and she gave such an attitude about it. I'm giving the 1 star for the other staff who were nice. I really appreciate this practice. The people that work here are kind across the board and my pup has seen several vets here and they are all caring individuals who keep you and your pet's best interests at heart. My pup had some tummy trouble last year and when asked what to do they gave me a very honest answer of, "Hey we can run an expensive test that probably won't tell us anything or you can try x. And we recommend trying x." I didn't feel like I was being pushed to get something that would be additive to them, but not necessarily helpful for me or my pup. This is a terrific practice. We've been loyal customers for a number of years and each time we recommend Dr Kross and his Associates to other pet owners they tell us how pleased they were with the services they received. Today was special. In the midst of the pandemic we were afforded white glove service! We have been sheltering in place in NJ but when Rosie needed her yearly checkup we drove into NYC. We had an appointment at Rivergate and were met outside the office. A technician took Rosie from our car and brought her into the office for her exam, shots, even a nail trim. Twenty minutes later Dr. Kross himself brought her back to us. We couldn't ask for anything better. read more

My husband and I were searching for a new vet ever since our dog was sent to the ER last year for pancreatitis and we needed a third opinion about what we could do about our cat who suffers from ataxia. Not only is Dr. Kaminski , Dr. Kross, and team very professional in everything they do but are very knowledgeable and cover issues that other vets and even the ER have overlooked. There was one antibiotic prescription that the ER wanted us to give to our dog and Dr. Kaminski stopped us because that it was incorrect for his pancreatitis situation and might have made it worse. Unlike some other vets, Rivergate seems to know more about pet food and digestion more than other ones we have been to. Dr. Kaminski even jokingly dubbed their clinic as a pancreatitis hospital since they have received so many to them due to digestive-related issues. (She is really smart and has a great sense of humor by the way and reminds me of Cameron Diaz with her voice and personality, lol!) Of course, they all love animals and treat your pets well under their care. This contrasts with anything we experienced with former hospitals where in one place, the assistants accidentally cut up dog's underside when shaving off fur so places were bleeding nor another place where his nose was scraped raw from him pressing his nose against his crate's door from trying to escape. (Yes, where you take your pet makes a difference. There's power to the purse, everyone, use it so we can keep all service providers accountable and sensitive to what they do. Vet or human medical work can be very hard but there are ways to help scared pets calm down if they really care & are smart about it!) Their secretaries are terrific too. One recently sent me a copy of an invoice for one visit last year and put the month that it was from in the subjectline to help me easily distinguish it from another one they sent me for a recent visit we made. Dr. Kaminski is an excellent veterinarian for cats. Her helpers during our recent visits were both also very good. Caution re: younger or temporary employees at the front desk. If you call them out on rudeness or inefficiency - the iceberg is palpable, and you wonder what they might have done to the prescriptions. There is one more experienced older woman who must be otherwise holding down the fort, who may have recently been on vacation. Without her there - catch as catch can. There is another male manager - apparently not respected enough to have his potential admonishment or redirection followed when I mentioned poor attitudes. read more

Too busy. Wrong diagnosis with 4 visits in 7 days. Infection was missed. Last visit there I let them take my dog at their request to the back room for the day to give him fluids via IV. They did not inform me of any IV problems. I was in waiting room for the entire time and they could have updated me at anytime. End of day he was unable to stand and I took him to animal hospital. Shaving his legs at pet hospital revealed that Rivergate mangled the IV placement - they attempted multiple times in 3 limbs without shaving limbs at all. Rivergate had badly bruised, bloodied, and blistered his three legs. It was shocking to myself and the emergency room vet techs. Rivergate incorrectly placed and tightly wrapped a non-working IV in the 3rd unshaved leg. The leg was so mangled with the misplaced blown out IV that it left him unable to stand. So my dog was alone and in additional intense leg/groin pain from a misplaced IV that didn't work for the entire day in a cage at Rivergate. I will not forgive myself for trusting Rivergate. I hope they are never so negligent again. read more

Our puppy Libby has been through a lot (diagnosed with a congenital issue early on) and Dr. Kross has been an absolute god send. In addition, Dr. Kaminski was willing to step in when Libby was her most sick when Dr. Kross was away.
