I have been trying to get in here for months. It was so difficult to get a reservation and I knew why, it must be great! I love Defazios pizza and I have been to their original location countless times. Unfortunately I must have come on an off night, or is it always like this? The dining areas were gorgeous, I loved all the details and decor, the fun wallpaper, and the open kitchen. It was very loud in there, hard to chat, but it was a busy Friday night. We started with drinks, all the cocktails were good, I loved the manhattan. To start we ordered the buratta with eggplant. It was served with pizza crust which I loved. Unfortunately the dish tasted like nothing. I was expecting delicious caramelized roasted veggies, and instead it was barely cooked eggplant and tomatoes with olive oil. I think the kitchen lost the salt and seasonings for all the dishes this night. This dish was not good. I found salt on an empty table and that helped us get through most of the dish. The pistachio pesto pizza was probably the best thing we ordered, but still, it was not what I expected, and the presentation was off putting with the pickled red onions. The flavors were good though and the crust was excellent per usual. The pasta dishes I was excited for also completely underwhelmed me. The pasta for both dishes was very al dente to a fault, it was too chewy and an effort to eat. The Cajun chicken Alfredo had good flavor, but the chicken was woefully over cooked and stringy. The carbonara was almost insulting. It tasted like nothing, at all. You couldn't taste the pancetta, there was no color to the dish which should be deep in color due to the egg yolks, we barely touched this dish. I took it home and doctored it up for dinner the next night. After a marathon of disappointment, we ended on a good note with the Hangover cake, it is delicious and moist, no notes. Maybe my expectations were too high, but this was not what I expected. I have no desire to return and my friends were really unimpressed as well.

Some of the best food we've had hands down! Drinks too! Absolutely worth your next dinner date for sure! We had salad, pizza, apps, everything was fantastic. Service was fast and amazing, from the hostess to the servers and bartenders. We had a great night!

My partner and I had a really pleasant date here on a Friday night. We walked into a beautiful and boisterous dining room -- definitely don't except to be able to have quiet conversation here, it is LOUD and you will be raising your voice to talk to your dining companions. Their drink menu, especially the wine list, is extensive. I opted for a strawberry gin cocktail which was well-balanced and delicious. We took a chance on the arugula salad, both thinking it might be too simple, but were so pleasantly surprised by how good it was. A big bunch of arugula dressed in a lemon vinaigrette with Romano and crispy garlic and shallots, we could not stop eating it, and we're still talking about how much we liked it days later. We've been fans of DeFazio's pizza for a long time so we knew the pizza would be good, the roasted garlic and eggplant one we got had some really nice char and was the deliciousness we expect from a DeFazio's pizza. The one entree that was bit disappointing was the Cacio e pepe. I prefer this dish with the traditional bucatini, but this one is served with linguini and it fell into the pitfall many Cacio e pepe's can fall into -- it was clumpy. When done right Cacio e pepe is smooth, but the cheese broke on this one so while it had a really nice strong peppery flavor, the texture was off. Granted our waitress did forget to put this order in initially so I feel like they might've rushed it, which might be why it was not prepared correctly. We finished our meal with a very generous serving of a silky smooth tiramisu; I did find myself looking for a bit more of a coffee flavor but it was a tasty dessert nonetheless. Overall, I really like what they're doing here even though there are some things I wish were done a bit better and I'm definitely going back for that arugula salad!

I like a lot of things here. The meatball appetizer is 5 stars. The pistachio pizza is yummy. The hangover cake is moist and delicious. I like it here a lot. But. And I hate to say this. The homemade linguine that comes with many entrees - is awful. The texture is off. It doesn't seem to have the flavor of the sauce. Honestly, I'd rather have ronzoni. I feel terrible even thinking this because it reminds me of the opening scene in Big Night. But I'll bet a survey of everyone would show a strong preference for Ronzoni. Waitress was great. I even felt like the cost was not outrageous. It's just that homemade pasta that I really, really would not order again.

