The final (and perhaps the most awesome) stop on our wine tour was here at Sylvan. We stuck to the drinking areas and skipped the tour of the lodge. A bunch of folks did that because they were planning to host an event or some such. I did hear great things about the lodge. As for the drinking, we did get a special pour of the Twisted, which may or may not have been in their usual tasting menu. Sitting outside by the gas fire pits and watching the changed leaves fall to the ground is fabulous. Doing so with a tasty glass of poetry and wearing toasty clothing made it even better. Luke is doing GREAT business here. His vision for the future is so exciting. There is so much to see here. The back garden area is SO amazingly beautiful. The view is stunning and simultaneously relaxing. If you want a place to contemplate life's deep and beautiful mysteries. We did the (tasting of course) and the sweet Rose was absolutely perfect. Sherm had a flight and everything Luke picked for hom was amazing. Is it too soon to think about another vow renewal? What of it is destination themed? In the future Sylvan Valley lodge will feature a tapas menu, live music and group event Specialty catering. This is all according the their savant General Manager who will take you under his wing and make you feel like you are the only people who matter. I am really not sure what else to say. Glad to find this off-the-beaten-path lodge and tasting room. They are tied into Kaya Vineyards with some reserve wines not available at Kaya. Overall, the wines were OK; the Reserve Munua was my favorite. However; the General Manager, Luke, is a gem and treated us wonderfully. The kitchen was closed - didn't know the reason. No people were around. She gave me the wine tastes all together without crackers, or any offering. I found I was the only guest and nobody to share anything with though I had counted on something a little festive. I'd dressed for it. Seemed for mid- summer a little odd the place was so empty. I had counted on some happiness with strangers. In town people were swarming - tubing, dining, store-hopping, Traffic was bumper to bumper. In the hotel I turned on a Mystery program and somewhere in the middle, the TV went - like that. I wanted to phone downstairs but there was no phone in the room; my cell didn't work either and then I found there was nobody downstairs! All the doors to cashier/gift room and tasting room were locked. There was nobody to ask for help. I felt panicked for a while. Television service never did return. The coffee was good and cream in the common room - lucky I found it in the morning, as I hadn't been told. Bedroom comfortable and clean. Place has pretty environs. I had come with a TravelZoo voucher for which I'd paid $150. Additional fees I found on my return home were $50! Hadn't counted on that! If they want people to enjoy - when they close their kitchen - need to consider a shuttle to a proper vineyard, or into town. When I drove in myself, there was no place to park that was not illegal. read more

A sophisticated tapas bar in Georgia wine country. We had a wonderful Sunday lunch on the patio under the big trees. There are only eight choices on the menu. We shared two of them, the smoked salmon with dill cream cheese on flatbread and the cheese and charcuterie platter. Either would have been sufficient, but we were curious. Plenty of delicious food, expertly presented. Our server said they have a new chef. Let's hope they keep her/him. This more than made up for all the "touristy" food we had in Helen. We'll have to return to try the other tapas! read more

