Decent food, good staff, obnoxious and drunk owner. I visited here with my family for dinner. During dinner we left my aunt at the table and the rest of us went for a walk down the street. When we came back, Jim was at our table talking to my aunt. She has CP so she's a bit hard to understand. Jim was showing his frustration, and insensitivity to the handicapped. He thought we skipped out on our bill....ok well we didn't and we're back, so all is ok now, right? Nope, he shows us how drunk and obnoxious he really is by pounding his fists on the table and yelling. I swear he was working himself up to hit someone, which might have been my aunt had we not left in a hurry. His friend was sympathetic to us, and was trying to calm him down the whole time. What a disgusting drunk display he put on. I hope you never get into a simple misunderstanding with Bacchus' owner Jim, because he will probably be ready for a fight. The only thing good about this place is the nice atmosphere and location. I had a terrible overbaked pizza there and my fiance had a overcooked pesto pasta that looked like really unappetizing. They forgot to add the fresh mozzarella she asked for so they took the plate from her without asking, threw the already overcooked pasta back in the pan with some mozzarella and returned it to her without her fork. WTF? The impatient waitress kept pestering us with the phrase, "You guys all set?" while we were finishing our beers after that disappointing meal. A small pasta plate and a personal sized pizza with two small salads ran us $40 into the ground. I will say the bar was nice and had a friendly barkeep. Don't buy into the "wood-fired" pizza BS...go to DeFazio's and then go to Bacchus to drink. read more

I have been here twice so far and both times I have been very happy. I love wood fired pizza and Bacchus makes some very high quality delicious pizza. The pizza are a little expensive compared to the size but I'll take quality to quantity any day. Additionally they have a great beer list. The venue is classier than most pizza places, however I went in a little grubby and nobody seemed to mind. read more

I took away one star because it wasn't really allot of food in our opinions. So that's the negative. The positive is finding off street parking on a Saturday night wasn't hard for some reason. The pizza was good (Albeit tiny, for 3 adults to share), and the desserts were good, (I had the lemon raspberry thingy, but I pretty much handed it off to my sister & then boyfriend because it was too sweet for me) my boyfriend had the chocolate peanut butter thing, and he loved it. So a 14 inch pizza, 2 desserts, a beer, an ice tea and a juice, for $50 including the $8 or $9 dollar tip we left. Noone was full when we left, sadly, but we didn't feel jilted or anything. Our server was so nice, we sat outside and it was a cool evening to do so, the guys inside were cool with us snapping pics of the groovey face oven thing before we left and they even offered to let us come behind the counter....but I'm shy so we scampered away once acknowledged. This restaurant is ALWAYS delicious, the specialty pizzas are really great, trust the combinations because they are worth it. The appetizers aren't my thing, I would rather eat more of the pizza, but, the salads are delicious, but the garlic bulb was not quite as filling as I had expected, but still really ok. The servers are ALWAYS friendly and accommodating. The pizzas are really delicious, but be careful when you are with a group, you will need more pizzas than you think. read more

Bacchus manages to please with every visit. The management engages naturally and pleasantly with clients. The pizza is excellent. The clientele is regular, warm and friendly. Of course I have my favorites but the quality of their offerings is consistent across the board. For my money, the secret of great pizza is in the quality of the crust. Whatever is on top is enhanced or is made disappointing by the quality of the humble crust. Bacchus crusts are exceptional. Toppings are always fresh. Offerings run from fairly traditional to very interesting and creative. If you want to try something truly yummy and different. order BACON, FIGS, AND GARLIC INFUSED OLIVE OIL SAUCE. read more

after reading all the glowing reviews posted here, i feel compelled to add mine. it does not glow. nor, in my experience, does the food at bacchus. ate there last night for the second time in four years, along with a friend who loves bacchus and is a regular, and another who was there for the first time. they both ordered salads and individual pizzas and were not disappointed in their selections. i, on the other hand, tried the pasta and was completely turned off by what i got. on my previous visit, four years ago, i had tried the pizza, which was mediocre at best. my friend on that occasion had ordered the spicy rome's inferno pasta, which he shared with me (owing, in part, to my bland pizza), and which i remember was delicious. so last night, i ordered from the pasta section of the brief--and unchanged--menu. i decided to try "making my own" dish of cavatappi, spinach, and sausage in olive oil (a listed sauce). i also asked for it a little spicy and flavored with a few anchovies. what arrived was a pile of greasy sausage surrounded by a cup (at best) of pasta. a small handful of spinach had been thrown in, and the entire dish was sitting in a pool of olive oil which had no flavor of its own other than that imparted by the meat. it was close to $17, as additional items are variously priced. i ate only the pasta, adding parmesan from the table's dispenser in an attempt to offset the heavy oiliness. it was a completely unappealing and unsatisfying dish. so my advice is go for the rome's inferno, the snug and comfortable atmosphere, the fine beer selection, and the service, which was friendly and laid back. the wine selection is also good, and the bartender was very accommodating in letting us sample all the reds offered by the glass, as they were out of the wine we desired. and then you'll be sure to glow. read more