I actually got up and grabbed the remote to put closed captioning on myself. Now the bar... When we walked in at 8:30p we waited till 8:45 to finally be greeted by the bartender as a training barback stared at us doing nothing for the entire time. The bartender had an undeserved, terrible attitude and spent over 10 minutes making a single specialty cocktail. Our second drink was treated similarly, though this time she demanded we leave the bar area we were standing at to move to the other side where her male coworker was making our last drink. It was so obviously direct disrespect and distaste for us as customers, I will not be returning. Oh, then last drink where my non-confrontational quiet friend got our third round - they served her vodka beverage from the same shaker as my mezcal drink and it tasted just like that, a mix of vodka and smoky tequila... no thanks. Bathrooms? No toilet paper. Drinks were actually delicious though, except for Kristen's third! Not busy enough to excuse this hospitality.

The Roosevelt Room in Troy was a great experience from start to finish. I was honestly expecting a standalone building, but it is tucked into a strip mall near HVCC. That said, parking was easy and stress free, which is always a plus. This was our first visit as a party of four, and the service was superb. The attention to detail really stood out and was noticed immediately. Our waitress checked in at the right times, kept drinks filled, and made sure everything came out exactly as expected. Meals are made to order, so substitutions were no issue at all, and it was nice to see gluten free options available. When you walk in, you pass through a curtain and are immediately greeted by a coat attendant who takes your coats, which instantly gives the place an upscale feel. The ambiance is well done, with soft lighting and nice background music. It is on the smaller side and dimly lit, but that is clearly intentional. The menus actually light up, which was a unique and thoughtful touch that fits the atmosphere perfectly. We had reservations and were seated right away. It did not seem necessary on this particular evening, but I would definitely recommend them on a weekend given the size of the space. The food itself was excellent. Everything we ordered was very tasty, and the presentation across the board was impressive. Desserts are prepared by a pastry chef and were just as good as the rest of the meal. It is definitely on the pricey side, but that is to be expected for the level of service and atmosphere. This feels like a special occasion type of place, and in that context, it is worth every penny. We really enjoyed our night and would absolutely come back. There was also a sign mentioning live jazz on Fridays, which sounds like a great added touch. Overall, a very strong 5 stars.

It was darkly lit inside (with pinkish/red lights no less); it was extremely loud to the point that I had trouble understanding what my wife was saying (which might not be the background music!); and the prices were expensive. The entire night they played 1980s New-wave British music which I don't mind, but had it been something I detest I would have lost my mind. We were seated at a tiny table with a small candle which provided some actual heat on the cold winter night. Our server was extremely helpful and though he didn't have all the answers he did offer to go and find out. They have a long menu but it doesn't have a lot of food options on it, with most of the pages devoted to alcohol. They had only one dessert option when we were there. My wife and I both ordered the Hanger Steak with fries, mushroom sauce, and green salad (about $40 each). Hanger steak is my favorite cut and hard to find so I jumped on it. Food came out in about 25 minutes, which is amazing considering how small their kitchen is. The steak was cooked perfectly (they didn't ask how we wanted it), smothered in a lovely mushroom sauce, and covered an ample portion of crispy homemade fries which were so good I would have thought them bagged frozen items. Even the basic salad which was just various types of lettuce was great. They aren't cheap, but they are focusing on "farm to table" and that means quality food at commensurate (fair?) prices. Burgers and chicken sandwiches are $15, so if you want something lighter but still tasty you can go that route. Speaking of light, if you go into the bathroom on the right you will find a cold, dark, tiny room lit solely by a PINK bulb. It feels like being on a spaceship (as if I know what that is like), and after when you leave seeing the main light in the restaurant is very jarring. It was a fun experience but not inexpensive and not one that checks the boxes that I look for in a restaurant. Dark, loud, and cramped might be hip for the young or "save the earth" crowd, but I am too old to give up creature comforts for such things. The food, though expensive, was absolutely outstanding in every way though and I won't forget that steak for a long time.