The Sylvan Valley Lodge is nestled right off of Duncan Bridge Road in Sautee Nacoochee, GA (White County)(North Georgia). As soon as you drive up the drive you are transported to your Happy Place. The lodge looks like something from the Germany countryside. It is perfectly located so everywhere you look there are gorgeous nature and mountain views. The front door is grand and welcomes you into the entry located right next to the tasting room and dining room for Breakfast. This is were you get to meet the innkeepers Ginevra and John. They greet you with a warm welcome and give you your keys to your large and comfortable room. All of the rooms are located on the second floor. Each room has its own bathroom, some with large jacuzzi tubs. I loved our shower- the water pressure was excellent. The room we stayed in had a large shared balcony which was nice for morning coffee (all rooms have a keurig coffee maker). On the second floor also has a large, but cozy living room. There were books and games to enjoy. Plus, there was a large balcony you can sit out on and enjoy the mountain views. I loved the large king bed in our room- it was really comfortable. We also had a nice couch that I enjoyed cozying up on to watch tv. I really appreciated that there was a small refrigerator with soft drinks in our room. Breakfast at Sylvan Valley is really good. They provide you with a few choices to choose from. We were there multiple mornings so we enjoyed a few of them. Ginevra and John are eager to make your breakfast the perfect start to your day. Sylvan Valley have their own wine, so make sure to schedule a wine tasting. We are newbies to wine, so John and Ginevra really took time to describe the different wines we tasted, plus instruction us on how to get the best experience out of each wine. I also need to tell you that the food they provide with the wine tasting is excellent. On the property there is a lovely spot for an enchanting outdoor wedding. They also have a very nice bridal suite and a large covered spot for events. It really was a very beautiful place for a wedding or special event. There are also great photo spots all around the property. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway or a romantic getaway- Sylvan Valley Lodge is a great spot. It would be a perfect place for a small wedding or family reunion. It is a great location- close to Helen and Cleveland, GA, plus close to over 12 wineries. After our visit, I was excited to plan our next stay. You will love it!! read more

We stayed in the Forest Glen cabin, we were told on the phone both the serenity and Forest Glen were identical, sadly that is not the case. Firstly they have a very strict non smoking policy (see photo), and the first thing I see upon the porch of the cabin was a cigarette that someone left (see photo). The cabin it's self had a weird smell even though they had 2 room air fresheners one behind the TV and one on top of microwave. The bedroom was the worse part, in order to get in and out of one side of the bed you must climb over the foot board or across your sleeping partner (see photo). The bed is a 4 poster bed and between the queen bed and a giant jacuzzi tub in the bedroom (see photo) the door clearance is really tight it was better to walk through the bathroom to go to the bedroom. On our first night I dropped an earring, I'm trying to find it and my husband grabbed a flash light and started to help me and when we shined the flash light under the toe kick of the kitchen area we found a live scorpion. My husband (bless him) killed it and removed it. I was at this point a bit freaked out I've never really delt with scorpions before, and I lived in Show Low Arizona for a few years. My husband started to look around and found another in the bathroom that one was dead (see picture) but still freaked me out. Didn't someone just clean our cabin? We are avid outdoor people I don't expect to be terrified to sleep in a cabin. I ended staying up all night due to fear, I have no idea if I have a reaction to scorpion sting we are in the middle of woods I have no idea if we needed medical attention if we could have received it no cell signal or gps. We left at first light and located another place to stay we have a 9 hour drive and needed a decent night's sleep. I received a text from the lodge later in the day asking about our experience my husband told them what had happened, they called us they did not put their response in writing, but basically we were told oh scorpions are common the caller stated she has them in her own home. Are you freaking serious shouldn't this be some type of disclaimer, seriously I live in Florida and to have palmetto bugs in your home IS NOT NORMAL even though they are abundant here. We never had scorpions in Arizona either. We were not issued a refund, I expected that buyer beware. read more

We had never been to a Bed and Breakfast and were looking to stay in the area for our winter vacation. I found a deal on Living Social and was looking forward to our weekend. I read a lot of reviews on here before coming and was quite surprised at the reaction most had. The Hotel itself was very homey and in a great location. Once we walked upstairs and I saw the way it was decorated I was concerned about actually walking into our assigned room. It seemed very outdated. We entered the room and was very pleased that it was just as lovely as the photo showed. The bed was comfortable and the room was very spacious. I found some of the outlets didn't work in the room, the toilet ran and the bathroom door didn't latch. The day we woke up for breakfast that I was looking forward to after all the rave reviews on it. They had a paper menu with 3 items to choose from. A farm breakfast with eggs, bacon or sausage, toast or english muffin. A pancake breakfast with 2 thin pancakes, bacon or sausage. And a breakfast sandwich. The breakfast was mediocre. There was nothing special about bacon and eggs. Anyway you cook it, it's just bacon and eggs. When my husband and I wanted to go downstairs to sit in front of the fire and talk the staff was sitting on the 2 couches they have in front of it and were watching a movie on a small TV they placed on the table. When we walked in, they paused their movie and seemed annoyed that we were interrupting. We felt awkward and just went back upstairs. The next night they were back in front of the fire and didn't even bother to try again. We were the only ones at the lodge at the time so maybe it's not something they do normally. It was a pleasant trip and has made me excited to find other bed and breakfasts to look into. read more

