i could sign under every bad review here, as my experience was exactly the same. horrible customer service & complete lack of professionalism. tacky clientele and poor judgement. or, and be aware of kumar's "free advice". i emailed them (together with other labs i was considering to my prints for the upcoming exhibition) to get a quote describing my order in detail. kumar called me back saying that he can't send the prices over the email as we need to discuss it in person. sounds like a sale call to me, but i thought - fine. i came in to the lab to discuss my order, instead for 30minutes kumar was giving me "free advice" re. how to sell art, and that i should always print large, that my prints were too small for them (FYI, i was printing 27x35, eight of them.. small or not, we are talking about $2k order here), but he can "probably still" do it, however i will never succeed in the art world with these, and i should really look into work of some guys they print (mostly landscape photographers who go to national parks and think they are angle adams, so they print oversize images of trees). blah, blah, blah. at the end of his speech, he said he would email me a quote. i asked him why did he make me to come all the way there- we didn't talk about my order even a bit, and he didn't get any new information about in addition to the one i already emailed him earlier. he walked me to the door saying that there are only few places better than them. i said - yes, duggal, for that matter, and they give quotes over the email or phone, without a need to listen to their sale speech. kumar's reply was - well, if you are hoping to get a better price with us, you won't get it. apparently, i was not getting any price at all, cause one week later i still never got a quote from him. it didn't matter much, because i placed my order with duggal the same day. they explained to me that the paper i was planning to use for my prints (which kumar approved, without even looking, because he was so busy selling himself) is incompatible with plexi glass mount, so i believe it saved me from a costly mistake i would make if i would go with baboo. bottom line - AVOID AT ALL COST! trust your work to professionals only. read more

I keep on getting emails from Baboo asking me to review them so I guess it's time I do. I have gone to Baboo a few times over the years when I wanted high quality, large prints of important digital photos. I chose Baboo because I saw that they specialized in high quality work. Unfortunately, all my experiences were disappointing. I thought my first disappointing experience must be an aberration and so tried them a couple more times. After my last experience I finally learned that it wasn't a one-time aberration but rather consistently poor quality. I don't plan to use them again. My last experience clinched the deal: I had two digital photos I wanted blown up for my wall - they were spectacular shots (one of early morning fog on a hiking trail and another in exquisite late afternoon light). Baboo has signs in their store saying that you must review the prints in the store. If you leave the store with them, the sale is final. When I got home and saw the prints in natural light they were terribly disappointing - the colors were "tired" and dull/flat. No life or energy. I looked at them for ages over the following days and couldn't live with them. They were depressing and not what I "saw" when I took the photos. I did a lot of online research and found a place that does outstanding work (epingo). I emailed the same two photos to them with the same instructions. When I got the prints and compared them side-by-side with Baboo's there was NO comparison - it was night and day. The clarity, the richness of color, is amazing. Epingo also have outstanding client service and people who know what they're doing. They always send me "proofs" and always handle my questions or needs 100% professionally. They also do large custom-sized prints. Even though they are based in California, I now use epingo for all my special high quality photo print needs. Whoever you decide to use, I suggest you try someplace other than Baboo. I also agree with other reviewers and found Baboo's client service poor (impatient, annoyed, slightly condescending) but that story will make my review too long. read more

This is one of my favorite service bureaus, of anywhere! Their quality is insanely precise and immaculate - I've had gallery prints of 24", 36", 60", and 72" made at Baboo, and their pre-press guy actually phones me if he finds a defect in one of my photos before printing it. Normally I wouldn't trust anyone to touch my work, but I've found their color correction, sharpness, resolution adjustment, dust-and-scratch removal, etc., to be even better than my own compulsive attention to detail. It makes me sad to see them slammed by complaints here on yelp; I think those reviewers may be misunderstanding the difference between a museum-quality shop and a discount print from someplace like Adorama. (I also love Adorama, but I use them for my vacation snapshots, not for museum-quality artwork ready to sell for the thousands of dollars my prints fetch in galleries and private sales.) Baboo is one of the cheapest places in the neighborhood, AND is consistently better quality than the other three shops I tried. (Only Duggal can compete on quality, and they're WAY more pricey). Anyone who thinks they're expensive must be comparing them to a lower tier of service. Regarding completion dates, it's a good idea to communicate clearly if something's time-sensitive. Normally I don't care when a job is processed, but when I've been in a rush, they've bailed me out multiple times. read more

I took a picture of an orchid on my iphone in Mexico this summer. Since my mother loves orchids I decided to frame it and send it to her. I just googled map searched a digital printer close to my office and Baboo was 2 blocks away. Even though they were super close I never had to step foot in the store. I sent them my orchid picture options via email and they recommended the one that would print the best because it had better color and lighting. They also recommended a gorgeous plexiglass mount which really enhanced the photo and it was not the most expensive option- they cared about the finished product more than making money. They were very upfront about pricing and options. I got the quote in an email and paid online. Last but not least, they shipped the framed print to my mom in Boston via fedex and it arrived on her birthday, as promised. Like I said, I never stepped foot in the store but they made me feel well taken care of and it was really nice to work with a team who executed this project for me reliably, professionally, and on time. I paid just under $200 for everything- printing, framing, shipping and I think I paid a fair price. I would definitely use them again, maybe I'll even make it into the store next time. read more

