This was a hidden gem of my trip! I spent a long weekend in Hiawassee and stopped here on the way home from visiting another town. Who knew all the fun that would be inside. We heard live music and knew we had to check it out. The porch is gorgeous and has a view of the lake and you can dock your boat there to get a drink. The woman working was so friendly and made us feel like locals! She would top off my drink while I was sitting outside so stealthily. They had a large selection and it was all very reasonably priced. If I'm in the area again - I will find my way back to Bacchus. read more

Nice wine selection with great live music several times a week. We've been in there quite a bit with a group of friends for a glass of wine and to listen to the music. Fun atmosphere! And when the weather's nice, it's great to sit outside on the patio to hear the music while enjoying great views of Lake Chatuge. Owner is a sweetheart! read more

Where do I begin... The BEST customer service and selection of wines in range of price. I can go in, tell them a flavor I like and price range, they give me a bottle and I ALWAYS love it. They have inventory that fluctuates, so you don't get bored. Next door they have their craft beer draft and bottle shop. Wow. This is Hiawassee's best kept secret. First of all, I highly recommend getting a cabin in the North Georgia mountains and enjoying the fall weather and foliage. Make sure to include wine tasting in your trip; not only because Yay! Wine! but because Georgia is surprisingly impressive with the varietals that it is making these days. Gone are the slugs from the lowly muscadine "wine" (which tastes like a mix of cough medicine and alcoholic Hi-C) and in are the nuances (crap, I sound like a wine snob) of Viognier, Cabernet, and Chardonnay! After a long day of driving all over kingdom come, we stopped in to Bacchus Wine Shop. It is in a tiny strip of shops beside a quirky gift shop (whose name I forgot but I believe the word "frog" is in the name). The new owners of Bacchus have a compact but knowledgeable beer area with some excellent high gravity brews, a beautiful oak tasting bar, and a back patio with a gorgeous lake view. We chatted for almost an hour about wines and he knew every bottle in his shop. I highly recommend that you stop in and say hello, but keep in mind that their resident pooch is a bit shy. read more

Amazing find some place you'd never expect! This little beer and wine store nestled on the banks of Lake Chatuge has one of the best selections of highly rated yet obscure beers I have ever stumbled across and a couple of the nicest owners you'd could ask for. Over the years I spend approximately 2 weeks a year in Hiawassee for business and stop in every time. The owners and staff are top notch. In my experiences the owners and staff tend to recall the previous visit and my name upon entry, which is impressive in that I am not a local customer. The Growler Shop next door, under the same name, is a must with over 15 beers on tap and speciality craft beers available for purchase. If you are a cigar smoker the establishment also offers a wide selection for pairing with your favorite cocktail. Wines can range in price from your general occasion bottle to the specialty several hundred dollar bottles. Flats, 4 taste glasses approximately 2 ounces each, for beer tasting are $6.00 and after you've found your favorite craft beer you can purchase a growler of draft beer for the road. If you stop in for a visit you will not be disappointed and I will warn you that it is easy to become a repeat customer for life. read more

What a pleasant surprise nestled in a small strip mall in Hiawassee! We just purchased property in the area, and were ecstatic to stumble upon this small but wonderful beer tasting room. There were at least a dozen or more beers on tap to try - a flight of 4 tastes for only one dollar. How can you beat that? They also sell growlers so you can take home some of the nummy stuff they serve. We had a wonderful conversation with Russ who was super friendly and helpful. We are glad we stopped in!