We kind of got 'stuck' at this place because it was the only place with vacancy as we were late in booking. However, for $250 a night, we were not impressed. The inside of the cabin was very cheap feeling: linoleum floor, plastic/fiberglass shower, toilet wouldn't flush u less you held the handle down, loud noises from the highway, but the worst was probably the hard mattress. Also it poured rain 1 night and it sounded like a tin shed. The hostess/waitress was less than friendly. The 2 nice things were the jacuzzi tub in the bedroom and the breakfast, although it was less than accommodating as it's only available for 1 hour. I wouldn't recommend unless you can get it for way less than the $575 total we paid for 2 nights. read more

This little bed and breakfast is amazing. The couple that owns it makes it feel like home. We have been coming now for several years. The included breakfast is to die for and is farm to table fresh. They have a winery, the knot, downstairs and have a delicious selection of "Fairy" wines. The lodge has a Celtic theme which they have incorporated into their wines. It is close to at least 6-8 wineries and of course to the Helen Village. I can't imagine staying anywhere else fir our yearly visit to Helen, GA. read more

My husband and I just returned from a very pleasant stay at the Sylvan Valley lodge. We were visiting on a LivingSocial deal. We had to pay a slightly unexpected $28 or so for taxes upon arrival, but I guess that was in the fine print I neglected to read. :) No big deal. We arrived Friday evening after an easy drive in North Georgia. The room was clean and charismatic. We loved the unique antique furniture, the large king size bed, and the overall feel of the room. Our only complaints about the room were the small TV (but hey, we were not there to really watch TV), the lack of a thicker drape (light shined in through the thin curtain), and the peeling paint on the toilet was a bit unsightly, but no big deal. The Keurig machine and complimentary bottled water and sodas were a nice touch. We also enjoyed sitting out in the common room playing games and sitting out on the balcony. The wine tasting was enjoyable also. We got to meet and mingle with the other couples staying, and we went home with a nice bottle of white wine. Oh and before I forget, no kids under 14 allowed! We do not have kids, but we liked this very much for a romantic weekend away. Noise level was no issue at this establishment. For breakfast, there were 3 choices daily: pancakes, eggs/sausage or bacon/and english muffin/sourdough bread, or sausage/egg sandwich. It was a sit down style. We liked that it was not your typical buffet, however we did not have much cash the first day to appropriately tip, so bring some singles. Also, I could see how some people who are early risers could be disappointed with the breakfast times (9-10am). Seems like maybe they could offer an earlier time, like 7-8, as well? We did not mind though. I guess they assume most people will sleep in? The late check out (noon) was also very nice! Overall we had a great time. It was a lovely weekend get away for us. Once a year I do an offsite strategy planning retreat for the executives on my team. I was looking for a place to do this near the North Georgia wineries and the town of Helen. My goal was to have a place we could essentially "rent out," where my people would be close together and not spread out, with break-out places that lent to some privacy, and above all...it needs to be nice and self-contained. Found it all at the Sylvan. They worked with me to provide a nice wine and hors d'oeuvres greeting as my people arrived. Had arranged all rooms so my people could get immediately settled, had a fire going and arranged the Lodge for our first round of meetings with incredible views of the mountainside. The second night the Sylvan folks did a private wine tasting before we headed out to dinner and because I wanted to get started a bit earlier each day, were flexible on the breakfast and lunch times. By far one of the most productive team meetings I've had in a long time because there weren't too many distractions, but just enough nice nearby restaurants and places to visit to make it fun. Will definitely consider doing future events at the Sylvan. read more