I had been to Bacchus about 7 times over the last 3 years. They used to have very good pizzas, in which the crust was probably the best part. Not tonight. We had Ambustus and Mozzabella pizzas. And they were just dry, overbaked. Overall, the pizzas did not taste bad, but nothing special. The pizza crust did not taste the same as it used to, either. Did they change their kitchen staff? The waitress could have been more attentive. We ran out of beer in our glasses and were sitting with dry spicy pizza for about 10-15 minutes before we saw the waitress around. The restaurant was not busy. Last time we were there we also noticed that the customer service leaves much to be desired. We were sitting pretty much in an empty bar, just one couple next to us, and the bartender did not pay any attention to us but instead used his time exchanging stories with a waitress about how they spent last night and how much each of them drank; and the bartender was drinking beer in front of us... Pretty unprofessional. Not sure if I want to go to this place any more. read more

This place is such a bummer. Paid over 20 bucks for a 12" pizza. I'm okay with paying that much if a business produces well-crafted pizza, but man, it was awful. The vegetables were undercooked, the sauce virtually nonexistent, and they got my order wrong. I've been here a few times with the hope of finding some redeeming qualities about this place, but the quality just isn't there. Unbelievable slow service. From entry to exit: 2.5 hours. Pizza had skimpy toppings over only 1/2 the top. The one pasta dish for our party never showed up, had to be re-ordered, and our waiter (also tending bar) took it off the ticket. read more

Their food is good but they are wayyyy overpriced. If you order extra pizza toppings, like for example, mushrooms, they charge you extra but only give you half a mushroom sliced into five pieces. Service is good but your money will go farther elsewhere. read more

Hands down the best pizza you will find in the capital region. I travel to NYC a lot and this is as close to NYC (good) pizza you'll find. It is a little pricey for the size . The beer selection is wonderful. Really good stuff and yes it is a little pricey ($5+ for a pint glass). Service was very good but we were there early and it was a quiet night. Salad was very good mix of leafy greens, ie: no iceburg. Bacchus also has a great ambiance. Can't wait to go back. read more

I would argue that Bacchus has the best pizza in Troy. I go as often as possible and would recommend nearly anything on the menu. The beer selection isn't too bad either. The garlic bread is a must. The only down side is that it Is often understaffed and it takes a while to get served but its worth the wait. read more

This is a nice place in downtown Troy. The food was pretty good, not fantastic, but I have to say the best thing about this restaurant was the service. The waitress was exceedingly kind and made good recommendations on menu choices. Having wonderful staff can really make or break a restaurant. And on this particular night this waitress made the restaurant for me. There are also a few tables for outdoor seating which on a pleasant night proved to be enjoyable. There was trivia the night we came which made the inside portion of the restaurant very loud. But since we sat outdoors we enjoyed sipping on our wine and munching on our pizza in peace. read more

I have been to Bacchus twice in the past month and both trips were fantastic. The restaurant has a great ambiance, making it a great place for a happy hour with friends or a romantic dinner with your other half. I ordered wood fired pizzas each time and left nothing on my plate. The food is made on premise and extremely fresh. Bacchus also has a great bar and beer list. The prices are reasonable. I highly recommend going to Bacchus soon!!! read more

My boyfriend and I went to Bacchus for a late dinner recently and were pleasantly surprised based on the mixed reviews we read on yelp. At first glance, your attention is drawn to the super cool wood stone oven. The sculpted face with a mouth full of fire greets you as you walk in the door. Besides that there isn't much atmosphere to speak of though. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer and had mixed feelings. The artichoke and spinach favors were over powered by a strong taste of cream cheese. However, the bread that came with the dip was great. Freshly baked in the wood stone oven, the bread was light and fluffy, very tasty. For our main course, we ordered pizza. It seemed like the only reasonable choice to make considering the wonderful oven that was literally staring at us. The pizza was good and it is nice to find a decent thin crust pizza in Troy, NY. That being said, it wasn't anything spectactular. One of the better parts of the experience was the drink specials. They had a decent selection of good beers for very reasonable prices. read more
