While I had a fun trip and a fantastic guide (Ashley B.), I am not happy with the owner / management of Ocoee Outdoors (OO) / Outdoor Adventure Rafting OAR, thus my 2-star rating this time vs. a typical 5-star rating. My cousin and I separately reserved our full-day rafting trip several weeks ahead of time and we specifically requested James C. to be our guide, based on my previous experience with James' navigation of the river and his focus on safely having a fun experience. Not only did we confirm this reservation, but I went to OAR 3 days before our May 24, 2026 trip, spoke with the owner and confirmed our request for James C. When we arrived for this rafting trip at 8:30am, we learned that James was not going to be our guide. It seems he had another engagement (officiating a wedding). What greatly annoys me about this situation is this special request, for reasons previous stated, was documented and confirmed and we had a face-to-face discussion about this request, 3 days before rafting. It seems to me the owner should have coordinated this request with the guide and if he was not going to be available, this should have been known long before we arrived for the trip and I should have been called / notified of the change before arriving for the trip, giving me a chance to reschedule. I planned ahead for a reason and don't like last minute surprises, especially when I'm about to participate in a risky activity. If I had not had a traveling companion with me, I would have canceled the trip on the spot and requested a refund as this situation was completely unacceptable. I've rafted with Ocoee Outdoors exclusively on every Ocoee River rafting adventure I've had (approximately 8-10 trips) primarily because they (OO) place a great emphasis on guide experience and safety. What this new owner / manager did in this situation was most inconsiderate to a long-time loyal customer and I will keep in mind this experience before I book a future rafting adventure on the Ocoee and before I consider recommending Ocoee Outdoors or OAR to any friends who want to raft the Ocoee. read more

May 3, I had the most exhilarating whitewater rafting trip, led by James C. I got to fulfill a bucket-list item of doing the full trip ... upper and middle sections (about 5-6 hours of rafting) and "Riding the Bull". The water was high and fast. James' Guide skills gave us so many fun events on the river and, most of all, kept us safe. Another great Guide on this trip was Josh who was always helpful with information and attending to PPE fit details. I've rafted with Ocoee Outdoors for many years and on many trips. I have been down the Ocoee every year at least once or twice normally with groups or one or two rafts of family. The first place I ever used was Ocoee a Outdoors. I have tried others that have lower prices but always come back for several reasons. This years plunge was early September and just realized I never review my favorite outfitter. They are located closes to the lower Dam and the oldest outfitter in the area. By far the most trained and experienced group of guides, which is important for those going for first time, cautious of water or kids. For those that go a lot it's fun to get rookie guides because they hit more rocks and easier to throw out a family member. Lol They know how and where to have fun, if your more adventuress. They take their time going down river. Surfing the eddies, stopping at a place called "jump rock" where you can see the power of the river and jump into a safe current area. Then into the doldrums where you can jump out and swim or get pushed out. Lol. With the right group you can even ambush your guide here. Near the bottom ask to "ride the bull" for an wild adventure on the final table saw Rapids. Nothing like entering the rapid face down getting thrown back. Great times. PS: always listen to the safety briefing each visit. It keeps you and members safe. read more

Many of you many have already been rafting, likely down the Ocoee, possibly even with Ocoee Outdoors. I have been down the Ocoee well over 30 times through the years, and several times with Ocoee Outdoors. Top notch outfitter! Well, our group went with Ocoee Outdoors recently and had a great time. From the Front Desk ladies to Norma our bus driver to all the guides, we had an excellent trip For our group, we had a treat with Cleve as our guide - he's been doing this since '89 and knows his stuff. As I said, I've been down the Ocoee, many times, but I learned several new facts about the river from Cleve that no one had mentioned before. As an extra treat for all, we actually had a Bald Eagle fly down the river over our head - this did not happen often. When you go with Ocoee Outdoors, ask for Cleve. The whole day was an incredible time with everyone in our raft having a good time. Oh, we took the Full Day trip which included a fabulous lunch on the Upper Section near the Olympic Center. All of the rapids were quite good, but alas we did not get to do any surfing. We also learned that all the Outfitters are currently in negotiations with the government that could cause a serious negative impact on the rafting industry in the next year or so. BEWARE!!! my entire family of 4 almost drown.. tHe most horrific experience of my life.. we had to seek trauma counseling. The river was entirely to high and we all fell out including the guide immediately after getting on boat.... after fighting for our life for what seems like hours..(prob only 6-10 min) my daughter rescued my other daughter and the guide.. they were hesitant to take us to the side of the river and let us get out but we insisted.. it happened immediately as we entered in class 4 rapids.. this should be illegal for anyone under the age 16 and is advanced rapids.. please do NOT take children.. We did not ask for our money back, we emailed the company to express our concern as we did not want to write a bad review on yelp and hurt there business.. however.. they NeVER responded.. I have since heard of several people dying on the river and I guess these companies do a good job of not reporting! Please please know this is a very serious advanced rapid and you need an experienced guide.. I am so disappointed that they never responded to our email (I am sure for legal reasons) but I have had time to process and want to make sure other people are warned of the dangers.. i thought my children were dead and thought for sure I would not make it Bc we took on so much water.. read more

A fun afternoon. We went because of groupon, but really they offer about the same deal there. I wasn't sure if it would be worth it, but after we were done, I'm so glad. How much fun. The guides were great and taught us how to do tricks (flips, upside down, etc). They also included everyone. We had young and old in the group and the guides got everyone in on the action. Patrick was our guide and he was incredibly rude and hostile to our group. We had a 16 year old in the raft and he berated and picked on her every chance he got. He was not helpful to her in anyway and basically yelled at us through out our trip. He bragged about how he had been on this river for 20 years and knew it better than we did. We did our best to follow his strict instruction, and when we were out of sync when paddling or didn't hear his commands because of the rushing water, he would just yell at us and say smart ass things about how he has given up hope on our group. Our group was not hostile towards him and we were pleasant and listened to his commands and all but the 16 yr old were experienced rafter, but as the day wore on, our trip we paid $80 each for was totally not worth it. At the end of our trip, our raft completely flipped over, even though we were following his commands and we all almost drowned trying to fight the rapids and hold onto to the flipped raft. It was horrible. This company needs to get rid of this guide or severely reprimand him before he costs someone their life on the river. read more