To be honest, the staff made us feel awkward. After looking at the website and Facebook, I was somewhat expecting music or possibly wine tasting, as this was the main reason for booking our stay, but it was completely empty. When we asked what time they close to wine tasting, the woman at the desk told us seven or whenever they felt like closing. We just felt like a nuisance as she was not particularly friendly. We decided to go ahead and grab a bottle of wine for the room. She gave us no info on the wine or "winery." I realize the price was higher this past weekend because of Oktoberfest going on, but I'm very disappointed at the hospitality provided on check-in and check-out. It was overpriced for what we received. The bed was very comfortable and the decor was homey and charming. Nice touch having a porch open all day and night to see the sun come up. read more

Just returned from a weekend retreat and wine tasting tour at Sylvan Valley Lodge near Helen, Georgia. We chose this spot because of it's central location to many of the North Georgia wineries we planned to visit. We were enchanted with the accommodations, the yummy made-to-order breakfasts and the warm hospitality of the owners. We stayed in Cabin 21 which had been freshly renovated - comfy furniture, room to spread out and a balcony all our own. We arrived in time for a tasting of the Lodge's own wine label, Frolicking Faerie. The owners are just completing a wedding special event spot which is picture perfect. read more

I did a girls weekend and it's was sooo relaxing and the food was amazing. I would recommend getting the eggs and bacon for breakfast the pancakes were not that good! My husband and I stayed here on a Sunday night, as my birthday was on Monday. We found this establishment via a deal on Living Social. First, I'm not sure if there was a hotel or a bed and breakfast because it was definitely larger than your average B&B, but breakfast was included with the price of the stay. Personal attention to detail, as one would find in a B&B, was not present. Stepping into the Sylvan Valley Lodge was like stepping back in time to my grandmother's house in the 1980's. Everything was extremely old and out dated. There is no "office" or check-in desk. We had to check-in at the "tasting room" which was basically just a bar top; this is where they also served breakfast in the morning. In addition, this area could have used a thorough vacuum, or a carpet shampoo. As a matter of fact, all the carpets were so badly stained and disgusting looking that they should just be replaced. Our room, unlike the rest of the hotel, was very clean. The bathroom seemed to be freshly painted, but it was a hideous orange/salmon color (honestly, I can't come up with a name for its ugliness). The room had a fan, thank goodness, because when we initially entered the room it was around 80 degrees because the air conditioner had not been turned on yet. My husband ordered chocolate covered strawberries for me and they were waiting in the room, but alas, they were basically melted from the heat and we threw them out. The bed was a FULL size (it says queen on their website, but that is an outright lie).. The last time I was in a hotel with anything less than a queen was some time around...never. Maybe they were trying to make it more romantic by squishing us together. Luckily, we are small people to begin with. The room also included a writing desk from the 1960's, and a 17 inch TV with a VCR. The refrigerator had complimentary cold beverages in it and there was a Keurig machine for coffee and tea. That was the best part about the room. The hours for breakfast (9am-10am) are extremely inconvenient for early risers. breakfast consisted of two choices: either two eggs, any way you wanted with bacon or sausage, and toast or an English muffin; or you could choose pancakes, with bacon or sausage. It was convenient to go down the stairs and have breakfast, but it was have been nicer just to head to down town Helen and have more breakfast options, like an omelet, cereal or fruit. My husband and I enjoy staying at small, family-run hotel/B&B establishments and we try to stay at them whenever we travel, but in this situation we would have been about 100 times happier staying at the Best Western in downtown Helen for $90 (instead of the Sylvan Valley for $165), which includes breakfast and a pool, and is a 30 second walking distance from everything that the adorable town of Helen has to offer. read more