I had stopped at many photo labs that day before I entered Baboo and it was immediately a different experience. Baboo asked me what I needed and took me to a computer station to understand my project, see the images, and give me his advice: 5 40X30 photographs to be used as dypthics with 5 40X30 paintings. He had many questions and it was a personal approach that I truly appreciated. The next thing I appreciated as well is that quotes are all in writing. And we had quite a few quotes going back and forth in the process of finding the best visual solution for my project and a mutually acceptable budget. Strip tests were done according to schedule and redone until we were both satisfied and the prints were ready when he said they would be. And the packing ! Simply amazing, no twisted tape on the carboard, all flat and even and neatly folded corners. Baboo's advice was invaluable and I am very happy I followed them as the prints look stunning. I've used Baboo since 2007 and recently brought them some expired film that I shot over the past 15 months. They have very reasonable prices for develop only processes and have 2 large light tables to review your negatives on. Baboo is one of the few places left that will accurately and efficiently develop black & white film. Last month I brought 4 rolls of Kodak High Speed Infrared and Agfa Scala from California to be developed by them and they had it ready sooner than I needed it! I found Baboo years ago after Duggal completely screwed up a roll of Black & white infrared by exposing it to light. I've also had 30" x 40" prints made from Kodak Color Infrared slides. They covered them with plexiglass and everyone who sees these large prints wants to know where I had then made. Neil says he doesn't like to develop film because of all the chemicals and regulations but I hope they never stop because they're the only place I'll develop my black and white when I can't do it myself! read more

Last week a friend of mine decided to buy one of my photos and have it enlarged to be a signature piece in staging their loft apartment for sale. (The fact that they are moving to Chicago is the sad part of the story...) I've had labs screw up large prints, but the experience at Baboo was second to none. At 60" x 40", any flaws were going to be obvious, but the result is perfection. They used metallic paper and mounted it on plexiglass, and when it was hung in my friends apartment today it almost looked like a 3-D photo. Everyone loved it - the listing broker, the photographer who was there to shoot the apartment for the listing, the associate broker, and of course, my friend. The photo was good - if I do say so myself - but the presentation put it over the top. All thanks to Baboo Digital. I'd recommend them to anyone. read more

I have been using Baboo Digital for 15 years. They work very closely with me. I do not bargain the price with them because their quality is very high and they get the job done. They specialize in working with professional photographers. If you want a bargain you will not get a professionally printed Lambda digital C print, they are professional quality prints that shine above all the others. Look elsewhere for bargains. It's a small staff at Baboo and they all work hard to get the jobs done well and on time. I show my work at galleries and museum shows and am very pleased with their output. They just printed my recent show on Aluminum. Baboo wanted to be sure that I like the results on the metal and gave me test prints for approval. Baboo and his team did an outstanding job turning my late grandfathers framed geometrical drawing/chart that he created for the company he used to work for, Monitor Aerospace, into a digital copy. Baboo then proceeded to print it on a piece of metal. I had a piece made for myself and members of my family. I think my family and I all would have very happy with just a reproduced print that we could all hang up, but per Baboo's suggestion and execution, it was printed on a metal sheet. We were all speechless. This past October I had my second photography exhibition in NYC. After initially working with another printer, I decided to take this collection to Baboo and let him work his magic. The images were printed on metal, in a range of sizes from 16 x 24" - 40 x 60". The result was stunning and beautiful. I am a photographer and have exhibited my work from NYC to Montauk. I sell large format plexiglass photos. I've used a couple of companies in NYC/Long island area but have stuck with Baboo for two years now. Despite what some of the reviews say, I've only had great experiences and results from Baboo. The quality of the materials I find to be excellent. The quality of the staff is great too. When I needed additional work done on any of my pieces, I was able to sit with Neil or Joe and they helped. I absolutely LOVE these guys!! I'm a professional photographer with over 17yrs of experience. The majority of my work is supplied to my clients in a digital file, I am not a "Master Printer" or anything even close to that, but when my clients need prints for Advertising Campaigns I always use these guys!!! I love the quality and the Metallic paper is stunning!! Joe is always very helpful and me being to way I am, I always ask him if we can check files first on his computer, just to make sure the color calibration is consistent with my monitor. Baboo Digital was recommended to me by a well-known famous photographer friend in the Interior Decorating and Architectural fields: he used Baboo Digital many times during his long career. I have used them a few times myself and they do very good work and offer some unique products. For example, the metal prints are quite excellent. Pricing is reasonable for the high quality work they do. I plan to use Baboo Digital for future work and definitely would recommend Baboo for your use. An excellent company. I needed an original artwork scanned to use for the cover of my upcoming book. The final result was a high-quality scan delivered with breakneck speed, professionalism, and courtesy. They took very good care of my artwork while it was in their hands and even provided me with some extra protective covering for it (no charge) for its trip back home. Quality of work is obviously important (and this is something that Baboo Digital provided me), but in this day and age, I cannot emphasize enough how pleasant it is to be treated with dignity and care as a customer. I had a great experience here. I'm glad I didn't listen to the bad reviews - and after such a great experience it actually makes me never want to listen to reviews at all. I had just renovated my place and needed to frame a bunch of different types of art work. Neill spent over an hour and half with my designer and me to help us determine what to do since we were framing non traditional art work from my travels. In one case, he blew up snapshot photos from over 20 years ago. He did a great job and I got the work back quickly. Neill knows this business.
