I've been to Back 9 twice, and both times had a positive experience. Granted, the first one was for an NFL Draft party, and I had free tickets. However, the 2nd visit was equally good. I came for a social event sponsored by my company. Anna and Aryell at the registration desk were super helpful and friendly. Since I had a large party and some people arrived late, I was thankful they were flexible with start times. I grabbed a drink from the bar during happy hour, while waiting for the rest of my party. The bartenders, Sierra and Chris, were chill and did a solid job tending to the crowd. I suck at golf, but fortunately ... pretty much everyone else in the crew does too! Fun times had by all. Appetizers were nothing particularly special, but they did the job and were reasonably priced. Lastly, I was pleasantly surprised to find live music (Jambox) playing 70s covers late into the evening. Stayed for cornhole, ping pong, and and rock 'n role out in the front patio. Overall, solid pick for a place to hang with coworkers on a Friday night after work. 10/10 would recommend. read more

The only differences I really noticed were some of the food options and that instead of hitting the balls into holes, it was just a huge green with flags instead. That being said, the food was good. I reserved a lane for my son and some buddies for his birthday. After he got home we realized they had charged him for 2 hours. I only booked one hour and he only stayed one hour. He called right away and was told a message would be left with the manager. After not hearing back, he called 2 more times over the next several days and got the same answer. He finally gets an email response saying they can't refund his money but can give him credit, a gift card or money back on the booking account to use another time. This is ridiculous. It was their error and they should have no issue refunding the overcharge. read more

It's like Top Golf but cheaper. Good food, service was good until the bar area got crowded. Despite going on a Friday night it wasn't that crowded, plenty of parking too. We went early to eat and hang out before playing. We finished eating pretty quickly so we asked if we could play about 30-40 minutes before our reserved time and it wasn't an issue. The heating is good and you've got a view of Lucas Oil Stadium and downtown. If it wasn't so far from where I live I'd consider going again. read more

I made a reservation for a bay for 2 hours and that was plenty of time for 6 people. They do have a parking lot but it was super crowded when we arrived at 400pm on Saturday and I wonder if it gets full what do you do? There aren't side streets or anything around to really park anywhere else. There are 3 levels, with a bar on each level. You can order at the bar or get service through your bay. You can order food and drinks from a server that comes to your table. I didn't eat anything on this visit but others in my party were happy with what they got. Only complaint is that the games are a little glitchy--sometimes not registering balls at all, other times just randomly skipping players or counting balls against them before they hit them at all. We called an attendant at one point, who had no idea how to fix it. Not great for the more competitive members of our team who had a 0 on their score for absolutely no reason or lost their turn altogether. Still a fun night, especially for the non-competitive folks. the food is not good. i personally am not impressed with the selections and the mass amount of alcohol available vs the limited food choice is crazy. the food did not taste good. a smash burger and fries was twenty dollars and ten cents and when i say the flavor was absolutely mid, i do mean that. the nachos were dryy. the pizza was spicy for no reason. being hungry is upsetting. the system they have setup to golf is excellent. the scoreboard, the sensor for balls to come out. getting to watch your play on the screen. it was easy to understand and fun for all age levels. our server was excellent, i wish i remembered her name. she checked on us often, kept us updated on timing while keeping drinks filled, and was pleasant. my family had a lot of fun and we'd go again without hesitation! read more