So, so so good. What a hidden treasure - no negatives to be found. It's off the beaten path, it's adults only, it has a wine bar (and the wine is great), the staff is fun, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the breakfast served is bar-none the best you'll find in town. Get the pancakes...trust me. Thin, crisp and just sweet enough. Props to my wife for finding such an awesome little place just outside German-esque Helen, GA. I can't attest to the bed and breakfast but I can to the wine tasting they offer. This was between Serenity and Cottage we saw the sign on our way to Cottage and figured let's try it it's on the way. They only have a few of their own wines which I wasn't really impressed with at all then they offered a few from other vineyards/winery's in the area which was a huge turn off especially since I had already been to those several weeks back. My wife and I came here for our honeymoon this past weekend, what a pleasant experience! It was my first time in Georgia and I fell in love with the scenery! We got this special on groupon to explore the North GA wine country and this was our lodge. The cabins were clean, it included a breakfast and for the price you couldn't beat it! Visited the local wine tasting restaurant on a night they were advertising "Tapas & Live Jazz". The location and views are beautiful, but unfortunately the service and food was to match. We ordered 3 simple dishes; a cheese plate, burgers, & scampi. We had to wait 45 minutes for our first plate (cheese plate) and another 30 minutes after for our final two dishes. Neither of our final entrees came with cutlery despite asking for it on numerous occasions. During the wait for our food, we weren't offered anymore drinks, despite sitting with empty glasses. The service and food really let down what could of been a fantastic night. The singer, and guitarist were excellent and saved our night from being a total disaster. read more

We went here for our 3rd wedding anniversary. This place has character! After a day out exploring Helen and local wineries we came back to a relaxing soak in the heart-shaped tub in our room! Sylvan Valley Lodge is not your typical hotel, it's kinda more like a bed and breakfast. The proprietors are quite nice. We had a very nice wine tasting on Saturday afternoon of 4 different local wines and a nice little cheese plate that was tasty. Two suggestions I would like to make: 1) Coasters in the room would be nice, I hated to put my wineglass on the wooden furniture and I brought back napkins from town to use as coasters. 2) Drapery that can be drawn to black out the glass doors and windows. Our room had a shared balcony and we had to rig the curtains in such a way so that our neighbors wouldn't accidentally get a show and so the curtains wouldn't smother the AC unit. All in all it was a very pleasant stay, relaxing, and we enjoyed our time there! read more

First experience at a B&B. Took advantage of a living social deal. Was a little nervous upon our arrival but once we entered our room we were surprised. The bed was a king and the bathroom was clean. There are three options for breakfast...pancakes, breakfast sandwich, and eggs with toast and bacon or sausage. The Chamborcin jelly is very tasty. We took advantage of sitting around the fireplace and talking with other guests. Very homey feeling. read more

As a wine lover, I purchased a deal through Living Social to visit the North Georgia wine country and see what it was all about. I'd heard that the wines coming out of this area were surprisingly good. They were...and that wasn't the only thing that was surprisingly good! Our stay at Sylvan Valley Lodge was wonderful. If you go, you're certain to be pleased as well. Your hosts are friendly, very knowledgeable about the area, and can provide excellent recommendations for things to do, places to visit and restaurants to cure your cravings. Their breakfast each morning is lovely - the pancakes are delightful and reminded me of crepes. It is large enough to satisfy, but not so much to make you too full and too lazy to get out and enjoy the region. Great location to five or six excellent wineries - you can be there in minutes and enjoy a wide variety of tasty beverages. Or you can just settle in to their comfy "living room" on the ground floor and sample goodies from their wine bar. I had a glass of their own Fairie wine the first night we were there, and it was delicious. It is made from honey and is a nice change from a grape wine. They are also close to the tourist trap town of Helen, GA...which is more than a little kitchy and contrived, but had some interesting shops and several places to get a nice German meal or some Bavarian pastries. A fun place to walk around for an afternoon. Our room was very clean and our double beds were very comfortable. The decor was set to period - it was definitely sporting a Victorian look and it worked with the room. The TV gave us some trouble the night we checked in, but the owner fixed it quickly and efficiently. Every time we stopped back in to the lodge, our hosts were busily doing something...hosting a wine tasting, mowing lawns, checking guests in and out...they are tireless and exceptionally accommodating. You can tell they care a great deal about their lodge and want to make their guests happy. We're planning a return trip to visit again and sample some different wines later this year! read more
