It had a great setting with strong cascades after much rain in the Cherokee National Forest. Since August, 2023 much of the roads, parking and the original 1933 Bridge were updated and new observation decks from the Bridge make it enjoyable even for the mobility challenged. The base of the falls and swimming holes can be accessed. I dipped my toes in and the water was warmer than expected on a hot humid (80s) day. There are 2 access roads along the Cherohala Skyway and are easy to miss. River Road is easier and seems to show up on GPS. Turkey run is NOT marked, newly paved but had a big fallen tree blocking much of the road. Parking is limited, about 15 parking spots and a steady stream of cars waiting on a weekDay afternoon. It's worth a stop but be prepared for the crowds and limited parking. No restrooms nor anything else. Leave No Trace!

The waterfall itself is easy to get to as it accessible by car, but note the bridge is CLOSING in August 2023 for repairs! There is parking just past the bridge and a great place to stretch your legs and get a good view. To the left there is a rocky staircase that can take you down to the bottom of the falls. I say staircase, but that's being generous. It's more of a variety of rocks stacked and over time have settled into the earth to allow you a way to get down and up. The water is calm enough to get into on the sides, but I wouldn't recommend going too far in near the falls as the current is quite strong.

Hike in is about one mile on steep and narrow trail that has a lot of roots and rocks. It was dry so not slippery. Would be really slippery if wet and muddy. *Drive in is a little rough once you exit highway 68 onto Witt Rd (341) for about three miles. We made it in a sedan on a dry day. Would need 4x4 if raining or snowing. Enjoy this and leave it better than you found it!

It is a Cherokee name that is spelled Tailkwa when properly written and sometimes spelled Telliquo, Tahlequah and Tellico. While the original meaning has been somewhat lost, the word "Talikwa" is thought to be "the open place where the grass grows". The covered structure is approx. 125 feet, but the approaches add an additional 100 feet to the overall length. Completed in June of 2006, this steel and wood bridge sits on a stone-clad arching foundation that makes it very attractive and photogenic. It is actually gated (a covered bridge first for me) because it is a private entrance for the home just across the river, so be respectful and don't block it. We passed it on our way to Bald River Falls and sat eating nearby it @ Iron Works Grille, but I totally forgot to stop and take close up pics when passing it again on our return. Oh well, with the numerous waterfalls in the area, I'm sure I will be back sometime soon for a hike and I'll get better pics then. But if you happen to love covered bridges and find yourself on the 43-mile National Scenic Byway known as Cherohala Skyway (a blended word from Cherokee & Nantahala), its worth stopping. This stay completely changed my opinion of KOAs--in the best way…read more We booked a last-minute overnight stay at the Tellico Plains KOA, and they were incredibly accommodating. Since the tent camping area was mostly empty, we were able to spread out a bit and even had the option of camping in an RV site if we wanted. We chose a quiet corner of the tent camping area, and it worked out perfectly. The entire campground was exceptionally clean. The bathrooms were spotless, the pool area was well maintained, and everything felt cared for. The only amenity we noticed missing was a laundry facility, but for an overnight stay, that wasn't an issue for us. One thing I really appreciated was the location. Unlike many KOAs that seem to sit right off major highways, this one felt much more peaceful. Even though it's located near a main road, mountain traffic is nothing like city traffic. We hardly noticed any vehicles, and it felt surprisingly quiet. Now, if you're looking for complete solitude or an adults-only camping experience, a KOA probably isn't the right fit. Families and kids are part of the experience, and you'll see children riding bikes, playing, and enjoying the campground--which is exactly what campgrounds like this are for. Fortunately, by the time we arrived, most of the kids were winding down for the evening, so it never affected our stay. For us, it was a wonderful overnight stop. Friendly staff, clean facilities, a peaceful setting, and exactly what we needed after a long day of traveling. I'd absolutely stay here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, family-friendly campground in the Tellico Plains area.

Back in sites are level site to site but need 4 to 8 inches front to back. Close to all the twistie fun motorcycle roads. And central yo amazing natural attractions like The Lost Sea and Bald River Falls. Tubing at Big Bear Tubing on the Tellico River about 5 miles away, Tubing at Webbs Tubing on the Hiwasee River about 16 miles away and White Water Rafting on the Ocoee River just down from the Hiwassee. Pool Side Happy Hour on Thursday, Karaoke and Paint n Sip and occasional live bands at the camp rec center, The Porch. Huge 4th of July with fireworks, live bands and food trucks, if you're lucky enough to be here then. This is my fourth year in a row here. Love it.

There's even a spot to work on your bike, motorcycle jack, tire changing station, Laundry facility, there's ice there's beer fridge, and so much more here that you would not expect. We weren't able to make it through the front gate into the campground with our vehicles. The road…read moreleading in requires a sharp, 90 degree turn to the right onto a 12ish foot concrete drive passing over a culvert, between two gate posts. There's a drop-off on both sides of the concrete pad. To the left, you have a steep mountain, preventing you from swinging wide and lining up your trailer tires. Anything long and on a hitch/fifth wheel/gooseneck is going to struggle to make it through the front gate. We are 63' when hitched and my husband is skilled at navigating tight turns and spaces. When our trailer tilted 45 degrees because its tires were headed into the culvert, and our dually was as close to the left gate post as possible, our cortisol spiked and we had to leave. This was particularly surprising because we had shared our length at the time of booking. I did scout ahead in a regular car upon our arrival, and it was pretty and peaceful. We would have loved to have stayed, but even the size of the sites and hilly terrain inside the campground made me nervous in a big rig. If you are small, you will have a great time. I share this so no one else in a 44ft fifth wheel or even a long Class A with a tow-behind has to try to find alternate camping at at the last minute in this small town. Scout it out before booking.
