Located in an inconspicuous corner of Henrietta and Alliance, Babylon Restaurant boasts Middle Eastern cuisine that is a step above the rest! I ordered the Lamp Chops and got Lentil soup as my side! My friend got the Shawarma Plate! So. Much. Food! I was craving the gaminess of lamb and the lamb chops hit the spot! Gnawing on bone while inhaling rice and hummus between spoonfuls of lentils and the freshness of salad; could you imagine a more satisfying meal? Make sure to get Pita on the side so you can snack on some pita and hummus! We rounded out the meal with a Baklawa that is quite literally out of this world. Absolutely unlike any baklava I've had before! Crisp sheets of thin filo pastry that are light and laminated, each individual layer just separate enough to mimic biting into a fresh apple. The hint of sweetness from the honey and pistachio, not overwhelming or underwhelming, but perfectly whelming! Ooh, I'm making myself want some of their Baklawa right now! All in all, I was thoroughly surprised and pleased with my experience at Babylon Restaurant, and for how little I had heard of it before, am highly recommending it as a nice little hidden Rochester gem! read more

I've eaten here a few times with my husband and kids and always get the Pompano fish that comes with rice and salad. It is seasoned and fried (grilled?) to perfection. My wife and I are huge fans of Mediterranean / Middle Eastern foods and are always looking for a new place to try and Babylon fit the bill. Also, having lived in the Middle East for years, my standards for Middle Eastern / Mediterranean food are very high. As far as Middle Eastern restaurants in Rochester go, my go-to's are Sultan and Dalias; and Sinbad's when I get a chance. We tried the following dishes: chicken thighs with rice (which came with Greek salad and soup); veggie combo platter; manakeesh za'atar; and chicken kabob pita. Here are my thoughts on each item: 1) Chicken thighs with rice - very, very generously portioned meal (especially when factoring in that they include soup and salad). Chicken was good, but didn't have any distinct flavor (the chicken came with skin on and I tend to remove the skin when I eat chicken, so it's possible I missed the flavor. Also came with a cup of soup (I chose lentil) and Greek salad. The soup was quite good - it wasn't too salty but it was tasty. This was a huge amount of food. Easily enough for 2 meals. I'd give this 4 out of 5. 2) My wife got a veggie platter. Everything I tried was good - hummus, dolma, falafel, and tabbouleh. The tabbouleh was very good; everything else was just good. 3) I also tried a chicken kabob pita (not the same day). It was very good, very garlicky. I'd give this 4 out of 5. 4) We shared a manakeesh za'atar. This is one of my go to's whenever trying a new middle eastern restaurant. This was actually my favorite manakeesh za'atar that I've had locally (for reference, I've had this dish at Sultan, Dalia's, and Levantine's). This was my favorite version of any that I've had locally - it was tasty but well-seasoned (not over-seasoned, not too salty, not too oily). My only complaint is that the pita wasn't crisp. My wife liked it as well, but agreed that it could have been more crisp. I'd give this 4.2 out of 5. All in all, I'd say that this place is better than Sultan's and possibly a shade better than Dalia's (just because you get so much more for your money) read more

This is one of the places that unless you are specifically looking for it you would just drive by. It is on the end of a non descript strip mall. This location has housed a few different restaurants over the years. I was very glad that I took the chance and stopped in. I will start with the dessert which was the best and I mean best baklava that I have had in a very long time. Not too much of any one ingredient but just the right amount of Honey and Walnuts. Then I tried a dessert called znood(not sure of the spelling) which to my understanding means the upper arms of a woman. It was very tasty. I for the first time got a Beef Kabob which had nice sized pieces of steak that were nice and tender. My wife got a Lamb shawarma pita which was so juicy and full of flavor. Yes the service was a bit slow but were only two people working and they apologized and gave extra pieces of the baklava and znood. I will be happy to go back again as they are not far from my house. read more

My family ordered food to go the reviews seemed like it was a good place to eat. It was finished when they said it would be. Food was not good, weird smoke taste to the babaganoush. The Food was incredible! Everything was just so delicious! I got the Lamb shank it was so delicious and tender like butter! My mom got the chicken Shawarma is said it was so delicious! The dishes were flavorless and they got our orders wrong. The meats were dry and lacked flavor. They added beef in the Shawarma plate when we clearly specified not to add it. We ordered two such dishes and only one of them had the correct stuff. Also, we ordered three combo/platter plates but received only two pita breads. Also, we ordered okra soup but instead received bean soup. There are quite a few Mediterranean restaurants which offer very high quality food for similar or lower prices. Had a delicious meal - beef/rice dolmas as an appetizer, the Shawarma combo plate for dinner, and finally, baklava for dessert. All were excellent - fresh and flavorful. My only regret - I don't live locally - I live in Denver CO and was passing through on my way to the east coast. Like this Place. The staff is earnest and friendly. We had Falafel Pitas as take out, and ate them on their patio. Liked the style and the portion size. One problem i have had with with local Middle Eastern places in Rochester is that they often leave the vegetables in very large chunks. I would like to bring a cutting board and chop them up into better pieces. Babylon does a better job with the veggies. read more

Great new restaurant in Henrietta. Went there Saturday afternoon, 26 Feb 2022 for lunch. Split a Shawarma Lamb pita wrap, Falafel Pita, & Taboule Salad, baklava & some type of tea with GF. All were fresh, delicious, excellent ! We also split a bowl of lentil soup. It was good, but maybe a bit plain (had it last, might have been smarter to have it before the more flavorful food). The bread that came with the soup was fresh & excellent ! The restaurant was not crowded (after usual lunch hour), or too loud, and service was fast. This is my first restaurant review ever. (NOT a foodie, but I have occasionally dined at various (Chinese, Indian, Vietnamese, Korean, Mediterranean, etc ) ethnic restaurants - including Sinbads & Aladdins in Rochester - over the past 35 years, and I will say I was as pleased with the meal as the various things I tried at Sinbads and Aladdins).