A fun Saturday night activity just outside downtown Indianapolis. We went on a Saturday night around 4 p.m. and had to wait about 2 hours for a bay. However, the wait went quick with a bar on each level. For nicer days they have outdoor patios too! The Loaded Tater Tots were fantastic. We also ordered the Back 9 Pizza (yum! Thin, crispy crust) and the pork tenderloin (basic Hoosier staple). The game play itself is more geared towards golfers rather than the "putt putt" class. We were there on a Thursday night had two bays, Gabi was our server. she was a god waitress fun time till the end of the night. Place closes at 10 pm which I thought was a bit early especially when your trying to complete with top golf. But the fact that I tried to order a drink at 9:40 and she said that bartender was closed was a little off. She never said anything about last call. But we were ok with the fact until we left and passed the male bartender who was still serving the female at the bar drinks we thought was pretty shady. We were told he was closed and made last call but he was still serving the woman at the bar drinks was extremely rude, especially when we spent over 800 dollars in a night for a birthday. We went here for a family members birthday and I was impressed. Normally drive up north for Top Gold but this place is perfect for those on the south side of Indianapolis. The food is great, I had some pretzels from the outdoor grill while there was a local band performing. When you are not golfing you enjoy live music on the other side. Even while working through the issues of being newly open to the public, this was a pleasant evening. It was a beautiful day, so we decided we wanted to spend our time outside. We looked online and their social media pages said they had live music starting at 7pm. Their webpage said to call for reservations, so we did. At least we tried. When I called, they said they were "first come first served". That was unfortunate, but that didn't stop us. We got there about 6pm. When we walked in, they were on a two hour wait. We didn't put our name in, but we decided to give ourselves a tour. It is a really nice place, and the aesthetics take away from the actual location. They have bars on every level and servers out and about. We enjoyed some good drinks and the live music. Plenty of seating around the stage and on different levels overlooking the stage. All types is different games too. Cornhole, jenga, and more The only issue was understanding of our tab was open all different bars. The tab was not. They would have had to transfer it to whatever bar we were going to. We just closed our tab and went to different places throughout. It took some asking to find a server when we were ready to eat, but it wasn't a problem. We got their pepperoni pizza, and it was great. Cracker thin crust and big pepperoni slices!! I haven't been to the other place on the north side, but truly enjoyed my experience at back 9. We all had a great time. Unfortunately, it was pretty cold(for me-31 degrees), and I did not come prepared. I guess I thought it would be warmer. Anyhoo, heed my warning and bring yourself some gloves and a warmer jacket than just a fleece, and you'll be all tiptop. They do have overhead heaters. I just don't like cold weather in general. It was a chilly night so we appreciated that we could turn up the heaters in our bay to our personal temp preference. Comfortable seating and plenty of space are available in each bay. Bars and plenty of TV's are available on all three levels, The music selection made for a fun atmosphere. Our server was extremely helpful (Jason, I think). Since we had never been here previously, he explained how everything worked and checked on us regularly. Overall, we enjoyed Back 9 better than its competitor. Back 9 is located closer to our home, parking was easy and we didn't half to walk a mile to get to the venue, and it's not as crowded and crazy as the other place. If you're like me, only go to put-put, then don't get discouraged coming here. I felt safe entering this establishment and have not a lick of experience with actual golf. I still had a grand time! I went with my family, they've been to both here and Top Golf before, and we got a bay for 2 hours. We didn't reserve a bay since it's a Thursday, but I would imagine they're pretty busy over the weekend. Just a good idea to reserve if you want with an absolute certainty to be a bay available. The cost is reasonable especially if you're going with a party. I'm unaware of Top Golf's set-up, but here they have everything labeled as far as mens and women's style/sized clubs. My family stated they enjoy the clubs better here vs Top; apparently they're worn? Back 9 also doesn't require you to just hit a ball as deep as you can... they have themed games that are played with a golf twist! We mainly played Blackjack/21 during our stay and enjoyed that the most. Each hole is a certain distance and the screen display has a card hovering over each hole that you can hit to get. If you're like me and not as accurate yet you still get a random card for hitting. So, there's still a chance to win! Overall, this was the best first experience I could've had with golfing. Thanks Back 9 for the superb service and thank you to the bartender we had today; she always checked in on us and made sure we were doing good with food and drinks. First time at any type of golf experience and had alot of fun! Would recommend for anyone that wants to try it out and not have to make the long drive up north to Top Golf. My friends had been to the top Golf before and enjoyed the seating here better than there. The only drawback they said was that the "tee" experience at top golf is a bit more high tech than this one (ours was missing a tee so maybe that was the issue). Be prepared to spend some money and know that walking in and you'll have a good time! we went in February and I was worried about the cold but the heaters were great! Drinks - the shacked up caddy was YUUUMMY but it was mostly ice - won't get again, not good value. But the Kentucky Mule was worth it - same price and easily more drink in there compared to ice. I'll go back again since I had a great time but there were some awkward areas to improve... 1. Our bay didn't have a tee, took a while for staff to find one and get for us even though we had reservations in advance for our area. 2. Our service was slow and we had some issues with the bill. If we had only reserved for one hour it would have felt rushed on getting orders - we ended up going to the bar to get the majority of everything we needed because of this. Not everyone in our party was able to order with our server. Even with the awkward stuff I'll go back, had a great time and this isn't usually my thing so it's a def recommend from me! read more

For starters, I highly recommend trying to quesadillas. We went on warm Monday night, which was half-price. We were able to add additional time for play, conveniently at our bay. If we needed more time to play, there's a representative from the staff will come and make sure you're doing okay, if you need any help with anything such as food or drinks. We rented out 2 bays and were in a fairly secluded spot, which was awesome for our loud group. They were also heated, perfect for our cold night! We had a great server who kept drinks flowing and food coming. The drinks and food were very good! I went to Back 9 my first time on Valentine's Day Feb 14th around 6:20ish that evening after work. I decided to go experience Back 9 Golf Entertainment when I seen on social media their Valentine's special which included for $49 plus taxes 1hr of golfing, wine/champagne, and chocolate covered strawberries. Back 9 is a little south from the Lucas Oil Stadium, still in downtown area, off of White River area, and I believe Back 9 in that location is a start for redevelopment in that area in my opinion. I went to Back 9 by myself which I'm glad I really did, it's very similar to Top Golf, the Valentine's special was only for Feb 14th & 15th, and I was at bay 303 Server name Ashley. I informed her I was there for the Valentine's special, informed her I wanted the bubbly, along with the chocolate covered strawberries, and when the Server Ashley came back out with bubbly I thought I was going to get a glass only, but instead I had the whole bottle of delicious sparkling wine. Although, I'm not a strawberry person the delicious chocolate & caramel made the strawberries taste even better. Back 9 Golf & Entertainment does have stairs, and if that's too much for you there are elevators. Back 9 does have two bars one on the 1st as well as 2nd levels, and Back 9 is family friendly, does have other specials like on Mondays half off on golf, Tuesdays they have taco Tuesdays deal, and Wednesdays are half off on select bottles of wines. Back 9 Golf & Entertainment is owned by Neal Burnett, he stated before in an article, "Indy location is just the beginning of his company's expansion to the Midwest." The amenities included at Back 9 are two to three hours of Back 9 game play, reserved bays, menu selection from their event catering options, dedicated event hosts, 85" flat-screen TVs, lifetime membership, game demonstration, bottomless pop, iced tea, and water, and private storage space. So, when I was golfing at bay 303, it's still winter time so I was under a heat lamp that's right above in the golf area. Overall, I really enjoyed myself at Back 9, glad I went during the Valentine's special, and I'll definitely be back which I'll bring my kiddos next time. read more

It is very nicely built, a great rival to Top Golf, with comfy seats at every bay and a reasonable amount of room for everyone to get around to take their turns. The ball feed system worked great and the games contained on the screen were lots of fun in addition to the more traditional golfing options. Very clean and good music. We had a really nice server as well. With that said, service is the main reason I'm knocking off a few stars. When our group went in, we requested two or three hours and they told us that we couldn't do more than one because there was a booked event. We thought the event was throughout the entire building but it was only a few bays including the one we were placed at. Could we have waited and claimed a different bay and gotten more hours? Did we need to book ahead? I don't know because they didn't really talk to us. It felt inefficient as after our first hour, we were allowed another hour at a different bay. It would have been easier on ourselves and our server to plan that ahead of time. They couldn't have been too keen to move our group out either as the people who had booked the event were trying to get in while we were still sitting around waiting to pay. It all felt very confusing and I think the confusion could have been done away with if they'd just communicated with us a bit more. The food is decent but expensive. My husband enjoys the loaded tots. The macaroni and cheese is pepper Jack based and delicious. The tenderloin has great breading but it was also terribly oily (the bun was soaked with oil) and I got a mouthful of gristle on a couple bites. I feel as if they were stingy with the mustard which was just a little spot and I don't think I'd order it again. Didn't receive napkins or silverware at first which was rough with mac & cheese when you can't always find your server quickly. Did have to ask for it but our server was very quick about getting it to us. I'm willing to give Back 9 a second chance but I'd really like to see better organization and communication in the future. Great thing about this place is that you can make reservations! I love that so much better than just going in and putting in your name. The drinks were reasonably priced and the service was really good Husband has the club with a salad and he loved it. I got the tenderloin and tots. Tenderloin was really thick. I usually prefer thin but it was pretty good. Tots were excellent :) Also had a Bloody Mary that was perfect tasting but really lacking on the garnish. So it's lots of fun to play BUT there are NOT enough heaters. Just two small heaters overhead for the entire bay. Top Golf on the north side has huge heaters so you're never uncomfortable. Probably won't go back here until it's much warmer out because we were freezing the entire time. Also it's in a really sketchy area. Parking lot needs more lighting and security. read more

Very poor service. For your information- you can reserve a booth 5 days in advance. The staff at the counter and the phone call staff will tell different information and we were unable to book when we tried. Showing up for walk ins also works, and they have food, drinks and music available nearby. You'll want to keep track of your place in line as the staff may skip your place in line. We waited over 40 mins only to ask about our place to say they were ready and didn't call us. Hoping for an improvement and better service if we visit again. This place just opened in July so we were excited to try somewhere new! First impression: super cool new hangout and golf range. They have a bar on every level so we headed to one while we waited for a bay. Bartender was amazing and had tons of food and drink recs. I grabbed a wine slushee which was perfect for the hot summer day. Food was freaking amazing! Tots are a go-to whether you like them plain or loaded. Pizza was great and I highly recommend the Back 9 pizza that comes with pepperoni, coppa, AND soppressata. Next we headed to our bay to start playing. We had tons of fun. They're are different modes you can play (practice, Black Jack, golf courses). The only issue we had was about every 5th ball or so the system didn't count and the waitress wasn't able to help us. But other than that, great space with lots of room to move around. This would be a fun spot to bring a large group to! They have a coffee bar downstairs that even serves coffee cocktails!
